On our 14 day journey of Spain that encompassed Madrid / Marbella & Barcelona, we obviously ate in several restaurants encountering many different waiters. To say our evening experience at Batuar during our recent stay at The Cotton House Hotel was exceptional would be an understatement. I have to differ from evening experience, because it is far different than the morning . Our first dinner, we had a reservation here with our two daughters. We were greeted by the manager who sat us at a beautiful table on the dimly lit, beautifully decorated terrace; he was friendly & greeted us by name. I was afraid we may be chilly but they had set our table up with two portable heaters, in case. We were quickly met with our very favorite waiter of our entire European journey: D'mitri. He was flawless in his service to us in every way. In fact, we enjoyed him so much, we asked for him on the second night we returned after dining at another dinner off property and wanted desserts & drinks. D'Mitri is perfect in his service descriptions; his movement of service & if you know , you know. Our one daughter, works in Human Resources for an opposing brand , ( The Four Seasons) , she was ready to recruit him ON the spot! I was also was ready to recruit this excellent person for my company too! The way D'Mitri poured my French champagne, didn't point his hands and simple gestures that most corporations don't teach their staff goes a LONG way. The food here is on par of a Michelin star rating. We started with the Pear Foie Gras Cannelloni , ( my nut allergies were noted & chef adhered to them well, at night! ); some of the table had oysters. Three of us had the Filet Wellington; one had the Lobster Dry Rice. The Tomato Bread was also shared. We shared desserts, as if we were not full.. BUT when in Spain .. and getting 20k steps per day! The Pistachio Cheesecake was different & tasty. The Sacher Tarte reminded us of Vienna. The next night we all shared a Dessert Tree- so unique ! D'mitri topped my husband's sherry off without his request gratis! And my Laurent Perrier Rose champagne was divine at only 22€ per glass! The way he pours is amazing! To also find a Priorat wine per glass is a find as an American . I give dinner 10 stars & between the service of our favorite waiter & manager- The food - the ambience alikg with the decor; The amazing wine, there is nothing wrong here. I give the breakfast service a bit less on stars because it disappointed us in terms of service. The manager , we assumed the blonde 'gentleman' throwing tableware whilst yelling at a waitress in Spanish on our first day at breakfast was a manager.. ( not a good look, mind you , it's incredibly unpleasant at a rate for what one pays to stay here, to witness waiter toss a tantrum while dining). He also took our order at 1030 , ( with breakfast going to 11a), looking at his watch & never delivering our coffee or waters. I finally walked to the bar myself to ask for our drinks & a server , while he tossed his table settings on the floor and mumbling constantly under his breath to himself--So unprofessional . Our waitress looked on the verge of tears each day we saw her at breakfast . We ordered off the Al la Carte menu , which comes with the buffet & is great! I asked for an Avocado Toast with no sesame on morning one & it was delivered with sesame; I'm very allergic; my husband switched his delicious Egg Benedict with me & it didn't dissapoint . The next day was more of the same. I ordered a soft boiled egg, twice- it finally came after we were almost done eating. That said, the breakfast team is not as happy or as on point with service as the dinner team, the mark is missed in many ways. The food & breakfast buffet is delicious though if it comes how you want and order it. Attention always needs to be made of food allergies, which is done at the dinner service , from server to chef , but not at breakfast. Breakfast can be delivered to your room for a service fee of 5€ - we did that on our last day before our flight to enjoy on our Vichy Suite terrace & they got it 80% right. I guess they can't all be as great as 'team evening' ! Again, ten stars for the dinner menu food & night staff and twenty stars for D'Mitri :-) we will miss you! You truly are a gem as is your manager! read more
