I love Dr. Janay Sekhon. She is so thorough and thoughtful at the same time. She has a personality that makes you happy to be there. I have issues with my eyesight which is exasperated by Rheumatoid Arthritis. Dr Janay was meticulous in examining my eyesight and making sure my glasses would be the best they could be. These guys have been here for years. i got fitted and purchased a pair of prescription Oakley sunglasses from them about 12 years ago. Still have em. I remember then, it was solid customer service. Nothing's changed. Came again recently due to one of the nose pad arms on my glasses breaking off. Came in, seen in minutes, issue fixed. They replaced both arms and pads. I've been fortunate to have good vision, so other than basic vision screenings at school growing up, I'm a total novice at exams, glasses, contacts, etc. I recently had a change in vision that concerned me so I made an appt at Beachside Optometry where my husband has gone a few times over the years. Scheduling my appointment was a good experience, but that's it. I arrived at my appt, checked in, filled out paperwork while I waited to be called back. Essentially they performed extra tests on me at the beginning of my appt without asking or notifying me. What if your doctor performed tests on you without your consent? How was I supposed to know what is standard and what is extra in a professional eye check up?? I didn't find out until the end when they gave me the bill. I was shocked and upset because I wasn't expecting a bill given my insurance. The employee placed the blame on me, was rude and showed poor perspective taking. I had to advocate for myself for her to even speak to a manager. Also, they prescribed me glasses at this appt. Keep in mind this is my first pair EVER and as a 40+ year old it was also triggering emotions about aging. I wasn't excited. I was sad and had no idea about corrective lenses (cost, frames, lenses, extra features, etc). My life was about to change. This employee was like a bad car salesman. Again poor perspective taking. You would hope that the person assisting you was actually understanding and helpful; and approached it like a teacher and asked important questions to make sure they best served the patient. She was either inept or rude. The entire vibe was horrible. She seemed annoyed by questions or treated my questions like she thought they were dumb. Clearly she just wanted me to pick out pair and then upsell me on various things to make the bill higher. This was BEFORE I found out about the extra testing. Oh! And I later, after my appt, I found out my vision change was a side effect of medication I was on, and that the eye doctor did not even talk to me about it! Poor case history review! They should have caught that! Needless to say I left and won't be back. Neither will anyone in my family. read more

Every staff member was kind and welcoming. The optometrist herself was one of the most lovely human beings I have ever encountered. So informative, knowledgeable, and warm. The lady at the desk was very cold and not friendly at all. She did address the amount of money it would cost for an evaluation for contacts. I said that I was here for glasses. The next lady pitched the evaluation for contacts as well even after I stated that I was all set for contacts. Very expensive place to get glasses, even after insurance. Fortunately I was able to go 4 miles down the road at get glasses for half the cost of what I was going to be charged for lenses. Designer frames and all the extras!!! I will not go back or recommend Beachside to anyone. read more

I cannot say enough about this place. Not only is today a holiday and they were there working and available for a last-minute appointment that I made yesterday, I was late because it was my first time there and the parking was a little bit difficult and the optometrist Allowed my appointment to happen anyhow although the office was very busy likely because they are very good! She took her time with me and made me feel like I was the only patient there when she was with me. You can tell she totally cares about her patients. The staff is very kind and well organized and even though I did not go there for glasses, because they have such an amazing inventory of them I ended up buying a pair of glasses that I absolutely love. Everyone there is very nice. Usually always have a great experience. Been going to them for about 7 years. Most recent visit though I declined the Retinal Imaging but was then coaersed into it to pay the $39 fee even after I declined as I was told I had to do that or come back at another time to get my eyes dilated instead. I had an exam and was told everything looked good but that the imaging it dilation still had to be done. I went ahead and agreed to the imaging but then was told I could leave. Nobody reviewed the images or anything before I left. Not sure why then I had to pay money for something that seemed pointless and was not even looked at. In the past I have not experienced this issue and have had the $39 waived. Just sad that businesses are about the money and not the service. read more
