Don't let the unremarkable outside fool you, really good food from scratch will be awaiting you inside. Super friendly staff. Bathrooms are kept clean! Delightful place. Ordered chopped pork sammies and we had potato salad and brunswick stew. All of it was good. Great customer service. And drinks were fix your own so we had alrnold Palmers. The Bride and I both ordered the pork. She got the plate and I got the platter. The meat serving sizes were the same. We were not offered any sauce and found the mustard based sauce in the to-go clamshell plates that we had to pick up our food in (no table service). The chopped pork was in 1/4 to 1/2 inch cubes and I thought it was pretty good. She got the Brunswick stew and mac and cheese (40 cent upcharge) as her sides. My taste of the Mac and cheese was pretty good. I got the baked beans and fries as my side. All the sides were good but the serving size was small. We did not see any hot sauce available. read more

Barbecue was just okay, very little to no smoke flavor. Chipped pork had an odd flavor, almost like it had been held for a few days. Ribs were cooked well but again no smoke flavor. If you're passing through the great state of Alabama and somehow find yourself in Eufaula, do yourself a favor a stop by Phil's BBQ. The one negative is that it's not located on the main 431/Eufaula Ave., but if you let your window down the smell of good ole' BBQ will lead you to the location off of E.Hunter and S.Randolph Ave. Plenty of seating inside and they also have what I guess is an outside/patio dining area which is a plus. You can grab a menu at the counter or just look up and you'll see a wall menu. After ordering check out the article that was written about their BBQ. They also have seasoning, bbq sauce, and T-Shirts for sale. Being that I was in a rush I didn't have time for anything messy, so I opted for the Wrap which is located under Specialty Sandwiches on the menu. It's a 10"flour tortilla with your choice of turkey, chicken, ham, or bbq pork with lettuce+tomato+ranch. I chose turkey and added onions and cheese. Needless to say the wrap was amazing! Wife and I were passing through town on our way back from Panama City, and we were craving some BBQ so we pulled up our trusty Google map and found this place, just a block off the main road and MAN we are glad we found it! We're extremely picky about our BBQ; my wife loves ribs and I always love a good BBQ and slaw sandwich. These guys rocked it! First of all it "looks" like a good bbq joint, down to the sign and slogan. We ate here about 4pm on a Friday so it wasn't too busy. I ordered the bbq "chipped" sandwich plate with 2 sides of cole slaw and baked beans. The sandwich was excellent, I put the mustard sauce and regular bbq sauce on it with the coleslaw...heaven. the slaw is good, not too sweet but just the right amount of sweet. The baked beans were excellent, they're a meal by themselves. Wife had the rib plate with baked beans and brunswick stew, she actually couldn't finish her plate, had to get a to-go box. The ribs had lots of meat on them, she was so happy. Same baked beans I had and she said the Brunswick stew was great. They have several different BBQ sauces, 3 of which are mustard based from mild to hot, and a regular sweet BBQ sauce. I mixed the medium mustard with the regular sauce and enjoyed that. Standard drinks as most places, but I had an unsweet/sweet tea mix, tea is brewed perfect. The service is FAST and very friendly, every single employee was pleasant and extremely professional, several different people came out at different times to ask everyone how the food was and if they/we needed anything. Prices are extremely good for the quantity and quality of food. This is now our go to place when we come through this area. So glad we found it. Highly recommend. read more

Bbq was amazing!! I had the chopped pork, baked beans, and Brunswick stew!! Everything was hot and fresh! This plate also included 2 slices of white bread. The customer service is what really set this experience apart for me! This gentleman was so incredibly kind and helpful! He also addressed me by my name as I departed which I thought was very nice. Folks....you just don't get this kind of customer service anymore. If I had to criticize something in the spirit of giving feedback that could benefit the business.....I'd say that it would be nice if the sauces were held in a hot holding unit. I had heard about this place in Eufaula on my search for BBQ throughout Alabama. This was a pretty good find. They give the option of your meat to be chipped or chopped. By meat - I mean pork....no beef here. They do serve ribs, chicken, ham, and turkey. But no combo plate is a downer. The chipped meat is made with the BBQ sauce mixed in. All the BBQ sauces are housemade and are ketchup based. There is Sweet Lucy, named after Sweet Lucy who works in the kitchen. Her sauce has brown sugar and molasses. The other sauce is just called Phil's sauce. It is a mix of mustard and ketchup and has a real tangy taste to it. There is also a medium and hot version of this sauce. There is also a basting sauce but it wasn't very good. My 2 sides were potato salad and slaw. The potato salad was the baked potato and sour cream style. The slaw was a mix of vinegar and mayo but had a sweet taste too. My sweet tea was refreshingly sweet. There is a lot to like about Phil's BBQ. I would give it a 5 but I left still hungry. And there was no combo plate to try all the meats. The value for what I paid wasnt bad as I paid $11. Other than that, this is a solid choice for BBQ. read more

Stopped on the way back to Charlotte from Seaside, FL and really enjoyed the cue! My wife and I both got a pork plate. Mine with potato salad and coleslaw and hers with slaw and baked beans. The sides were all good with the potato salad being the shining star. The pork? YUM. Got it chopped and it was moist, tender with great smoke flavor and a ton of pieces with delicious, crunchy bark. The sauce is kind of mustard/vinegar based with varying degrees of heat. My wife thought it was just ok but I loved it. Reminded me sauce from Jenkins BBQ from back home in Jacksonville, FL. You can find Phill's BBQ about a block from the square that makes up the town center. Phil's is in a standalone red-painted building with a large screened porch and a country pig with "Best Butts in Alabama" underneath. There's also a street sign and if the small parking lot is full, it looks like you can park on the streets. Eufaula is a bit of a sleepy town about half-way between Columbus GA and Dothan AL to the West of the lake and state line. It's a nice stopping point when traveling to Florida from Atlanta so we usually end up taking a lunch here - the city has some fantastic pre-war Victorian survivors that make it very special. The downtown has old storefronts from when whatever industry that was popular here was at it's height - it's a bit run down these days with a few antique stores and a handful of restaurants. At Phil's you order at the counter and your plate is brought to you when it's ready. This is a no-frills type place with recycled seating and local memorabilia on the walls. At the end of the longest wall you'll find a shrine to fishing champion Woo Daves - really - a 5' tall signed poster! We've managed to eat at Phil's a couple of times and both time enjoyed the food. This is smokey BBQ with a bit of rind and a tasty, runny mustard BBQ sauce. I especially like the ribs here though the pulled pork is pretty good as well. You can get the Q chopped, sliced or chipped and there are spicier options on the sauce (there's also a sweet tomato based sauce but I preferred the spicy mustard). The food is served on black styorfoam plates with sides (I liked the slaw and Brundwick stew but wish the latter was served in a bowl) and some sliced pickles. In all the food was above average and the sauce exemplary. The people at the counter were very friendly and willing to answer questions and provide opinions. We stopped in for lunch on our drive home from vacationing in Florida. This was the best barbecue pork platter I have ever had. The potato salad and baked beans were also so delicious! I was starved by the time we walked into Phil's. I chose the first item I saw on the chalkboard menu behind the counter, which was a pork loin sandwich for $4.50. It was tasty, but their were so many more offerings I would have preferred if I'd spent a bit more time perusing the large menu. My hubby had pork ribs which were succulent, moist and tender, booming with flavor. They have their own assortment of sauces too. We saw lots of "to go" traffic as we were eating in the quaint, unique restaurant(a autographed Don Knotts photo hung on the wall). This little restaurant does a BIG business. I think this was our 5th consecutive annual visit. We have tried other BBQ places in a 60 mile radius of Phil's and they don't come close. Although the sauce is great none is needed. Especially on the ribs!! Meat just falls off the bone!! Fantastic. We even ordered extra food to take with us! The referral for Eufaula BBQ sent me to Phil's B-B-Q. Home of "Best Butts in Alabama" according to the propaganda posted all around. First impression was a creosote coated chimney showing the evidence of a history of real wood fire cooking. When you walk in you can feel the classic BBQ joint ambience perfectly accented by the accumulated scent from the cooking with smoke. Second impression was smiling faces and genial people eager to help me make an informed decision about my barbecue experience today. I loaded up with chopped pork and ribs with fixin's. When it hit the table it made me smile. Classic light bread and pickles accented tasty looking meat. First bite was pickles. I like them like that. Baked beans were next and tasted like a complimentary warm & sweet sauce around perfectly done beans. The bean bite was just right. Brunswick stew was good too. A splash of Crystal made it that much better :) The chopped pork - from one of Alabama's best butts I suppose - was spot on. Done enough to yield to a bite and chewed just right too. Moist. Good smoke. A dab in the sweet sauce made it - Alright, Alright, Alright! Ribs bit clean and tasted as good as biting the best butt in Bama ;) I enjoyed all mine.
