Like others have stated, they were dispatched to us by our home warranty company. William (Willie) came out and indicated our motor does not work because it burnt out due to not being connected to a grounded outlet. Now I am not an electrician, but my dad is and he said there is no requirement for a garage door motor to be plugged into a grounded outlet. Furthermore, Willie did something to our door that disabled the ability to lock this. Upon realizing this, I called him fully expecting him to come back and fix it, but he did not offer. In fact he went so far as to say our garage had no ability to lock - complete lie as it has been locked everyday since we moved in. Fidelity National needs to find a new company to work with. read more

Has two different businesses using the same phone number. Was rude when I asked if this was bay area door. Was not friendly or easy trying to set up and appointment. I did what was asked by the home warranty company as far as making room by the garage door opener. He said it was not enough and would have to come back for an additional cost. He was rude to my sister as she was 10 minutes past 10 getting to my house due to more then normal traffic and stop lights. I'm sorry there are personal family issues but don't take it out on your customers. Maybe he needs to get rid of a business if he can't handle them both. Would never recommend them or use them again. Very pleased, I was connected to this company through my home insurance company on a Friday evening. I was told I would be contacted within two business days (Monday or Tuesday). The gentleman Willie called me on Sunday (what a pleasant surprise). I did a bit of trouble shooting over the phone to prepare himself for the appointment we agreed on and then told me he'd call me the day if the appointment. I've come to expect people to NOT keep their word so I was thrown off when he actually called, then actually showed up on time and completed the required task professional and expeditionsly. WOW! Really surprised by some of these harsh, negative reviews. That wasn't my experience at all. Really not impressed with Fidelity Home Warranty (...but that's another review) However, I was EXTREMELY impressed with Bay Area Doors. Technician was scheduled to come out to fix garage door on Thursday, between the hours of 8-10am. Technician called Thursday, at 8:30am, to say he was 5 mins away. He arrived, knew right away what the problem was, and got to work. He was very polite and friendly. He was in and out by 9:15....AND he was still able to explain how to perform regular maintenance on my garage door, at least 4 times a year, to get the maximum performance and longevity. We had to use this company through our home warranty. They were nice on the phone and set up a time to come out, Friday between 9-10. The guy called at 8:30to say he was here. The first thing the guy asked was to use the bathroom, not a problem, however he smelled up half the house. Next he started working on the door and said it was a capacitor. When he went to leave we pushed the button to open the door and it hesitated but he said it was nothing. As he left we closed the door and it started smoking. My husband unplugged it and called the guy asking him if he could come back. The guy looked at it, replaced the same capacitor and said not to use it so much (we used it twice) or to hold the button down. As he was getting into his car my husband tried it again, it started smoking even more, the light cover fell off and a light came loose. My husband ran out to wave the guy down and he ignored him. So my husband called his phone and he did not answer. In disbelief we called our home warranty company, while on the phone with them the repair guy called and when we told him what happened he said he would not come back to have them send out another company. So now we are waiting for another repair company with a broken, smoking garage door opener in our smelly house. Overall I am highly dissatisfied with the customer service we received and the attitude of the repair guy. I highly recommend NOT using this company. Avoid them like plague. Chosen by Fidelity home warranty. Showed up on time, did not even touch the unit. Claimed the garage door lacked sensors and battery backup. Wrote up a report saying whole unit needs to be replaced, without identifying anything. Wrong as the garage has sensors. Now calls up home warranty and says it is not covered under it. Now he calls me and tries to upsell motor replacement and threatens me that the report is going to home insurance (not warranty) and so it is my liability unless I change it immediately. Long story short, warranty deployed second opinion, who found the problem, fixed the switch within 10 mins and done. read more

Bay Area Doors was dispatched by home warranty insurance company. The process started with my request as my door was not opening and closing correctly. Within one day I had and Willie showed up a day later. He accessed the situation and determined that my issues were related to several minor adjustments and the repositioning of the right roller track which was binding the door when raising and closing. Some of these items were outside of the insurance company scope and therefore my financial responsibility. Willie made all necessary adjustments in a short time frame. He was very professional and very knowledgeable. I paid the $75 co-pay per my insurance policy. Willie gave me a very good deal on the items which were not covered by insurance. Willie was prompt in returning my call. We scheduled for the next morning and he called 15 minutes before he arrived. Within 2 seconds of seeing the garage door, he diagnosed that the problem was a stripped gear, fixed it, and was done in 15 minutes. He also helped diagnose another problem I was having with my remote controls as I had two transmitters causing a signal mixup. Because he has seen pretty much every problem out there, he's quick to diagnose the problem and doesn't seem like the type of person to slowly explain his thinking process. If I were being critical, he could probably work on his communication since owners are probably curious of how their money is being spent, but then again, he has a lot of appointments and is hired to solve your problems and not to chit-chat. I imagine that the negative reviews were because there was some miscommunication as Willie knows what's he doing and owners probably don't, and he's not the one to walk you through it step by step. Fidelity Warranty dispatched Willie from Bay Area Door. Prior to his arrival he informed me that "if" the cable was fraying he'd have to charge us an additional $100 to rebalance the door which Fidelity would not cover. When he arrived he said the garage door was installed incorrectly which he informed Fidelity of this and then left after telling my son's girlfriend that Fidelity doesn't even pay him. Didn't even call me to ask me if I'd like to pay for repair "if" now Fidelity wasn't going to. He told me he needed to order a part. Never heard from him again. Just had another company show up, it was repaired quickly and was determined that it WAS installed correctly and our repair guy told us that is a JOKE if Willie is charging anyone to balance the door afterwords. Their work is great. But we had to work around there schedule only Tuesday or Thursday and u can't choose a time, one has to fit in their time schedule. They didnt look into fine details like making sure the alignment is correct, so the garage still gave us problems it would stop randomly. After several return trips by Bay Area doors,Fedelity Home Insurance told us to look for our own repair guy, since Bay Area told them that they have fixed the garage which was not true. The different contractor figured out the problem. it was the alignment of the sensor which he fixed in 10 mins and since then we had no problems. Hope this helpful for him to help his next customers. EXCEPTIONAL COMPANY, BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! I am a property manager and contacted Fidelity National Home Warranty for a garage door repair and they sent out Bay Area Doors. They're company is located in Concord, the building needing assistance was in San Jose on the border of Cupertino. The company reached out to me within the 24 hour time frame as stated by the home warranty company, which happened to be during their closed office hours. Yup, they make sure clients are taken care of with appointments even when the office is closed. There was a confusion in appointment timing, but Willie made it work, he got access to the garage door through one of my tenants. Turns out, our garage door isn't even covered under the home warranty. However, the only thing our door needed was some spray oil on the spings/coils other metal mechanisms, Willie went ahead and took care of it for us. read more

Not the mostly friendly people. I had no choice to use them as it went through our property management and warranty company. I got a call from the scheduler who was short, curt and sounded like he hated his job. I asked for a call ahead call for when they would expect to be here. He was put off that I even asked and scheduled a call ahead. When I got a call ahead call from the technician, he said 15 minutes. No problem, he showed up in that time. However, he called me from my street and said "Yeah, you need to move your van out of the driveway". OOOOKKKK? I asked if he could park in a visitor spot. "No, I need to back my truck up to the garage door and I need you to move your van". Well, can you ask a LITTLE nicer!!!! I mean I have an infant and a toddler in the house and you want me to MOVE my van out of the drive way when you can park RIGHT next to the driveway in an open spot. This company was sent out through my warranty company to fix/replace a broken garage door opener. The technician told me I would need a new door opener but that I would also need to replace my garage door. Unfortunately, due to some irregularity with my garage I would also need to do some other work to the structure to get the door to fit. Cost, $2800. He collected his $50 deductible and left. I then got two second opinions both stating that there was no reason to do extra work and that all I needed was the new door opener. The technician mentioned that he works with all of the warranty companies. My opinion is that these guys are happy to run around collecting $50 for a 10 minute appointment all day long and not all that interested in doing any work. Unless, of course, you're willing to pay for all sorts of stuff you don't need in the process. I highly recommend a second opinion if you are forced to use this company. read more

This is my first yelp ever and I never really saw myself yelping until I dealt with Bay Area Door and I felt the need to warn people about this company. Overview: If I could give negative stars I would. Bay Area Door didn't fix a thing, collected their diagnostic fee and tried to scare my wife into paying for services that were unnecessary by telling her her life was at stake. Like most of the people who've reviewed Bay Area Doors, I only ended up with this crappy company because my real estate agent bought me a horrible home warranty with Fidelity National. AVOID BAY AREA DOOR AT ALL COSTS!!! (I also assume that the two 5 star ratings are the company themselves or their employees). Why I'm in this Position in the First Place: My wife and I just bought our first home a month ago and two weeks after moving in our garage door and heater both stopped working. Luckily, or so I thought, my real estate agent had bought us a home warranty. Here's the deal with the home warranties: home warranty companies (in my case Fidelity National) take the $300 from you or your Real Estate agent when you buy a home. They then contract out all of the work to local businesses who apply to be on their list of "preferred" service companies, i.e. Bay Area Doors. It works out for Fidelity because Fidelity doesn't need to pay a staff of service people to be on call and it works out for the local businesses because they now have a pipeline of clients coming to them. Here's the catch in the relationship: in return for the referrals to Bay Area Door, the home warranty company negotiates extremely low rates with the local companies it uses like Bay Area Door. Low rates are fine if you're just starting a business and really need the clients but otherwise the negotiated rates are SO low that the local company (Bay Area Door) has to make it's money somewhere else. Bay Area Door makes their money by telling you that the repairs aren't covered by the home warranty but that they can do the repairs for you right now for $X. You've already paid them the $55 diagnostic fee and they've told you that your life is in danger: "garage door could fall at any time" or "the heater is emitting gas into the house" so you end up doing the repair with them. This situation works out perfectly for for everyone but the home owner because 1) the home warranty company (Fidelity) already has your $300-500 you paid up front for the warranty, 2) the home warranty company doesn't have to pay out on the repairs, 3) the local service company (Bay Area Doors) gets $55 for their 10-15 minutes spent diagnosing the problem and 4) Bay Area Door eventually gets your business. With all that in mind, here's what happened yesterday: Yesterday Bay Area Door showed up at my house where my wife was waiting to meet them. After diagnosing the problem the technician told my wife that the problem was severe and that the garage door could collapse at any time, "could be tomorrow, could be a month from now." He told my wife that the reason the garage door was not operating was because the springs and rollers were rusted through. Here's the kicker: the rusted springs ARE covered under the warranty but the rusted rollers AREN'T. So the tech proceeds to call Fidelity directly and tell them his diagnosis and after getting off of the phone with Fidelity he hands my wife an invoice in which he wrote in detail about the rollers being rusted which isn't covered but DID NOT mention a single thing about the springs being rusted through which IS covered under the warranty. I mean, the Bay Area Door's invoice has language CUT AND PASTED word for word from the Fidelity home warranty under the "Not covered" portion. WHAT A SCAM! Result: The two tech's from Bay Area Door were scaring my wife so much that she gave me a call and asked me what she should do. I knew it was a scam so I told her to hand the tech the check for the $55 diagnostic fee and tell him to leave. While I'm on the phone she hands the guy a check and tell him no thanks on the repairs to which he replies: "Let me talk to your husband, he needs to know how serious this is." So I got on the phone, told him I know it's a scam, I don't want him to do the repairs and he needs to leave. Later that day I get a call from Fidelity to inform me of the denial of coverage (by the way, Fidelity denied coverage on both my garage door and my heater in the same day, less than 2 hours apart). On the phone the Fidelity service person tells me that the repair person from Bay Area Door informed him that both the springs and the rollers were rusted out but because one of the two problems was not covered that they would have to wait until the springs completely snapped and the door fell before they would replace the rusted springs. Luckily I'm an attorney. I'm going to get the necessary repairs done and will seek reimbursement from Fidelity or will sue in small claims. Don't let this company scam you! read more

When I later developed an issue with the door up/down memory he came right out, reprogrammed the door and showed me what he did. Bay Area Doors just completed handling a warranty call on the garage door opener at my daughter's residence, which I helped her with. They made two trips out, and ended up replacing the opener when the initial repair failed to solve the problem (basically, the garage door continued to close part way and then reopen). The owner, Willie, was extremely accommodating and patient. The technician, Darren, was very knowledgeable and did an excellent job on the installation. The replacement opener is of exceptionally high quality and likely will last for many, many years. Bay Area Doors is a customer-oriented business that is concerned about quality and reputation. The owner called me the afternoon of the replacement to be sure we were satisfied. That type of service is rare. Had the unpleasant experience of having this company come to my house today because of a home warrenty issue. Willie, the owner of the company, came to my house today. He told me about some sensors that weren't working and I explained they worked when the opener was working. He then told me that was impossible. I asked him if he was calling me a liar and he just repeated the same thing, thus calling me a liar. He never even looked at the opener. He gave a report to my insurance company that my motor was burned out, but told me the motor housing was cracked. He tells one person one thing and someone else something else. The motor housing is cracked, I inspected it. The motor is fine. I have filed a formal complaint with my insurance company and hope they don't send this guy to anyone else, because it isn't pleasant. read more

Had to use this company for my rental property because of a home warranty. I was a little hesitant because of prior reviews. I'm happy to report that at this point, I am completely satisfied. The company called to schedule an appointment within a reasonable time of my report to the warranty company. The person I spoke to was very courteous. My tenant reported that the technician appeared on time. He even called me a few minutes before to say he was on the way. The repair was done quickly and the garage door is now working fine. My tenant also said the technician was very nice. Based on this experience, I would not hesitate to use this company again. read more

NEVER EVER use this company. They are just ridiculous. can you imagine the owner hanging up a call with the customer. The call was only 8 min. I got them via Fidelity home warranty insurance without any research. The technician came and my mother was home. By the way, they came a bit earlier and my father was not home yet. They DID NOT try to clarify anything with me (on the phone) and just start using the remote to close my door. (I understand that my mother did not answer the technician question due to language barrier.) Then things starts falling from my garage door. Immediately the technician said the door was broken (YES HE BROKE IT). NOW, Fidelity said that they don't cover it and gave me a quote of $1200. I am completely disappointed how this thing goes out of control and I am the customer stuck in the middle. Willie was quite efficient when working on the garage. He came prepared with a new board and tools to effectively work on the garage (unlike the prior repairman). In addition, he was able to pry open the third garage door as well. In total, it seemed as if he did everything in less than an hour.
