Came here with only vanilla left to order. It was towards the end of the day so I wasn't mad. Ordered 4 vanilla cream puff to go. Honestly, these cream puffs were beyond what I thought they would be. The texture was light and fluffy and the cream filling was silky smooth. They look fried and tastes like they could have been fried but I knew they weren't because I read on their website that everything is made in house and baked in there oven. But the texture is unlike any cream puffs I had ever had. And I love anything with a cream filling. These are not like the box in the frozen section you get at sam's or anything like that. They're really good if you eat them in like the next three hours after ordering them. If you wait too long I can understand they might not be up to your expectations. So! Good! Visited here recently and was able to order quickly despite it being a busy friday night, and their menu had so many options that I got two, and then two more to go. The cream puffs themselves were delicious, and you can customize both the cream and the pastry to mix and match. First off, I really can't believe someone besides myself thought it was a good idea to make a store that just sells cream puffs. But somehow I ended up running into one. And what a place it is! This place makes cream puffs and just cream puffs. And there isn't a staggering variety - make 6 different kinds. BUT, they when you walk in, you smell the freshly-baked puffs, and employees are filling puffs as fast as people can order them. As for the cream puffs themselves, they are about the size of a baseball and are delicately crispy (a bit heftier than puff pastry) and taste like they are just out of the oven. And then there's the filling. This isn't that pudding stuff you find in "Bavarian cream" donuts - this is more of a true creme anglaise, like slightly thickened melted ice cream. It is absolutely delicious in its simplicity, and rightfully up there with egg custard tarts as simplicity perfected. read more

This place is great and I suggest everyone goes at least once to check it out. The place is cool and the food is good. Their is a good selection of cream puffs, so you're sure to find something you like. They have a lot of varieties and all of them are good. Plain, chocolate, matcha, strawberry, they even have a crème brûlée one. You go in and pick out the type of cream puff you want, and then you pick the filling. I think they had vanilla and matcha, but also, you could get vanilla ice cream as well in it. This one was interesting. I went when they first opened and tried as many as I could without getting sick, and I wasn't disappointed. The puffs were the right texture, soft and chewy and tasty, and the cream filling wasn't too thick at all, a nice consistency that was gooey and could ooze out if you wanted it too. Also, besides the puffs, the place has a great selection of coffees and teas. All kinds of matcha drinks and green teas and a lot of different coffee drinks, all provided by Boomtown Coffee, a local coffee shop in Houston. So if you like good coffee or like Boomtown coffee, but your in Katy or Beard Papa's is closer, you can always go there and get a lot of the same stuff without having to drive as far. All in all, this is a great place to grab a snack and some coffee. The hype is real, and the lines aren't too bad if you know when to go. My daughter took me here, I went to see what it is all about. I told her never to spend your money on crazy pastries like these again. On an errand to Katy I stopped to get some dessert. These puffs were delicious and totally worth it. We bought a total of 16 in all flavors and they all were very good. Make sure you have plans on serving within a few hours since they get soggy but are still good. The matcha were delicious yet different. If you have a big sweet tooth,this place is probably not for you. I've never had a cream puff before so I thought I'd try this place. When I walked in I was greeted and the lady told me it was a Japanese cream puff. It seems like Japanese style pastries are overall less sweet, which I'm okay with. The service was pretty fast since I got there when they opened. So I got the puff( I got the original vanilla) and was almost too big..but looked cute, as I was eating it, it was soo messy. All I got was a mouth full of bland cream and there wasn't really any texture on the outside. I was pretty disappointed. I expected it to be on the light sweetness side but this was almost flavorless. No vanilla flavor, and the 'puff' was also too flaky to hold any of the cream. As for the price, $3.50 is way too much. I think if they made them a bit smaller, used less cream and focused on making a thicker puff, and sold them for $2. It would be more reasonable. I'm tempted to go buy the frozen pack of cream puffs at the store because I feel like they would be better than this. Overall: good service, bland puffs, unreasonably expensive. read more

Interesting take on cream puffs. Coming from northern Illinois and having traveled to Wisconsin often, they are not what I am used to. They have more of a custard filling and heavier dough. That said still good and worth trying. They are slightly expensive. read more

Soooo worth the drive from the southeast area! First had beard papa's in California and my boyfriend has been hooked on them since. We bought a dozen and they gave a free original cream puff for free! The honey butter shell was crunchy and sweet and the strawberry shell was good. Only thing we wish was for the filling to have a more vanilla taste but with the shell it was well balanced. It's pricy but worth getting every once in a while. Can't wait till the Bellaire location opens since Katy is a bit of a drive. read more

These honestly have to the best cream puffs I've ever tasted but why you gotta be so small and expensive, Beard Papa? (Insert crying emoji)Light, airy, crispy outer-soft inner layer and creamy like clouds, not overtly sweet, heavy or a thick dough like traditional cream puffs. Half a dozen will set you back about $20. I think half a dozen is doable to share for 2 people because trying to just eat one is denying yourself! Plus they're a bit on the small side compared to a traditional cream puff. It is doable but not recommended once you take that first bite! They have several flavors for icing and filling but I feel like the original vanilla and matcha flavors are the best. I believe they have a loyalty program, not sure how often you need to visit or spend to get a discount though as the front end people should do a better job at explaining considering how popular this place is lately. First, the cream puffs are amazing. Light, yummy clouds of perfection stuffed with creamy filling. That's the good news. The bad news: this has got to be the most mis-managed, dangerous baking operation I have EVER laid eyes on. Corporate, I truly hope you're reading. What follows is my list of absolutes after just 45 minutes of observation: 1) Ovens. Removing hot baking trays from the ovens requires that the person who is boxing orders must try to stand to the side while someone else takes the trays and moves them to a speed rack in an extremely narrow space. Serious burns are imminent if they haven't already happened. Suggestion: move the damn ovens to the other end of the line, or into the kitchen WHERE THEY BELONG. 2) Management. Guy in the red shirt: are you on the management team? If so, this comment is for YOU: YOU NEED TO HELP WHEN IT'S BUSY. The young ladies who were working so very hard were polite, helpful and apologetic. You, however, came out ONCE in 45 minutes to check the vanilla hopper. You acted like it was a huge imposition, even refusing to glove one hand when offered a glove by the very nice "boxing" girl. You pumped the vanilla hopper a couple times, looked at the poor girl trying to work it (she'll have carpal tunnel in a week if she keeps this job), like she was stupid, and walked off. You ignored the full trash can next to fresh food, you ignored the giant stack of dishes precariously sitting next to the microwave, you ignored the counters full of crumbs, etc. Those girls didn't have time to breathe, much less clean. The last straw was when you ran out of everything except vanilla filling and did you tell the crowd YOURSELF that you were out? Nope. You decided to send yet another young lady to stand at the door and tell everyone who walked in. For crying out loud, put up a damn sign and keep working. And YOU need to work the room, saying hello, apologizing, etc. 3) Running out of product. It happens. It's ok. But ALL of them except vanilla? And ALL the toppings? Hmmmm...somebody didn't place their order in time...or somebody didn't anticipate, which would be ok EXCEPT that you broke order records last Saturday so you know better! I realize I'm ranting, but I truly hope you at least take the safety/sanitation observations seriously. You've got a great product, but you won't last long if this continues. Katy doesn't often get to be first to have a world-wide loved franchise like Beard Papa's! We WANT you to succeed! read more

Customer service at this location is horrible. My friend and I have attempted on two separate occasions to stop in and try their desserts. We showed up several hours before closing and were turned away. We saw several other couples also being turned away. An employee claimed there were product shortages, but you could clearly see product in the display case. My suggestion would be to go to a different bakery. I would suggest 85 degrees bakery, their customer service is phenomenal. Thankfully, I hear 85 degrees is opening a location in Katy Asian Town. read more
