Called to order takeout and had to deal with the rudest man who got super offended when I asked about a possible substitution for one of the sides for my meal and told me they're not some fast food place where I can ask for substitutions. There was no need for that rude of a response. I told him I had no problem paying for the side of vegetables I wanted and I guess he realized he was being a jerk since he ended up not charging me for it. When I got home with my takeout it unfortunately was the driest hardest piece of chicken I ever had! I also got the spinach pie appetizer for $12 which was three little pieces of bread with a little spinach inside burnt to a crisp. Food was excellent. May I recommend the dipping platter with five different preparations including babaganoush, hummus, whipped yoghurt, a chickpea and a red pepper dip (my favorite). We had a cheese specially wrapped in a spring roll and fried (omg delish) with the dip plate. Happen to be in the Shrewsbury area so decided to visit Bayroot for lunch after reading the many reviews. Overall experience for a party of 6 was ok but some points to note. Tried their lunch specials ($14.99) as sounded quite appealing (comes with some rice, salad and choice of hummus or baba ganoush) but thought they were relatively small. Ordered lamb kafta kabab which turned out to be one lamb kafta kabab (and not a very large one at that) cut in half, falafel (3 pieces) but have to say the salmon looked like a decent portion. For appetizers, the grape leaf appetizer was 4 pieces, but disappointing in size as each roughly 2-3 inches in length for the price. However, the fried potatoes had good flavor and were crispy. Final check for ~$154 included a $6 credit card fee (excessive) and a 20% tip automatically added. Overall, ok experience but value for the price could have been better. read more

My wife and I paid Bayroot one of the highest compliments you can pay a restaurant, we ate there two nights in a row! We were enjoying a weekend away nearby in Sea Bright and I had seen Bayroot on Yelp. We had it on Friday and it was fantastic. We considered some of the overpriced beachfront restaurants for the next night but after hearing the 90 minute wait and no reservations, we thought "why not go back to Bayroot, they had tons of dishes we wanted to try". The owner is very friendly, knowledgeable, and proud of his food. Everything we ate there was some of the very best Arabic food we've had. We tried to sample as much as possible. The mint lemonade and cardamom tea were nice. The foul, moussaka, and dandelion greens made for a great appetizer round. The mixed grill for 1 was plenty to share for 2 after the appetizer round. The kunefe was awesome, sweet and tender with melted cheese! Night 2 was another set of hits. The dip sampler was great, hummus, baba ganoush, muhammara, lebneh, and moussaka all at the top level. The sujuk was a tremendously flavorful sausage with pomegranate sauce. My wife loved her lamb chops. Even the brown rice was flavorful. We also noticed the attention to detail, the mixed vegetables were a highlight as opposed to being a flavorless mush. That's a sign of a quality chef. I had a zaatar and cheese bread that was also quite good. Great hospitality and food took our weekend getaway to the next level. We ordered two Bayroot salads, a Shish taouk platter (double veggies - no rice or fries) & a Grilled lamb chop Platter (double veggies - no rice or fries). It was all absolutely delicious. The salad is so simple but the dressing & fresh herbs really make it special. Both the chicken & the lamb were grilled perfectly. We will definitely order both again. It was their slow time, between lunch and dinner. We were the only ones in there and ordered 3 appetizers to split. Each one was served hot, but very very dry, and though there were plenty of herbs used, they were all one note herbs. We couldn't finish any of the starters (which included a flat bread pizza type with loads of dry crushed seasoning that took all the moisture out of my mouth). Good parking. Cute decor. Very warm service. Perhaps the entrees are better, but the starters were absolutely nit worth it. read more

We came to this place after looking for a middle eastern restaurant in the jersey shore area. My friend chose this place for its good reviews. I would say the food here is more of a 3.5, but rounding up because we had such great, attentive service. I asked for extra pickles, (I was hoping for *pickled turnips) but did not receive any extra pickles- but that just makes me want to head over on my day off, and shop at the cute onsite store! I have to say we are pleasantly surprised and very full!! the portions do not seem big, but they are deceivingly hearty. *Pickled turnips are amazing, so easy to make and I always make them at home. One of the best places in the area for Lebanese food. I've ordered from here a few times now. The food is always fresh and ready on time. The owner is very friendly and appreciative of your business. I've had the Mixed grill - Kafta, Shish Taouk, Shish Kebab, Chicken Kafta, And Shawarma with veggies and rice. You can absolutely get two meals out of this even though I demolished it in one. I've also had the shawarma beef lunch special with hummus which is a good bang for your buck. The steak was so tender and juicy and the sandwich served with fresh french fries was big enough to share. The Greek salad was also amazing! It's one thing to find a restaurant with good food but when the owner is sweet and welcoming, it makes the experience so much better. For this reason, It's worth the 45 min drive from my house. I love the mint lemonade so much I always take some to go (and yes, I spike it when I get home ). For the vegetarians, this place fries the falafel separately from the meat. So for the junk food junkies like me, this place has a french fries sandwich !!! yes!!! french fries, smothered in homemade garlic sauce and wrapped up for a perfect bite. My go-to order in the Red Bank area, get it all the time, the best Lebanese I've had in NJ since we moved back. We don't eat much meat and their fool, labneh, hummus, and flatbreads with zaatar/cheese are top notch. Never get bored of it despite ordering once every week or two on average. What also inspired me to leave another review is they had some issues on the weekend and were unable to get to and deliver my order before closing. They called, apologized, and to make it up to me offered to give me two of the same orders (which wasn't a small one) to compensate. My parents love Lebanese food, so I found this place after a quick search on Yelp. We shared the mezza and grill platters, and both were outstanding. They use fresh, high quality ingredients. The food is pretty simple but very authentic. The mezza platter was the perfect appetizer. It's served with warm pita. My favorite dip was their version of mousakka. It had some very tasty Middle Eastern spices in it that I couldn't identify and meant to ask about. The grill platter is the way to go, as you're able to sample all their delicious meats. So my wife and I are foodies and she sends me a reel of this place during one of the famous foodies reviews. I decide, why not let's try this place. We take the 1 1/2 hour drive. I'm excited to go and surprise my wife as she did not know where we were headed for lunch. We get there about 2:40pm and didn't know they close at 3pm. Well here is the interaction after standing in the restaurant for about 5 minutes. My wife: (she address the guy that comes out of the back) Hi, can we sit anywhere? Me: Hi, we are looking forward to your food. We just drove an hour and half after seeing an instagram review. Guy (maybe the owner) You can sit down but I have a strict rule, I close at 3 pm so you'll have to leave at 3pm. Even if you are eating. Me: (look at this guy dead in the eyes) Wow, really even if we drove an hour and half to eat here. Guy: I don't bend my rule Me: Well, thanks but no thanks. We will never be back. Bayroot is just about the best Lebanese food you can get. I went last night for the first time. The restaurant is clean, like spotless. I appreciate that compared to many restaurants that are dirty and cluttered. It looks excellent. Our food was amazing. The lentil soup was flavored with turmeric, maybe cumin. It was delicious. Our chicken kabobs were marinated amazingly with dense garlic and cooked perfectly juicy. The vegetables were also to die for. The owner came by and chatted with us which I really also appreciated. OMG! This place is amazing. From the moment you walk in, you feel like you are family. The owner is so sweet and really embodies hospitality. We ordered the Mezza plate, which came with Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, Labne, Mouhammara (a red pepper walnut paste), and Mousakka. We also ordered a side of falafel with tahini, and the dandelion greens. It came with a nice side of fresh pita bread. Everything was a balance of soft, hard, sweet, savory....Everything was vegan except for the Labne, which can be substituted. We did not order any meat, but there is a wide assortment. We did taste the garlic sauce, which is a typical accompaniment to grilled chicken, and dipped our falafel in it. This is possibly the best Middle Eastern food of any kind I've had, and I've travelled extensively. My favorite was the dandelion. It came with fried onions, and was cooked until soft and was just yummy. But all of it was good. We also tasted the dessert, baklava fingers and pistachios. I don't eat sugar but I just had to taste and both were delicious, not overly sweet at all. Just right. All of this was plenty for two people. My friend went ahead and pre-ordered platters for a party he is hosting in the City this weekend. So, whether you order take out of dine-in, I highly recommend BayRoot. read more

We wanted to get out before the upcoming winter storm so we went to Bayroot just for mezza and left completely stuffed. We got the cold apps sampler as well as falafel, spinach and meat pies and cheese Rakakta. We also got a Arabic style grilled cheese and French fries for our son. The Cheese Rakata was excellent, great crunch and the mint was a good addition. Everything was very fresh and flavorful even the French fries were very good. Most kids menu fries stink. All food was served quickly by a man who I think was the owner. Very friendly service. We were the only customers sitting down in the restaurant for a early evening dinner. There was a table for contactless takeout pickup and at least one person came in to buy some dry goods from small market selection near the front. Obviously with #covid most people are choosing takeaway these days. We will definitely be back and I'll update my review as I try more of the menu read more

This place has great reviews for a reason! Everything from the lemonade to the service and everything in between was great. I just had water, but my sister tried the lemonade which was fresh squeezed and made in house. It was so good I ordered my own. My dad and I split the sampler platter that came with a little bit of each meat option on the menu. All of them were great but our favorite was the chicken shawarma. The garlic sauce that came with it will knock your socks off! It was unbelievably strong, but delicious. My sister had the falafel and she said that was great too. read more

We went here on 4/13 for a team lunch. I hadn't been to Bayroot for over a year, and I was quite looking forward to coming here again. We were a group of 16 and had made a reservation at 1. A couple of tables were put together for us and we were seated promptly. We started off with a couple of appetizers for the table - Mix Bayroot Mezza (one of my favorites), the Falafel Platter (falafels were really crispy),Makanek Sausage (wasn't a huge fan of this, a little too sour), Warak Areesh, Spinach Pie, Foul Bayroot Style and Batata Harra (didn't get to try these). A couple of guys got the lemonade and were happy with it. I ordered the Grilled Salmon Platter and loved every bit of it. The salmon was grilled to perfection - soft, succulent with a very slight char on the outside. The grilled veggies and rice and vermicelli were perfect accompaniments. Some of my teammates ordered the Shawarma Chicken Sandwich, the Falafel Sandwich, the Shish Taouk Platter, Grilled Lamb Chops platter along with Lentil Soup and Rice and Lentils. Very generous portions here. Needless to say, we were too full for dessert. I haven't been here in a long time primarily because I was trying to cut down on rice and meat (and they're both so yum here), but maybe I'll start coming here more often. 5 stars for the great food and exceptional service. Baroot is a family run restaurant that serves authentic and fresh Lebanese home made cuisine. The owner is warm and welcoming. We had the Cheese Rkakat as an appetizer which was very good! For entrees we had the lamb and chicken kebab platters. The lamb and chicken kebabs were tender and had an amazing Lebanese flavor! Both were DELICIOUS with the lamb kebab being my favorite! They came with rice and well seasoned vegetables. For dessert I had wanted to order rice pudding, but they were out of it. I ended up getting the baklava which was so good! I've been coming here for several years but since Covid pandemic, prices on the menu (online), kept going up n the last time I went, prices went up again, unknown to me, as it was already updated but didn't see the most recent. Normally it would cost me 70 some dollars n this time I added a couple more. To my shock it came out to be over $190. I asked owner why so much, he said everything went up. Again?! Their food is excellent but very skimpy on everything and overcharging. I'm not going back until they lower their prices. My friend and I are Indian, while we were waiting for our food, he first asked where we were from, then had the audacity to say "you're too pretty to be Indian" as if he was surprised. He had numerous chances to walk away and diffuse the situation, but wanted to make his ridiculous point clear.
