My experience with this company, specifically Andrew, started with an email where I sent over my inventory spreadsheet, followed by a call. Andrew was straightforward, answered all my questions, and I felt absolutely no sales pressure. The shop itself is very professional and welcoming--definitely not like visiting a pawnshop. Andrew was transparent about how they determine evaluations and took the time to explain everything patiently. In the end, I felt I received a fair price for the coins I sold. I had looked into selling on eBay, but after fees and other costs, there really isn't much left for the seller--so this was a much better option. The only minor downside was the parking. The lot is angled, and I had some trouble getting out because an oversized truck was parked nearby. I ended up backing out without issue, but fair warning for anyone who isn't great at parking! Overall, a professional, honest, and smooth experience--I'd highly recommend. read more

My first experience and grateful to have been given the contact information from trusted friend. The buyer, Christine, was knowledgeable, patient, fair, totally transparent in elevating the items I'd brought. As a Licensed Real Estate Associate Broker in NY & CT, the honesty and fairness of this company can serve also as I'd refer them to clients downsizing who would need to consider selling precious metals. read more

Having dealt with the high pressure metal dealers like Lear Capital & American Hartford, Andrew was a pleasure to deal with. No high pressure and no pushing products to increase that would increase his bo line instead of mine. His premiums were far below those of the big precious metal dealers who advertise ad nauseum on TV. I will gladly do business with Sam Sloat Coins again. Thank you Andrew read more

We have been going to Sam Sloat for years. Their buyers, such as Christine today, are knowledgeable, transparent, patient, friendly and fair. They avoid offputting policies other dealers have, like charging for chemical tests. read more

I'm recalling exactly what happened at that time. I never received any items back from Sam sloat. Sam Sloat buys stolen items and lies about it they make money and the victim loses. I wish I could have pressed charges against Sam Sloat. My ex friend went back to Sam Sloat 7 different days you think they would have caught on. I've attached 2 out of the 7 receipts to this review. I had let a friend (ex friend now) who had cancer stay with me. He stole appraised jewelry, which included antique jewelry, rare coins, and gold items with HRM engraved on them, that my husband's father had received for doing service from the queen of England. All this stuff was worth thousands and very sentimemetal. After my stuff was stolen I found a Sam Sloat receipt that my ex friend dropped and both me and my husband separately went to Sam Sloat to ask them about the items. They denied ever seeing or purchasing our items. I had pics and appraisals. Police got involved. Detectives went to Sam Sloat obtained videos of the person selling them my jewelry and receipts. My ex friend was found guilty on Felony Larceny charges. read more

One star for general fairness when selling metals or jewelry. Negative 10 million stars for rude and impersonal service. Most of the workers there lack interpersonal skills as if they have been raised by a pack of wolves and have never interacted with another human before. Actually, I think they'd be kinder if raised by wolves. Caveat - the little lady there is relatively ok to deal with. The place has very odd energy overall and grosses me out each and every time. Upon leaving, I need to dust off all the negativity that has tried to latch on to me. A big old ick! read more

My family has been dealing with Sam Sloat for at least 50 years and find him reputable and knowledgeable and the best in the business.

Had to unload a bunch of coins, mostly buffalo head nickles, and silver dimes, quarters and half dollars. This was an EZ process. Christine got back to me quickly via email on the possible value of what I had, essentially based on today's silver value. Set up an appt, went in, and within about 30 minutes she went thru the 500+ coins, separated them by value, and then issued a check. Nice, pleasant and Easy. read more

I went to Sam Sloat on November 5, 2014 to buy American Eagle Silver coins. They have a policy of accepting checks (not credit cards) and then waiting for TWO WEEKS to deliver the silver coins. I nearly gagged, and asked the salesman again. Why? I asked. "That's our policy." How ridiculous is that? If you want to buy a gun, you wait a day or two. If you want to buy SILVER, you have to wait TWO WEEKS? What I think it means is that Sam Sloat doesn't own much inventory and now they have two weeks to go out and shop for silver to deliver to me. I think it is disingenuous to say that "It is our policy." and not explain what is really going on. Here's more info: They sell Silver American Eagles for $18.40 and ounce ($3 over the current market price of silver in the futures markets), or they will buy it from me at $15.40 for a cool 19% markup (if they had a seller and a buyer walk in the store on the same day, they would make a fat 19% return). So, when you decide if you want to buy or sell silver, consider these facts before going to Sam Sloat Coins, Inc in Westport, CT on the Post Road (Next to Mitchell's). As for my rating: I'm happy to say that the salesman was nice, but I didn't like Sam Sloat's policies or business practices. So, I can't say I know there is anything "better" out there, but I can say that I feel "fleeced" after walking in there and learning about the way they do business. So, that means I can't give a 2-stars rating. And 1-star seems rude for me to say, since the description says "EEK, ME THINKS NOT". How about something in the middle, maybe a 1.5 star rating. read more

A really vine coin shop. I'm a long time ANA member and coin collector. Over the years, I have bought and sold here numerous times, ranging from selling a large lot of early 1/2's to buying an occasional rare type coin. Always a square deal and once in a while, a bargain. You have to be careful when dealing with coins lately and Sam Sloat is my go-to choice. read more

Excellent service and an impressive knowledge of coins and our American history. Thank you for your help! - Your newest happy customer!

I went here based on recommendations on nextdoor.com. I found them friendly and thought they were fair with me.

I had an excellent experience with these guys in June 2018. The shop was very busy and everyone as really professional and helpful.

I've had coins and scrap silver/jewelry that I've been meaning to do some about first 15+ years. I did some initial research so that I wouldn't be walking in completely blind. The prices I was offered were fair. The staff was friendly, provided good information and explanations, and there was no pressure at all to sell. I would whole heartedly recommend this business and will go back in the future. read more

Staff were very friendly and service was quick and easy although their purchase price for gold was significantly lower than rates I found online. read more

Called Sam Sloat Coins at around 10am and asked for their pricing on gold bullion coins, which I was looking to buy. The woman I spoke to gave me prices for 1-9 coins, and 10+ coins, which were a bit high, but not unreasonable. I wasn't expecting them to beat the prices that the major online sellers offer. So, around 11:30 I got to their shop and asked to buy one coin. The man I spoke to quoted a price that was $15 higher than I had been told on the phone. When I said this, he said the lower price only applied if I bought 2 coins. I told him I had been told on the phone that the price applied to quantities of 1-9, but he just shrugged. On principle I left without buying anything. It's one thing to charge too much, but it's another to pull a bait and switch by quoting one price on the phone and then refusing to honor it in store. Buyer beware if you decide to deal with them. read more

Yesterday was the second time my sisters and I visited Sam Sloat Coins. The first time we had hundreds of coins we found in our Mothers house. They checked them all, paid us for the ones we didn't want and gave a value to all regardless of whether we were selling or not. They told us to come back with our silver dollars and they would value them for us. That was yesterday. We had two different sales people and both were kind, respectful and patient. I highly recommend them. read more

I went into Sam Sloats with coins from my dads' collection that I had been holding onto for many years. I was unsure of the value and the sentiment of all the coins was weighing on me too. Pete worked with me and from the very start he put me at ease. I had gold pieces that I wanted to sell too. He was methodical in going over each and every piece and he explained the why and wherefore of each decision. I felt extremely comfortable and confident in his professionalism. By the time it was all over I was smiling and quite satisfied with the end result. I can highly recommend Sloat as a place to sell your coins and jewelry and feel like you would be treated fairly and honestly. That is rare in today's world. read more

Strange vibe all around. Ok to deal with but you won't come out way ahead. Not a total rip off but not fantastic for the customer either. I like to get out fast, just get it over with like the dentist. An OK place to go to...not GREAT. read more

This place is exceptionally well run. The staff are friendly, highly knowledgeable, efficient with time, and generous with their knowledge. It Is no wonder that they have been in business for such a long time. They sorted through a collection of mine in about 30 minutes and wrote a very fair offer to purchase the coins (have validated elsewhere). The old negative reviews below are so out of keeping with the nature of the place that I have to wonder if they are real. If you Google the store, you can see how well organized and transparent the place is. read more
