Went for the first time for a girl's night out. It was a blast. We got a coach,Dean, and he was full of energy and made us feel comfortable (&safe). He cheered, used an announcer voice, and was just awesome. I can't wait to go again. Great idea for a work function too. I was intimidated but once I threw the first axe....I didn't wanna stop. I recently co-hosted a corporate event at this place. It was a huge hit. The staff was great, friendly and knowledgeable. They could use a larger liquor selection and more beers on tap, but overall a great experience. They give you plenty of instruction and practice. The only drawback to having a corproate event there is if you want to do a presentation before the axe throwing fun, make sure to schedule that portion to start a 4pm, before the public and other groups show up at 5pm. The sound of axes hitting wood combined with cheering and chatter can be overwhelming. This is small gripe and not really the fault of BATL. I would definitely do another corporate event at this place. If you're looking to do something "new" for a corporate event that's affordable and conveniently located for most in Houston, give this place a try. read more

Is there a 6 star option??? Imagine you're playing darts. Now imagine the dart board is 5 foot X 5 foot wide. Now imagine the darts are actually hatchet axes. Now you have BATL! We went last night with a group of 10 people all of whom, including myself, have never done this before. Most of us don't even own an axe let alone know how to accurately throw one. I set it up to be a surprise birthday party for my wife's birthday. This was the most fun we've had I a long time! From the beginning making reservations was easy. They were very communicative throughout the days to come about the safety concerns they have (closed to shoes, min age to throw, etc.). The whole process was lined out clearly. And let's be honest. We're throwing axes... it better be clear. Our instructor (I'm sorry I cant remember her name) was excellent. She was obviously an avid axe thrower. We made her throw an axe to prove it! She helped every one of us with as much individual attention as we needed until we felt comfortable enough to start the games. We played a round robin style tournament and surprise surprise, my wife the birthday girl, won the whole tournament! No, we didn't let her win, she got this all on her own. I lost all my matches . The facility was clean, the bar had simple but good drinks. The staff was incredibly friendly. The restrooms were clean. We had a ton of fun. Thank you Batl, we will be back! read more

This was such an amazing event. My first time at BATL. My first time throwing an axe. I'm not quite ready for the zombie apocalypse yet, but they sure did help start me in the right direction. The set up was simple and to the point, we're here to throw axes and hit the bullseye! I attended BATL as a yelp elite event, but I definitely see this as a place me and my friends will come back to and give it another go, hopefully next time I'll be on my A game, because this time I was just barely able to get my axe to stick to the target. Lol The staff was very helpful and friendly, also very encouraging even though I threw dud after dud. The coaching skills of some of the trainers could win championships in other sports, eventually I was able to get a few good shots in a row as I was urged to scoot closer and closer to the targets. Most importantly, I had lots of fun. This was a great way to meet other elites in the city, and also take some of the edge off from the real world and chunk and axe or 10 at a few 2x4 and not get in trouble afterwards. The crowd cheers usually whether you make the bullseye or miss completely, so you always feel like you're winning. I had a great time, and met some really cool people, I'd definitely recommend this place for a night of healthy competition to get some adrenaline pumping! read more

Came here for a private event and had so much fun! The staff - Ashley and Patrick - were both really helpful and gave great pointers during our axe throwing tournament. We also had time to practice between rounds too, which was a lot of fun. This place is great for events or even for small groups! Lots of parking too, which is always a plus. read more

This place was a blast; I'm so glad my group of friends tried it out. It doesn't really require much athletic ability, almost anyone could do it. It wasn't crowded (on a Saturday night) which was nice. The drinks are $5 and the staff were friendly and added to the fun. I docked one star only because it's pricey. My husband and I had a 12 hour layover in Houston. This was our big outing before heading back home to brazil. I'm addicted. The place looked abandoned from the outside but inside is decorated with a downtown modern vibe. The place was filled with of seasoned competitors, a company bonding event and us, the amateurs. Ashley did a great job walking us through our instructions. Even after performing a crazy ass tournament of her own, she managed to stay energetic and engaging. We learned how to throw a pick ax, fireman's ax and tried our hand in a trick ax method. Great experience! Went here with my wife and another couple after dinner. We got there around 9:30 and had the place to ourselves. I forgot the name of the guy that helped us, but he was awesome - he took us step by step through the entire process and got us all throwing on target within 20min. We came for a 12:00 appointment and were not disappointed. The coach was extremely helpful and stayed with us the entire time. She even facilitated our "tournament"- although she was clearly biased towards my wife, lol (I think she was just cheering for the person with the lower score)! It was an awesome experience and we both enjoyed ourselves very much. The bar tender was equally attentive, talking to me about the music selection and asking what I would like to hear! It had a wonderful atmosphere and the employees made us feel like we were really in someone's backyard hanging out and having a great time. SCAM! This place is a complete scam if you're wanting to actually book a "premium event" per their website. We paid $350 for a premium event of 8 people. Upon arrival no one knew what was going on. An hour had passed before we actually got started, and the manager claimed he gave us an hour free. (Including moving part of our group to a different party on accident) We ended up having to share lanes with another group (even though the website says that only applies for groups 2-5). For $41 a person, you only get to throw an ax 3 times. The rest of the time is spent watching strangers in your lane. Additionally, on the website it says you will have a waiter and can order food. False. You have to preorder 24hrs in advance. There is no food on site. Otherwise you have to have a "plating fee" if you order from outside. When I complained to the manager he paid for a drink and told me to "talk to the Canadians". Awful experience for $350. I will be calling "the Canadians" in the morning. DO NOT GO HERE, there are many other places much better for your event. Instructor was friendly. Manager was rude and arrogant. read more

We had a company team building event at BATL for about 35 of us and we had a great time. The staff (Dean, Allison, Seth and Ryan) handled this large group very professionally. The care given to instruct us on the techniques and the safety matters resulted in a very beneficial event. The organization of the competition tournament went off very smoothly and the use of large monitors to display the scoring was excellent.
