Yesterday evening (Aug 5) I decided to treat my father to the $1 oyster happy hour after work. We were there from 730pm-9pm. Everything was going well and our bartender who was a friendly girl was treating us very well. We order 4 dozen oysters and two drinks between the two of us. Around 8:15-8:30 another bartender who was a slim Caucasian gentleman came behind the bar to start his shift. I wanted to show my father a picture on my phone but I was having bad service. I asked the slim gentleman if the Bearded Lady has wifi I can use for a quick moment and he replied," no we do not give out our passwords to customers." I said no problem. It was not until my father noticed a gentleman sitting next to us on his ipod. The gentleman ask the same bartender for the password and wifi. My father noticed the bartender whisper the password to the gentleman and tell him to keep it low lol. I then decided to ask my nice bartender for the password and she proceeded to provide it to me. I asked her if it was store policy to not give out the establishments wifi and she replied no not at all. She was actually surprised I asked her. My father and I were very upset at this. We were enjoying ourselves up until this form of discrimination we felt. Then to top it off since my bartender left the slim gentleman had to provide the bill for us. My father and I had: 4 dozen oysters($1 each), 4 beers($5each), 2 hot dogs($5 each). The gentleman through the bill at me and it came up to $130. Now I felt insulted like he was trying to pull a fast one. I made him correct it and the bill came up to $81. I do not know if I will ever come back to this establishment after this experience. read more

The Ginger Prince was delicious, and a perfect cocktail to enjoy on a summer night. I also tried the beer cheese with pickle sandwich, which paired so well with a cold beer. The service was excellent and the environment is a nice balance between intimate and friendly. All in all, wonderful place to hang out. read more

I've never encountered such pretentious and passive-aggressively rude service in five years of NYC. Avoid bartender with shoulder-length blonde hair at all cost. He will likely ignore you for a long time. At one point, he started listening to my order (after I'd been waiting for about 10 minutes), and then ostentatiously walked out to go to the bathroom. When he came back, he ignored us once again and pretended we weren't there. We eventually left because we just couldn't get a drink out of him. My girlfriend recommended we go here for a drink after eating at the taco spot across the street. Little did we know, we were stumbling into a super cool spot with great drinks and an amazing oyster deal. Yes the $1 deal is only on weekends starting at midnight however, I haven't found a place that has the variety and quality of these oysters. This is a really cute place to come for drinks. We came here for happy hour on a Friday evening and found a seat right away. Our waitress was super friendly and took our order right away. We ordered a couple drinks and nachos. The drinks came out pretty quickly but the nachos took 40 minutes to come out. It seemed that only one person was working on food orders and maybe that's why it took so long? And they weren't very good either. My drink was awesome though! Came here for a 3rd try. My drink was 3/4 full, meanwhile the bartender was taking shots with customers. The location is good, the decor is unique and cute, the service is friendly enough, and I love that they have outdoor seating- out front. Their drinks are delicious and really creative, but are just too expensive and as a result, just usually end up ordering wine. If you're in the neighborhood I recommend stopping by. read more

I had there grilled cheese sandwich with was a house made beer cheese with sour pickles. Fabulous!!!!! They didn't have my blue moon beer but I tried their tap greenmarket beer with was good. Well, I expected a bit more. But I guess I didn't do my research lol. The great thing about this place is that it's hip and chill, and the drinks are pretty strong. They also have an oyster happy hour which is great (a dollar for per oyster, but the deal applies to only two types). I can't remember what my partner had to drink, but it was a tropical drink that came with a warning that says two maximum. He enjoyed it. I had the pain killer and the hurricane which were the frozen options. The pain killer was a little too milk based for me, but the coconut flavor was tasty. The frozen hurricane was amazing; fruity and strong. Although this is a bar, it would be nice if they had heartier food options. If you're selling strong drinks, sell some heavier food like fries or tacos. read more

My first experience here was awesome the bartender Diana was so cool and attentive, it made me wanna come back. I came back a week later and met some douchebag bartender and he was the worst. He served everyone around me except me, and some of those ppl came after me. But, a year later I'm here now and I meet Diana and she's the Same warm receptive red head that I like. Doing a bar crawl on a Saturday afternoon and stopped into the Bearded Lady. Cute place with bright yellow retro bar stools as well as retro orange chairs at the tables. Very creative cocktail menu and the drinks were made with care. Nice beer selection as well. Great place to stop for a drink and a snack if necessary. We shared an amazing grilled chews made with beer cheese and slightly sour pickles. It was so simple and amazing. They have a few other interesting bites on the food menu, creative and priced right. I have been going to the Bearded Lady since they opened (and before, if you count Kinky Krowns barber shop, the former tenant). It is best bar around, and a good addition to the neighborhood. I love it! Everything they serve at Bearded (cocktails, beer, and food) seems to be have been thoughtfully designed, created, and/or chosen. The atmosphere is great, not pretentious, and comfortable. They also have a pool table in the back. As for the staff, and management, they are friendly, and welcoming... unless you come in and act like a real jerk. read more

Really frustrating night at the Bearded Lady. I brought some out-town-friends here to show them a cool neighborhood spot and instead was refused service from the bartender. He claimed that the owner had told him to "cut me off" despite the fact that I had consumed exactly one beverage. No explanation was given. It's a really sweet bar, just upsetting that, as a local, I was treated so poorly. Oh well, maybe next time I'll have a better experience; I'm not quite willing to give up on this place. read more

Great place to have happy hour oysters! $1 and the best part is there is so much variety! The day we went there were six different types of oysters. Three from the east coast and three from the west coast. This is pretty rare. There's a big counter that goes around the bar and pool tables. Met up with the boyfriend after work for cocktails and happy hour oysters. It was around 6 pm, still a few open seats around the bar. We order a gin martini, manhattan and 6 each of the 2 varieties of oysters for happy hour. Drinks were on point and filled to the rim, as they should be. I forgot what the names of the oysters were, one being a east coast and the other west. I always prefer briny east coasters, so we got another dozen. I chose this place to meet up with a rather large group on a Tuesday night and it worked out nicely. Justin, the bartender (possible owner as well?) was incredibly helpful about the drinks menu and more than willing to share his high level of expertise on the subject. I appreciated that, along with the fact that I noticed Q tonic on the menu, which is a much better-than-average tonic. There were no vodka drinks on the menu because he is not a vodka fan, but they do have it if you want it. The aesthetic here is clean and cute, but also a little cheap-seeming to me. Then again, the look and feel is very sixties, which is not really my era of choice. I can't speak to the food because I didn't try it, but all in all, this is not a bad spot. The Bearded Lady was almost too hip! It is a good location between the park and Crown Heights. I had a delightfully strong rum based drink topped with a festive umbrella! It is cash only - FYI. The reason I am giving 3 stars is because of the food options. It's very limited and considering the area it is in, I would expect more because of the lack of competition. What's with the stank bartenders? I live down the street from this place and it is sooo hit or miss. Sometimes the service is lovely; other times, it's garbage. Like last night (Thursday happy hour). The squat female (blonde?) bartender was so damn rude. I asked for Bulleit and she literally barked "RYE OR BOURBON?" and then continued to 1) not ask if I wanted another drink 2) ignore me while filling my companion's wine glass. I watched her interacting with other patrons and yeah, she's just rude. I'm not taking it personally but I also won't be taking my business here again (shout out to bearded guy bartender who was polite and attentive).
