What used to be a clean slate before, and then, after it flooded, a dump, became our pride and joy thanks to Robert, Dawid and their team. This has been our first extensive home project, and having them as our contractors made it that much more seamless and less stressful. We had a lot to get done within a specific time frame. Despite being booked for months in advance, Dawid found a slot to accomodate our project, and he and the crew knocked it out in 3 weeks. They even worked Saturdays and holidays to make sure it would be finished on time. Always punctual, hardworking, honest and respectful. We were in awe of their craftsmanship and attention to detail. Robert is a wiz at his craft, he accomodated several of our last minute ideas, made the impossible become possible in the nick of time. Dawid was extremely helpful and informative throughout the entire process, always communicated promptly despite his extremely busy schedule and always had an explanation, advice and an alternative on hand when needed. They even fixed numerous problems with our home that came to light during construction and weren't included in the original plan. Having this crew around brought much peace, confidence and enjoyment into what otherwise has been a stressful, challenging and testing time in our lives, having dealt with the flood, insurance company and our first major remodel. I would recommend them to anyone looking to do anything in their home. You simply won't find a better team. We will turn to them with every project our home requires. Jakubek Inc, thank you again for our beautiful basement. You guys rock!

Arete Renovators was completely wonderful to work with. You hear a lot of horror stories about…read moreChicago contractors, and I can say with 100% certainty that working with Arete is the exact OPPOSITE of those horror stories. My contractor, Ned, and his team saved my sanity this year, as my initial bathroom remodel turned into a bathroom remodel PLUS gut rehab of the kitchen due to a flood in my high-rise building. More details below, but the tl;dr version is the Arete team, led by Ned, was easy to communicate with; had great systems in place for keeping track of everything that was going on; deftly navigated the challenges of working in my high-rise condo while a major riser project was under way at the same time; and gave me a fantastic finished product in exactly the time frame they had promised. I honestly cannot recommend them highly enough. I initially hired Arete just to update my small bathroom in my 1-bed, 1-bath condo in a high-rise. From the minute I met Ned, I knew he listened to me, understood what I wanted and knew which questions to ask to make sure the end result was exactly what I was hoping for. Arete's initial estimate came in a little higher than the other companies I got estimates from, but I had a good feeling about their systems and their great communication, and I am SO GLAD I went with them. When the Arete team came out for the initial walk-through of the bathroom after I hired them, Arete's owner was with them. While he was in my unit, he noticed a significant amount of damage in the kitchen from a flood a few weeks earlier, damage that had been completely missed by a vendor sent out by my insurance company. He encouraged me to contact the insurance company again and request the proper insurance vendors come out on site to investigate. Those investigators eventually discovered a huge amount of water damage and mold behind the walls, which necessitated a gut demo of the kitchen. If the Arete team had not noticed the telltale signs of this damage, I would have never known to push back on the insurance company for additional services, and I would have been living in an unsafe environment as a result. Then, when the insurance vendors gave me the runaround and claimed they couldn't rebuild the walls in my unit for at least three months, Arete agreed to step in and complete the work, and it was done within a week. Then they helped me upgrade my countertops as well. At the same time, they were diligently completing the bathroom remodel (the initial reason I hired them). Throughout that process, they effectively communicated the timeline, contacted me with any hiccups, made sure they got approval for any changes, talked me through the choices, handled all the logistics without my having to do anything (they even picked up some of the the supplies I ordered and stored them for me until they were needed!). They were just generally fantastic to work with. They finished the bathroom in the 5-week timeline they had initially anticipated in their estimate to me. I am SO happy with how the bathroom turned out. Their work was impeccable. So, so grateful for Arete, and for my beautiful new kitchen and bathroom!

We "interviewed" 3 contractors for this project and Metro provided a reasonable and realistic quote and a very thorough contract. I was personally impressed with David's willingness to explain all the details to us in easy-to-understand terms and his proposal was extremely thorough/detailed compared to the other proposals. As other reviews mention, he frequently pointed things out that could be done a different, better, or cheaper way, which we would have never known/thought about. THAT is exactly the kind of expertise and quality we were looking for. He has also been good at answering our billions of questions, despite being extremely busy (everyone decided to do home renovations during pandemic lockdown). The rest of the Metro team was lovely to work with as well, although the language barrier was occasionally amusing/challenging. We also appreciated that the last step of the project involved us reviewing the work and marking anything in blue tape that we weren't happy with (also, don't be afraid to point things out along the way - sometimes things are easier to fix during rather than after). We loved working with David so much that we decided to ask him to do several other projects in our home throughout the course of 2020. Full list of stuff that David and team have done: * Master bathroom: gutted to the studs, replaced vanity, toilet, sink, shower, tub, all tile, moved some electrical, built a linen closet, etc. The only thing we didn't do was move any of the existing plumbing. * Replaced all interior doors and had them painted * Installed a new French door + transom, included creating a new rough opening, moving electrical, installing missing wood flooring and matching to existing floor * Moved and/or installed several electrical boxes * Guest bathroom remodel: replaced vanity, toilet, mirror, light fixture * Retiled fireplace We refer all of our friends to David and the Metro team!

Habitar Design is an Exceptional, Outstanding, Extraordinary Design Firm! High Praise from an…read moreExcessively Particular Couple so this Says A lot..... I was given the opportunity to work with Habitar Design specifically working closely with Mitch Newman and designer Hannah Tindall. My boyfriend and I had just moved into a stunning downtown condo where we were excited to make it our own in terms of design, constructing modern built ins in the family room/living room, adding custom cabinets to our existing kitchen, new hardwood floors, updating two bathrooms and desired a new design layout. And let me say in all honesty, we are excessively demanding with details and obsessive with mundane details....and yet Habitar Design still exceeded our expectations! With many downtown condos, our space was small, but Mitch Newman and his design team allowed us to capture the feeling of "home" and express our taste in our new place. We were immediately drawn to Mitch Newman's attention to detail, level of professionalism, brilliant visionary work, and his craftsmanship is truly an artist's work. His background as a physician demonstrates a level of commitment and knowledge, and all his life experiences really allow him to be magnificent in his craft. I cannot stress enough, the level of quality in his craftsmanship---gorgeous, it was beyond beautiful and better than I had imagined! Our friends & family had no idea we had customized and designed our own built-ins with Mitch, they truly thought we had ordered them from one of the high end Italian stores in Chicago. He was a true visionary from his design of the plans, execution of the construction, selection of materials, even down to the choice of a cabinet or drawer fixture. We also loved working with Hannah Tindall as our designer. She was able to keep us organized with our design ideas and encourage our own creativity but allow us to showcase our design aesthetic in a tasteful, functional, and cohesive manner. Hannah Tindall worked tirelessly to make sure our experience was delightful and inspiring. I would highly recommend Mitch Newman, Hannah Tindall, and Habitar Design, and will definitely use them again in the near future. Unfortunately, my relationship with the boyfriend did end after 6 years, but the most difficult part was walking away from my beautiful home. I didn't want to leave my gorgeous home where Habitar Design inspired and captured my perfect aesthetic combination of personalized palette colors, room balance, modern comfort, and my love for the space. Thank you for the amazing experience and look forward to seeing you soon for a new project!
