Additional tip was requested on top of the 20%. We ended up unknowingly tipping 35% We were never told automatic 20% tip would be mandatory for a table of two only. I don't even mind tipping a good amount to watch the game. Still, not telling us up front and then asking for another tip was just over the top. This is not during the COVID times and demand such tips seems like consumer gauging. At the end of it, we realize on game day the place was so empty perhaps other knew this place seems less than ethical. Definitely underhanded. Big bar, plenty of seating and a nice small seating area by the fireplace for 4-5 to have drinks and appetizers. A good menu and great drinks and appetizers. We had our year get-together here at Beardslee this time. It was a group of 8 people. We had some great time here. Absolutely loved the whole setup of this place. Service was terrific. They have some amazing cocktails and mocktails. Their food is so underrated. Plenty of choices and yummy food! Not sure how 4 hours went just like that there! This place is very large. You will never get that feeling from outside. It's well maintained as well. Big parking lot and a parking garage nearby! We thoroughly enjoyed this place! March 9, 2023 - it was on the eve of my going-away parties (moving to Arizona) and I remembered I held a $50 gift card from my former GM as a Christmas gift. My server was a friendly, quirky brunette that I really connected with over food, drink and banter. They poured me a tester of the Shay Irish Stout and the RIS: Russian Imperial Stout. Operating costs are insane for a restaurant! I get it! But! As a consumer, one of the few things, that should be exceedingly affordable is a salad. Unfortunately, Beardslee Public House's salads are mostly unaffordable when comparing them against nearby spots. Breakdown +1 Service including a friendly staff. +1 Ingredients +1 Drinks (e.g. craft beer) -1 Cost to quality. +1 Accesiblity Background Returning to Bothell, to review the changes and progress of Beardslee Public House, I stopped in during lunch. Walking in, I found the front of the restaurant mostly empty, without reviewing the main dining area. The host greeted me and allowed me to walk up to the bar for service. Settling on a long table near the bar, I ordered a pint of the Vienna Lager and their Chop Chop Salad. Here's the description by the business, per their online menu. "romaine, basil, salami, grilled & chilled chicken, chickpeas, tomatoes, artichoke, olives, mozzarella, parmigiano vinaigrette." Receiving the pint and shortly after, my Chop Chop Salad, something was clearly amiss. In my review, I have included a representation of the serving size of the salad, which was priced at $19. Comparing, it's evident that nearby Sparta Pizza sells a larger salad for $16. Now, I'm sure the price of $19 includes the cost to maintain the lease on the building Beardslee Public House is operating out of. But, the fact remains, this was not an equitably priced salad. But how did it taste? As this is a Chop Chop, not to be confused with a Chop Salad, I'd say it was well seasoned and with the right amount of protein. My only issue was the lack of artichoke, salami, and chickpeas. Adding insult to injury, Beardslee Public House includes an involuntary 20% service charge on your bill, contributing to the souring of this experience. So, would I order the salad again? Probably not. The beer? Of course! There was nothing wrong with that! Overall, in reviewing the various menu prices at Beardslee Public House, it's clear the business is less concerned with creating a salad that inspires value. Giving it a 3 for food and ambiance. The crispy Buffalo chicken wings are probably the best we've ever had. The chop chop salad was fresh with a decent amount of chicken. The shrimp scampi pizza was delicious (could have used more shrimp for the price). We had a lovely shaded outdoor spot under grapevines. Our frustration came with our server. I'll call him "H". It took awhile for him to show up. We ordered drinks and wings. We wait and wait, finally drinks show up. He brought a glass for one of the sodas and it was a greasy, dirty glass. We noticed it after he walked away. Now to find him. Disappeared...again. We finally asked another server, who was fantastic, to change glass and he was on it. Someone else brought wings. We still want to order lunch. No "H" to be found. This went on with ordering, trying to get boxes, getting the bill. Why on earth should I have to pay this dude a mandatory 20%? Full disclosure: I've eaten at Beardslee approx 15 times, and the meals have generally been good with a couple exceptions. Unfortunately, those couple exceptions preceded my meal last night (making it 3 bad experiences in a row now.) Beardslee used to be my go-to spot for a burger or fish and chips, but I can't count on either anymore... Greeter: lose the attitude and try to smile Happy hour menu: 3 of us tried the double-stack cheeseburger, but all 3 couldn't get past the off-taste of the hamburger patties. Fries were also very greasy and one degree away from cold. The fourth in our party ordered the chicken strips and only ate one - - I had a bite of the other strip and it was dry and over cooked. I don't know what has happened...I don't base reviews on one visit as I understand that restaurants have their off nights. But 3 times in a row now? I'm done. I love the cozy comfort food served at this brewery and restaurant. We came to watch the NCAA championship game between the University of Washington and Minnesota. The service was great, and we sat at a table with a large projector screen to view the game. The atmosphere was lively, but not too loud. The ceilings are high with plenty of space between tables. They brew their own beer and distill their own liquors, including zero proof gin! This was perfect for my dry January! read more

His recommendation was to sit in the dining hall as the bar gets a little too loud sometimes. The dining hall was quiet enough for us to have a conversation. went here for brunch for the first time just recently. Sunday morning at 11 o'clock, this massive place was almost empty, There were more employees than there were patrons. Service was ok, food was almost OK, my plate was almost too hot to touch like my breakfast was microwaved or something. The breakfast potatoes were absolutely awful. They really seemed like they had been microwaved! fried potatoes reheated? and then I saw it, the 20% mandatory service fee in which the owners keep 100% of. In the restaurant business this is called the kiss of death. Employees were obviously not happy to be there, I asked two of them what they thought of the 20% service fee, one guy rolled his eyes and frowned. The other guy said unfortunately I can't tell you what I think about it at work!! Atmosphere and style were great. Josh K was an exceptional server! He was very friendly, knowledgeable, personable, and funny! The food was pretty good and the beer was even better. The rest of the service staff were also fantastic, but I didn't get any of their names. The major issue for me was the extra 20% "service charge" that goes entirely to the restaurant. We were given an extra little card (shown in the picture attached) with the menus that explains this charge even though the information is already on every menu. The card even says "Additional gratuities are appreciated, but not expected" which I guarantee leads plenty of patrons to refrain from tipping the full amount that the person who is tending to their every need deserves. I posit that the restaurant owners do not provide any direct service to the customer. They pay people to do that. Therefore, it is shameful for them to ask for a "service charge" that is as high as a tip for "really good service" would be for a server. Good on them to hire great people like Josh, and really cool that they provide benefits to their staff beyond what is the norm in the restaurant industry. Operating a restaurant is difficult and many don't make it for more than a few years. I understand the struggle, but please don't start straying into deceptive marketing strategies. Raise the prices on food or drinks, reevaluate your suppliers, investigate more affordable properties, work on getting better distribution for your beer (which has a great cost:profit ratio), or any number of other strategies to make the venture more profitable so it can provide the great benefits to the employees. I won't be going back there until they drop the obscene 20% "service charge" or I have a job offer to hire Josh away. This service charge trend is ridiculous and I've seen a lot of places charging 5%, but 20% with a comment specifically saying that additional gratuities aren't expected is disgusting. This is my favourite of John Howie's restaurants. It's casual, it's fun to go to with friends or family, and of course the food is fantastic. A great deal of care is put into creating each dish and everything you order truly feels like it is made for you in mind. The steak is a must, but I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. They recently revamped some of the recipes of the mains and the selection of desserts. The local brews are also very quality and any of the servers can point you towards one that suits your palette. This place is a favourite of mine to spend some time with my family and eat good food for warm times. read more

We came here for Easter Brunch, and probably should have stayed home. We did have a big group so I tried to give grace, however there were some things that were definitely just off. Ambiance: The restaurant itself is very cool. It is spaced out, not too loud, and probably the best thing it has going for it. Service: This is hard because everyone working there was extremely nice, and while I do believe they were trying their best, it fell short. We had multiple people at our table who's orders were just plain wrong. The food took an insane amount of time to get to the table. (We were there an hour and fifteen minutes at least before food came out) Once it came out parts of the meals were missing or not edible. Example: we had multiple people order the classic breakfast, should be easy enough, one plate had missing potatoes, others had toast so burnt they could not eat it. I will say the manager came over and comped a few of the meals that could not be eaten which was nice, but after waiting so long for food, it was a massive disappointment. Food: As mentioned above the food was not great. I am guessing they are just not really great at brunch and are probably better at dinner. In fact I have heard they have great dinner so maybe this is a stick to what you know situation! It was sad though because the menu looked soooo good! Other: As mentioned in other comments they automatically add on a 20% service charge that does not even go to the wait staff!! Are you serious? So you pay for your meal, and then get charged the service charge, then on top of that tip your staff (Which they say is not necessary but how sad is that to staff who are trying really hard and probably don't make much in tips because people skip it due to this charge). We decided to try brunch at Beardslee Public House and are glad we did! We sat outside on the dog friendly patio and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Our server was great. Alex was attentive and helpful. He checked on us frequently and refilled our drinks as needed. We got the got the tempura bacon and the homemade pretzel for apps. The tempura bacon was unique and creative. I have never had anything like this before. There was a bit more breading than I would have liked, but dipping it in the maple-sabal dipping sauce was super yummy and filling. I got the chicken and waffle as my meal. The waffle was unique as it had corn and poblano mixed in the batter. I was a bit off put by this at first, but once again, it provided a unique take on a standard dish. My husband got a cheeseburger which he devoured. Our friend got the goat cheese and strawberry salad with steelhead fish which looked super bright and refreshing. read more

Large space, and we chose to sit in the bar area since it was immediate seating. You can order the entire menu in the bar area. We are gluten free; therefore, requested the gluten free menu. There are tons of options and they seem willing to adapt additional items to make gluten free. They do not have a gluten free only fryer but bake the pizzas in a separate oven. We ordered the gluten free spicy chicken avocado pizza, wagu cheese burger with gluten free bun, and the trio crème brûlée. The pizza crust isn't made in house (so they can guarantee the gluten free certification) but it is so tasty. And the gluten free bun holds together and isn't crumbly. We will be back again to try more items. We couldn't find the cider choice on the menu but noticed they had a choice on the wall next to the bar. read more

Prepare to get fleeced! Food and beer was good, but nothing to get excited about. However, it was all WAY overpriced! $8 for what they call a "Pint" - it was actually a 14oz sleeve glass. I recall a pint=16oz. The amount of food I got for what I paid for was pathetic - $22 for about 2 cups of Jumbalya +$8 to add 6 shrimp - I'm pretty sure that cost them less than $10 to make. But what really pissed me off was that when we asked for the check, the waiter informed us that they automatically add a 20% gratuity charge to the check. If the establishment is providing them health benefits, then why am I being charge for it? I returned. Before the cold weather set in my friends and I gathered here to dine outside. I was cheerily greeted upon entering and when I sat outside I was quickly greeted by our server. He was great - fun to talk with, great recommendations, and a cheerful attitude. The day we went was on a Tuesday and they were offering a discount on tequila drinks so I opted for the Mexican mule. It was refreshing, light, and tasty! I stuck with the burger and loved it as well. It was cooked perfectly and rather flavorful. I opted to decline the special house sauce as it had an allergen my waiter helped identity. I was very impressed with the menu as there was so much delicious looking food! Sitting outside was nice because it was quiet enough we could easily hear each other and with the fencing it gives a little privacy. It also was very nice because the group I was with wasn't comfortable yet with indoor dining. You get what you pay for on Special occasions. I would not come here often. It's very loud and noisy. We were given $100 in gift cards and used it up. I had guava cider and wegayu burger. We shared the sampler which filled me up. There is no meat candy so look at current menu. Spouse had bacon burger and creme brûlée trio, she liked vanilla the best and I helped her finish the rest. It was all fantastic. I took home most of my burger and fries. They gave me a sampling of all of the condiments. The catsup is sweet but it is not Heinz. I loved the blue cheese dressing. I came here during happy hour and met some friends. Pro tip - they've got late night happy hour from 10 - close Fridays and Saturdays! The inside is super cozy, with darker, intimate lighting. We chose to sit in front of the fire on the leather couches. It was a rainy day, so I was really feeling some winter vibes. Would be great to return here then to really get the full experience! We ended up getting a cheese pizza and a pepperoni pizza, both personal sizes cut into four pieces. The cheese was $6.50 and the pepperoni was $7.50. I actually really enjoyed them - definitely nothing fancy but they were loaded up with TONS of cheese which is just how I like it! The happy hour food menu is a little lackluster with not a ton of choices, but it's got something for everyone, so it does the job. Pints of beer were $5 and pitchers were $17. They've also got well drinks for $6. I would for sure like to return for their brunch menu. I normally want something like corned beef hash and biscuits and gravy for brunch, but they don't really have a lot of the breakfast signatures. Their lunch portion of the brunch (I know, the menu is laid out kind of weird into morning and afternoon favorites) actually sounds really good and has lots of options. What really draws me to their brunch menu though is the BOTTOMLESS MIMOSAS! At $20 for bottomless I think it's a tad more expensive than other places I've been, but not too outrageous considering their mimosas range from $9 - 12.
