2/9/2022 Been looking for some KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) eateries I haven't tried yet. Wanted to get away from the Buena Park or Fullerton area where too many KFC places exist and it gets crowded in that area. Also, been craving for some old skool tteokbokki (or dduk bokki as they spell it here) too, so when I found BB.Q Chicken, I knew I had to go! Looked at the menu on Yelp, as it seems their website is not working. Yelp had their latest menu posted! So called for a take-out order. They said 20 minutes. SPICY GALBI This was from their lunch special - the BB.Q Chicken Meal, which comes with 6 pieces of boneless chicken, flavor of your choice, regular fries and your choice of soda. This is great for first timers who want to try their food. I chose Spicy Galbi which sounded tasty! Btw, there were more than 6 pieces of chicken in this meal. Maybe 8 pieces that were just as big as their chicken wings! The Spicy Galbi definitely did not taste like galbi - at all! It tasted like Smoky Mesquite BBQ with spicy heat. I liked it! That spicy kick, like jalapeño level heat. Slight honey sweetness to the sauce too. I think I would have enjoyed it more if they were wings. The boneless chicken was not crispy, which is why I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked. But would order it again in wings. CHEESLING FRIES The fries came with the BB.Q Chicken Meal, but paid $1.50 to substitute for Cheesling Fries. There weren't a whole lotta fries, but for a chicken meal, that comes on the side, I'd say it's fair. The fries had that powdered parmesan with powdered cheddar flavor going on. Slight sweetness to the fries too. It was strange to me in flavor combo, but kept eating them because it's fries and I can't quit you! DDUK BOKKI Always looking for the best of both worlds. KFC and spicy rice cakes! Yummm! This was old skool style! Loved the taste! It wasn't overly spicy either. Compared to the newer tteokbokki places that have opened, this is not spicy at all! It was just the right amount of spice! Weren't fond of the texture and taste of the fishcakes, but the rice cakes were nicely chewy, bouncy and not overcooked! There were a bit of sauce on the bottom too, so the rice cakes weren't dying from lack of sauce. Will definitely order again in the future. HONEY GARLIC WINGS (10 PIECES) This was mild in flavor. No spice whatsoever except for the minced garlic. You get the sweetness of the honey and the chicken was nicely crispy without it being overfried and moist inside too. This was good! CUSTOMER SERVICE Ordered via phone and picked up my order. Everything was ready by the time I arrived. I quickly paid and left. No issues whatsoever. Happy customer! read more

Fun place in Cypress! We've wanted to try and finally did. Are we glad! Galbi chicken wings were crispy, moist and had an amazing tangy flavor. Fries were crispy too. Used to come here all the time. As some people had stated, they started charging customer for everything. I get it with the inflation but it's hurting the consumer's pocket. I don't believe the quality of the chicken and the sauce is as good as it once were. I ordered the honey garlic, to me the sauce was less/dry and the chicken is small, I mean super small about the size of my thumb. $2 a piece per chicken just about, which is crazy. I called back to talk to the staff, but they couldn't understand what I was saying. There was definitely a language barrier and I think this will be my last time ordering from here. read more

The chicken here is great! Hot and juicy. We ordered the half and half, original and secret spicy. I wouldn't say that the secret spicy is actually spicy. It's more sweet. The original is pretty solid. We decided to eat in, and the service was awesome. They were very attentive. The server let us know that their happy hour is from 5pm-8pm, so we ordered some beers. While everything is great, I did find 2 hairs in my chicken. I also read another review that mentioned the same thing. Maybe they need to reevaluate their food safety precautions. I was craving chicken wings (as usual). This place got good reviews, and so we gave it a try. The food was good, the service was helpful in that he helped us pick out what we wanted. I prefer on-the-bone wings because if they are not on-the-bone, then they are likely a small chicken finger, likely to be overcooked. They were good, not outstanding. It took a looooooong time to get food though. I am not usually in such a hurry that this is an issue, so it was not an issue that day, but I'm just saying-it took a long time. Will we be back? Likely, but there are other places to try. read more

I usually get my KFC in Garden Grove but decided to check out this place because the pictures looked enticing! Half n half (olive oil/secret spicy) ~$25 - the olive oil is probably in the top original KFC I had. Not too greasy, light batter, and the crisp was chefs kiss. The secret spicy was equally tasty. You definitely taste gochuchang and the spice hits you after but it's pretty mild. My only comment is the small portion size however the quality is great and I be a returning customer. :) read more

Grabbed some wings before Super Bowl and since I was in the area for groceries. I opted with the bone in half and half of Golden Original and Secret Sauce. The order took about 15-20 minutes and I did not call ahead of time. The golden original is the classic crispy fried chicken with a nice crunchy outside and juicy inside. The secret sauce was finger lickin good with the sweet, tangy, and spicy combo. Just a heads up that not all the pieces are wings but can be smaller cut pieces of chicken! The BEST cheese powdered boneless fried chicken in the area! The boneless wings were actually meaty and decent-sized unlike some other places. Cheese powder was sweet & savory - so delicious that I continue to eat the leftover powder afterwards haha. We also tried their soy garlic flavor, but honestly we only come back for the cheesling chicken. Prices were reasonable for the portion size & service has been friendly every single time. They use USED Oil You can easily smell the used oil after frying. There was an after taste too. I was just starving and do not wanna waste my money , so end up eating some of it still. I would rather go to wingstop than come back here. Not worth the $. And There's this rude creepy guy too that keeps looking at your table makes you wanna leave early. read more

Visited this place during lunch because i tried the anaheim location and it was great. This location on the other hand, not so good. Certain flavors of the wings you had to buy a minimum of 20pcs for that exact flavor or you cant get it. The fry portions were literally a handful while anaheim was a whole basket. Then we asked for ranch and only sold them by 4oz for $3 or $4 i couldn't understand. However, when you spend $90 on wings a fries you would think ranch would be included. Wouldn't recommend this location, Anaheim location is much better. read more

Update: I'm changing my review to 1 star. The last time i came, the owner was very very rude. I ordered through Uber Eats and went to pick up my food. After I drove for 15 mins to get there, he told me that they aren't going to fill my order because they ran out food. I left empty handed. Im not sure if he is just a rude guy or he saw my previous review and remembered me. I will not be back. There are other bb.q chicken locations. The chickens with sauce just taste like bare fried chicken here compared to other bbq locations bc the owner here is so stingy with the sauce. Cerritos, garden grove, or buena park locations taste so much better. Just go to a different location if u want bbq chicken! My Bb.q world tour continues...As this Cypress location was check off my list tonight. I've been to the other locations (Torrance, Buena Park, Lakewood) and this place was equally as good. Tucked in a small shopping center in Cypress, I've always have driven past this place or eaten at the many surrounding restaurants close by. Finally visited for a dine in dinner. Right away we were kindly greeted by several staff members. Wasn't as busy as I would thought, so we had open seating. As the menu varies each location we glanced over the menu here and noticed some slight differences. Offerings other locations don't have and the wing price/quantity varies as well. We pretty much knew what our order was going to be from the start, but we had surprises of extras also. For starters we ordered the cheese sticks and our go to Rose Dduk Bokki. Main was our other go-to, Honey Garlic Wings (10 piece). If you are a regular here at any location, you know that the food takes time as made to order. So don't expect dishes to come out quickly. First out was our Rose Dduk Bokki. Compared to other locations this had a little more spice level. Not a bad thing at all, still good with a more of kick. Next came our cheese sticks. Dip them in the Rose Dduk Bokki for that extra flavor, great cheese pull here. The cheese sticks are filling, nine to an order we only ate four. Next came out the Honey Garlic chicken. A bit of a mix up as the order that came out was boneless as we wanted bone-in wings. Our server, Kenny was super apologetic, and wanted to correct the order. Again not too much a big deal, but we appreciated the hospitality and his service. The wing came out about about 10-15 after and Kenny treated us with the corn salad and coleslaw sides for us waiting. What a guy! So I'm a sucker for KFC coleslaw and only KFC coleslaw. Something about it is just delicious, but this coleslaw here, was surprisingly close to it! Very good and passes my expectations. The corn salad was also very good, but again to my my surprise I might give edge to the slaw. The wings came out piping hot with that signature crispy and crunch bite. Can do no wrong with the honey garlic wings. I wanted to mention how great our server, Kenny was. He was extremely attentive to us. And was making sure we were taken care of and happy with the food. He definitely went above and beyond for us when he didn't have too. So kudos to you Kenny! Appreciate the hard work and service you've given us tonight. I wasn't able to take pictures as I would normally, due to us being so hungry we just dove into the food. All in all this is another great location and will be visiting soon again. My bf and I were so impressed by the bb.q Chicken - Tustin location that we decided to try this one in Cypress due to it being closer to our home. I was unaware that the bb.q Chicken locations are franchises and are owned by different people but after my visit here I realized the items may vary depending on where I go. First off, this location is a pretty good size. They offer indoor dining with table service so that was a nice option to have. Our waiter (I believe he was the owners son?) was decent. He was only around long enough to get our order then disappeared until it was time to bring the bill. The older gentleman (who I believe to be the owner) was the one to bring out all of the food and he also came to check on us a few times to make sure everything was good. I was actually surprised that we were the only customers especially since it was a Saturday afternoon, when I thought they'd be busy. But nonetheless we had a good experience and service. We ordered the following: Soy Garlic Boneless chicken, Galbi Boneless chicken, Kimchi Fried rice, Corn Cheese, Onion Rings and a side of Radishes. I will say that the kind of chicken they use is VERY different than the Tustin location. And unfortunately not in a good way. It was very chewy and a bit hard to eat because it was tougher meat. Other than the cut of chicken, I did enjoy the sauces they had on them. The kimchi fried rice was ok, it paired well with the chicken but didn't taste as freshly made as the Tustin location. And for the corn cheese - it definitely had a southwest taste to it. Honestly I think they may have added a can of rotel to add to the flavor but it kind of threw off everything when mixed with the Korean fried chicken and kimchi fried rice. Just didn't mix well with an otherwise asian meal. Also, I'm a bit surprised they don't offer a small side of radishes with the chicken. The only radishes we got was the side that we ordered. At the Tustin location they included radishes with each chicken meal as well as the extra one we had ordered. I think the only item that I truly enjoyed was the onion rings - very nice and crispy! Unfortunately I wish that I could say I had a better experience at the Cypress location. Had I known that each bb.q Chicken had a different owner and was ran so polar opposite of another than I probably would have stuck with the Tustin location. It was the first one my bf and I tried - we had such a good impression from that one too it's a shame things were so different here. 3 stars for this location because the owner was nice and some of the items were decent, I just don't think it was good enough for us to come back a second time. read more

I had a very bad experience/interaction with Legend Hot Chicken in Lakewood and the surly prickly owner there named Brandon pretty much told me since I would never be happy with legend hot chicken and it's thick bready batter that I should go eat somewhere else for my KFC fix (check my other review of Lakewood LHC and the circus of a convo that has ensued). Thanks Brandon, I pretty much did just that and now that I've been to BB.Q Chicken, I'm also singing "A Whole New World " because this is one of the best KFC experience I've ever had. I really have LHC Lakewood's Brandon to thank for that! I have since been to BB.Q Chicken twice now and cannot say enough good things about this location, the food and and the friendly staff. Overall very happy with my experience here. The batter here is delicious, the chicken is fried to perfection! Finally a place with a great consistent batter. I've had the cheesling fries, spicy galbi wings, half and half golden olive with secret spicy and they are all hits in this household. Leftovers when there are any heats up in the air fryer to perfection the next day. Also I want to praise the owners and staff here. Super friendly, humble and hardworking crew. I'm a huge fan of BBQ Chicken, and I frequently visit the Cerritos and Buena Park locations to get my fix! If you haven't tried it yet, you have to! It's amazing! BBQ Chicken is known for their Korean Fried Chicken. I particularly love their Honey Garlic and Soy Garlic wings - which are deep fried, crispy, and have a garlicky, slightly sweet glaze on it. Unfortunately, my pick-up order and experience from this Cypress location seemed to miss the mark, in comparison to the neighboring locations I've tried. I'm hoping it was an off-day for this location. I ordered to-go for two large Honey Garlic wings (these orders are 20 pcs each, by the way). They told me the pick up time would be in an hour. That's understandable- it was a busy Sunday. However, when we got there, the food was not ready until ANOTHER hour. The plaza, in which this shop is located, isn't the most lively (abandoned strip mall vibes); so we ended up trying to kill time in the car and the neighboring coffee shop. The food tasted great. Not the best or freshest I've had (for example, you know that very subtle taste when the oil is just slightlyyyy rancid? It kinda had that slight taste). Still, it was great and hit the spot (maybe because we were hungry from waiting for one additional hour from our pick up time...) I also noticed that the wings were significantly smaller in comparison to the other locations I've tried. For example, a wing/flat from Cypress was around 2-2.5 inches in length, compared to Cerritos (3 inches) and Buena Park (3-3.25 inches). And adding to this, the order they gave us was also incorrect. Instead of two honey garlic orders. They gave us one honey garlic and one soy garlic. IMO, I've tried both, and they taste (and look) very similar, but still, this wasn't quite what we ordered. This chain is great, and I love the food; but I'll probably continue to revisit the other locations due to the consistency of those. read more

I have had a number of the other BB.Q Chicken locations, but had my first experience at this location recently. Friends and I came in on a Friday for dinner. We were seated right away; however, we were super lucky to come in when we did since they have limited seating options available as they still practice COVID precautions. We ordered quite a bit of food including the boneless golden olive, BB wings, soy garlic wings, galbi wings, french fries, cabbage salad, and a small cup of radish. One of the favorites were definitely the Original Golden Olive! It was so juicy, moist, and flavorful! Everything came out incredibly fresh that it was hard to wait for the food to cool so we wouldn't burn our mouths biting into it! What I enjoyed most was that the batter on the chicken is both thin but also still very crispy! It kept us from feeling too heavy after all the chicken we ate! One thing to note is while other Korean fried chicken spots tend to give the cabbage salad and radish and a complimentary side, you do have to pay for it here. The radish wasn't pickled in a way I prefer so I would skip this next time. One friend mentioned that the soy garlic marinade was heavy on the garlic and not so balanced with the soy...but still ended up being his 2nd fave flavor! The staff were helpful and I appreciate their patience with all the jokes my partner was making. Overall, had a pleasant experience and will think of this the next time I crave Korean fried chicken! read more

My hubs and I were looking for a late night snack and finally decided to have a sit-down meal bb.q chicken. Previously, we have taken our chicken to go. We were greeted warmly by several staff members. The owner shared that the place was under new ownership as of a few days ago. The restaurant has a big open feel and there is a table that would accommodate a larger party. If you love K-pop, there is a large screen playing K-pop videos :) We ordered the Golden Olive Drumsticks which came out piping hot with a side of white radishes. Seriously....I can never have regular fried chicken again because this chicken was beyond fresh and perfectly seasoned. It went perfectly with the IPA on tap! **Keep in mind that the chicken takes about 20 minutes to prepare. Definitely worth the wait!** We will definitely be back! read more

The chicken wings were good but they charge three dollars for ranch sauce and on top of that their corn cheese is so bad. Please take this advice and change the recipe. The cheese was sour! And didn't match well with the corn. One of the worst corn cheese I ever ever had. read more

Good variety of flavors for chicken too. We got both bone-in and boneless, soju, and beer. We ordered original, BB, and secret spicy. Secret spicy isn't that spicy, FYI... but still taste good (: When you order in, the pickled radish is complimentary! --SEATING-- booth and table seating (or to-go works!) We had a party of 6 and it was not a problem getting seated around 7 PM, Friday night. --SERVICE-- super nice, no issues --OVERALL-- pretty solid spot and I like that they have a rewards stamp card. We ordered BBQ chicken for dinner with the family and of course my family loved it! This is our go to spot for korean wings. We always order the bb wings, honey soy, spicy galbi, french fries, and the cheese dukbokki. The service here is always so nice. Personally my favorite is the bb wings and the spicy galbi. The bb wings looks like regular fried chicken, but the seasoning is actually inside the breading! The spicy galbi has this kick and semi sweet to it which I really like.
