Great track day meal. We popped over to this lovely little barbecue joint tucked inside the Sunoco gas station near Cresson Motorsports Ranch. Be sure and check their operating hours so that you can taste their delicious food. After visiting here multiple times while my husband did track events at Cresson, we've always enjoyed our meals. Today however elevated my opinion of them even higher (as in I will definitely be craving in the future). I ordered the broccoli salad and the coleslaw.Oh what joy i have been missing!! These are two of the best sides I've ever had. The sandwiches, breads and meats are tasty, but I'm telling you the broccoli salad and the coleslaw stand out upon above any other others I've ever had. I might just go back to order larger portions if each for my meal. Staff is congenial, efficient, and engaging with all of the customers. We enjoyed their service with a smile and customer service attitudes. Feel free to eat inside at one of the tables they have or get your food to go. Daily specials are available. Long before before Aaron Franklin, Matt Pittman/Meat Church, and 98% of the other acclaimed pit masters in Texas there was John Sanford. He, Bobby Mueller, Charlie Perkins, handful of others were smoking delicious Que long before Danny Vaughn and the hipsters at Texas Monthly scammed folks into thinking they were BBQ Experts. And he's still going today. Been one of my favorite places for many years. When I do get down in the Cresson/Granbury area they are normally sold out. Got lucky today. Hit it around noon. Incredible sliced brisket sandwich on one of their fresh jalapeno/ sourdough rolls. Had to ding them a star for my side. Love the Cornbread Salad. Got order through drive window. My $4 side only had FOUR(4) bites of the favorite. That is unacceptable. Someone just got lazy. But I will be back. And so should you. read more

I called in the day before to pick up for a family gathering. When we arrived they people were super friendly and the food was ready to go as ordered. It was a cute little rustic place with views of the race track in Cresson which is always fun to watch. Arrived with the food and everything looked and smelled great! We ordered ribs, sliced brisket, 2 kinds of sausage, pork and turkey. All were good but the ribs and the brisket were the overall favorites. We had sides of green beans which were great, slaw was really good and different- not mayonnaise based. Mac n cheese which tasted home made and cornbread salad- which we really didn't care for however I had the dressing on the side so it was dry. Overall great place and we will definitely return. The price was reasonable too which is not typical for BBQ. read more

Amazing BBQ every time! They never disappoint. Catch them early as they tend to sell out of certain items. Order at the counter and they'll call you up in less than 5 minutes to pick up order. Attached to a gas station with a drive thru window. Plenty of seating upstairs. This place is always popping! Everything is good but really love the Shanghai sandwich and sometimes they'll do a Thursday special Torta with your choice of meat. Try them for lunch soon! read more

I love this place, and the quality of the meat is better than many, and I know why when I heard the owner talking to another pitmaster about how they find the best. The TASTE - top of Texas in Brisket and their buns for their sandwiches are made custom, jalapeño cheese bread buns. I usually buy a package of buns and order a few lbs of meats - favorites are pulled pork and Brisket. I love the Ribs, but they are always sold out, so get there early. read more

Was a little concerned when I drove up and realized it is attached to a gas station, albeit a fairly good sized one, but this place has been highly ranked. It's right next to some kind of race. Car driving course. Brisket 7 was good not great. Just could've been a little more tender and had a more intense flavorful bark. Pork ribs 7.2 are quite tasty. Perfectly balanced, sweet and spicy red rub. Again could've been a little bit more tender. Not sure I've ever had a corn bread salad, which was mixed with green onion, tomato, scallions, and covered with a white creamy dressing. Fun to eat, but won't be anything amazing 6. Potato salad 5.4 was basic and served in a cold scoop. tried the pecan cobbler for dessert?? Overall, I guess it lived up to my expectations upon driving up. Glad to say I've been here though. This was some of the best BBQ I've ever had. The guys from Drive Exotic told us about it and honestly I expected average bbq. THIS place is exceptional and the The Gobbler was one if the best turkey sandwiches that I've ever had. I think the owner needs to partner with Drive exotic by providing a 5-10% to all customers with a receipt. I bet the word would definitely get out and droves of hungry drivers from the city would pile in... (Gift and curse) Now I see why this is one of the Top 50 BBQ in the state. Had lunch at the Brazos last week and had their Chicken Gumbo. Awesome taste and food. Also had the Green beans. This place is the best, managed and run by the best pit master and cooks around. Breakfast is almost as good as the lunch at Brazos. read more

Ok so they are no longer located inside the gas station, however u enter the gas station and drive a little up and u see them in a trailer by the river!!!  They have opened a mobile dinning area, nice but there are no restroom so be prepared! Great food as always, its my absolute favorite!!! And beside the pounds of meet we normally get, I ordered their gable gable sandwich oh lord!!!! Its a turkey sandwich, my God it melts in your mouth delicious smoked tender turkey, with lots of love in it and yes my mouth drools just thinking about it!!!  You all are great, please stay in business but time you get your own place!!! Once again I find myself driving an hour to come eat at BBQ on the Brazos. Living in the metroplex I am surrounded by good BBQ but this place in Cresson has been the my most consistent and favorite BBQ. Just a great restaurant. Always get a special if they have one. The cat is out of the bag on this roadside BBQ hidden away in a Texaco station - as Texas Monthly just named it to its Top 50. We motored down to Cresson to try to beat the crowds that are sure to follow, and found that BBQ on the Brazos mostly lived up to the hype. The moist and juicy brisket fairly glistened in the light, with a beautiful bark and only a couple dry spots. I also snagged a rib from my companion's plate and found it even better - tender but not falling off the bone, smoky, and coated with a deliciously sweet, light glaze (not sauced). The sides really stole the show, though, and helped me decide between four stars and five. If you love grits, I'd highly recommend the jalapeno cheese grits - marvelously cheesy with just the right amount of kick. I also loved the smoked corn, halved for easier eating and slathered in a buttery coating. The only side that got a thumbs down at our table was the bizarre-looking cilantro cole slaw. If you're looking for a different twist on traditional cole slaw, give it a shot, but if you're expecting conventional slaw you might be disappointed. Want some beer with your BBQ? The best strategy is to send someone in your party to the gas station side of the store to buy the brews just after you place your order - that way, they'll be back with some cold ones just as your order is ready. The gas station will put your beers in a brown paper bag so you can crack them open after you cross back over to the restaurant side. Seating downstairs can be competitive, but I didn't see anyone at the upstairs tables. Overall, a fun BBQ road trip stop! read more

The ribs were on point. The brisket is legit. Missed it on the jalapeño grits. Apparently the cook only cooks them when she's in the mood for it. My loss I guess. Lol. The staff was really friendly and helpful. I'll swing back if I'm ever thru this way. Stop by and maybe you'll get to enjoy them grits. February 7th update. I didn't realize it at the time but I was over charged for my meal that day. I asked for half pound of ribs and half pound of brisket. What I ordered: brisket taco w/cheese, rib meat taco w/cheese (adding potatoes is optional) My take: the hearty brisket taco was good (one is more than enough), not fair to compare but the tortilla is no Valentina's / the rib meat taco had inedible pieces of gristle that I had to pull out of my mouth The place: is inside the Texaco station and the interior is a pleasant and clean space to enjoy your food and there's an upstairs dining area with a view of the racetrack. The folks working there were friendly and passed out pieces of brisket to people waiting in line. Pro Tip: there wasn't any line Saturday at 10:30 am; if you want breakfast tacos you have to get there before 11 am (and by 9:30 am weekdays). read more

This place is a hidden gem. Tucked away in a Texaco gas station in lil' ol Cresson, TX, it's worth the drive. I had the 2 meat plate with brisket and ribs, green beans, and mac n cheese. The brisket could have been a tad more moist today, but the bark on it was absolutely incredible. One of my 3 ribs literally did fall off the bone when I picked it up. Great smokey flavor with just a touch of sweetness and some dry rub seasoning on top. The green beans were good and the mac n cheese was really creamy with a little dusting of small pieces of brisket. Don't go here if its atmosphere you crave, but if like good BBQ, find Cresson on a map and set your GPS. read more

Hasn't been open very long, heard about it and decided to make the trip south to Cresson, just north of Granbury, about 25 miles or so south of downtown Fort Worth on 377, Benbrook hwy. Took me about 25 minutes or so from there, traffic isn't bad, so no big deal. It's part of a Texaco gas station, but more of one of those larger c-store types with a few gas pumps out front. Shares the building space, but has it's own walled off area. Has a few tables downstairs, and some upstairs. Separate outside door, but there is also a door that connects it to the store if you go in that way. I decided to go with the rib and sausage plate. Plate with two sides and a drink was about $15. You get two pretty large helpings of side orders, and if the BBQ wouldn't have been so fantastic, I would say it was pricey. Still a little on the high side, but really, it was good enough to not worry about it. Two good size ribs, and a good size helping of sausage. Ribs appear to have a rub on them, and they're just the right amount of sweet, with good flavor from the rub mixed in. Really good, both meats were great on their own, but the sauce available is really good as well. Pretty unique taste, nothing I've had before, and I assume homemade. A little sweet, but very light. For the BBQ snobs out there, the ribs had a "high end obvious professional smoke ring" (whatever), but for me they were tender, very little fat, mostly all meat on the bone. Very good. The sausage was a little different, not sure how to describe it, while the appearance might make it look dry, because the casing was wrinkled, that was not the case. Once again, I'm not an expert, but it appears they are making their own sausage. Medium coarseness, very good, but not real spicy. They even dropped me off a sample of the brisket, which I tried and while brisket isn't what I value the most that often, it was very good, tender, moist, little fat, and yes it had a nice smoke ring on it as well. I'll be making some good brisket sandwiches with it the next couple of days. Right now I hear they run out of meat on some days, get there early. They post "summer hours" open till 3 pm. Absolutely some of the best BBQ I've had lately, seems like all the new good places are opening up in the outskirts nowadays. Worth every minute of the drive out, any BBQ nuts reading this need to try it out, if this place isn't in the next Texas Monthly best BBQ list top Q joints, something is wrong with those people. read more

We heard this place was great and worth the drive from Dallas so we did exactly that. We threw the dogs in the car and drove an hour to get there around 11 am. We called ahead and they said we could have dogs on the patio just that we'd have to come through the back which is an upstairs patio. We got there and went upstairs to the patio. It has a great big table and you can smell the leftover cooking smells as you walk up. My fiance stayed with the dogs while I went and ordered. The staff was so cool, friendly and nice. I genuinely enjoyed talking to them. I ordered a sausage plate and a rib plate with Mac n cheese, coleslaw, cornbread salad, and mashed potatoes. They even threw on a side of brisket since we drove all the way from Dallas. Seriously, these were the nicest people. The food was so good, the sides were huge! I regret not just ordering the meat by the pound and just sharing a side or two. The Mac was our favorite app. She did warn me the coleslaw was different and it was but I liked it. The cornbread salad was interesting. I've never had anything like it to compare it to so I was glad I tried it. And the mashed potatoes were loaded mashed potatoes. Get them. And the meat...we went all over Nashville trying the best rated bbq and weren't impressed with anything. This was awesome. Ribs fell of the bone, brisket melted in your mouth and the sausage was that perfect pop of crispy outside juicy on the inside. I'm already wanting more for dinner. Oh and the location. Its attached to a gas station. There is seating downstairs, upstairs and that outside deck. The outside deck is shaded and after we ate, it was too pretty and the breeze felt too good so we shared a beer and stayed a little longer.
