The food was AMAZING! Staff was exceptionally friendly and very helpful. Portions were spot on and the coleslaw is top notch (regular, didn't have the house special slaw). Oh, I was talked into the pie, not really, it was so good that I almost took another slice. Check this place out. Cool dinning room. read more

This is a hidden gem! We have loved this place for years for a quick and great bbq sandwich. The outside may be a little less appealing when passing by, but honestly that is sometimes what holds some of the best food on the inside. If you have not been to the BBQ House you are missing out! Lunchtime hours are always busy with many people coming out the back gate of Fort Moore to grab their lunch. The service is always friendly and wonderful! read more

We went on a Thursday at lunch. Ample gravel parking lot. Easy access to porch area for all. We were greeted upon entry and given a quick rundown of the menu and choices. We ordered the Ranger, pulled pork sandwich with chips, easy air pilot (I think that's the name), and a rib plate. Good size portions. Good tasting BBQ. The baked beans were okay. Tasted like out of a can however not bad. The meals were adequate and well priced. Not a bad little spot when you are in the area by Florence Marina or Providence Canyon. read more

The service was not there for me. Also, at that time, they only had mustard based bar be que sauce. Only been there once.

The plates here are great and the sweet tea is like going home! The service is friendly and work together to give your food in a reasonable amount of time. I love this place! read more

Best bbq around Benning , smells like hickory. Pork and ribs are great. Sauce is just right not too sweet. Right off the back gate of the base , great lunch spot for aircrews on halftime from doing bac lifts. read more

Hole in the wall joint that serves good BBQ. Price point - Check I got the Pilot plate, $7.50, which comes with chopped BBQ pork, baked beans and your choice of cole slaw or potato salad, and a 16 Oz Tea. You can sub out items if you do not desire what is offered. The pulled pork was delicious and I also enjoyed the baked beans. Sometimes a lot of these BBQ places like to throw a can of Bush's baked beans and call it a day. If they did that, no worries, at least this establishment doctored them up so I couldn't taste the original Bush flavor. For the price, this dish can't be beat. I would recommend you try this place out; especially if you are near Ft. Mitchell or on the state line between Alabama and Georgia. read more

BBQ House - Pilot Plate. $7.50 - Barbeque Near Me - Fort Mitchell, Alabama

Southern bbq at your fingertips. This is a great hole in the wall bbq spot in Alabama really close to fort Benning's back gate. They offer an old school home style cuisine and traditional Souther bbq with a load of different sides to choose from. What I got: the Ranger Combo. It had brisket and ribs with my choice of two sides. He macaroni and cheese was rich and really tasty. The ribs were fall of the bone good. Overall, it was good go to place for bbq and I'll be back read more

This small BBQ house can be found right outside the back gate for Fort Benning. Great lunch spot, quick and friendly service. The menu is small - but holds all the necessities for BBQ grub! My only complaint is how small it is inside, please expand! The amount of foot traffic really calls for a larger space! read more

Years ago it would have been great but it ain't the same! Pricey, slow, food comes out cold, sandwiches are more bread than they are meat! And the owner likes to talk to you in a degrading way read more

Great BBQ great service and I love the old time cabin type atmosphere! I'm a regular customer!

I think the hype is from lack of options. I got a pilot plate with two southern staples, Brunswick stew and coleslaw. That is my go to order to see if I will like a place or not and this place fell flat. After my pilot plate I needed rescue. Let's start with positives, price was on point, you can't beat the "hole in the wall" atmosphere, and the ladies behind the counter are sweet as the tea you pour out of the pitcher. Where I feel it suffers is the following. Pork- was chucking/chipped perfectly, the texture was great but the medium sauce looked like thousand island dressing and really lacked a direction of flavor. I got generic BBQ, but no specific heat or sweetness. Coleslaw- was an anemic amalgamation of cabbage pickles and pepper. I'd like to see more color. Maybe a carrot. Brunswick stew- really missed the mark. Thin and missing any texture aside from the corn. I'd like to see more sizable meat chucks. Give me something to sink my teeth into. I'll be back because I don't think a place should be judged on the first try. I'll order three different items next time and try a complete new experience. read more

Best BBQ around! I haven't had a single thing there that I don't like. I've been told these are all old, family recipes.

My husband had us stop in and grab a to go order because he remembered stopping in during his many trips to Benning. He remembered it being really good. Unfortunately it did not live up to his memories and he was left disappointed. I had the pilot plate and the pork was ok, nothing special and drenched in sauce. The sauce had a bit of a mustard taste to it. I'm not a fan of BBQ places drenching their meat in sauce. I want to taste the meat and this sauce overwhelmed it, you need the right balance. Getting to the sides the potato salad was meh, it could have actually used more "dressing". The coleslaw intrigued me because it had dill but unfortunately it was loaded with onions it should have been called onion slaw and lacked any other flavor. We have no desire to head back to this little hole in the wall bbq joint. read more

BBQ House - Pilot Plate with no bread plus potato salad and coleslaw - Barbeque Near Me - Fort Mitchell, Alabama

Excellent BBQ and awesome service. The owner walked around and greeted my coworkers and myself. He said the BBQ is smoked for ten hours and it sure tasted like it was. I got the Stryker Dog and it was definitely filling. It was like an open-faced sandwich but with hot dogs, pulled-pork, chili, and other toppings. Also highly recommend the mac n cheese. Could see the casserole dish in the kitchen which means every batch is made from scratch. read more

This is the PERFECT little BBQ dive joint. No one knows the real name, but the locals call it Fort Mitchell BBQ. You drive up thinking this is just another BBQ place, well you'd be wrong. The smell that hits you as soon as you step out of your car is nothing short of miraculously mouthwatering. The dining area outside is picnic tables, and inside is full of dining tables you would find inside your own home with mismatched chairs. Adorable! It's a walk up window to order, and they'll call your number when your order is finished. The real story here is...once upon a time my fiancée was on a skydiving team at the military base across the road (no seriously, across the street is Fort Benning, Georgia; we're on the state line y'all). He loves this place and it was his favorite place to eat when he lived here; we now reside in FL so when we visit friends and family, it's a must stop (and bring home at least 3 pounds to put in the freezer...but I digress). Anyway, he ALWAYS orders the Pilot Plate: half a pound of chopped BBQ pork, baked beans, choice of cole slaw or potato salad and a drink. Well, he gets double beans instead of slaw or salad. AMAZING. Their pork is fall apart tender, and the beans are cooked with jalapeños so there's a nice heat in there. Now the star of the whole joint: the sauce. You could eat it on a shoe and you'd say it was the best thing you've ever eaten. The standard sauce is mustard based; tangy, the slightest hint of sweet, and slap ya mama good. There's also a spicy version of you want a kick in your sauce. I got the BBQ stuffed potato: baked potato the size of my head, stuffed with chopped BBQ pork, cheddar cheese and topped with pickles and that amazing sauce. Basically a BBQ sandwich with a potato as the base. So yummy! The staff are amazing and so sweet, and you're a part of the family when you eat here. It's a must stop anytime you are in the area or just passing through. read more

Ok let me start by saying this is the BEST BBQ AROUND! Great food and a nice sized menu for a BBQ dive. From ribs to bbq burgers this spot has it. A must have if you're in the Columbus/Fort Mitchell area. You're definitely missing out if you don't try this place. read more

It's a funny story how I got to be here, but on a warm dusty Thursday afternoon, I found myself eating....a turkey sandwich... I'm not going to give any rave reviews for that, but that's what I ordered since I don't really eat pork. I know i know. It's a BBQ place, but I thought there would be chicken too. Not so. I tried a bite of the bbq sandwich though and it was tasty. Maybe not quite as tasty as Pig N Chick, but from what I hear, decent for this area of the state. What I mostly enjoyed is the atmosphere. Join the Alabamans and army folk from the Forts and you walk right into a rural bbq joint you couldn't make up if you tried. There was a giant american flag on one wall and a portrait of a dog with a gun and some prey on another. Nice people, good family joint, and simple picnic tables to give you a real sense of a picnic. If you live near here, there aren't a ton of other options so step up on that porch, walk in, and bite into some pork! read more

BBQ here as in most of the southeast US is all about pork... so, I would't recommend it if you follow an halal or kosher diet of course. Otherwise, if you like pork, you'll like the place a lot! We had a BBQ plate that included pork ribs over a bed of pork pieces. It comes with a choice of sides, we had the beans and coleslaw. They provide some pieces of bread and an ice tea. The plate was quite enough for two which is a good value for about $10. Great BBQ taste, everything here is slow cook on wood charcoal. They are proud of their products and they should be! Stop by this little shack in the countryside if you are ever in eastern Alabama! read more

The BBQ House out the Back Gate of Ft Benning (airfield) off Hwy 165 surprised me with its BBQ pork and BBQ Coleslaw. I decided to go with the Ranger Plate that comes with BBQ Pork, Pork Ribs, BBQ Slaw and Potato salad. I really enjoyed the sweat taste of the BBQ Slaw which was highly recommended... and the Pork has a great smoked flavor... I thought the Ribs were kind of dry as I am used to the meat falling off the bone, but the flavor was still good. A couple of my buddies tried the BBQ Chicken and said that it was mouth watering... I will have to get this the next time a come. Oh and the Buttermilk pie is a must to try.... read more

This place is awesome! If you like bbq food and mom and pop type of places this is it! I had the turkey breast platter and went with a bigger group. Decent BBQ..I got the rib/pork combo called the Ranger Plate. Ribs were a little dry but everything else was great. Best potato salad I've ever had and beans were good. BBQ sauce is your typical mustard base but the pork was very tender. Price were good but service slow during lunch. Overall 7/10 read more

Just say NO. I have been driving by this place for years going to BLC graduations. My boss said it was good so why not try a new place. I don't believe in that concept right now. I order the the Ranger Combo( ribs and chipped pork) and my friend order a chopped pork combo. We both ordered back beans and potato salad for sides. The ribs were ok. The pork was nasty and had sauce that was not flavorful( it was badly flavored). The bake beans tasted as if they came straight from a Can with a little BBQ sauce added. The potato salad was mustard based and tart. (To much Mustard and relish) Don't stop just keep going. read more

If you're visiting the Ft Benning area and looking for a can't miss BBQ joint, give this one a try. It's about a 10-15 drive from main post...service is fast and friendly making it a perfect lunch spot. I travel to Benning a few times each year and this spot is always a must visit each time. Went today for lunch and had the BIg BBQ pulled pork sandwich...mild smoke, perfectly moist, topped with a tasty mustard sauce and fresh bun. IMO, it's the best BBQ in the area. Love it. read more

Fort Mitchell BBQ House has the greatest tasting BBQ sauce, cole slaw, and sweet tea in the world. I usually get the Pilot plate with the pork, slaw, beans, extra sauce, and the biggest sweet tea possible. The Ranger Plate comes with ribs additionally instead of substituted.
