The Atmosphere here is amazing... day or night! I always eat on the patio, which is covered in heaters, so it's perfect for a warm or cold day no matter what. There are beautiful views of the trees, Morro Bay estuary, mountains and the marina at all hours of the day. All of the food that I've eaten here always tastes so good! Some favorites... the shrimp and avocado caesar salad, steamers plate, California chowder, fried green tomatoes topped with scallops, fish burritos, and of course... the homemade pies! There can be a good wait if you arrive during peak hours, so I like to go before or after that... relax, enjoy a beer or a glass of wine and take in the views with friends! read more

The food is excellent and the service is top notch. Jan was our server and was very attentive. Good choices of meals from surf to turf. Beautiful view of the bay especially at sundown. This is by far our favorite place in morro bay for lunch and dinner! Location is great ! It does get busy so ya may have to wait. We were told the mexican food is good, who would guess. We had nachos and they were awesome! The small is HUGE plenty for 2 They make their own chips. Hrimp Cocktail is super , big shrimp with slices of avocado. The fish and chips is delicious. Very light batter with seasonings, no your usual fish and chips! Servers are very nice! There was a young gal there one evening who was very abrupt and bossy when we got there! Yum! Family and dog-friendly, this restaurant had great crab cakes, clam chowder and burgers. A dog-friendly patio and servers who also love dogs, made it our perfect stop. Lovely marina view tops it off. read more

The food was really good. The atmosphere not so much. And a few things just bothered me. Like when we were waiting for a seat. The people right before us who were obviously regulars were asked if they preferred inside or outside.( patio seating). And they went right inside. We weren't asked which one we wanted and put on the patio. When I asked she said there's no room inside. We only had two people. The only problem in the patio was dogs were allowed. Not my idea of a good ambiance. Especially when they started barking at each other. And had to walkaround their water bowls. So if you can get past that the food is good. Oh and heater lamps that were alright at first but when he lit another one behind me I was frying. But it didn't matter cause one of the kids behind me at another table was cold. So it made all the good food nixed. Oh and the last thing. When I asked where the bathroom was she says "I'll show a shortcut". It was through the whole restaurant out the back door and about 50 feet away through the rocks. So by that time I was really miffed. read more

Been there several times since I live nearby, and let me enlighten you all. The food is bland at best and overpriced, just got a Caesar chicken salad for 15$ where the grilled chicken tasted like..... Well actually it had absolutely NO taste, and was rubbery. Calamari strips were way overpriced at 13$ considering it was just a cheap calamari steak cut into strips, and wasn't even pounded out, it was tough! Finally my wife said we are never coming back again, though I love the atmosphere and area... Just crappy overpriced food! read more

Had lunch at the Bayside Café on Mother's Day and found it to be a fun, funky, "locals" place. The food is nothing fancy, but very good. The four people in our party had fish tacos, fish and chips (2) and a cheddar hamburger. We shared an order of outstanding onion rings. The French fries served with the hamburger and fish and chips were also very good. Our waitress was professional and fun. The café offers good value for reasonable prices. I'll be back. read more

Their service was slow. But was pleased with my pasta. My drink came out 10 minutes after I ordered.

The summers of my adolescent years always included a kayak rental followed by pounds and pounds of onion rings from here. So I've tried to make it a point to stop by for a little nostalgia whenever I'm driving through the central coast. Food: The onion rings are still wonderful. The clam chowder and green chile soup are both nice (not extraordinary, but quite nice). The desserts (tres leches and chocolate torte, anyway) are WONDERFUL.The fried fish was overcooked at my last visit, but the batter was a beautiful color so I think they maybe just cut them thinner than usual? The Service: I'm a little surprised to see such unhappy commentary about the service here, since I've always had a good experience. The hostess, has always been very kind, even when it's crazy busy with 30min waits. She even brought me one of her visors once when she noticed I was using a menu to block my face from the sun. The waitresses I've never felt abandoned or insulted by. As long as things stay the same, I'll always come back. read more

I have been to the Bayside Cafe many times as I live in Cayucos, about five miles away. The setting is very nice as you can see Morro Bay from most any seat inside the restaurant. There is also heated outdoor seating if that is your preference. The most important thing to me about the Bayside cafe is the menu. Everything I have tried has been very good. Some of my favorites are the catch of the day sandwich, the hamburger, and the blackberry cobbler. read more

Based on a suggestion from someone at work who raved about the nachos we decided to check the cafe out. We had a lovely sunny day to enjoy the nachos that are better than most because they use homemade chips. It's a sweet and rustic place and we will definitely go again. read more

We came here for dinner. I really didn't want a full dinner so I ordered the calimari strips and chips. I wasn't really expecting anything special and that's just what I got. It was typical fare and nothing special. The next time I go I will order the full dinner and review it again. As for service, we were very pleased. We did have to wait for a table since there were quite a few people arriving at the same time we did.the host and wait staff were VERY friendly and pleasant! I came during what was a slow time of day. But the service was great. The food was really good. One thing I found odd is that they don't have their own bathroom. You have to walk outside and use the public restrooms which is not right for the prices they charge. For the price I would expect a bathroom in the restaurant. Visiting from Fresno, we decided to stop by here on the way to our hotel. Nice little spot with a very friendly atmosphere and kind staff. Also a nice view of the bay / dock. I had the tri tip burrito, pretty good but a few pieces of meat were chewy from fat, maybe next time go for the chicken. Girlfriend had the clam chowder, got the large for only $1 more than the regular, it was good, but a bit fishy for our taste, quite a bit of chunks of crab and clam in there, maybe were too used to the fake not as fresh stuff, lol. read more

I love bayside Cafe. I always forget about it baca us it is slightly out of the way of town. Staff is always friendly and food is always amazing. I love the chowder bread bowl, and my grandpa is obsessed with the green salsa. Whoever cleaned the Windows should get a raise because some guy walked right into it. Startled the entire restaurant. This was a great local hangout off the highway a ways but worth the spot. It is on the bay near boats and dock. It is right near the water. We sat at a great outside table for two overlooking the dock and walkway. Beautiful spot on a Sunny day. Loved the Crab Louie Salad. Good amount of tasty crab. As a local its one of my favorite lunch spots. I love the deck and that it is away from the embarcadero with plenty of parking. They have one of the best chicken cesar salads around. I have also had their vegetarian tostada & their green chili soup which are kinda "go to" items for me. I've been with people who love their fish taco's. It is a great place to come after a round of golf at the Morro Bay State Park golf course or a short but steep hike up Black Mountain for an awesome view of the estuary, Morro Rock etc. read more

Bayside cafe has a cute setting near the water but their tacos are awful. The Cod Taco special was mushy and gooey-- they should just say it is a salad with tons of lettuce and a little bit of mushy sautéed fish. The crab cake sandwich our son ordered was very good and their special clam chowder with green chilis was tasty. Stick to ordering sandwiches here - or maybe the fish and chips which looked good, although we did not order them. read more

Don't bother going to the Harbor Hut or the Great American Fish Co., those places continuously disappoint with food I wouldn't feed my dog; they live off of their "established" reputations and I have a feeling since Morro Bay is getting more popular that they won't be there long unless they change their culture. This place is a hidden Gem!. My wife and I came here a few years ago. Since then we have brought friends and family every time we are in this area. Awesome clam chowder, halibut, fish and chips, chicken picatta etc. We are here for a week and have gone twice so far. Last night the blackened sword fish was awesome. We are foodies and will pony up for the price of any good resteraunt and this place is as good as any you stack up against it without the high price. It's very dependable and great service. I just came from this restaurant. We had some great food. I had the fish tacos. They were great. The salsa was to hot for me. I wish there was a chipotle sauce. I didn't ask for any but they may offer it. Their clamchowder was fantastic. I got it with a little of their green chili soup splashed in it. It was so good. The atmosphere was loud and crowded but well worth it for the food. There was a little wait but gosh if there wasn't a wait you would wounder how good the food is before you even sit down. This place is a must try the next time you are in Morro Bay. Watching the sunset from the restaurant was well worth going for dinner. read more

We have been going to this local favorite for nearly 20 years. While it has had its ups and downs the food has always ranged from good to fantastic. I wish I could say the same for the service. Somehow the service has failed to mature with the rest of the place. Our last visit there we had what could only be described as some of the worst service I have ever had in a restaurant. Short of wearing secret decoder rings that would have rendered us invisible I can't imagine a slower less attentive waiter. We sat for 20 minutes waiting to give our orders and more than 45 minutes to get our food. The waiter failed to stop by even once during the initial 20 minutes to let us know he was running behind even though he made it to the big table next to us at least 5 times. If you have the time and patience the food can be wonderful. The desserts are fantastic as well. Be aware that it usually is a wait to get in on the weekends and getting out in less than an hour can be nearly impossible if you have a subsequent engagement. read more

Awesome spot for a restaurant first off. The view is perfect and on a sunny day you can see for miles. Now to the food. I ordered the salmon burrito no cheese and black beans. All the ingredients are good, and taste fresh and home cooked, but they seem to lack the killer flavor of other places in the area. Absolutely nothing wrong though, just a little bland. Maybe I'll get guacamole on it next time. The dessert were pretty impressive. The tres leche cake was good, with a nice hint of orange in the cream cheese frosting. The carrot cake was warm, huge, and good . I enjoyed these desserts and want to come back to try the others on the list, though the area does have places with better desserts elsewhere in town. The waitress was nice and very down to earth which was cool. The prices though are a little high here. For a $13 burrito I would want a lot more included and a little more kick in the flavor department. Overall not bad by any means, but I would probably stop by here for mainly the desserts again. read more
