READ THIS BEFORE SELLING YOUR COLLECTION To HERO COMICS & CARDS!…read more I walk in and the owner shows me this incredible card collection he just bought from someone and starts bragging how he already sold a card for $2000. Mind you, he had no idea how to identify some of these cards. I've been in this hobby for 10+ years and I was more than happy to show him everything I know on about how to identify a card. One of the cards I helped him identify was worth $900-1300 conservatively and in NM condition. When he found out how much this card was worth he told me he didn't even factor this card into the value of the collection when he paid for the collection. He said that he thought this particular card wasn't real or was tacky. If you do not know how to evaluate certain cards don't accept them but instead do the right thing and guide your customers to a place that can evaluate a collection appropriately. This should be common sense for someone who has been in the industry as long as you have been. When the owner realized how much the card was worth he didn't seem too concerned about ripping the person off at all! Instead he said "sometimes not knowing what a collection is worth can truly payoff," then he laughed. I really tried to have a good conversation with this man but deep down my intuition was screaming that this person was lost in Greed. There was one card I wanted to buy and he wasn't even willing to sell the card for fair market value even though I helped him identify these cards. All of a sudden somehow he became the expert and was suggesting that these cards were worth more than they actually were. He kept referencing TCG player prices but he knows nothing about how this market works and pretends he does! He didn't even know how to look up these cards on TCGplayer until I showed him. The prices you find on TCGplayer are oftentimes above market value and you can almost always find them cheaper on eBay! Don't deal in a market you're clearly not informed enough to deal in. Be ethical and guide people in the right direction rather than try and fill your own pockets. It's just really sad businesses like Hero Comics exist. I feel for the customer who didn't get the value for their collection that they truly deserved. If you are looking to sell a collection get a quote from multiple card shops before actually selling your cards. If you find out your cards are worth a pretty penny reach out to an online auction that pays 90% of a cards value! Their are plenty of local card shops that know what they're doing and won't accept cards that they are not experts in. Many of these shops are fully transparent with you about the cards you have and can guide you into the right direction. And to Hero Comics, no one is perfect, do the right thing, actually reach out to the person, and be fully transparent with them on what the cards are worth and what they sell for. Give them at least a 70% commission which is industry standard for most card-shops. Take accountability, learn, and grow. I'm confident you will.

RC cars are designed to break in certain areas to prevent other areas from getting damaged, and ordering parts and repairing the RC cars and planes is a HUGE part of the hobby and an important learning lesson for kids. That being said when I went in there were only kids working the shop, but one of the gentlemen/kids was pretty knowledgeable. I think for what it is this is a good shop with a variety of things to offer. A 1 star review about not being able to use the bathroom is just rude and should not be warranted. I also thought for the stores location being in a upscale neighborhood the prices are decent. Also, about 3 years ago I stopped by with my younger brother and they let us drive the RC cars around in the parking lot which was fun.

As the parent of an elementary school student, we typically go there quite often. The manager, Nancy, is very sweet and a whiz at wrapping anything in the store. We are members of the rewards program and have made use of many $10 rewards certificates. This business has two locations, Westport and Stamford. We like to support local businesses and have chosen to shop them despite some lower prices at cheaper chains like Target, Walmart, or Amazon. We achieved a $10 rewards certificate just prior to the local school closures and statewide lock down. Clearly, during the lock down and the pandemic as a whole, we have done our best to avoid crowds and low ventilated areas. There have also not been ANY birthday parties since March. Today, we took the opportunity to venture into the store to get a present for a close friend (again, no party). After completing our shopping, with Nancy's help, I was astonished to learn that my now expired reward would NOT be honored. I tried to call the corporate office three times to speak with "Nick", but I was sent to voicemail each time. During the pandemic, I have been given extensions on airline miles, travel points, hotel reservations and various other rewards, coupons and now expired benefits. On their website, this company has a tab that claims to support local communities. If they truly want to support communities, the policy of not honoring rewards that expired during the pandemic must be scrapped. The day after we shopped, Nancy called me personally to say that she had spoken with corporate to fight for the customer rewards. Her persuasive efforts apparently worked and she reported that, the next time I come to the store, my expired pandemic rewards would be honored. She is great at her job and I hope she is treated as she deserves to be.

Yes, the store is pretty picked through. Some departments are better than others. For example, I was able to get popular kids books (The Babysitters Club and Goosebumps) with no issues, lots of baby books, extensive personal development, relationships, etc. section. It seemed like the only departments where I couldn't find ANYTHING were general fiction, mysteries/thrillers, and romance. TBH it's a clearance store so I didn't expect to have the best luck finding anything too popular. However, some people were in here bugging the staff about popular authors and new releases and didn't seem to understand the concept of a clearance store. At this point it's basically a treasure hunt. Manage expectations and only go if you're interested in discovering new authors while getting great deals. Anyways... I was also impressed that the cafe was still running and there was lots of seating. The staff seemed nice but overwhelmed. TLDR; treasure hunters welcome. Be aware it's not a normal B&N.
