I came here before going to the Avon theater in Stanford to see some films. The owner of the store was there that day and he was very friendly. The store is laid out very nicely and has some interesting shelving for the records. It is like a drawer that pulls out and you can flip through the records. I picked up a Friday the 13th soundtrack on red vinyl and a Def Leppard record. I also saw on the front of the store they have many boxes of sealed cassette tape's.3 for $10.00 very reasonable for sealed mint cassette tapes. The store of course also carries compact discs and digital video discs. I found everything to be reasonably priced and very good selection of New and used records. I would definitely return here again to pick up some records tapes compact discs or DVDs to add to my collection and to enjoy watching and listening to read more

Really wanted to love this place with the cool vintage rock posters and easy vibe. Just went for Record Store Day and HOLY PRICE GAUGING! Jerry Garcia Band box set - on sale elsewhere for $75,,,Johnny's price $95! (This is now on sale online for $60! - a $35 tax) Both Miles Davis one is $17 elsewhere and other is $23. At Johnny's the same two were $25 and $33 respectively. All about supporting the mom's and pop's but these mark-ups are redic. Would never go back there if that is how they treat their customer's. I wish I could give negative stars. I barely got in the door and got yelled at for not wearing a mask. I'm vaccinated and the mandate has been lifted. I responded with "oops I'm sorry" then went to my car to grab a mask. When I went back in I asked how she was doing. She rudely responded with " so you know, you guys have to get out of here in 15 minutes because I'm going on lunch". Very aggressive and rude. I come here every once in a while and spend good money. is it possible to give no stars? horrible experience. walked out within 5 minutes as the horrid mental patient woman sitting in front managed to be extremely rude to us about five times from the moment we walked in. I brought my kids to introduce them to the vinyl experience, we were psyched to buy some albums but boy, oh boy, we couldn't get out of here fast enough. my husband and I were literally shaking our heads as to what was wrong with the salesperson. stay away folks!!! read more

I came here with a friend for Record Store Day. Never would I ever imagine finding a record shop in Darien, of all places. It's like escaping WASP-land for an hour or so. It's pretty much what you would expect- crammed with all kinds of stuff and really difficult to maneuver around; be prepared for some awkward moments with your fellow audiophiles. They have a couple hundred new albums, loads of singles and a bunch of used albums. The selection is alright, but I'm not complaining- I managed to come away with a few things. They also carry vintage posters/prints, CDs, t-shirts and stickers. There's lots of parking out front, they accept credit cards and the staff is really friendly. The prices are about 25% more than what you would pay online (example: I paid $20 for Arcade Fire's "Funeral, $15 on Amazon) but I think it's worth it to support these places. read more

This is an amazing shop it is been around for really long time I think that anybody who has lived in Darien for a long time would know that this is one of the old traditions an absolute must if you appreciate music do you listen to vinyl and definitely if you like the memorabilia of old posters from concerts or T-shirts to really is no better place to go in all of Fairfield County I hope everyone visits as it is definitely fun! read more

I had a great time celebrating Record Store Day here at Johnny's. I really enjoy the atmosphere each time I stop by. Plenty of great new and used records, along with plenty of other music collectibles. They also had a few musicians play some very nice tunes. Great record shop! Can't speak to CDs or cassettes, but Johnny's got a broad selection of new and reissued vinyl, along with a bunch of bins of well priced used records. The used section is strongest on country and dad rock, and the records seem to be mostly in decent condition. Where else are you going to find an independent music store in Fairfield County, let alone one that carries new and used vinyl? This place has been around since the 1970s and has always steered a course towards good, independent music. Sure, they have some of the popular stuff in stock, but where you are likely to be surprised is in the more obscure stuff. The selection is a little small (but then it's a cool small shop) but if you're not pleasantly surprised by some of the stuff there, you're too jaded and there's no hope for you.
