My garage door opener was broken and i filed a claim through Fidelity Home Warranty who connected me to Bay Area Doors. Once I had the insurance part sorted I checked on Yelp and got really scared about Bay Area Doors with all the negative reviews from people who had contracted them through Fidelity home warranty. I may have been lucky, but I have to say that I was satisfied with the service that was provided today. The appointment was scheduled between 9 and 11 today and I asked them to try to meet the earlier part of the time window or otherwise call. The guy from Bay Area Doors arrived at 9.15, was friendly and polite. He exchanged the springs which were broken, didn't try to talk me into any other service (the very old garage door opener would have given enough reason to do a sales pitch) and completed the work within 15 minutes and I can use my garage again. Unless there's a catch I haven't discovered yet, Bay Area Doors have met my expectations. read more

My home warranty company dispatched Willie who called to discuss details. Based on my description and texted pictures, he did not think the warranty company would cover. I called the company and sure enough they declined. Since Willie had offered to do it on a retail basis however, and now I am so thankful he did, I called back for an estimate. Willie committed to a not-to-exceed number, which I thought was reasonable so we scheduled the repair. Willie did a great job with the repair (unhinged cable, rails off the tracks, bent tracks, garage door closed at an angle, etc), and restored it back to where it is now working like new. That was not my only impressive experience with Willie: when he first came out, he was able to do a personal inspection and the final quote he gave me was almost half of the original not-to-exceed! And that was what he charged me. My final bill turned out to be only $15 more than my warranty company's service call fee (had they not declined)! Willie is a master craftsman and most importantly, a man of his word! The service industry needs more people like him! I recommend Willie wholeheartedly! read more

Called Fidelity Home Warranty on Wednesday due to garage door not opening. Was contacted on Wednesday by Bay Area Doors and was initially schedule an appointment for the following Monday, but was rescheduled for Friday 9am-11am. The Technician, Darren, arrived approx. 0920. Darren was very polite. My husband explained the problem to Darren, and by 0945 Darren had fixed it by changing out the gear & sprocket. Darren also made suggestions to my husband on how to perform regular maintenance. We are very happy with the customer service provided by Darren. I was very skeptical after reading all the negative reviews. If they have stepped up their customer service, then kudos to them. read more

The second technician was rude, late, and wouldn't complete the full services promised by the first technician. Additionally, they were very inflexible with appointment times. I was a little uncertain about this company based on reviews I read here. I too was referred to them by Fidelity Home Warranty. Tho I had to wait 3 business days for my appointment, Darren (the technician) showed up in the early part of the 2 hour window of time I had been given. Had these guys come out to fix the springs above the garage door. They were contacted through my insurance, Fidelity. I was MORE than pleased! The technician was clean, respectful and above all HONEST! The last company I had come in a year ago, to replace my motor, told me my garage door wouldn't last a year and I needed to buy one ASAP. after speaking to the tech from Bay Area Doors he informed me otherwise. He said my door was actually in good condition and if I did a few inexpensive things I would get quite a few more years out of the current door. Based on my recent experience with them, I don't recommend Bay Area Doors as well as Hisco Home Warranty. I bought a house recently and after about a month the hinge came off from the garage door opener. Hisco assigned Bay Area Doors to handle it. I asked Hisco who will determine if it is covered by the warranty and they said the contractor does. Bay Area Doors asked me to take some photos and send to them. Then they said it won't be covered because there are some tapes on the opener and obviously someone has done something on it before (well, I didn't touch it since I bought the house). A few days later I put the hinge back and tried to operate the opener but it came off again, so there is something broken inside of the opener. I called Hisco again and they sent Bay Area Doors to my house. Before I even open the garage door, the guy said "I need to collect the $50 deductible". Hmm... then I said Hisco told me there is no deductible if it's not covered by the warranty. The guy said "Sorry, we are dealing with 6 different warranties and I am confused". OK, then he took a look at the opener and said "you have sent us the pictures, don't you? It's not covered by the warranty, why did they sent me here?" All right, since I was told it's not covered so I had another contractor install a new opener (at a lower cost than Bay Area Doors). I thought everything is done, but two days later I got a call from Bay Area Doors. They said Hisco authorized a new opener for me and they were going to come here to install it. You can know my feeling then. The reason I don't recommend Hisco is because they are still using such a poor contractor (I am not the only person having complaints on Bay Area Doors). Don't they review the contractors periodically? Also, they said the contractor determines if it's covered by the warranty or not, then why Bay Area Doors said it's not covered but later Hisco authorized a new opener for me? read more

My garage door spring broke last night. I called Bay Area Doors this morning. The gentlemen who answered the phone gave me a price and said he would call back in 5 min to check on scheduling. It was no more than 1 min. The appointment was set and they arrived on time, it might have even been a little early too. He replaced both springs and inspected the door. He found a broken hinge and replaced it on the spot. The price that was quoted is what I paid. I will defiantly use them again. read more

Bay Area Doors was dispatched by home warranty company. As soon as the tech stepped out of his truck he informed me that the garage door couldn't be fixed, but must be totally replaced. Eventually went into the garage and quickly surveyed the door. Both springs were broken and cables off the drums. He said the manufacturer and installing company of the existing garage door were both out of business. Estimated replacement to be around $1000. After he left I called another garage door repair company. They were onsite within 2 hours and had it repaired, aligned, and lubricated in a little over an hour at a fraction of his estimate. Works perfectly now. I believe that the tech was either not competent or just wanting to sell a new garage door. Very displeased with Bay Area Doors. Would not recommend them. read more

Ive had to use this company because of my home waranty. The repairman had no clue what was wrong with my garage door. He did not test anything. He said that the garage door was not working because the sensor wires were chewed on by the dog of the previous owner of the house. I was in L.A. at the time, my mom was home, and this guy was lying to her about was wrong with the door. He accused me over the phone of removing the sensor wire, which i did not do. I had just bought the house and everything was as-is. I told him over the phone to please have somebody else come over. I request somebody that was competent at repairing garage door, not a repairman wannabe. He assured me that his supervisor was going to come by, but no one never came. I had to hire a different door company to fix my garage. The problem turned out to be that one of the wheels was completely worned out and got stuck which in turn burn out the motor. The guy told me that the sensor had nothing to do with it, all the sensor do is to prevent the door from closing if something is in the way and nothing else. The cost a little bit high, $750, but worth it. the guy did an excellent job and was very honest. A few weeks later i got a bill from the mail for the $50 copayment for bay area door. There is no way i will be paying this bill, that repairman from bay area door tricked me into thinking that somebody else would be coming by. I wil be consulting my lawyer to sue them and the home warranty company for the cost of the actual repair of my garage door. i would rather spent thousands of dollars in court, that pay $50 dollars not earn. read more

Willie from Bay Area Doors came to repair my garage door this morning. Most repair services give you a 4 hour time frame and arrive towards the end of the time they have given you, or later. Willie called to ask if he could come early, a pleasant surprise! He asked me what the door was doing and then did his own diagnosis. He had the problem diagnosed and repaired in 15 minutes. I also had him do a service on the door. It's never operated as smooth and quietly as it does now. I will definitely call Bay Area Doors again if I need additional service or repair. Poor technical expertise. Bad customer service support and experience. Tech recommended tearing out entire sheet rock left to right above garage door before they can replace broken spring. When asked about reason, tech could not provide a logical or rational reason other than that sheet rock needed to be removed, even in areas outside scope of work, for them to do their job. It's noteworthy that all parts that needed replacements are fully accessible. Called another company for second opinion - they came in replaced the spring in less than 20 min and without tearing a single piece of sheet rock. Would not recommend Bay Area Doors. read more

Home warranty assigned this company for my garage door that would only open 1/2 way and then take several attempts to shut. After 3 days with no call to make the appointment I called myself and they scheduled to come another 3 days later. Willie took my call and was very nice on the phone and upon arrival with another man. I think his name was Anthony? Anyways I start to explain the issue in detail and one of the things I said was that I noticed the door was tilted pulling more on one side than the other - I WAS IMMEDIATLEY CUT OFF! I am a woman and he treated me just like he thought he should - ignorant! Anthony tells me that they aren't there for that, only the garage door opener. He explains the sensor was misaligned and fixed it (re-centered) and then they'd be on their way. I understood about the warranty so I explained that I might consider hiring them to fix the garage parts because the alignment was seriously off and you could even see the arms lifting on each side were pulling on one side more (it is fixable because this is my 5th house, Duh - not my first rodeo dude!) . He told me that it was not repairable that this was the original garage door that came with the property. Seemed odd that he would turn down a job until I thought about the fact that he probably would have sold me a new garage door to make the sale however he made a comment that I am in an HOA that requires new garage approvals. Aha! There it is. Scammers for sure but they can't scam an HOA easily so he left this WOMAN alone. In 2006 I contacted Bay Area Doors, to fix a problem with my garage door for a condo I own in Pleas ant Hill. I spoke with Willie, the owner and he helped me trouble shoot the problem. As it turns out I needed a new spring and he promptly came over and changed it for me. Out of three companies I called, he was the least expensive, while doing an excellent job and showed genuine concern that I was satisfied with the outcome. The spring and workmanship was guaranteed for 5 years. This past Friday I needed to replace a spring that has broken in our garage door, in our home ,in Concord. Again Willie came out did an excellent job. While the price went up, I had called 2 other companies and he was still the least expensive and showed the same amount of integrity and customer service he did 5 years ago. My garage door opener finally crapped out on me on a Saturday night so I called the service number that was next to the wall unit that Monday morning. Willie answered and was able to come that afternoon. He showed me what was broken with my unit (it was probably 15-20 years old) and gave me the option to repair it (which would be a temporary fix,) or replace it which I opted to do. Had a broken door spring. Called Fidelity National Home Warranty who sent these folks out. Technician came on time and replaced the springs in about 20 minutes. But after the work, the door no longer closes properly and buckles outward when it closes. We called Fidelity to report this and they put in a recall. The technician came out again, and when I explained the problem, he said it couldn't have been caused by the replacement of the springs. We discussed the fact that before they did the replacement, the door didn't have these problems, but they kept claiming that it wasn't because of the work they did. The sprocket and gear broke on our 9 year old garage door opener on New Years Eve morning. I tried to fix it myself to no avail so I called the company who originally installed it. They said they could replace it with a new opener but not for a week due to the holidays. Later in the afternoon a friend recommended Bay Area Doors. I called them at about 3 pm and they said they could repair, not replace, the opener that afternoon. I was referred to this company through a service request from Fidelity Home warranty. I checked the reviews on yelp and was concerned because of the poor reviews. When I spoke to them on the phone they seemed knowledgeable, not the friendliest of people but knowledgeable none the less, so I decided to give them a shot. I explained to them that my garage door opener was very old and it suddenly decided that it would not open more than 1.5 feet off the ground. They told me they would send a technician out the next day. Little did I know that my experience was going to be similar to what I had read in the reviews. My wife was at home when the technician showed up unexpected an hour early without notice. The technician lubricated the moving parts and simply increased the up force of the garage door opener. He told her that the garage door opener was old and if we had any issues in the future it would have to be replaced. He told her that if we don't want to have issues with the garage door opener we should not use it as much (who has a garage door opener and intends to not use it? We park our cars in the garage!). He then asked my wife if I ever lubricated the moving parts, she told him that she was not sure. He wrote in the service order that the problem was due to improper maintenance. When she told me what the service order said so I called the office. I spoke with Adam and explained the situation. I asked him how they can write that there was improper maintenance without even talking to me? He then became defensive and started to interrogate me on my maintenance practices, including what parts I lubricate and with what type of lubricant. I think I caught him off guard when I told him the exact proper maintenance procedures including clearing it of any debris, lubricating the rollers with a silicone lubricant, lubricating the rails and other metal moving parts with white lithium lubricant every 3 months. He then told that there were other contributing factors including aftermarket Styrofoam insulation (which was not installed by me and only has a combined weight of 2 lbs). He refused to remove what was said on the service order and stood by what the service technician had written. The bottom line is don't do business with this company, it's not worth it. They have poor customer service skills and make stuff up to try to pass the blame on the consumer. If you get referred by a warranty company, tell them that you would like a different contractor, they have other contractors that are honest hardworking people. read more
