Finally, a Korean fried chicken franchise has made its way to Fresno! As a Korean American who's grown up enjoying authentic Korean food, I was thrilled to see bb.q Chicken open locally. My expectations were high, and while the experience was solid overall, it fell a little short of what I hoped for. The fried chicken, kimchi fried rice, and spicy rice cakes all tasted familiar and comforting, but they lacked the bold depth of flavor I've come to expect from KOREAN food. That said, I understand the restaurant just opened, and some growing pains in terms of flavor consistency, service, and speed are to be expected. Despite the minor disappointments, I'm optimistic about bb.q Chicken's potential here in Fresno. The foundation is definitely there, and I think as the staff gets into their groove, the experience will improve. I mean, I can understand why you have to have a bunch of different sauces and everything on top of that Korean fried chicken because that stuff tasted like shit. I'm not kidding. It's not cheap now to eat anywhere when you spend $17 for eight pieces of chicken you expect at least something that taste good was it juicy? Yes it was juicy, but did it have any taste at all? No, there was no taste to this chicken at all none. I guess if you want to get 10 pounds of salt out and put it all over the chicken maybe that would help with the taste but I'm telling you this chicken was absolutely tasteless and the Bulgogi that I got that was gross. Spicy but not killer spicy. Has tender fish cakes & great chewy noodles. --Cheesling Fries: Strange, but oddly good. Like, weird but tasty in a way that I'll likely crave them at some point. --Golden Original 1/2 Chicken: Fabulously crunchy & juicy. --Honey Garlic: Too sweet, but not very garlicky. They have so many different options of wings to choose from, It's a little wait but your order is made as you order it so the food arrives fresh and hot to the table. They had so many people calling in orders for pick up so you know the place is delicious and good. The wait does take long about half hour from the time you order but they make this FRESH!!!!! The staff is very friendly and when 1 staff member that was assisting us was leaving for the day she wished us a delicious meal. It was so thoughtful! It's worth the wait the CRISP CRUNCH on these wings are insane. It makes Wingstop so unbearable because they overcook their chicken. I was excited to see a new Korean restaurant in fresno but this experience was disappointing. 1. Came on a hot day and the restaurant was very warm inside. I don't think the AC was working. Hard to enjoy hot fried chicken when it's over 100 degrees inside. 2. They don't have a foundation drink station. You either get canned or bottled beverages and when I asked for a water cup I received lukewarm tap water. 3. Asked for ketchup and ranch to go with the fries. I was given tiny 1 oz packets of ketchup and ranch. It wasn't good. 4. No napkins at the table. The lady that took our order gave us 2! but eating chicken gets messy. We could've used a lot more. 5. It was a full house, but luckily, there were a group of people leaving when we got there so we were able to grab a 2ppl table. We ordered the half & half whole chicken with original and secret sauce and a side of debokki. Everything came out fresh and delicious. The chicken had a great crunch, but I was hoping the secret sauce half was fully coated and not half way on some of the pieces. The debokki had great flavor and definitely gave a good spice kick. So happy to see a legit KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) restaurant here in Fresno. This popular chain has locations worldwide, and the taste did not disappoint! There were maybe 7 or so tables inside with what looked like a ton of to-go orders being worked on, so big parties of more than 4 would not be recommended. There is also a sign that states that it could take up to 30 minutes to make. Our cashier even warned us it that they were estimating 45 minutes. While most of the business looked to be take-out or delivery, we opted to try waiting and eat in. What we ordered: Original spicy wings: 5/5. These were perfectly crisp on the outside, piping hot, and juicy on the inside. Each bite had that perfect crunch that you just don't get at fried chicken restaurants anymore. With 3 chili stars, these were the type of spicy that crept up on you as you bit into that second wing. What's interesting is there's no sauce on the outside, but the chicken marinade on the inside is what makes it spicy. Beware if you have a low spice tolerance. Secret sauce, boneless: 5/5. This is what you would expect your typical Korean "yangneum" chicken to taste like. Wet with a sticky, fairly sweet sauce, a slight kick at the end, but still the chicken managed to stay crispy enough. There were no option to order as wings for this sauce, but actually boneless made it much more easier and cleaner to eat. Both orders came with a small side of radish, a nice palette cleanser and typical for Korean fried chicken (nothing to rave about but I did wish they were bigger!) Overall, maybe we got lucky with finding a table and the wait being less than expected. I would definitely come back! I finally got to try this place. Every time I would come it would be a full house and line out the door, told us it would be like 1-2hr wait. Today I came during lunch hours and got the whole place to ourselves. I understand why the long wait for our food because everything is literally made to order, so fresh and piping hot. We got the crunchy garlic half chicken, this sauce is basically or similar to the soy garlic.. sweet and salty with tons of crunchy garlic pieces sprinkled on top. Each order does come with a side of pickled daikon so no need to order that on the side for those of you who like a palette cleanser. Only certain sauces are available for half birds/whole birds. For the wings we ordered a 8pc of the spiciest one available, the flavor on that was delicious and had great heat. The chicken itself is fresh and crunchy just overall bomb! The way they fry that thang is chefs kiss! We also got fries & the lunch combo of the kimchi fried rice which had an egg on top and to add cheese is a $2 charge. Everything we ordered was great, even the fries. The lunch combos are on the menu for same price range for dinner, the only difference is you get a drink with it during lunch hours. The place was clean and spaced out, okay seating but this place gets pretty packed. I would definitely go back to try their other dishes and different sauces. I was patient due to the new opening and a lot of people. 1 year later came to try it again and again 8 wings took 45 checked up on them and told me it'll be another 15 more minute for whatever reason. When I arrived, I checked in, and the cashier--who was very friendly--let me know they were waiting on one more item. I appreciated being greeted as I entered. I ended up receiving my order at 12:16 PM. The Cheesling Fries were well-seasoned and crispy, with powdered cheese adding a nice flavor. Unfortunately, they were cold by the time I got them, likely because they were prepared before the chicken wings. I think the fries would be better if cooked last to keep them fresh and hot. I was hoping for the Ranch to be housemade and good. To find out, $2.50 for two ranch packets... the ranch packets were not good. It tastes like salad dressing for salads. I would suggest not to order Ranch until they change it. PIt was a waste if you're a ranch lover like I am. As for the Gangjeong chicken wings, the batter was crispy with each bite, but the flavor was light and sweet--not my favorite. Overall, considering the experience, I'd give this place 3 stars. I've been to several bb.q Chicken locations, and compared to the ones in Garden Grove and Chino, those spots tend to have better flavor, more sauce, and larger pieces. Another difference is that when reheated, it develops more of an "old chicken" taste, whereas at the other locations it still tastes freshly made even after reheating. Overall, the chicken here is still delicious though, especially when freshly cooked. Still would come back. read more
