My employed BB&D this past week to move us to a condo in Mclean VA. This was the 3rd time we use BB&D. The moving team (4 men) we very careful preparing our furniture/TV, etc and moved all the boxes and furniture without any flaws or damage to the deparing and arriving properties. We were overcharged nearly 50% more, $2,400, than the estimate of $5,140.72 we received in writing when we decided to go with BB&D, resulting in total charges of about $7,559.81. The higher amount was charged to our credit card on the final day of the move without any prior communication by email or by phone / voicemail. After attempting to resolve the dispute through communication with BB&D, we have disputed the charge with our credit card company and are filing a complaint with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for false advertising and because we were not provided with an opportunity to observe the weighing of our items on the truck. My fiancé and I work with contracts and estimates on a regular basis and this total amount of variance is excessive. In the email sent to us with the itemized cost estimate, Giancarlo wrote: "Based on the information obtained during our In-Home estimate meeting, I have been able to put together this accurate proposal for the relocation Services. This proposal is an honest and accurate explanation of the moving services, providing every service to the smallest detail." The detailed estimate provided to us was for packing and moving services from our two-bedroom apartment in Arlington, VA to Morgantown, WV. The estimate was based on a complete inventory of items to be moved that was conducted in-person by the business owner, Giancarlo. The estimate provided a weight estimate to nearest pound for each room. BB&D's estimate seemed credible and was for a slightly lower cost (less than 5%) than that of a competitor which is part of a well-known national chain. The estimate from the competitor also included item weight totals for each room that were about the same as in Giancarlo's estimate. Unfortunately, we did not find this estimate to be accurate given that the amount charged exceeded the estimate by about 50%. When we asked about the large discrepancy from the estimate, he replied that "... it is impossible to make a direct comparison between one move and another, as each move is unique." Each move may be unique to some extent; however it is very possible to create an estimate with minimal variance from the final cost. That is why he conducted an inventory of items to be moved. That is why most moving services can provide an estimate almost immediately based on an inventory of items and moving jobs from comparable residences. We assumed that Giancarlo could about the same as competitors based on his touted years of experience personally and as the owner of BB&D. Why was the amount charged by BB&D so much higher than their estimate? In subsequent emails we were told that packing services increased about $1,100 from $1,953.80 to $3,062, 57% more than estimated, including an additional $833 for packing materials, exactly double the estimated amount. The weight of our items was about 1,900 lbs., 30% more, than the estimated weight of 6,497 lbs. At a cost of $0.2636 per pound, this added about $500 to the moving cost, about 30% more than estimated. At this time, we are still trying to account for where another $500 for this move came from that was charged to our credit card. As a final note I will say this, for the move itself the workers did a satisfactory job, nothing was broken or lost in our move. However, the extreme variance between estimated cost and actual charges $2,400 / almost 50%, has led us being very dissatisfied and would not recommend their services. read more

My experience with Giancarlo and BB&D Moving Services could not have been worse. Giancarlo will pitch himself and the company as professional but he is more of a professional scam artist. He gave us a detailed quote/sales pitch, agree to a max amount, then overcharged us by $750+ while the movers broke our treadmill trying to dissemble it and move it in the rain unprotected. He then tried blaming the breaking of the treadmill on us while rambling on about the contract. Please stay away from this company. read more

I don't usually write this, but my coworker suggested them for my relocation. they charged for shuttle when I told them my delivery address 2 months before delivery date, and the last minute they said the city won't allow it, so they are transferring to a smaller truck and charge me for it. I cannot even begin to explain my disappointment in BB&D Moving Services. First they could not locate my home, then I was charged for boxes they did not even bring in. I was charged for tape that I did not use (several unused rolls were found hidden on my patio. To put my boxes that were not wrapped/taped into a larger box and then no they would put plastic wrap on them. I requested that they take my plants and they said no, we do not take plants. Then what did I see in their truck-plants? Did I mention they got paint on the back of a piece of my furniture and on my storage/laundry room floor. I have spent hours cleaning the floor and asked them to finish cleaning yet I keep hearing it is not our fault. Not your fault even though you insisted on putting a piece of cardboard underneath my couch. Even the card board had a paint stain (never there before). How sad that they say it is not their fault. If only they would accept responsibility my review would have been so much different. I was so surprised and it was not a complicated move just a few miles away. I did have extra items that I needed help with and continued to bring them into the living room. While their offer of help was originally appreciated it turned into a hinderance. I contacted GianCarlo the next day to explain everything and I am still waiting for an apology. Numerous calls, emails detailing the experience. I sent pictures of the damage they caused with by their paint spill. The response, I received from Giancarlo, was that I am wrong. Also, very interesting that they were available so quickly and spend the day with me (this is the height of the season). The good moving companies are booked out weeks in advance. Melvin, one of the two staff members was confused about a friend who had stopped by and said she had blond hair (she had brown hair). The other staff member Gabriel was so nice and even commented about how nice my new home was. Sometimes, I felt I was been intimidated because I was a woman and also wearing a sling (recovering from a fractured and dislocated left shoulder). I continue with my outreach to GianCarlo and we are a far way from settling this dispute. I have taken responsibility for not being as organized as I wanted. I have now used BB&D twice for moving services. Both times they have done an excellent and professional job. First time they moved us from Chile to Boston, which was a huge effort and logistic work lift out of our shoulders. We meet with a sales person who drafted up a quote for us, they showed us where and how I could save money or cut cost. In my recent move these guys were worth every dollar. If I had not hired them, my family and I would have damaged walls or furniture and would have been looking at buying a new things, that would had cost me much more. We contracted with BB&D moving services at the end October for a local move from DC to Reston. Our BB&D rep, Giancarlo, promised to take care of everything. And the company did exactly that. On packing day the five person crew showed up ready to roll. They packed every item in triple layers ( or more ) of paper and boxed them with instructions as to what room they came out of. Crates were provided for art work and mirrors. Then on moving day (2 days later) three trucks and eight people showed up. What an impressive day! Clean, neat, careful, polite and efficient. I was referred to BB&D by my realtor upon closing on my new home. Very professional. Giancarlo, called and scheduled an appointment to visit my townhouse and assessed my household goods. Very courteous, provided a full presentation of the company and their mission. Once I agreed to pricing we scheduled a service date. Upon request they provided (at no additional charge) used boxes to pack my things. On moving day they arrived timely and went right to work. Completed moving in 5 hours with a crew of four. What I liked is that they were very patient with me as I had a lot of stuff that needed to be moved, they provided covers for the carpets, wrapped all my large furniture and appliances, and they were very efficient. My only issue is that I originally was quoted a price based off 3 workers and upon day of service I was billed for 4 workers which I was not expecting. This wasn't part of the agreed upon price . I had to search quickly when a "reputable" mover canceled 48 hours before. I called BB&D with my problem and they solved it for me within 1 hour and about 25% less the other movers. After I made the call the owner was at my house reassuring myself and my wife he would take care of everything for us. They were prompt, fast, and professional. They arrived ready to work on time. did a good job wrapping up furniture and tvs to prevent scratches. Was not to careful with our fragile boxes. Had glass that was wrapped in bubble wrap break. They came by our 2 bedroom apartment and gave us an estimate. we didn't have as many boxes as they thought we would have And ended up charging us 600 dollars over what they estimated. they had Teenagers with them that did a lot of standing around which I assume was to make sure the move took longer than it needed to. As one who grew up moving every few years in a military family, I say these were the most professional movers I have experienced. The owner, Giancarlo, contacted me to make sure everything was in order at every step, from estimate, to schedule confirmation, to post-move follow up. His men moved quickly to pad corners, as well as my furniture, and get my whole mess of stuff out the door. When the building manager forced us to use the elevator and loading dock rather than the entrance next to my unit, BB&D adapted without pause. Upon tally of the final bill, BB&D removed extra time it took them to find my new address when it didn't show up in Google Maps, and they removed the short amount of time they stopped to eat. I am so appalled at this company! I scheduled to have them come and pick up donation furniture on a Monday in June 2021. Despite having asked the owner, GianCarlo for a contract, I never received one. He told me that I didn't need one for donation furniture. On that Saturday before that Monday, I had an emergency and was rushed to the ER. I sustained torn ligaments in both knees!!!!! I need to have surgery now. On Sunday, despite the medications the ER Docs have me on, I had the presence of mind and remembered to email Giancarlo to cancel the pick up for the donation furniture for Monday. For that he should be thanking me instead he responds via email after his "pleasantries" he tells me that he will charge my account $275 because I had to cancel the pick up for the donation furniture last minute!!! The absolute nerve of BB&D movers!!! Should I be thinking about Giancarlo in the midst of my emergency on the way to the hospital in the ambulance????? Not only did I have to cancel with him, I had to cancel my whole relocation move because I have tears in my knees and need surgery to repair them! I explained this to him and it fell on deaf ears!! This company makes me sick! They are UN feeling, UN reasonable and just plain ridiculous! They make no allowances for emergencies!!! Mind you, I NEVER SIGNED A CONTRACT WITH THEM TO PICK UP MY DONATION FURNITURE!!! He said I didn't need to!!!!! I will never do business with them again and I recommend that NO ONE EVER DOES business with them!!! Find a different company! Find an honest and compassionate company!!! It was getting closer and closer to the move in date and every moving company was getting booked. We had everything almost packed up ourselves in boxes. We got in touch with BB&D and found out they were available for the date I requested. They were very professional, sent someone out to give us an estimated quote for the move. They drove out from Virginia, got to our place, and immediately started working after assessing the situation and determining what order everything should be brought into the truck. They covered the corners in soft material so they would not risk scratching or damaging any furniture as they moved. They wrapped everything very securely in blankets and clear packing wrap. They also noted down what items went to which room so they knew even if it was covered. Through the whole time, they worked really hard and the rooms were getting cleared out quickly. I was impressed by how efficient they were and bought lunch to thank them for their hard work. Once we got to our new home, they set everything up again, padding the corners, rolling out the blue carpet to minimize footprints and dust, and they started placing items in every room, asking for our opinions and making sure each item was placed EXACTLY how we wanted it to be. Through the whole process, they were genuinely thoughtful, cared about our home and stayed professional throughout the whole move. Some minor details I thought were really above and beyond were the cardboard underneath the file cabinet (to protect the wooden floor if we had to move it) and the new pegs to our liquor cabinet to hold up the shelves since the old ones were breaking and worn down. One day to pack and one day to move. Best Ever! Very careful and courteous movers. They were professional from start to finish down to the last minute. Nothing broken! No damage to either house! I am previous military and have moved all over the world numerous times and this was by far one of my better moves. The team of Max and Mari are a great team. Mari helped make sure my kitchen got unpacked which was my primary goal for unpacking. And Max made sure we were completely happy with the placement of it all prior to leaving. A full team of female packers was a pleasant surprise! Never seen that before and it was fantastic. Excellent service. Estimate was a little low. You always have more stuff then anyone realizes when they are packing. So the packing supplies cost a bit more. And we had a piano so that was extra and took along time to move out of the house which adds to the expense. I don't often write reviews, especially negative. Our experience with BBD started well. GianCarlos came and gave an estimate, they moved our stuff into their storage facility for 7 weeks, then moved us into our new home. Upon moving in a dresser was broken. I filled out a form. Later we realized 2 ladders were missing. I emailed, no response. My husband emailed. No response. I opened a garment box that was smashed and it had a horrible odor. I had to put all the clothes in the garage, and wash everything 4x, but as I was washing the last 2 items, I went into pockets and pulled out a dead mouse from a jacket. They claim they have never had a mouse issue... well, we never had them in our home either!!, and how odd that it was the ONLY box that was damaged. Later I found another broken item and I immediately sent a photo of it. Still no response. We moved back in June. We have not received a check for the dresser, we only received denial about the mouse, and we have had zero response about the other damaged or missing items. My last email was sent to 3 people at the company and still no word. I am beyond disappointed. And still await a check and a response. And the check is only for $50 (for a $400 dresser)- I guess I stupidly signed something saying $50 for damaged item when I was told they almost never have any issues. read more

I'm former military, and my move with BB&D was my 23rd move in 15 years. Believe me when I say, I know movers. Over the years, I've experienced it all: an army of average movers, a few truly terrible movers (shout out to the guy who was high and took 8 hours to pack the walk-in closet), and a rare couple movers I liked so much I'd have them over to my house as guests for dinner. BB&D falls in the last category. Ian was easy to work with on the quote and very professional. The crew arrived on time and was hardworking, friendly, patient, and extremely careful with my belongings. I felt completely comfortable with them as a single woman. As much as is possible, I actually enjoyed my moving day. (Forgive me for forgetting the foreman's name! Fernando, maybe? He was wonderful.) Later that night, Ian called to see how things went. I had had the team haul away some empty boxes, and I was missing a pillowcase and was worried it might have gotten thrown out. Ian checked the truck, and the crew had already thrown the boxes into the dumpster. **Ian crawled into the dumpster while I was on the phone with him and checked the boxes from my move to see if he could find my pillowcase!** I later found it elsewhere, but how's that for dedication?! BB&D moved us out of our house during a renovation, stored our things for 8 months, and then moved us back in (we were referred to them by our architect). They were very helpful in planning the move, very efficient during packing and the move itself, and took care to protect the house. Moving out, storage, and moving back in were smooth. I have never written a bad review but this whole experience has been extremely frustrating and poorly managed. We purchased a groupon to do a move of a small number or furniture items. Giacarlos came to our 1 bedroom apartment and gave us a large estimate and ignored the groupon. He then said the company wasn't going to honor the groupon. The manager reinforced this, "because it just wasn't working for them". After multiple conversations, the price went up a $100 as the total item number of items to move went down. They wanted 3 movers to move the same piece of furniture that my dad (who was 65 at the time) and my friend (a 36 year old woman) moved with little difficulty when I moved into the apartment. After 1 day search, I quickly found another company that was highly rated who adjusted to our needs with no hassle. read more

His crew was professional, incredibly meticulous with all my belongings, efficient, courteous and very accommodating. Occasionally, I changed my mind as to where something should be placed. Awful experience - We contracted with Giancarlo who came to our home and provided us with a quote. He was a very smooth sales person. When they packed up everything from at our house they did a fantastic job. They covered handrails, and floors. When they arrived in Texas - over 8 hours late and multiple calls to find out where the truck was, only 2 people were there, the thrid was dropping his child off. I asked them come back the next morning. They came back with 3 people, wore their shoes throughout my new home on my new carpet, no protection and no railing protection. There were many items broken/damaged and when confronted Giancarlo gave multiple defenses and excuses including telling me my entertainment center was already damaged (I cut a 1 inch hole in the panel to run wires, they broke the panel in a different area and the cabinet. SO DISGUSTED - WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM AND WOULD NEVER USE THEM AGAIN~!!!!!! read more

He was on time for our initial walk through and offered us two quotes 1)f we wanted to use BB&D to pack our belongings or 2) pack ourselves. When the moving crew came to our house they were very polite and professional. The arrived on time and requested a walk through of the rooms and loading dock area. They placed cardboard and blanks down to protect our stairs, and door frames. They were even careful with how they placed some of our belongings in a storage unit. They were very efficient with the move, especially with wrapping up some of our most fragile belongings. Our belongings arrived safe and sound. They crew placed the belongings in the appropriate rooms, based on how the boxes were labeled. They also asked where things should go, if they needed clarification. I have used this mover twice in moving items to and from storage spaces and used their storage facilities for 4 years. I have used them for at least 20 hours of moving items. I will say that the guys I worked with were kind, accomodating and professional. The furniture was wrapped well also. What you have to watch out with this mover is all the hidden charges that are not disclosed up front. I had 4 pallets of furniture in storage and wanted to get to them to go through them so I could take the items out and decide what to do with them. I was told ONLY that it would cost me in labor for 2 men to get my things out and help to unwrap and wrap, load, whatever was necessary would be $96 per hour. I was able to do all of that in 2 hours. So I guess I naively thought I would be paying $196. Oh no, the bill I received was for $1536.00!! The fees they had neglected to tell me about was a $768 fee for having a forklift operator take down my pallets and that there was a 4 hour MINIMUM in labor for the 2 men totaling $384 plus another 4 hour minimum of $384 to load some pieces they were taking to a charity for me( which I paid separately for). In all fairness Giancarlo reduced that bill to $921 for me because I was so upset about not being told of all the hidden costs. Just remember if you use this mover you will get good service probably but MAKE SURE you understand ALL the charges you will incur in your move and be prepared to pay a premium. read more
