I love the classic comics way more than the newer stuff. Dean was super informative, nice & friendly! He was telling me that they stopped making the ol' school Archie comic books, which is such a BUMMER! I'm not sure if that applies to the digest versions too, but I know the traditional comic book issues are no longer being made. Apparently, they're going more in the direction of the newer, darker Riverdale style Archie. Like WHY?! Give me my classic Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead & Reggie! I'll still be coming back though b/c this is 1 of my fave comic book spots, & you already know I'm gonna keep hunting for those ol' school Archie treasures plus there's other merch available as well besides comics! Plus the prices are fairly decent!

Why, they even have an adult section which is also very interesting. (Why hello, Bettie Page, how I've missed you. The only fault I can find with the store is that it is kind of small, and its shelving layout makes for a labyrinth of comics and kitsch. However, I suppose for some this is part of this shop's appeal.

I just left this store, and I was honestly floored by the experience. I have been reading and…read morecollecting comics and visiting local comic shops for more than 35 years, and I have never been made to feel so uncomfortable or unwelcome in one. I stopped in around 5:00 on a Monday afternoon and was the only customer in the store. The man behind the counter did not greet me or offer any assistance. That wouldn't have bothered me much on its own, but things got considerably worse when I started looking through the back issues. As I was browsing, he sharply told me to be careful not to bend the comics. I understood his concern--the bins were extremely overpacked--and I politely told him that I would be careful, even though I already was being careful. But he wouldn't let it go. He continued telling me how I should be looking through the comics and repeatedly insisted that I was doing it incorrectly. After more than 35 years of buying and collecting comics, I know how to handle a back issue. I certainly don't need to be repeatedly lectured on how to flip through a comic bin. The entire interaction felt condescending and unnecessarily hostile, and I was made to feel as though I was doing something wrong simply by browsing the merchandise. Needless to say, I will never go back to Alternative Universe. There are too many comic shops where customers are actually made to feel welcome for me to spend my money somewhere that treats a customer this way. A truly disappointing experience.

Best Comic Shop in The Area! I've been going to Rogue Comics…read moresince its initial opening in 2010, and I must say, the place is like fine wine- It gets better with age! The owner Mike is one of the most pleasant people to talk to and his seemingly endless knowledge of comic books and generally nerdy things is rather refreshing. You can tell he loves what he does and puts care into making sure every customer he serves ends up enjoying their visit. Want a certain comic book or piece of paraphernalia that is unavailable at the moment? Mike will offer to order it for you. He is helpful to people of all ages and doesn't get enough credit for the work that he does. I truly hope that Rogue Comics stays open and thrives in its business for years to come.

"Now popular culture Can't stop 'til it gets enough"…read more(John Mellencamp) They've only been open since June and they claim to be "home of the largest collection of pop culture items on the east coast". I can tell you that this store is huge, neatly set up, and boasts an ungodly amount of comics, collectibles, figurines, toys, games, cards, books, posters (check out the very foxy Supergirl) across the pop culture spectrum of movies, television, comic books, super heroes & villains. They even have a small sports card section, so every branch of the Nerd Tree is represented here! They don't have a website, but have a Facebook page on their business card, which I included as a photo.

Do you love comics? Do you love Funko pops?…read more Do you love toys? Well, if you answers yes to any of those questions, Comics and Collectibles in East Hartford, CT is a place you should probably be checking out. I was in Connecticut a few weeks back visiting family and friends when one of them took me to check this place out. From the outside, it doesn't look like much, but when you walk in and head downstairs you are punched in the face by an insane amount of comics and a massive space filled with both them and everything else you could want as well. It seems this store carries new stuff while also having a huge back catalogue and even an entire edition full of complete sets for you to sift through (I ended up finding two awesome sets from Clive Barker, Night Breed and Hellraiser). The toy section here has all sorts of stuff from statues and Funko pops to vintage toys both in and out of the package. Overall, this is a top notch spot for comics and toys if you live in Connecticut. This place has an amazing inventory, a friendly staff, and even though it might be the least creative name for a comic shop I've ever seen, it's about what's inside that counts!
