Updating my review to add that today, 3 years after BHS completed our kitchen, we had to have a plumber come fix an issue with the kitchen sink. He was appalled at what he saw. A vent fitting meant for an air vent was used in our sink plumbing; it is not to code. He identified another "dangerous" (his words) issue where an exterior pipe is incorrectly placed under our kitchen sink in a very precarious (temporary, not soldered) way. I'm terrified of what this means for all of our bathrooms BHS touched last year, one of which is the source of a leak into our laundry room. Taking this opportunity to add a recent photo of our bubbling/peeling bathroom ceiling less than a year after BHS finished work on our bathrooms. I highly caution against hiring this company. read more

This is going to be a mixed review. The guys did a great job repairing drywall, painting, and some minor electrical and plumbing work, after one of my interior pipes leaked. But, when it came to change control, I felt like they completely ripped me off. One of my interior wall pipes sprung a leak in my bathroom so I hired them to repair the drywall, paint, and for mold remediation. I also mentioned I was planning on putting a new vanity in the bathroom and some plumbing work might need to be done for that, which was part of the estimate. Note, my home was built in 1952 and I had renovated the bathroom 12 years ago. After they opened up more of the wall to check for mold, I received a text from the project manager saying they did not find any mold but they find a few other things, that would cost $1500 to fix. I went downstairs to see what was wrong and I was so livid at the overly inflated estimate to: 1. put metal bands in 3 areas of my pipes; 2. put metal sheet on the 2x4 so no drilling takes place; 3. replace my p-trap; and 4. install a new electrical junction box (I had exposed wires). I took pictures and sent them to my plumber and electrical friends, that live in New Jersey (high cost area). They both told me I was getting ripped off. I told the Project Manager that I was given an estimate of $450 to fix the plumbing to install the new vanity and a P-trap is $15 and they would have to hook it back up anyway. I ended up paying $1000, which was still a rip off, as the electrical junction box should've only been around $300 and I should've been told about the metal bands b/c my pipes were exposed when they came to do the estimate. read more

Again, BHS is trying to avoid their responsibility. First, they're lying about "We notified the customer in writing that if they wanted to go with taller cabinets, there would be a change order to remove the bulkhead to fit the taller cabinets." BHS reviewed the order so that "the quote aligns with your contract in terms of scope of work" as their staff said. I attached the email they sent to me after they reviewed the cabinet design and they never mentioned anything about the cabinets being taller. Also, I did not "select" this option. This was the only option given to me from BHS. BHS asked me to approve the design they sent to me, and I approved. Now they're blaming me for doing what they asked me to do. I paid to BHS, and BHS placed the order with the vendor. Everything was under their control, but they just don't take any responsibility. In addition, they did remove the bulkheads but it was not to maintain the schedule. Their staff stopped coming since the day they asked for more money for the extra work. And if removing the bulkheads was not covered under our contract, they should discuss with me and reach an agreement first before doing the work. The contract says BHS is entitled for a pro-rated amount if the issue "could not have been reasonably determined on visual inspection of your home prior to signing this contract". The need of removing bulkheads in case the cabinets are taller could be easily determined on visual inspection. They just did not do a good job reviewing the design. The owner admitted the cabinet is a little taller in his response, which means the size is wrong and my claim is correct. They also should not cut the opening in the picture without getting my agreement first. read more

We hired Beautiful Home Services after reading great reviews on Yelp and Angie's List. We had quite a large project to complete in our new home. We replaced our hardwood floors, re-painted the kitchen cabinets, installed a new island, granite and pendant lights over the island and re-painted our banisters. Let's start off with some positives. Andrew & Craig are very responsive and open to critiques and fixing issues. When we had issues they made sure that they were corrected to our liking. I'm torn because overall our kitchen turned out great. We love the final look and are happy with the quality of the work. But, it took A LOT of effort on our part to be the designers, schedulers, negotiators, etc. I felt like I couldn't just be a customer throughout this process. I had to watch like a hawk, keep a list of things that needed to be completed (and then fixed) and make sure that everything was done properly. Unfortunately, the workers they use are NOT good with the details. We had to ask them to redo a lot of our project due to messy work. This included large drips on banisters that were painted, nails sticking out of our new island, cracked stair nosing, large scratches on our brand new floors, cabinets installed incorrectly etc. We had to point out these issues so that they could be fixed. Thankfully, they fixed the errors to our liking. One other thing to note - their fabricator (Counter Culture) is really difficult to work with. We had to call them on a daily basis to make sure we were getting what we wanted. We also had to take several trips to Silver Spring to see our granite and go over details. I was SO glad when our granite was installed. It actually looked great in the end, but it was such a hassle getting to that point! I'm shocked it turned out so well... but this was after we made several changes to their original plan. So, I give myself and my husband credit for that! So, all that being said... if you are a perfectionist, you might want to look elsewhere. But, if you're willing to put in some work, and be a partner in your reno, they are a good company to hire. It wasn't a perfect experience but then again, who has ever had a perfect contractor experience? I've never heard of one. Food for thought. read more

After reviewing Yelp it seems they have a long history of conducting subpar work without taking accountability for their actions. Think my bank account and home dodged a bullet. Thank you all for the warnings in feedback here on Yelp. Recommend shopping around for reasonable quotes for home renovations. During the estimate process in my home, asked personal pointed questions regarding employment etc. which seemed to be gathered to inflate the quote. Extremely over priced. 20-25% mark-up on renovation quotes with very little supporting information behind the pricing. Seems to be a price gouging operation taking advantage of Military, Federal Employees and Contractors based on their salaries and employment in the area... read more

Beautiful Home Services did a great job with my shiplap accent wall and crown molding project. They helped create an almost seamless shiplap wall. My wall was slightly more than 16' in length and required them to get creative with how they arrayed the boards. They did a great job with painting the wall as well, applying a base coat and three additional coats until the nail holes were invisible. You have to really search for the seams between the boards. The crown in all rooms was done well. They helped me find the right size and got me a good price on materials. The crown in my master bedroom was color matched to my baseboards almost identically. Also, I have some long walls which had some settling over the years and the crown work makes those blemishes look truly straight again. The crown in the other rooms was painted the same as the master, which was not an exact match to the trim in those rooms. They returned the next day and repainted them a much closer shade. They used a different paint vendor for the second coat and the finished product was a little too glossy despite being a better color match. In the end, I ended buying a gallon of the same paint type (Sherwin Williams SuperPaint Semi-Gloss) they used in my master and I partially painted over their second coat in the really shiny spots. Overall, I am very happy with the end product. read more

Our Response to BHS: First of all, we don't "feel" that BHS disrespected our home. We KNOW they have!!! Thanks for the $250 credit on the shotty work. We could have done a much better and CLEANER job ourselves. Unfortunately, we have careers that take up most of our time since we need the income. It's too bad that home remodeling IS the ONE job BHS has and they can't even manage to get that right. The company acronym should stand for "Bogus Home Services" since they can't even own up to the mediocre work that was done in our house by their VERY DISRESPECTFUL contractors!!!!! Here's our side: 1) Yes, Andrew did state that skimming the walls creates a very large amount of dust, however, when we told him that I'm very allergic to drywall dust, he PROMISED us that plastic would be placed up on the bedroom doorway in order to decrease the amount of dust that could travel to other areas of our house. We knew there would be some dust, but we know for a fact that the "invisible" plastic did NOT prevent our entire first floor from being COMPLETELY covered in drywall dust!!!!!! I apologize that we didn't roll our entire bodies in the tremendous amount of drywall dust that covered every square inch in order to take pictures of that in order to prove to them that there's NO WAY any plastic was EVER placed up!!!! Do they have pictures to prove that plastic was in fact placed around the bedroom doorway??? Of course not. Because there wasn't any!!!!! 2) I'm sorry I cleaned up the mess on the floor and around the toilet before the picture was taken. I was in such shock once I got home and saw the absolute disaster of a mess the contractors left so I started cleaning that up immediately. I didn't realize that capturing the mess with pictures was worth more than our word that they disrespectfully left a complete mess in our bathroom!!!! 3) I guess the Boogeyman went into our basement and left all the leaves, dirt and drywall dust everywhere. I suppose he's also the one that used the toilet in our basement and left dirt and leaves on the floor and s**t splatter in our toilet and left the toilet seat up. That would be the only clear explanation since we NEVER use that bathroom. Yep, it must be the Boogyman since BHS clearly believes he exists in our home!!! 4) Tiny amount of fibers?? Again, I apologize for not taking a picture of my entire wardrobe to show that insulation fibers were ALL OVER THE PLACE. I instead took a close-up photo of a few articles of clothing so they could see it was insulation fibers from the attic. Also, there's NO explanation of how dirt and leaves were on the floor of our master bedroom closet!!! Must be that pesky Boogyman again!!! For the record, the ceiling fan was not "replaced". A brand new one was installed, which their disrespectful contractors managed to get paint splatter onto EVERY SINGLE BRAND NEW BLADE!!! 5) Yep, the chipped paint was most DEFINITELY done after their inept contractors put it there!! TOTAL LIE that BHS offered to come back to fix it, but then again, we NEVER want them to step foot in our house EVER again!!!!! 6) BHS states that they didn't work in our basement but then they point out the "one tiny drop on the floor" was cleaned up in less than 10 seconds. Well, how was it that I was able to take a picture of the DRIED paint drop in our BASEMENT if that were the case?? Gosh darn that Boogyman!! 7) We live on a pipestem and do NOT have people walk by. Our mailbox is at the end of the pipestem. I guess it's just "coincidence" that gum was spit out onto our driveway while the disrespectful BHS contractors were at our house???? Oh, the shame of some people to do that while disrespectful BHS contractors were working on our house!!! The storm door left open...CLEARLY THEIR FAULT!!! Thank you for taking ownership of that!!!! 8) "The chair..." REALLY??? There were 4 disrespectful BHS contractors that moved and dirtied up 4 of our kitchen chairs!!! They all CLEARLY sat there and had lunch since they got their dirty shoes all over our chairs and red food stains on our counter!! We would not have minded at all if they used our chairs or bathrooms as long as they kept everything the way they found it. But since they did NOT, that displays COMPLETE DISRESPECT!!!!!!!! Truly professionals in every step of the way! We reached out to BHS end of 2020 summer to finish our basement in preparation of baby #3. Talking to half a dozen others it was a no brainer to go with BHS. Why? From the beginning they have a team we work with on design and layout of everything. Then there is a smooth transition to the lovely ladies who manage all the appointments we needed for materials and other materials we needed/wanted to provide. Then comes in the superstars Ever and Jose. They were the main two here everyday all day just making magic happen! They were able to finish weeks earlier than expected and would have been even sooner if the permit office.... well if you have ever dealt with PWC permit office you know... BHS went beyond our expectations and even took the extra measures in accommodating our want/need to have a custom barnyard door installed by building an internal bull head for it to attach to. Craig was amazing to work with and as one of the founding owners of the company it says a lot when he makes sure to stay involved and check in regularly. Truly professionals. read more

BHS was one of the only companies who would actually come look at the bathroom before quoting, which I liked since I could tell them exactly what I did and didn't want done (other companies gave me a standard reno quote and we had to do rounds of emails: 'take this off, don't want it' or 'I want something different than this"). Quote came in about average for cost. Every person I dealt with, from Alex who gave the quote, to Deanna who helped source and order things, to Kevin the project manager, to Antonio and his guys who did the work, everyone was upbeat, pleasant, and communicative. No complaints, really! And the bathroom turned out fantastic. It feels wonderful to have it all put together properly (it was a real mess before), and I'm honestly excited every time I get to use it :] The actual reno took about a week, plus a day for finishing touches (I didn't have tile work done) and fixes. Antonio was awesome, and talked me through every step to make sure things would be the way I wanted them. They also warranty their work, so I'm content that if something goes wrong I can call them. This review is overdue. We had a great experience with BHS, which was recommended to us by our real estate agent. We wanted to remodel two bathrooms, one of which needed a total makeover. Andrew quickly came on site to determine the scope of work shortly after we reached out and was able to provide an estimate of time and cost right away. The project team followed up swiftly - Maria came on site for measurements and created a 3D image to show the mockup. Then a shopping list was created for us in our project portal along with a timeline. Deanna got on a Zoom call with us to provide feedback on shopping and materials and answer any questions. We had two months to get everything sorted out and purchased, during which Maria was super helpful every step of the way and answered all the questions we had and provided her insight and recommendations. Then the real work started. The crew was very efficient and easy to work with. Three weeks flew by quickly. In the end we could not be happier with the results. We had some small issues after the project was complete, and Craig was able to quickly come on site to address those issues. UPDATE #2: BHS THREATENED LEGAL ACTION. Andrew, the main co-owner of BHS, identified me from my review and sent the following email to my personal account. (edited to remove personally identifiable information) From Andrew: " We have ascertained that you are "Trey P" on yelp that rated us. We feel your rating is grossly inaccurate to how the job proceeded and the communication. I have numerous email chains demonstrating our responsiveness not only during the project but also regarding the warranty related issue that came up after the fact. We are discussing our options with our attorney. Just wanted to let you know that we know it was you. You have a business on yelp.com and therefore understand how damaging ratings like yours can be to a business. It is disappointing that you didn't reach out to us directly to address any issues, but instead felt the need to post an anonymous, inaccurate and slanderous rating about a job that was completed 2 years ago and that we have emails for stating that you were happy. If you had reached out to us directly, we would have been happy to address any concerns you had. " I guess he also responded to my original review with a bunch of BS. Look, I don't get my kicks from bashing someone else's hard work. I don't enjoy the anxiety of writing a negative review and the impact that could have on the target of that review. I also have no personal vendetta, and I get nothing from leaving negative reviews (except legal threats apparently). I'm a normal person who feels he didn't get the quality work he was promised, or the positive experience he paid for. If being honest about my opinion can help someone else avoid having a similarly negative experience, I will share my thoughts freely. And as for my experience with BHS... In 2003, I met the woman who is now my wife. 13 years later, we spent our life savings to buy our first house - This house. And then we hired BHS to make improvements to it. Instead, one of the BHS crew called me the spanish equivalent of fa***t while I was standing in the bedroom. They left tool marks in the floor under the varnish, or sanded it unevenly. Their brush strokes are visible on all the flat surfaces of the door and window frames, some are missing paint along the top edge, and/or have thick runs of excess dried paint in some spots. Our front door is two tones of white on the inside because different BHS crew members were using different paints between coats. And there are others. The bottom-line is this: BHS had high marks on Yelp. They promised quality and we paid a premium over their competition to get it. But they didn't deliver. Yes, they did some things well, but others they did poorly. Some work they did happily, most they did with attitude, and yet other work they did only after a protracted period of consistent hassle. The series of exchanges with Andrew via Yelp including his veiled legal threat (over my OPINION) are indicative of their approach to handling client grievances. Our home had an unfinished basement that we wanted to have remodeled to add more living space, as well as an additional full bathroom, laundry room, and wet bar. We got quotes from a few different contractors and ultimately selected Beautiful Home Services for a few reasons. From the beginning, our sales rep Alex was very friendly and listened to all of our thoughts on what we'd like to have done. He was very knowledgeable and gave us some ideas during the quote process. He was quick to respond to questions and clarifications and the quote was very reasonable compared to some other quotes we received. From the start, we felt the most comfortable with the team at Beautiful Home Services so we decided to work with them for this large job. BHS provides a dedicated project manager for each job which was great - in our case we worked with Craig and he was very responsive throughout the entire project and was also able to accommodate some small changes as the work progressed. It was very nice not having to chase down anyone - we were always able to reach Craig quickly and keep things moving on schedule. The Project Director team is also very helpful in getting materials purchased/selected for the project. They provided us with a detailed shopping list that made it easy for us to know what materials we needed to get and when they were needed. You can also work with their vendors for materials and BHS helps with coordinating delivery/returns/etc. The whole process was very smooth and efficient. The crew that completed the work was very friendly and polite (Alexis and team). There were minimal interruptions from the crew which was great since I work from home, and they also invited us down regularly to show us progress and discuss any specific details of the project that came up on a day-to-day basis. They were clean, efficient, and did an excellent job over all. As far as the remodel itself, our basement turned out better than we ever could have imagined. Our home is older so the ceilings in the basement are lower than the standard height in newer homes. From the start, one of my biggest concerns was making sure we maintained a higher ceiling height wherever possible. The BHS team was able to get creative with some of the framing and other aspects of the project to give us as much headspace as possible and it turned out amazing. The quality of the work was amazing and they provided recommendations along the way such as the types of recessed lights to use, tile setups in the bathroom, and even built us a beautiful custom railing for the stairs leading to the basement. We couldn't be happier with how things turned out and are so happy to have a beautiful new space to enjoy for many years. I would not hesitate to recommend BHS to anyone who needs remodeling work done in their home. From start to finish they were very easy and pleasant to work with, they are transparent and keep you informed of progress throughout, the work was completed on schedule (which was great since we had a couch scheduled to be delivered right after it was done), and they are flexible with payment terms so we were able to align the payments with different project milestones which helped with budgeting. I don't have anything negative I can say about BHS. I will absolutely work with them again in the future for any additional remodeling work we might need. Thank you for everything! read more

I hired Beautiful Home Services for a master bathroom renovation after reading many positive reviews posted online. I'm giving BHS 2 stars because even though I'm happy with the final outcome, it was a series of struggles over the course of 6 months to get here. Leading up to the renovation, I had 2 different project managers who were supposed to be helping me pick out materials. Neither sent suggestions or responded to my emails about selections for my bathroom.  In the end, everything was set up by an assistant. I finally got a 3rd project manager, who showed up to my project on what was supposed to be their start date (it had to be pushed back a week) with no idea of the plans that had been in progress for months. This situation quickly went from bad to worse due to a ton of miscommunication between my contractor, the 3rd project manager, and the BHS offices. My contractor continually lied about things to me and to the BHS office. They tried to charge me over $1,000 for a mistake the contractor made. The contractor even tried telling my project manager I approved of the mistakes, which I obviously didn't. The day my project manager scheduled for my countertop to be measured, the contractor was nowhere to be found, which resulted in delays lasting weeks. He also started to treat me in an incredibly condescending manner. I'm a single woman who was very involved in the project (I built the custom vanity myself) and he treated me like I had no idea what was going on despite my having to essentially act as my own project manager for the entirety of the renovation. I gave him multiple pictures of how pieces should be installed, and his team disregarded them and installed the pieces incorrectly. Ultimately, I complained to the project manager about him, who took him off the job. On their last day of work the contractor still showed up to my house, even after being told not to. There was also an issue with water being spilled upstairs in the bathroom. I was told by the contractor that I would come home to a "small brown spot" on my kitchen ceiling where the water spilled on the floor above. Instead I came home to a hole in the ceiling, with water actively leaking (see attached picture) onto my kitchen floor. He downplayed this to the BHS offices too, who didn't know how extensive the issue was. Thankfully they fixed everything without charging me. This project started in November and was finally finished in April. I was waiting on a piece of hardware for my shower that I notified my project manager about in January. Unbeknownst to me, he left the company and did not relay this information to my now 4th project manager. Contractors came by to finish the project in March without knowing there was still a piece missing. At this point, I contacted the BHS owner and expressed my frustration with the entire project, but mostly how long it was taking. He apologized and let me know he would make this project a priority, and try and order the missing pieces for the hardware ASAP. 3 weeks go by and I only get 1 piece of the 4-piece hardware. Finally, the 4th project manager tells me they're out of stock and I should pick out something new. I quickly googled the entire piece of hardware (not each of the 4 pieces), and found there were over 300 in stock at Ferguson, which is the supplier BHS was working directly with. I have no idea how a project manager, an owner, and the multiple representatives at Ferguson couldn't find this piece when they told me my project was a priority, adding an additional month to this already extremely delayed project. I would absolutely not recommend BHS to anyone planning on renovating their home. This was a horrible experience for me and not worth the time and undue stress for a master bathroom renovation. read more

Everyone I worked with for our bathroom remodel was superb. The salesman who came to our home to help design and provide the quote was friendly and helpful. I recently engaged this company for an exterior painting job on my house. It also entailed power washing and major replacement of wood trim. Not only was I extremely pleased with quality of their work, I was very impressed with the professionalism of the entire company. We just had our townhome master bath remodeled by BHS (total gut), and they were nothing short of amazing. First off, their quote was very competitive and we went with them based on reviews we had seen. After we signed the contract we were provided with some vendors they used to pick all our supplies such as tile, vanity, accessories, etc. We also were able to select from other places, like IKEA, where they don't get discounts. We chose an IKEA vanity for the storage and price. From day one of tear-out through the final touches, the crew was punctual, clean, and very detailed. They asked us about specifics such as vanity height, placement of recess boxes and shower arm location to name a few. They wanted to ensure we were happy with the final product. Moreover, at the beginning and end of each day, the contractors laid down covering to protect our flooring and removed prior to leaving. They ordered the wrong parts. Installed parts with missing pieces. Installed the wrong parts. Threw away parts they needed. Broke parts as they installed them. They damaged my house. Their workers showed up late and left early. Their workers did not coordinate so the electrician showed up expecting to do work but couldn't. They had to regrout three times and still got it wrong. They had to repaint twice. They left the place a mess. They created two schedules and failed to meet both. A job they predicted to take one week took three months to complete. They lost paperwork that showed I paid. Their supervisors got defensive when I pointed out the project's shortfalls. Worse, the leaders blamed their employees and never accepted responsibility. They did a wonderful job of painting our kitchen cabinets white! They took the time to tape and protect everything from the floors to the insides of the drawers so that no paint or sanding dust was left behind. They also filled in holes and caulked around the top Where there was a small gap between the cabinets and the ceiling. It came out with a nice finished look. They put on all of the new hardware for us as well. We will absolutely use them again in the future with other remodel projects that we have coming up. Pricing was slightly higher than some of our other quotes, however the communication and quality that we received made it worth every penny. read more

Worst construction experience of my life. Wish I could go back in time and never heard of BHS, then I would have gone with another company and not lost 10 months of my life dealing with this awful company. I made the huge mistake of hiring BHS for a master bathroom remodel and they said it would take 4 weeks, well it took 10 months and during those 10 months they caused 4 leaks, including 2 leaks that flooded water from my second floor master bathroom, into my first floor kitchen and all the way down into my basement, not once but twice. The crew they assigned to my house was incompetent and unskilled and it was a fight every step of the way with the owners (Craig and Andrew). At the time I hired them, they had good online reviews so I thought we were in good hands - huge mistake. Reading these online reviews now, I see I'm not alone and other customers have also endured terrible experiences. The estimator (Alex) was very good and professional and unfortunately that gave a false first impression that things would go well. What a mistake. Our "completed" master bathroom is a patchwork of errors and poor workmanship and the owners, Craig and Andrew, put their own bottom line first instead of wanting to do what is right for the customer. It was an extremely traumatic experience that I wish never happened to my family. In order to honor the warranty, they wanted us to sign a nondisclosure agreement but we declined. Given how they treated us and damaged our house, we did not think their warranty was worth a penny. read more

These guys did a great job with our bathroom remodel a couple of years ago. We had a horrible experience with another contractor who abandoned the job and left a mess in his wake. (Toilet leaking into the kitchen cabinets was the icing on the cake!) BHS was able to reuse a lot of the materials we had purchased with the previous contractor, saving us money (other contractors we interviewed said they would not). Plus, they gave us so many choices for the materials! We got to choose from a ton of local suppliers. To top it all off, their prices were reasonable (mid range) and the team that worked on our house was reliable and really (almost too) polite. I can't recommend them enough! read more
