READ THIS BEFORE SELLING YOUR COLLECTION To HERO COMICS & CARDS! I walk in and the owner shows me this incredible card collection he just bought from someone and starts bragging how he already sold a card for $2000. Mind you, he had no idea how to identify some of these cards. I've been in this hobby for 10+ years and I was more than happy to show him everything I know on about how to identify a card. One of the cards I helped him identify was worth $900-1300 conservatively and in NM condition. When he found out how much this card was worth he told me he didn't even factor this card into the value of the collection when he paid for the collection. He said that he thought this particular card wasn't real or was tacky. If you do not know how to evaluate certain cards don't accept them but instead do the right thing and guide your customers to a place that can evaluate a collection appropriately. This should be common sense for someone who has been in the industry as long as you have been. When the owner realized how much the card was worth he didn't seem too concerned about ripping the person off at all! Instead he said "sometimes not knowing what a collection is worth can truly payoff," then he laughed. I really tried to have a good conversation with this man but deep down my intuition was screaming that this person was lost in Greed. There was one card I wanted to buy and he wasn't even willing to sell the card for fair market value even though I helped him identify these cards. All of a sudden somehow he became the expert and was suggesting that these cards were worth more than they actually were. He kept referencing TCG player prices but he knows nothing about how this market works and pretends he does! He didn't even know how to look up these cards on TCGplayer until I showed him. The prices you find on TCGplayer are oftentimes above market value and you can almost always find them cheaper on eBay! Don't deal in a market you're clearly not informed enough to deal in. Be ethical and guide people in the right direction rather than try and fill your own pockets. It's just really sad businesses like Hero Comics exist. I feel for the customer who didn't get the value for their collection that they truly deserved. If you are looking to sell a collection get a quote from multiple card shops before actually selling your cards. If you find out your cards are worth a pretty penny reach out to an online auction that pays 90% of a cards value! Their are plenty of local card shops that know what they're doing and won't accept cards that they are not experts in. Many of these shops are fully transparent with you about the cards you have and can guide you into the right direction. And to Hero Comics, no one is perfect, do the right thing, actually reach out to the person, and be fully transparent with them on what the cards are worth and what they sell for. Give them at least a 70% commission which is industry standard for most card-shops. Take accountability, learn, and grow. I'm confident you will. read more

Nice guy! Have a great variety of stuff! Not always what I want/need but still a lot of stuff

Just walked out of that store and won't return, despite being a fairly regular customer for the last year. Owner was talking in an uncomfortably friendly manner with two transphobic customers while they were being completely hateful. He didn't step in to correct them, didn't read the room to see that other customers were uncomfortable with the hateful language being bantered around in his store, and didn't notice that I was in line with three books and then put them all back and left abruptly as that conversation continued. There's no room for hate in comics, and definitely no room in my wallet to support a business owner who won't shut hate down in his store. read more

Extremely well stocked, with current comics and back issues. Lots of other collectible stuff as well. Friendly, knowledgeable staff as well

This is a neat little comic book shop right off of the main road, tucked into a corner shared with Penzey's. The parking is quite limited but it never seems super busy, anyway. Inside the store, you will see lots of weekly comics (most of the store). If you're looking for graphic novels or compendiums, the selection is small and almost missable. There are a few collectors items and toys. It's a neat store to see the latest comics that are in but I prefer the larger comics. The owners were nice to all of the customers, as well. I'd like to give this place 4 stars but it is a small shop that doesn't carry much of what I'm personally looking for. Again, this shop carries mostly weekly comics. read more

This spot is surely A-OK! Theyve got a ton of stuff packed inside this store that looks small from the outside, but is actually pretty big inside! The guy workin up in there is super cool, maybe even a super-hero!? If youve got comic needs, its worth checkin out. Not too much on the sports cards front, but theyve got a few. I do, however, wish he bought some of my memorabilia, but he kept it real with me, and took the time to drop some knowledge. I respect that, i respect the store. During the pandemic, Dave hooked me up with tons of books at a great price. Really nice guy and a great way to pass the days!

During COVID, I started dropping into this shop and others in the area. Good selection on new release day. A pretty modest size back issue bin. Couple of collectibles, primarily POPs. The owner is chatty and amicable enough, but I was really disappointed by the pricing of new release issues--highly marked up by about 4x the cover price on a few books (NOT variants). I could see a slight markup in COVID times for the small shop, but this felt excessive and slightly like it's taking advantage of customers. Didn't feel great. read more

I have only been to a few other comic book stores in my life but Heroes in the cleanest, most organized, and friendliest comic shop I have even been to. As long as im in the area and have the money for comics these two great people will always have my business not because they are the closest comic shop to me because over the few years I have been reading comic books they have become my friends and I know for a fact that if you go to this comic shop they will become your friends too. read more

Great selection of new comics. Good range of old comics. Friendly atmosphere. Caters to kids and helps out newcomers/parents. The complaint previously posted about card prices offered is misdirected and unfair. This is a store in the business to make money. You are free to take or leave any offer. Disclaimer: I have never been to the store. I am writing to warn people not to sell their cards to this store. For four Jace, the Mind Sculptor (even banned about 40 dollars each), four Gideon Jura, four regular Jaces, a foil regular chandra, and various other planes walkers they offered 25 dollars, Not to mention they wanted my whole magic collection as well as my nintendo ds and three ds games. I found this pretty offensive. This offer was by email which I saved. This store will low ball you. You are much better off selling to channel fireball or ebay. What the store does is puts your cards on ebay and makes a huge profit. Taking the low prices the eight jaces are worth at least 200 on ebay. My entire collection is worth well over 25 dollars (sol rings, wastelands, force of wills) but they never inquired into that. read more

I have been reading comics for a few years now and over that time I have learned that not all stores are as clean and organized as Heroes. Not only is the store friendly and welcoming but it is also owned by an amazingly friendly guy who is always up for a conversation. This is how all local businesses should be. read more

Heroes Comics & Cards will never receive my business again. I now don't mind driving an extra 10-15 minutes to buy comics from the next closest retailer, but that's another story. The manager at Heroes is, simply put, not very kind. The times I went there (oh why oh why did I go back?) he was rude and unhelpful. I once heard him ranting to a friend about how most comic buyers are "idiots" and then whining about why his sales have gone down (hint: saying things like that won't make people come back). One of his most egregious crimes involved selling me a new issue of Captain America. It was a special event issue, but nonetheless the cover price was $3. This was also not a special cover or anything, and it had just been released so it was not hard to find, but at the time I was a comic-book-newbie and thus didn't know any better. The price, for no reason other than it was a special issue, was raised to $8. Yes, buyer beware and all that but, again, I didn't know much about comics at the time. Ultimately, a few days later, I was in another shop and saw the same issue selling at the normal cover price. Yes, it was probably my own fault for not shopping around, but at the time I didn't own my own computer or car, meaning that I didn't have much opportunity to look into these things. I was clear at the time that I knew little about comics, so I feel it's fairly obvious he took advantage of my lack of knowledge. Long story short, Heroes isn't worth your time. There are plenty of great stores in CT. The extra drive is worth it to give someone else your business. read more

Not a good store. Counter people have very little to no knowledge of price or products. The selection that they do have is thin at best and what they do have is seriously over priced. Much better going into Stamford or up to New Haven, both are better choices. It is good for role playing games to be fair. Not too much else though. read more
