These guys are really good. Willie and Darren first came out and my wife was home. They were very courteous and respectful to my wife. I needed rollers replaced so I made another appointment and then I was home when they came. I wanted the same two guys to come out and they did. They do great work and are a pleasure to have come to your home. I would highly recommend these people if you need quality garage door work. I also like the fact they did not try to sell me anything. On the first visit they only needed to silicone spray, my bad, so when I had them do the rollers they gave me a free garage door adjustment. Bat Area doors came via Fidelity Home Warranty company. He said my door is not balanced, not lubed and maintained with his company lubricant. Lazy guy, does not want to spend time and open the unit and see why chain is jammed or what part is broken. They want to just charge $65 and run. Will not hire them again. read more

I also had to use this company through my home warranty. The appointment was initially at 3, but they called and asked to come at 2. I said ok. Then, at 1, they called and asked to come at 1:30. I again said ok, and had to immediately leave work to arrive in time. The technician arrives at 1:15. My daughter lets him in, and he calls me on my cell to tell me that he had to balance my garage door before he did the original work and that this wasn't covered by the home warranty. Told him that he would have to wait till I got home to explain. Once there, after 4 attempts, he still couldn't explain why my doors were balanced, and why I should pay him an xtra $150 for this work. Then, the incredible part, he states that he has called the home warranty, and they confirmed that he could not repair the initially assigned work, until I separately paid him to balance the doors. I told him that I had to call the home warranty company to confirm. Upset, he began to leave. I then yelled at him and said that I altered my schedule at their convenience, but he couldn't wait 5 minutes while I called the warranty company. He agrees to wait, and, while I am on the phone, he NOW calls the warranty company to give his report. Of course, realizing this, I had him leave my home. I then called another company, and had them come out. This new company not only fixed the original problem, but also balanced both of my garage doors (not just the one that needed repair) for a total of $120. So, not only was the technician rude and inarticulate, he wanted to excessively charge me for the work that needed to get performed. Would NEVER have this company come to my house again. read more

Had a bad experience with them through a home warranty call. The inexperience (or intentional experience) of the technician was very evident from the way he diagnosed the issue...he went back and forth couple times identifying a new issue each time and finally ended up to say the opener needs to be replaced. I decided to go with the replacement and on the scheduled day was told that he did not do the right measurement and said I need a different kind of opener and it would cost couple more hundreds! The irony is none of these were covered by home warranty. The worst part was he left the old one parts dismantled even after we specifically asked him to assemble them back!!. HOMEOWNERS BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!!! In August of 2009 my garage door would only open half way and it then stop. Good, I thought because I had home warranty which covered the garage opener. I contacted the home warranty company and my case was assigned to Bay Area Doors. The service tech showed up one hour late, then started telling me he had more than 25 years of garage door repairs and could spots problems right away. He told me the door was binding (technical term) and he could fix it quite easily. He then looked at the garage door springs (two on each door) and told me that the problem was caused by wrong springs installed on the door. Mind you that the springs were just replaced two years ago by a licensed garage door repair company, who replaced the springs based on the original spring requirements for the door. The tech then called the insurance company and told them that due to incorrect spring size on the door, my warranty policy should not cover the binding of the garage door. The technican then asked for the $55 service fee and told me that he could not fix it because the insurance company would not pay for the repairs. I was totally at a loss. The service technician then made me an offer; he could replace the two springs to the correct type for $400, and he happened to have both springs in his truck. What a scam. I told him I would think about it so I could get rid of this scammer. When I called the home warranty company, I was told that since Bay Area Doors called and reported the garage door had incorrect springs, it was now in the file, even though they were replaced based on the specs called for by the garage door manufacturer. Going forward my home warranty would exclude the garage door mechanism . . . . . Frustrated and angry, with my garage door unable to open, I went to Home Depot and bought a can of garage door spray and sprayed on the tracks and the traction area. Guess what, it worked, and has worked since. read more

After speaking with two other garage door companies Fidelity Warranty recommended Bay Area Doors, my spring was broken and chain was off track. I made an appointment with a cheerful agent. The owner, Willie, called and said he would be early and was. The workmanship was absolutely excellent, never had a better or more gracious contractor show up at my home. I would leave a feedback of "-5", if I could...... My garage door spring broke Monday morning. The car was stuck in the garage, since I could not on my own lift the door. Stayed at home all day. Missed work. I had to use Bay Area Doors of Concord, CA through my home warranty. Appointment was setup for Tuesday morning. Good, I thought. I stayed at home with a hope to go to work later, when my car is "freed". The repair guy, Scott, called 15 minuted before the appointment time telling me that he is late and he needs an empty garage to work on the door. I told him my car is stuck there with no way to get it out without opening a door. The guy, you guess it, quickly stated that he is not coming and he is refusing to listen to any explanation until I remove the car. I begged him to come and at least take a look. I maneuvered my car in the garage for 10 min. to get him 3 feet from the doors to work on. The guy arrived with extremely rude attitude, but he had a very expensive high end "blue tooth" headset. He looked "very important". Got into garage from inside, looked and stated that he is not going to do anything, even not touch anything until I first, get 3 more people to lift the door (he is not going to risk his health to help with that - the guy was over 6 feet and probably not even 30 y.o.) and, secondly, pay him to install another garage door opener since mine is "out of code". The price - $600 !! Only then he will fix the broken door spring. I still do not understand what perfectly operational garage door opener had to do with broken door spring..... I called my friend who worked near by (luckily he was able to come on short notice), he came and we lifted the door up. Just me and my friend, Scott was pushing a button to activate garage door opener.... In the meantime, Scott (the guy from Bay Area Doors) was calling my warranty company telling them all the stories how the garage door opener needs to be replaced and he is not going to touch the broken spring until that. I told warranty company I want a second opinion. Scott quickly collected $55 deductible for his arrival and dissappeared in 5 seconds.... Literaly 5 seconds. Luckinly I had a car out and could go to work. I called other 4 garage door companies, they all were happy to fix the door spring and ALL stated that garage door opener HAD NOTHING to do with the broken spring. Another company came in 2 days and replaced springs in an hour. Nice, fast, polite. Home warranty paid for all their work. Well, what an experience... Later I called a Warranty company and told them not to ever schedule me with Bay Area Doors again! read more

When I had a problem with my garage door, I was referred to Bay Area Doors by my provider, Home Warranty. I called their number and the scheduler was very pleasant and spoke to me clearly, and scheduled me within a timely manner. When the guy came to my house, he had noted my visual impairment and didn't ask me if I checked the track alignment and he just started his work and the fix was great. My experience was eerily similar to Kimberly B's. I contacted my home warranty company about my garage door (motor was running but the chain was not moving) and they sent Bay Area Doors. The guy took a token glance (and I do mean glance) and immediately decided that I needed to pay him $75 so he could "secure" the motor before he could proceed to the warranty work of replacing a gear inside the motor. I declined and asked my warranty company to send someone else. They sent another company who changed the gear without any problems and was done in about 15 minutes. I asked if the motor was "unsecure" and he said it was "kinda loose, but not going to fall or anything." I strongly suspect Bay Area Doors is scamming warranty holders into paying extra. read more

They are not a customer satisfaction company at all after they talk you into buying things you don't need and after all the work is done, they are done with you and you won't see them again. Don't tell them they did anything wrong either because they will argue with you about it instead of making it right. I'm totally shocked Fidelity Home Warranty continues to use this company. I used this company in early Jan on a home purchased last Aug. The issue was one door (of two) that had gone from working fine at the interior switch, to only working intermittently and then getting stuck partway. They called the day before to confirm my appt, but I had to postpone and they were ACCOMMODATING. As scheduled, two POLITE guys came ON TIME, were pleasantly COMMUNICATIVE. The intermittently working door worked fine when they checked it at the inside switch. they asked about the remotes but I said they didn't need checking (they had worked when I bought the house but hadn't been used for five months - no room for cars yet). So the diagnosis was intermittent "sticking" due to metal wheels which had old paint on them and some rust (I live very close to the ocean). Rather than lubricating, it was recommended that all the wheels be replaced - I was told the home warranty would not cover parts for a "maintenance related" issue, ie these wheels should not have been painted. The parts would be my cost, with a DISCOUNT for doing both doors - labor FREE - $350 total. I was a little disappointed but, being close to the beach, new polyurethane wheels seemed a good idea. They replaced the wheels and checked and adjusted the motors for proper powerage. They tested the doors at the inside switch several times and both worked fine. They gave me maintenance instructions (also on their website) or said I could call for anything. They seemed very CUSTOMER SERVICE ORIENTED. Shortly after the appt I realized the remotes were not working for either door. The same two guys came back PROMPTLY (again on warranty) and APOLOGIZED that they hadn't insisted on checking them. Turns out a power outage two months prior had scrambled the remote sensors. A reset button on the motors was pushed and now the remotes work fine. No charge for the second visit. I don't expect anymore problems and if I don't want to do the regular maintenance I now have a discount coupon for that too. Bottomline: I see there are some low reviews and I believe that's made an improved difference. I would give them five stars if the remotes had been checked at the first appt . What the heck, I'm giving five stars anyway because working with them was VERY PLEASANT, I'm happy with the results and the prices, and they've apparently taken Yelp to heart and made changes. read more
