Spending time with my grandsons and grabbing dinner. The burgers were great! Maybe the best Sweet Potato Fries I've had, perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and soft & pillowly on the inside. The BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger was really good. My only issue is that I needed more barbecue sauce. I could have easily went and asked for more but it was a long walk back. I'll remember for next time. My daughter got the Queso Burger, the smart thing is do is get the queso on the side. The queso was really good. I did try the Jalapeno Ketchup - not my favorite! The Whiffle Ball Field was great for the kids. My daughter says this place gets crowded and there can be a significant wait. Which means you have to place accordingly. Almost forgot to write a review for this fine establishment! After biblical flooding--in our tent--at Dinosaur Valley State Park, we had to decamp to a hotel in the middle of the night and the whole situation was a nightmare that will eventually be funny family lore but not when you're at the La Quinta Inn in Glen Rose! Anyway, what does this have to do with burgers? Our good friend was aware of our predicament and suggested Grumps as a salve for our woes, so off we went to Granbury. And this place is just what the doctor ordered! We loved everything about it. The vibe is unpretentious and welcoming, the staff is so sweet, and the food was fantastic. You order at the counter, and they'll bring everything out to you. Also, complimentary peanuts! The beer was so cold that the foam on top froze, so that was awesome. We weren't in love with the frozen margarita, but it did hit the spot. All the food was delicious! Sleeper hit is the corn nuggets, which were exactly what they sound like--sort of like a mozzarella stick made love to a hush puppy, and just YUM. The cheeseburger and swiss mushroom burgers had perfect toppings-to-meat ratios, and the fries were also hot and crisp. No nubs! We also got the bacon grilled cheese, and they did not skimp on the meat and it was ooey and gooey and not greasy at all. The NCAA basketball games were on the TVs but there was no obnoxious noise and the convivial spirit of the place (despite being called Grumps!) was palpable. I don't eat burgers very often, but if I crave one, this is my go to. I like to get a wonderful medium rare piece of meat and high quality. I only take off a star off because the burger is always better "to go". In house, you get shredded iceberg and a soggy pre-dressed burger wrapped in paper. If you do take out, you get condiments and veggies separately, with a wonderfully toasted bun and an upgraded fresh serving of crispy green romaine lettuce. It tastes better, looks better, IS better. Definitely the winner. The sweet potato fries are ALWAYS GOOD, especially if you order them crispy. Lunch for two, before tip, is around $30. read more

Update! Best burger around. They claim it, and they prove each and every time we visit. I'm a big fan of the patty melt and the onion rings. Shakes are legit. Classic shakes right out of the malt shop from your favorite classic television show. (Yes, I'm old). Staff is always friendly and helpful. Their interactions with the customers will make you sure they've known them their whole life. Saying hi by name. They actually act as though they enjoy working here. How wonderful (and rare) is that. A tribute to the owners and management. Tap beer served in an ice cold schooner, so cold the contents are likely to start freezing before you find a table. Food is clearly made to order so this isn't fast food, but it won't be long for your order to arrive. In the meantime you can enjoy complimentary peanuts. Best of all this place is just down the road from me so when we (my wife) doesn't feel like cooking this is my go-to place. Love it! read more

Stopped in for a late lunch, first time there. Plenty of staff, placing my order went well. They weren't that busy, but it took a really long time for my food to come out. Burger looked good, rings looked good, for frozen, but not bad. I wish I had known they were going to cook my burger "well done." It was pretty much just a dry heavy lump of meat, not much taste to it. Well done ruined it, a warning about that would have been nice. We found this place via YELP. We were in Granbury and needed a good burger! As usual, YELP did NOT disappoint. We had the queso burger, the bacon cheeseburger and fries & fried pickle chips. Guacamole Hamburger | Grumps claims to be the "BEST," but I beg to differ. It's decent for a local-burger-shop, but nothing too unique here. Even traditionally, I'd say this is a 3.65/5 burger at best... at BEST. The Guacamole wasn't too fresh. Veggies weren't either. The meat tasted overcooked. The buns were a little soggy. Again, decent for a historic local spot, but should not be calling itself the "BEST." Maybe the "HOMETOWN FAMOUS" or "LOCAL" or "DECENT" or "KNOWN." I don't know... just definitely not the best. I can understand why their logo is a grumpy burger ... it's insecure. Fried Pickles | The pickles were as they should be, but again - nothing amazing here. Not half bad though. Chocolate Malt | The malt was probably my favorite part of the meal! With bluebell ice cream, Grumps does a mighty fine job in concocting decently-made shakes! Maybe their grumpy burger is mad that their shakes / sides get more love from me. I'd love to try this place out again and give it better reviews, but the line was short and the wait for the food was LONG. The service was novice. It does have a historic / local-legend feel to it, but that still shouldn't make up for the poor burger experience I partook in.
