Why three stars? Unfriendly, stoic staff. Upon walking in, you are not greeted with a smile and a "wilkommen." You are welcomed with a stare. If you aren't a regular it is hard to navigate the counter without knowledge, uncomfortable to say the least. The place is very cute and decorated nicely. Covid precautions are in place. The latte that I ordered was truly only half-full, if that - milk foam was the majority of my cup, sadly. There is no friendliness as you are eagerly picking your pastry. The quality of their products are great and their staff is very friendly. We hadn't been to this place in over 3 years. We were really looking forward to trying out their brunch and baked goods. That being said, the pandemic has made everyone skittish about being in close spaces, both restaurant staff and customers. I felt like my family and I were being funneled like cattle from the entrance door and then to the exit door. We weren't asked if it was to dine in or to go, everything was packed to go, which is okay especially when a place has limited seating. But, the tables and chairs that they once had, were replaced by small chairs and end tables that appeared like they had their legs chopped off, eclectic and neat, but not practical when your trying to eat your food. It made it very difficult for us to eat with our kids there - for an adult to drink coffee and graze a bit, that seating arrangement works. I would strongly recommend the owners to bring their old tables and chairs back to make it a pleasant dining experience once again. I can't wait for normalcy in this world. If you're trying to eat on the go, definitely go and try it out. But, if you want a more relaxed dining experience, keep walking up the street to find it. read more

Amazing breakfast place. We arrived in time for their breakfast buffet so I got a chance to try a bit of everything. They had these chorizo biscuit sandwiches which were amazing. Biscuits were super light and fluffy. We had three dogs with us so we sat on the patio. The waitress came over and brought the dogs a bowl of water without us even asking. This is definitely the best bakery in Bourne! The pastries, cookies, and cakes are always fresh and delicious. We purchased some of their pumpkin banana loaf and it was so moist and flavorful. We also tried a Apple scone and it was amazing. The coffee and drink selections are so great as well. The staff is always nice and helpful! I like Boerne, and I like Bear Moon. On a Saturday morning. We usually get the buffet and a coffee, and the bill comes close to $40 with a tip, for two people. The waitstaff here are generally friendly and efficient, especially those who have been here a while. It is a very small, somewhat cramped space, but there is something welcoming and inviting about the Moon that makes me want to keep going back. Unfortunately, they do not have gluten-free baked goods, so I am totally unqualified to write about what is probably the best part of the buffet. Home. Made. ICECREAM! Loved his place! This was me and my boyfriends first time here. It's small and quaint. It doubles as a breakfast buffet, lunch spot and bakery! One stop shop! We went for lunch based on a review where it mentioned that it was so delicious, to not even worry about clothes cause the sandwich was more important. (Ha!) found out they were referring to the breakfast sandwich. I ended up getting the capture which was VERY good! It was served on a super skinny baguette with a basil aioli, fresh tomatoes and fresh basil. My boyfriend for the Reuben which as also good! Kind of feeling robbed...$2.50 for a can of soda. Had a tasty biscuit but the avocado toast was not what I expected. Started with super dry toast, with some bean paste spread (also dry) and then some slices of avocado and tons of feta. I mean...you can do no wrong with their glaze and moisture-laden cake combo laden with the perfect amount of crushed nuts throughout. The bakery itself feels warm both in its eclectic assortment of seating, a friendly counter, and attentive waitstaff. I love that their dessert is super generous in portion. While on a food tour in the area, the staff each gave us a huge piece of sheet cake that could have fed at least three of us (but was technically a single portion). They do it big in Bear Moon Bakery, ladies and gentlemen. We at the Buffet which is not cheap and we found eggs that were clearly processed liquid eggs from grossville. Brown n serve sausages?? Yuck. Less good. McDonalds is an upgrade on food. Good fare. But only open whenever. For example, Boerne just had their yearly Christmas event, Dickens on Main, and Main Street was PACKED. The Bear Moon was closed. I placed an online order for an assortment of pastries and kolaches. Communication was excellent - they texted that they were out of one type of muffin and let me know the alternatives - and the order was ready when I arrived. Covid precautions were strong and the staff was friendly and efficient. And then - the FOOD! Everything was absolutely delicious - the sausage in the kolaches was a higher quality than I'm used to, and the apple fritter had big chunks of fresh apple. The breakfast buffet is sooo yummy! They have a a great selection of hot items and well as fresh fruits and pastries. We were searching for sausage gravy and this place makes some of the best on top of the yummy southern biscuits. My husband fell in love with the French toast made out of thick homemade toast! It has been awhile since our last visit. We live in San Antonio. I suggested to my wife lets drive up the Bearmoon Bakery in Boerne for a muffin and coffee. We found parking easy in the back. We walked in and all the tables and chairs inside had been replaced with very small (Kindergarten size) tables and chairs...there was one counter along a wall. The breakfast bar had been removed. The wall decor has changed for the worse, very old maps on the walls, little in the way of colors. The selection unfortunately was limited. It was not crowded. This was Sunday approx 11:15AM. The staff was friendly and helpful.. Ordered coffees and a rosemary/currant scone. We tried to enjoy the items but the environment was not good...kiddie seating, tables, old map wall paper, it was almost like a decision had been made not to serve customers who wanted to "dine in" but do everything short of closing inside dining. Frankly, this would have been better. So sorry to see a place we loved to stop in at turn out this way. read more

Hmmm. So I was in the area looking for a place to have coffee and do some homework / watch a movie for a while on a Saturday afternoon. I was driving down the road and noticed Bear Moon CAFE and thought I would give it a shot. As soon as I walked it, there was an employee helping other people that took a couple seconds to welcome me. I inquired as to which cookie was more popular out of a couple, and another employee gave me an opinion that let me get EXACTLY what I wanted (coffee + espresso instead of coffee and a separate drink americano {just for the espresso lol}). Walked in at 6 am on a Friday and there was already a line...good sign right? This place is a throwback to the past. Similar to neighboring shops in downtown Boerne, this is a re-purposed building with wooden floors that creak under your feet and old-fashioned windows and a squeaky front door. Love it. The pastry display is gorgeous. I arrived just as the staff were bringing out freshly prepared evils. OMG. EVERYTHING and yes I mean everything was stellar: flaky, hot, flavorful, and just downright great. Staff were friendly and attentive. I asked for a to-go box for coffee and the staff ran...yes she ran...to the back to fetch one! The weak point is the coffee: brewed regular coffee; nothing great. Our new go-to bakery! Bear Moon is a fantastic little bakery that unfortunately seems to always be low on inventory. As a small bakery their attention is on quality over quantity, in my opinion. This means that if you want your goodies, get there early. I have normally arrived in the afternoon and found the display cases lacking. This is unfortunate. The breakfast buffet is a must! From your breakfast meats, to pastries, pancakes, and house-made granola, you won't be disappointed. It is worth the early morning drive to Boerne just for that! I've only eaten lunch there once and it was ok. Of course Bear Moon is also a café so you won't be disappointed in the coffee and tea department. My biggest criticism of cafés is the price of tea. Come on folks, it's a tea bag, Styrofoam cup and hot water. Charging someone $2.50 is just asinine. This is not just a criticism of Bear Moon but virtually all cafés and coffee shops. Anyway, if you're in Boerne and craving a coffee and a pastry, Bear Moon should be at the top of your list.
