Cafe gets 3 stars for Decent cafe food pricing (what do you expect from a bakery/cafe?), decent food flavor, interesting creative consepts on food combinations. delicious bakery items (though some are a tad pricey for anything more than once-in-a-while splurging) Bill breakdown: Sandwhich & soup/salad of choice $10.45 Ginger Peach Tea $1.80 Lemon Poppy Seed Muffin $1.99 2 slices of cranberry nut bread- Complementary You walk in to see rows of baked delights begging to be eaten, the price tags however can throw you off if you havent tried the products yourself to know they are worth it. The cranberry bread wasnt bad but im not a nut lover and i dont especially like crunchy bread thats not because of the crust. The interesting butter did help add a flavor to it and overall was a nice little starter- i loved that it was free! My eggplant sandwhich was good but the oil they used soaked even the bread through in some spots- while still being delicious it was messy and i was a little embarrased to eat it in public so i took the other small half portion to go. The ginger peach tea was good but i messed it up by trying the sugar substitute sweetner leaving a nasty after taste in my mouth. I didnt enjoy the spring salad at all, i tasted none of the dressing and though it was all fresh and not iceburg i felt like a cow chewing grass. The upside to brighten my plate was the small fresh fruit they include, a thick slice of fresh orange, and a thin but decent slice of juicey watermelon. MMMMM! The food was decent enough i enjoyed it but i dont think ill be going back to eat there, however the lemon poppy seed muffin is sublime and i look forward to a future visit to explore more options- preferrably fresh ones first thing in the morning! read more

The food and drinks are always excellent! Some of the best pastries around. Great place to bring your dog and sit outside. Service, however, is hit and miss. Sometimes we're greeted with a warm welcome, sometimes they don't acknowledge us or give us a scowl when we walk in. Average breakfast/lunch spot.. the baked goods were good but nothing extraordinary. The breakfast buffet looked like it would've been good but since we came at noon on Saturday, it was already ending even though people still came around 1 and they were still putting out food at the buffet, which is really nice of them! I got the breakfast sandwich and enjoyed it.. I'd go back for another one! Service was close to none but we had another individual making sure our water was refilled. I have gone to Bear Moon for years and have loved it. However, my last couple of visits have not been good, both service and quality. Now they act like they are doing me a favor being open. I can deal with that if quality is good but it has gone downhill. Stopped in the other day for a couple of cookies for the drive home. They were both over baked and hard. This was one of first places we chose to eat in Boerne when we moved in 2003. The remains no better place to eat, in my book, in this quaint town. I had a grilled roast beef and swiss on rye sandwich - very good, and a large glass of tasty unsweetened ice tea, which came with a lime wedge. $10.01. For dessert I got a snickerdoodle and a gingersnap to go. Both very chewy and authentic. I've never been able to figure out what makes a snickerdoodle more than just a cinnamon sugar cookie, but theirs had it - very yellow and rich. This place is really adorable but I have two specific complaints: Their pastries/bakery items are much too sugary- beautiful, but none of us can eat them since the sweetness is way over the top. And they Ignore you if you have children- no water refills, no extra napkin, no set of silverware. We visited the Bear Moon bakery during our visit to Boerne for a wedding. This place got great reviews so we were excited to give it a try. Driving up it looked like a great spot, when we stepped out of the car we knew it was, the smell of freshly baked good drew is closer and closer! As we entered we were greeted with smiles and amazing baked goodness! It was hard to pass up the pastries, but we opted for the breakfast buffet. They had biscuits, eggs, grits, pancakes, oatmeal, bacon and anything else you could imagine. Everyone stuffed the mouths and bellies, mom washed it all down with mimosas. It was a delicious, but the pancakes have almonds in them ****NUTS**** my son, luckily, passed them up, but I wish they would have a sign by the pancakes to warn. They had a sign at the end of the buffet, but I didn't notice it until we sat down! The service was friendly and fast, this is a small place and it is pretty packed, but our server was very efficient. We grabbed a box of pastries on the way out and they look divine! We will be snacking on them all day! I would also like to mention that they have outdoor seating and I noticed a water bowl for doggies, y'all know I love my dog friendly restaurants! If you are anywhere near this place, do yourself a favor and stop in for some pastries togo! It looks like they have a delicious lunch as well.... please enjoy!!! read more

Delicious. That was an amazing breakfast sandwich! It came with lovely pickled zucchini and a bit of fruit and bonus mini muffins. We also had the ham and Swiss Parisian baguette sandwich, simple but also very memorable. It was packed up nicely with condiments, utensils and napkins and hand wipes and we were able to eat on their patio. Very clean and courteous. I will remember you fondly, deliciousness! read more

Very delicious french toast with apples. You can tell they make the bread fresh on sight, it makes all the difference. Very small area for seating but I love the atmosphere. Have been 2 times and this was the first to have breakfast at the table. Breakfast buffet is excellent but a little on the pricey side but very fresh. Had the quiche Lorraine which was very nice and great for the price. You can have the pastries delivered to your table while you are waiting which was very nice. Service is not fast but very good once you get it. Seating is VERY tight once breakfast begins at 8:00am. They have limited 4 tops and more 2 tops for seating which fill up fast. Went there on a weekday AM as I've seen the seating chaos on the weekends. Otherwise they have great goods but please plan on waiting for excellence. I went there for my first time but my girlfriend had been there multiple times and loved the place. Almost immediately after entering the store the lady at the register was very rude and I let it slide because everyone has a bad day every once in a while. Then she was rude again once we got to the register so all we got was danish and went down the road to get coffee. It's sad to have such a cute coffee/bakery but have rude employees that ruin it. I went here with my friend and her 3 year old daughter for lunch on a Saturday during restaurant week! This is the place to go for a warm and cozy lunch with anyone who you want to reconnect with. The restaurant is small. There isn't a lot of noise and the wait staff are very attentive. We had the wedge salad which had the best dressing. We each had a sandwich served on a baguette. And we both had a cookie for dessert. So they have some delicate bakery desserts which I wish I would have tried instead. The peanut butter cookie was so good but after seeing the other options in the case I felt like I chose wrong! I think there were petit fours and they looked so good. The coffee is perfect - not too strong or bitter. After you eat, this is the perfect time to walk around the town! I would almost compare this to Luke's diner in Gilmore Girls. After taking a long drive from San Antonio to enjoy coffee and pastries I was very disappointed that my order to go was sold while I was sitting outside. I could have paid for it in advance but I was going to add more items to my order. When I went back in to paid I was told it was sold because they don't hold orders. I was never told that by the cashier or I would have paid. Only one cinnamon roll was left and it was offered to me but I declined. This trip to Boerne yielded two visits to the Bear Moon. One was for breakfast which is so good that even on a Tuesday morning brings in a crowd. The parents had the buffet which was bountiful and delicious, I opted for yogurt and fruit as I did not need an all you can eat buffet of biscuits and gravy, luscious sweet rolls, eggs presented several ways, sausages, bacon, granola bar, fruit, steal cut oatmeal, yogurt and more. The second trip was to pick up a Mardi Gras tradition. ATTN MARDI GRAS CELEBRATORS: Bear Moon Bakery makes the best King Cake I have ever tasted. I had a little taste after breakfast and ordered one for the Husband to take home to Denver. I picked it up before my flight and served it a few hours later. This beautiful purple, green, and gold cake was laced with beads and coins and a baby. The husband was expecting the dry tasteless cake we had from a Denver bakery but was he surprised, it is moist and filled with cinnamon goo and half of the cake disappeared before my eyes. This place was so pretentious it blew my mind. While the location and atmosphere were nice, the rest of the experience really wasn't. It's been mentioned before - the service was definitely lacking. After ordering two of the smallest lattes I've ever seen for $4 apiece we had to send them back because they were nothing but foam and the server rolled her eyes at us when she took them from us. If I wanted a cup of foam I would have bought the cappuccino. Then we ordered our food and I built my own sandwich and when I asked for the spicy mayonnaise that the waitress mentioned I was informed that it's reserved for the "special" sandwiches but she would see what she could do. Of course I didn't get any with my sandwich and she conveniently didn't come back near our table until it was time for the check. I'm not saying that it wasn't a nice lunch, the food was pretty good, but I would try ANY one of the other cafés or delis in the area before I would consider going back to Bear Moon. read more

I love Bear Moon. It has a kind of Gilmore Girls vibe. Very traditional/small town with a good variety of pastries on display and a pretty decent breakfast buffet. I've never been for lunch, nor have I ordered off the menu. However, I want to talk about the Pecan Pies I ordered from them for my family's Thanksgiving dinner a few months back. Can I just say; WOW! They were so amazing that people who don't even like pecans were fighting over the last few slices. The dinner rolls I ordered were a big hit as well. As far as pastries, my husband loves their apple turnover, I prefer the berry flip, and their peanut butter cookies are incredible. We recently tried their sheet cake and it didn't disappoint. As for the buffet, it's by no means bad but it's not my first choice for breakfast/brunch in Boerne. They also make a quality latte. I do wish they had a few more gluten-free options, and at least one vegan pastry at the pastry counter. When we have people from out of town come to visit with dietary restrictions Bear Moon is off the menu, which is a shame because the vibe/ambiance really sets the tone for first time Boerne visitors. Overall I give this place 4 stars. It's very charming and definitely worth a visit. I would order form the counter and grab a latte to go, then go hit up the shops. read more
