    Hot Bukhara Pizza

We come here almost every two weeks and it never gets old. For some high quality meats and grilling at a shockingly fair price, Old Bukhara is the traditional, authentic family dining experience that feels novel in this day and age. The Combination Kabob platter (chicken and beef recommended) is a must order. You'll seldom have such succulent cuts of meat that hit the perfect amount of char flavor. You can't not get their fries, which must soak up all that delicious meat flavor The Sofi Plav is a classic that has to be tried at least once. The cute quail eggs lie atop a mountain of sweet and fragrant rice. For your first time there, I also recommend a selection of cold cuts. Unlike anything you can get elsewhere in Jersey. Follow these cold items up with any of their amazing soups! Frickadelli is as freaking awesome as its name implies. Now why is their pizza so damn good? Honestly, a restaurant that's not billed as a pizza place has no business showing up all the actual pizza places in the area (maybe even the state?) but there you have it. The flavors are less adventurous American staples to the toppings that will take you straight to Uzbekistan! The Hot Bukhara is our favorite but be warned, it is ACTUALLY spicy. While you enjoy your meal, you'll be treated to the grand hospitality of the servers and enjoy the beautiful decor on the walls of Uzbekistan. This is a true culinary experience, in every sense, and well worth your patronage. I know I'll keep coming at least once a month for as long as I'm here!

This is, for example, how they survey their pickled herring. So adorable and unique.

This is one of the best Uzbeki foods I have had. A restaurant cooked that. My family and I go there quite often, and we always receive excellent service and such delicious food.

Not only was the color / presentation top notch, but the taste nicely complimented the meat. In addition to our wraps, we opted for the falafel bites. There are 4 generous pieces with a nice portion of hummus in the middle. The spicy sauce has quite the kick! We enjoyed an authentic Turkish lime iced tea drink. Loved selecting from the imported drinks- gives it a foreign and fun feel. My favorite was the ambiance and Turkish music. The booths are set in chic cages and it feels like you have more privacy. The servers also bring the meal to your table- added plus for a mall food establishment. My only critique is the price. It is reasonable, but I expected a larger portion for the price charged. If it was a buck or two cheaper, I think the size of the wrap would match the cost. Because of this, I'd rank it a 4.5 / 5 stars. Overall, wonderful spot. Highly recommend!

The place was nearly empty, which is…read moreeither a warning sign or a blessing, depending on your outlook and your tolerance for gastrointestinal risk. I ordered from a kiosk. It was quick, efficient, and mercifully free of small talk. A machine that doesn't pretend to care about your day is, in many ways, the most honest companion while still lacking the dismissiveness of the Gen Z stare. My sandwich arrived at the table shortly after, delivered by a human who didn't linger. We understood each other. I had the Pink Sultan. Chicken, mixed greens, red cabbage, pickles, and a sauce the color of a polite sunset. I read that the sauce involves beets, which explains both the color palette and the faint suggestion that I was eating something that once grew in dirt and had ambitions. The sandwich was good. Not life changing, not tragic. The chicken was tender enough, the vegetables crisp, the flavors balanced in a way that suggested someone had made decisions and stuck with them. I drank a bottle of Turkish Uludag soda, which tasted like citrus with a hint of optimism. It whispered, "I'm like Fanta, but regional AND foreign, which of course makes me better." The place itself is clean and modern, with that fast casual confidence that says we take our ingredients seriously but not ourselves. They make a point of using fresh components and well seasoned meats that rotate slowly on a spit, absorbing flavor as time passes, much like the rest of us. Everything I ate was pretty good. That is not faint praise. In a world where many meals are often either regrettable or unforgettable, pretty good is a kind of victory. Four stars. The kiosk asked nothing of me, and the food delivered something in return.

I also threw in an onion salad because you sometimes do need a little something to cut through all that rice. However, my friends, once I placed my order, that is where the good times stopped rolling. I showed up at 8:15 for my 8:20 ETA pickup and was immediately told that was wrong and that they needed another 30 minutes. All in all, it took me 50 minutes to pickup the food from order to when I left the restaurant for a place that is a mile away from my house. Once I came home, now with sky-hunger expectations due to the wait, I was really disappointed. The Shrimp Biryani had a handful of shrimp on top and basically was otherwise a tub of rice. Though the shrimp had flavor, each piece was in varying states of prep with some being cleaned while others had shell or tail or both. I know Biryani is a rice dish but I would of loved to have some other bits and bobs in the Biryani to break up paying basically $20 for some fluffed spiced rice. The onion salad? Let's just say truth in advertising doesn't live here. The menu photo suggested something bright and layered. What I got was $3 worth of plain sliced onions and a lemon wedge. Call it what it is--or better yet, don't bother. Looks like the next time I flying solo, I will be finding some other haunt for some Indian food in Monmouth County.

I've long let go of the ancient proverb about not judging a book by it's over... in this case by the strip shopping center it's located in. Diana, our director of first impressions and food guide for this dining experience was engaging, smiling and truly excited to converse with us about our Eastern European food experiences throughout the Bulstleton Ave-Philly region. We took a walk through discussion across the menu to understand preparations and which dishes were most recommended to keep ups wanting to come back. So many to select from. We did try a few plates to get the full experience. Opened with a bowl of Mastava soup - ground beef, rice, peppers, carrots and onions, delicous. Wish there were closer to home to pick up on cold days... that good. Next we had a plate of 4 manti's - dumplings with beef, lamb and onions (think of wonton dumpling with meat inside, no soup broth- that would be a soup dumpling). Next, we shared a bowl of plov - slow cooked rice, beef, lamb, carrot and onions. This dish I could have weekly it was that DELICIOUS! We did try one beef kabab, so tender and juicy. I also love Bronzino and could not pass it up. Whole bronzino grilled and in place of french fries the chef did me a solid... stewed tomates and grilled peppers to acompany the fish. If only I could do this at home on my grill... will try. Was delicious. We found a new restaurant to add into our rotation. See our food photos attached and follow me on Yelp for more tasty adventures. What a gem. Thank you Diana. BTW... no alchol (no BYOB) allowed. Parking lot. They do accept credit cards but with a small add on processing fee.

All of the meat was well seasoned and flavorful. Most pieces were juicy. I wouldn't have categorized any bites as dry, but some bites were juicier than others. The entrees were platted over basmati rice with carrots and raisins. They came with a white sauce, a green sauce, and a red sauce. Green and red sauce were mildly spicy. "Are those flies or raisins?", is something I kept asking myself while eating here…read more.. The whole experience eating at this restaurant was just, odd. On yelp, there were no inside pictures, so I wasn't entirely prepared. I see lots of take out, and indeed it looks like there is plenty of it as there is a take out counter and a few people were walking in/out during our meal. The entire rest of the place looked like a small wedding and party venue. I wouldn't call it sparkling clean, however. Many things were crossed out on the menu with a sharpie "X". Quail, Chicken Biryani, just to name a few. No matter, we were quite happy with two different kebabs and the distinct afgani rice. The food was overall good, I found the lamb a little sweet, but it wasn't fatty. The chicken was certainly the better meat. The fresh sauces provided on the side were tasty and helpful after the generous portion of rice started getting repetitive. I also enjoyed the full pot of black tea with cardamom. One person working alone filling orders and waiting our table meant it was one of the longest meals I've hard in a while. He was kind, and was indeed working hard.... but that didn't make up for the flies. Dear lord, the flies. The bug zapper was a constant interruption in the background of our conversation. Dead flies were scattered on the windowsill and a half alive fly squirmed by my foot. While eating, I examined every raisin as carefully as a gemologist inspects a diamond.. because you never know. My overall rating would have probably been higher if I didn't eat in. Your mileage may vary.
