Mediocre at best. Nice service but food does not stand up to their price point. Nothing special.

This is my second visit to Bay Harbor, with my first being wayyyy back in 2000, so it took 19 years to get back, but based on my first impression from 19 years ago, I felt it was worthy of coming back. Unfortunately, somewhere along those 19 years, things have changed. I'm going to give an honest review here. At the end of the day, I feel management did everything in their power to right a wrong and I'm grateful for that, but that doesn't give me my time back and the option to go elsewhere with my family and enjoy a great dinner, service, along with a killer view. Let me back up and lay it out here. We made reservations because we're from New York. In New York, if you don't have reservations to a nice restaurant, chances are you're not getting in or you'll be waiting quite a while. However, here in Ohio, making reservations appears to be a joke, because everywhere we went, we were the only reservation, and every place was no where near capacity. Our reservation at Bay Harbor was for 745pm for our family of four, and that is when we arrived. We were given a GREAT table, right by the window, overlooking the marina, which also had a fantastic view of part of Cedar Point, and the amazing sunset that was occurring at that moment as well. Wow, what a great start to an evening, right?? Wrong...but let me not get ahead of myself. I'm not going to call out our server by name, as that would be improper, but she did come over fairly quickly and was attentive at first. We managed to get our drink orders in, as well as a few appetizer orders in with the server. About 15 minutes later, our drinks show up. Our server said she would be right back too.........her voice trailed off. 10 minutes later, our appetizers come out........it's now coming up on an hour since we stepped into the restaurant, and we still have our menus and have not put in our dinner order yet. Finally, the server comes over to do just that. Our kids meals come with a salad...bank that information for now. So now I'm starting to look at my watch and wonder what the heck is going on. I'm noticing that other guests around me that have other servers are being attended to quite regularly. A table to our left came in after us and already had their food...and were almost done. Finally our food comes out, delivered by our server, and it all looks good.....and then boom, she disappears. I realize we don't have the salads that come with the kids order. I choose to let it go, but still, would have been nice to get what I ordered. So now I'm starting to get grumpier and grumpier, because the guests around us are having a jolly ole' time with their servers, getting regular attention, and we don't get checked on ONCE by our server. She's a ghost. Surprisingly, even in my bad mood, I started eating my dinner, the stuffed halibut, and it was actually very, very good. Everyone in my family of four enjoyed their food. So my beef with the restaurant has nothing to do with the food, although it was hard to enjoy given the mood we were all placed in. So we finish our food and are just sort of sitting here looking around. I'm listening to the waitstaff attend their guests, asking about dessert, coffee, etc. I'm thinking to myself, wow, it'd be great to have that option. After another 10 minutes of zero activity and just sitting there, my wife announces she's going to leave, as my son was not feeling well and had to use the bathroom. (she was going back to our hotel, the Breakers, which is a 15 min walk) So I stayed behind with my daughter hoping to resolve our situation shortly. I waited patiently for another 10 minutes. I finally got up and asked another server if she could help me find my server and get me checked out. I told her I'd be waiting by the hostess stand as I didn't want to sit at my table anymore. That server got the manager for me. I explained to the manager what had happened. She told me that our server had an issue with the bill with another party and was attempting to resolve it. Well, as a result of that happening, my party suffered, greatly. The manager had said that our server never bothered to ask for help and let others know that she had us to attend to. This was her mistake and she would be spoken to about it. To make up for this dinner tragedy, the manager split our bill by 50%, which I thought was fair, and I still left a 15% tip, because I didn't want the ancillary staff to get hosed, as they were all doing a great job. So to sum up, this is my honest review of my experience. I feel like we played server lottery, and lost, because other folks in the restaurant were having a grand ole time. The food was good, its just that the service was not. I hate to even post a review like this because it's probably an exception, but still, the impression it left was not good, and we regretted wasting a beautiful night out at this restaurant. My husband and I came last weekend to celebrate our anniversary. This has been a favorite restaurant for us for many years. Unfortunately, Bay Harbor has changed. We waited for 15 minutes just to put a drink order in (they gave us free dessert because of this). Seems the hostess forgot to assign us a waitress. Salad was not good, rice was chewy. My wife and I went with another couple to Bay Harbor last night. Even though we didn't have a reservation, we were immediately welcomed and escorted to a table by the window, overlooking the marina, with a beautiful view of the sunset. Our server Lori arrived at the table shortly thereafter. She welcomed us and pointed out the drink and wine menus, told us about the nightly special and answered questions about the menu. After bringing our beverages, Lori took our order. I had Lobster Bisque as an appetizer. It was creamy with a lot of lobster - some of the best I've ever had. I had a large lobster tail for dinner. It was cooked to perfection. It came with sides of grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes. My wife had Onion Soup as an appetizer and Blackened Grouper over rice for her meal. She commented that both were excellent. Our friends both had the grouper and were equally complimentary. One had brussel sprouts and the other onion soup. The pace of the meal was perfect. Prices were in line with and even a little better than most fine dining establishments. Definitely an outstanding dining experience. read more

I guess you can't really expect a lot from an amusement park restaurant but we thought it would be the best option since all the other food is bad for you. The restaurant was at the marina and just behind the park and had a nice setting, the service was amazing but the food was below average. I had the blackened grouper with crispy green beans... Crispy meant fried with batter, not fresh... I guess I should've thought about it more realizing we were in middle America. Hubby had the roasted chicken. My family and I decided that Bay Harbor was too expensive and headed to Famous Dave's on Saturday night. Well, Famous Dave's was so crowded I didn't even bother going in to ask how long the wait was. We headed over to Bay Harbor where we immediately got a table. Since we weren't planning on going here, we were underdressed but were not treated like the peasants we were. I felt slightly more comfortable when I heard the family behind us talking about Cedar Point rides (we were headed to the park after dinner). My dirty martini was very good. I sampled everyone's meal and it was delicious (and a welcome sight since we'd been eating crap around the park). The highlights were the prime rib and seafood scampi. It was dark out by the time we were there but during daylight the view of the bay would be beautiful. Our meal was expensive (maybe sightly overpriced) but it made us happy. read more

The Bay Harbor I remember from my teen years would've been 5 stars. I think my palate has just become more refined. While Bay Harbor wasn't bad, it was pretty middle of the road and not the BEST MEAL EVER experience that I remember. Please keep in mind that this is the first prime rib I had ever eaten, at about the age of 19. My sister and I came for dinner during last week's trip to CP to keep with "tradition" and memory. There were not many people in the restaurant, but it was also a Tuesday at 6:30 at the end of the season (August.) We were seated immediately, and our server kept the iced tea and arnold palmer's flowing (we weren't drinking because we were probably both dehydrated after walking around all day.) We started by splitting a mini-crab cake appetizer that was on special. From there, we each had a salad. Lastly, we both ordered prime rib, medium rare. The crab cakes were probably the highlight of the meal. Very little filler, delicious bearnaise sauce on top. The bleu cheese dressing with the salad was on point. My sister had a spinach salad instead of a regular house salad, and I was envious. The prime rib was cooked to perfect temperature, but we both found it to be slightly tough and chewy. I didn't know that was possible with prime rib. It was also a little bland. The price was right compared to what we would pay at home for the same meal, but I think Bay Harbor might've worked its way out of my memory as someplace that *must* be visited when at CP. If you find yourself in Cedar Point, Ohio, consider Bay Harbor when you need a break from amusement park madness. While Bay Harbor may not earn four stars if you moved it to New York City, I'm awarding it four stars because what other restaurant in Cedar Point is better?? I went to Bay Harbor while visiting Cedar Point with a group of friends celebrating a roller coaster fan's 30th birthday. I must admit, I am not a fan of amusement parks, and I am even less of a fan of small children. Bay Harbor served as a nice retreat into the grown-up world of cloth napkins, good food, wine, and martinis. The views of the bay (and harbor) are remarkable. The restaurant is open year-round and seems to be frequented by boat/yacht owners of Lake Erie. Because of the year round operation, the staff is hired and trained separately from all the other Cedar Point operations. While most of Cedar Point is populated by first-time servers on break from college, Bay Harbor is home to friendly, knowledgeable wait staff that are practiced in the fine art of customer service. The menu is a bit pricey for the area, but after corn-dogs and slushies, you feel like you are getting your money's worth. The food was good...no complaints from our rather picky party of 5. I don't recall the specifics of the wine list, but it was decent enough to find a good bottle for celebrating a birthday. My friend and I returned to the bar the following night for martinis while the men were roller-coastering and the bartender was good. The martinis were delicious and made the merry-go-round much more amusing later that night. Overall, I was pleased with my Bay Harbor experience. And that's saying a lot from girl who didn't really want to be in Ohio in the first place. read more

This restaurant is located inside Cedar Point. You will be reimbursed for parking but you do have to pay to get inside the park. They start the meal with Multigrain and regular bread. Kalamata butter and regular butter. I ordered and really enjoyed the Crab cake appetizer and Blackened Halibut over lobster risotto entree. I sat out on the deck and enjoyed the weather and the view. They had my favorite coffee Dewue Egberts and a good dessert menu. The prices are fair for the quality but are on the pricey side. The service was excellent. read more

I would not personally recommend this restaurant. First you have to drive in and park at cedar point which is a hassle however the restaurant does reimburse you the $20 for parking. I got the chicken dish and it was extremely dry and it was one chicken breast that cost $28. Two of the kids got chicken fingers and they both came out not fully cooked and raw in the middle. That could have been bad news if we hadn't cut the chicken in pieces first. Tonight we went to Texas Roadhouse which was half the price and so much better. read more

We ate here twice during our trip to Cedar Point two years ago. It was a great way to start AND end our vacation at such a nice and delicious restaurant. It was great to see the lake and the coasters outside of our window. You should've seen our faces when we ate here for the first time, and have not been to the park yet! We were like little kids on Christmas Eve. We both enjoyed our dinner. It's good to relax and have an expensive dinner during a vacation. I will agree with Danni on the previous review, because I was with her and six other family members for a table of eight. The ambiance was nice. Views of Lake Erie were stunning. Great location. Wait staff was really genuine. But again, the food preparation in relation to the cost was not as I expected which is why I am giving this three stars. 1st time in a while Yelp let us down. This is not a 4-5 star place. Honestly, MAYBE a mild upgrade from TGI Fridays. Certainly a nice location. And dining outside at night near the firepit was very pleasant. But the food was really just not good. French onion soup standard, fish tacos poorly executed (not enough fish and grated white cheddar cheese ?!). Crab salad with avocado and mango best dish. Pasta dishes a mess. Shrimp and scallops drenched beyond recognition in an Alfredo basil sauce, as was Chicken linguini. Also, massive portions...couldn't even come close to finishing. And on that point...also had issue with the server. When we asked for recommendations, we got the upsell ie Lobster, king crab legs. Me, my husband Rick, my brother Paul and his wife Jo, and my Cousin Cindy and her husband Bob made our annual trek up to Cedar Point this weekend. We decided we wanted one evening of ritzy dining and Bay Harbor was it. Thing about Bay Harbor is you don't have to be a patron of the park in order to eat here. Just be sure you use the right entrance. Much has been said about the prices at Bay Harbor. Hey, this ain't the hamburger stand and they're pretty much what you'd pay at any comparable restaurant. The pasta primevera looked mighty tempting, but Bay Harbor is known for its good seafood. My cajun walleye was just perfect. We also decided to splurge a little bit and get crabcakes for appetizers. This was a perfect way to end a day of coaster riding. Oh, and Bay Harbor is also well known for spectacular views across the bay! read more

We came right from the park and felt welcomed in this more upscale atmosphere. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating but the lobster fettichini was bland and we had to add Alfredo sauce to make it more eatable. The scallops in the risotto were under seasoned and we had to add salt. The lobster bisque was very creamy and had plenty of lobster pieces but the French onion had 3 bay leaves witch was careless on the chefs part. My miso salmon was a bit salty but the salmon was cooked well and was very moist. The patio area was well planned out and had beautiful sunset views. Very enjoyable and friendly restaurant, yet to b determined if we will return. Just a bit pricy for those minor mistakes. read more

This was our first time at Bay Harbor. We had a great dining experience except for a few issues. The prices of the menu are high for what you're getting, I suppose that's Cedar Points influence on them. Our server was fine, it was a bit odd when she first came up to the table & said "hi did you know what you wanted to drink?" No introduction. No welcome statement. It was a bit odd considering the price you're going to pay for the meal, you would expect a certain level of service to follow. But she did make up for it throughout the evening. The crab cake and calamari appetizers were phenomenal! However when the entrees came out the short ribs came cold! The manager came around and apologized and took it off our bill, which was very kind and considerate. When you're sitting down, the view is amazing. Overall it was a decent experience, we just expected a little better because after all you are at Cedar Point. read more

Bay Harbor seems to be hit or miss. The last time we ate there the appetizers were amazing but our entrees were lacking. We had the spicy shrimp appetizer, which I have always found to be excellent, and the salad with fruit in it. The lobster pasta was not worth the price. The sauce was flavorless, there was not very much lobster and pasta was for certain not fresh. After a few appetizers, entrees for two and a couple cocktails we walked away one hundred dollars poorer and disappointed. I think that Bay Harbor has a great location but it always drives me crazy when I am in my dressy casual clothes trying to have a nice meal and a huge group from Cedar Point shows up in jean shorts, tank tops, flip flops and all stinky/sweaty from being in the amusement park all day. They need to have a dress code posted by the door. Would return for appetizers and drinks. Would probably try dinner here again sometime but have other places to try before coming back. read more

I found a Groupon for this place and was a little nervous to purchase it. I googled a million reviews just to make sure. Finally I decided to just buy it and see. I'm glad I did. Pros: Appetizer: the lobster bisque. This was by far the all star of the evening. It had HUGE chunks of lobster, unlike many other restaurants who use little tiny shreds. Dinner: I got the scallop and shrimp pasta and was not disappointed. The flavor was good and there was a lot! Cocktails: I got the French martini and it was really good. I would have gotten another if I wasn't driving . Cons: Decor: Very outdated (but clean) Dessert: we got a chocolate cake that was served really cold with ice cream. Not impressed. We didn't finish it. Staff: overall they were ok, nothin great but not terrible. Biggest problem was we wanted a view of bay so we sat by the window, no other tables around us. After our drinks come, another table sits behind us, they want the blinds down, so the host comes and closes them without even asking us! So we ask to be moved and again are seated by a window with the blinds up. We get our appetizer and another table sits down by us. Guess what they want?! Yep, blinds down. So again without asking us, the blinds are drawn Now I'm getting angry. So I tell our server to please open the blinds, we have already moved once, etc. she happily obliged. Then the server of the table who wanted them closed makes a snarky comment right behind me. She is really lucky I am an adult and didn't want to go to jail that night. Best seafood I've ever had, by far. I had the blackened salmon, and I must say, I've never had more tender fish in my life. The shrimp was full of flavor, the scallops were perfectly tender, and the sausage was delicious. The salmon, shrimp, scallops, and sausage were in a cajun cream sauce, which I don't have words for - it was beyond fantastic. He had the blackened grouper oscar, which was also cooked to perfection and as tender as it gets. Our waitress Lori was amazing, she was great with recommendations and she even told us that the restaurant refunded Cedar Point parking, which we had no idea about. One of the best fine dining restaurants you can find in Sandusky. Bay Harbor provides you many varieties of food and also great service. Since it was my first time, I did not know what to order but Ed made it all easy for me. He has excellent guest service skills and was very knowledgeable on the menu. First Experience: Made a reservation on Open Table, showed up and found the restaurant closed. Second experience: Incredibly rude bartender/GM that chastised my (well over 21 year old) son from taking a sip of my wine. Our calamari appetizer came out cold. The patio area was swarmed with bugs making it miserable to be at the outdoor seating. No modifications available for food (ex. not putting bacon on Brussel sprouts, not beer-battering fish), meaning that all food is pre-prepped before the evening starts. Perhaps if they had a larger menu (or simply a special or two) then this wouldn't have been an issue but it was difficult to find something to eat. To top it off, the prices on the menu were not the same as the prices on the receipt. Verdict: Bad food, even worse service. You are better off eating in the park. read more

My first visit was in 2016, and being a French Onion Soup connoisseur, I just had to get it. Wow. By far the BEST I'd ever had back then. The broth is strong, the cheese is flavorful and thick, and it takes forever to finish it! I've been to so many restaurants with supposedly "great" French onion soups, but none come close. After 2 years of waiting, I visited cedar point the last 3 days, and I went to Bay Harbor last night. Once again, it was the best French Onion Soup I've ever had. Just amazing. Our waitress was friendly, kind, fun, and constantly asked us about our visit, favorite coasters, the weather, etc. I had the Lobster Risotto, and it was delicious. I recently tried Bay Harbor to celebrate a birthday and everything was perfect! The drink selection is top notch and appetizers were delicious! We tried the Walleye Bites and Margherita Flatbread. Both of which were better than expected. I also recommend trying the cheesecake. They have three different varieties but we went with the original, which was delicious! The atmosphere was nothing from what I expected a Cedar Point restaurant to be. You can fully unwind on the patio after a busy day at the park. The fireplace and seating were very comfortable, which added a nice change of pace for the day. I highly recommend sitting on the patio, taking in the sights of the marina and enjoying the ambiance of the evening. I will be dining here again the next time I find myself at Cedar Point! read more

Atmosphere better than food; prices too high for the quality provided. Salad greens were not chopped today, and namesake salad has 3 non-jumbo shrimp with withered strawberries. Local seafood is Lake Erie perch was fresh and well breaded with crunch but lacked flavor. Any restaurant with Kraft mac and cheese loses points in our book. Need home made mac for our kiddos! Spicy Thai Shrimp was neither spicy nor Thai. It was reminiscent of a thousand island dressing with a shot of Sriracha, smothering well crisped shrimp. We had an open table reservation, but apparently the restaurant was understaffed and there were a lot of angry people waiting around fighting for seats. It was a hostile environment , and we had to force ourselves at a table basically with a waitress who was nice enough to take us .... Growing up, you knew the "going out to eat" occasion was SERIOUS when your dad would put on cologne and your mom would daub some perfume and they'd head on out to Bay Harbor Inn. It was probably the finest and most expensive restaurant in Sandusky, and had the added cache of being located on the grounds of Cedar Point, the massive and wonderful amusement park located on a sandbar peninsula separating Lake Erie from Sandusky Bay. This is actually a pretty good restaurant with lovely views of the marina and bay. You can take a ferry from downtown Sandusky or drive out the causeway, but you need to use a special entrance so you don't have to pay a park entrance fee. I recently visited the Bay Harbor for the third time recently and figured I should do a review. The restaurant is nestled in one of the largest Lake Erie marinas and next to the greatest amusement parks in the world. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Cedar Point, this is the place. The food is certainly worlds away from anything else nearby, with a lounge/bar area that can allow you to relax without a full meal. However, the lounge has brought back a decent menu for itself. I've had the filet with potatoes, and side of fresh veggies( which are local organic). The steak was tender with plenty of flavor, even though I get it medium-well. No steak sauce needed here. For dessert, if have had the lemon cheesecake and the flour-less chocolate cake. I must say both are amazing. Both are great in the lounge too, if you want a quick taste and adult beverage. My only wish for the Bay Harbor is more chicken breast options and a gourmet side of Mac and cheese. Only because it's my favorite! read more

Bay Harbor was recommended by one the of employees at the front desk at our hotel (Breaker's Express). They did not steer us wrong. This place was amazing. Food was out of the world. My girls (19 and 14) order the king crab legs. Not only were they REALLY king size, they were the freshest, sweetest crab legs I have ever tasted!! I had the surf & turf (which included an African lobster tail). I've had lobster in Maine and this lobster was by far better than any lobster I've ever tasted. We visiting the restaurant back in May and everytime we go out to a "fine" restaurant, the girls always mentions Bay Harbor and how we need to go back. Expensive but well worth it!! read more

We just had dinner here, and were delighted with the service and the location. The food was also quite good, with the slight exception that the scallop risotto was a bit salty. Our waitress Trisha was excellent and helpful. We had the pecan ball for dessert, and it was great. Also, their special olive and garlic butter is awesome. My boyfriend and I dined here during our vacation to Cedar Point. We were blown away by the atmosphere, service, and of course, the food! Ed was our server. He was an absolute delight! He was friendly and made great recommendations for our dinner. The crab legs were plump and tender. The scallops and risotto were cooked very well and the dish was extremely flavorful. We ended the meal with a slice of fresh key lime cheesecake. YUM! if you're looking for an upscale meal while at Cedar Point, this is the place. So maybe we went on an off night for this restaurant. End of summer, tired of crowds, although it wasn't busy, growing up in a resort town I get it but it doesn't make sub par food and service ok. Our ahi tuna appetizer was cooked, not seared. My risotto was clumpy, the seafood in it was chewy and there were only 3 small mushrooms in the mushroom risotto. The LA Crema pinot noir was reasonable in price and excellent. The pecan ice cream dessert was very good. The service just seemed tired and we never saw our server. Sorry, Bay Harbor maybe the experience is better at the beginning of the season. read more
