Have been local in the area for a little while now and I don't normally have complaints but tonight kinda topped the cake. Previous experiences I've had no problems until tonight. I don't mind on waiting a little bit over the estimated time for a pizza delivery but tonight was disappointing. I waited 45 minutes for my pizza (mind you it was a personal cheese pizza) only for it not to show up 45 minutes more after the estimated time. I wouldn't have gotten so worried about it but it's ridiculous when they hang up on you the first time and you have to call back twice more only for them to finally answer. Despite the frustration I kindly asked when I'd get it. The plus side to the delivery was that after the call that it arrived within 15 minutes, not even by a delivery driver but by one of the waitresses, which she was very sweet!!! Thank you again!!! However, on the cooks end, the pizza could have been a bit better. Wasn't as fresh as I'd expected for being right out of the oven supposedly just 15 minutes ago. Thus being said, I can't say for certain I'll order again from Batavia's Original anytime soon. Very disappointed. read more

I should have gone with my gut when the first time called was left on hold for 5 minutes. I hung up and called back 15 minutes later. The waitstaff was friendly, which is about all I can say for it. We ordered garlic knots which we so greasy and tasteless we couldn't finish them. They served meat sauce with it, which was a bit odd. We then had calzones, my husband had a pepperoni calzone that had way too much sauce on it. The dipping sauce tasted like ketchup. I had the veggie calzone, too much onion, not enough cheese. But the real issue with both calzones and the garlic knots was the quality of the bread and the amount of grease. It also took over an hour to get our pizza, on a night that was not busy. read more

Pizza Only Review: I've only had pizza here and I've only ever ordered out. I love this pizza and would give 5 stars but I'm giving a 4 because it's not always consistent. I'd say at least 1 of 5 times there's something "off" (too yeasty, not fully cooked, too much seasoning). But I keep going back because it's the best pizza I've had the other 4 of 5 times. Stopped here on my way to Rochester. Crispy crust and great taste, will now be a popular stop when I go to Rochester. Also had mozzarella sticks that were better than the norm. Just be careful, the service is hit or miss; the servers are young, and some of them are not as attentive or conscientious as they should be. Formerly Pontillo's, Batavia's Best to my palette, is the same recipe. People say this is different than Pontillo's was, but the dough and toppings are exactly as I remember them being for decades. I came here today for lunch with Joley B, from Rochester. I decided to get the lunch buffet, she got soup and salad. The interior dining area was not crowded, very quiet, and on the cold side. Our waitress was really nice, so was the hostess. Eventually I made my way up to the pizza buffet. If I were them, I would invest in a true buffet set up, preferably with a sneeze guard, not just pizzas under heat lamps. We got there around 12:30, and some items (the pizzas, and star of the show) were already cold. This was very disappointing. The pizzas were also the same 4 or 5 for the entire time I was there. I get that there weren't many people eating then, but maybe make smaller pizzas? Or half something, half another so there are more toppings options. The buffalo chicken pizza was GREASY. I took one bite and discarded it. Inedible to me. The white broccoli spinach was my favorite. Along with the cheese pizza. I actually love the red sauce on the pizza. It is quintessentially Batavia pizza sauce, sweeter in taste but the cheese and grease melt all together with the sauce and it's so uniquely delicious! So good! The wings were good. I only had the BBQ, but they were meaty and tasted good, though merely warm not hot. The salad with ranch dressing was my favorite part of that buffet. Very good ranch, nice lettuce mix with good stuff in it- great tomato wedges, chick peas, green pepper, shredded cheese, red onion, some olives. Yum! They also had 2 pasta options- fettuccine Alfredo and penne parm. I tried the fettuccine and it was okay. Needed salt. Nice big drinks here too. I only got water with lemon but I love that it's a big honkin' cup not just some little courtesy cup, being that it's only water. I've been here a few times before over the years and am so glad that this is still an establishment in Batavia! The last time we went the food was great but the services was horrible!! The place was empty but we stood at the podium for five minutes before anyone sat us, then another 10 for drinks. It was 45 minutes before we got our food. Did I say it was empty- like maybe five table had people. And then we sat there waiting for our bill as our waitress walked past several time before she realized we were staring at her to get her attention. As a native a Batavia, of course I love pizza, but Batavia's Original is the best and compares to none other, the history is literally on the wall. Over the years, I've tried a couple of different styles, but the original crust, original sauce with cheese is my standard. It's fresh, filling, and fantastic. It's the best Italian food I've had in a long time. But beyond that, the staff is the nicest and most hospitable ever. They treat you like family. We stopped on the way to Rochester, NY. The sign stating they have been open since 1947 drew our attention, The inside is very simple, booths and picnic tables. We were starving. I ordered the Steak and Cheese sub. Tim had the Meatball and Sausage Calzone. My sub was fabulous. The roll was soft but had a crustiness to it. The steak and cheese was cooked perfectly. I quit coming here a few years due to poor service and horrible management. I decided to give it another try now that it has a new owner. It was a sunday evening, I ordered online for pick up, and was given a 15 to 30 minute pick up. I arrived at the 30 minute mark, and they were a little busy, but not crazy. I waited another 30 minutes in the waiting area. The owner was helping and putting together orders. I finally got my food, and rushed home to my hungry family. I was missing my garlic knots appetizer. My steak wrap was extremely greasy and my husbands chicken parm was dry and very bland. Spaghettios have more flavor. Being from the Buffalo area, you'd think that this place would take pride in their wings. The wings were very small and full of the black veins. They were a little pricey so I thought I'd take a chance and was very unsatisfied. I would recommend ficcerellas if you plan on having decent food here in Batavia. Stopped in for lunch twice now and each time the service was great and the food was excellent! My spouse had the Bambino which was a personal pan pizza and 5 bone in wings with a large soda. Well the pizza was big enough for 2 people and the wings were cooked to perfection. I had the lasagna which could have served a small family...it came with a chef salad and garlic bread....all in all, it was a feast! Tony, who prepared our meals and served us told us that the sauce was his family's recipe with a little twist of his own. Our Mother's Day celebration was ruined by going here & we will never go back. We had reservations for 5:30pm but all tables were given to others who did not have reservations. We had to stand by the door (with freezing air coming in) for over 35 minutes with my 96 year old mother. The crowds congested in this one area, people coming in and waiting, people going to and from the buffet tables, it was totally disorganized and chaotic. My mother can barely stand and was in much pain & fearful the people were going to push her down. We finally were sent to the very back in a corner where the waitress basically ignored us. We asked twice for napkins and never got them, she never came to refill our drinks, etc. I flew over 1,000 miles to spend Mother's Day with my elderly mother and it was seriously the worst time we have ever had in a restaurant. The place was a zoo. My mother and I ordered small pizzas from the menu (because she could not maneuver around the crowd to get to the buffet). The pizzas came after our party had 2 plates of food from the buffet. They were finished by the time we got our pizzas, which were burned so badly that we could eat only the insides. Money & time wasted. We could have chosen any place to have a nice dinner but family chose this place and, because of this choice, our day was totally ruined & destroyed. We ordered a large cheese and pepperoni pizza thick crust. which was ok but the problem we had was you CHARGE for the PEPPERONI any place else in Batavia ITS INCLUDED, but not you guys you charged 2.50 for pepperoni. what is pizza with out pepperoni!!!!! i can see charging for the others like mushrooms, onions ect. but the first topping. Don't waste your time or money. Went there on a Monday afternoon about 3 pm. We had a party of 4 adults. There were exactly 2 other customers in the place and they were at their tables and had their food. We placed our order and seated our selves at a booth. There were no servers or table service. Three of us ordered a personal size pizza, nothing fancy and one of us ordered a submarine sandwich, again, nothing fancy. It took longer than it should have for the food to arrive and when it did only 2 of the 4 orders came to the table. About 5 minutes later the third personal pizza arrived and it took almost ten minutes more before the submarine sandwich arrived. The three in our party that ordered the pizzas said they were satisfactory but nothing to brag about. The submarine sandwich was a hot submarine, a royal, the Italian sausage was not the usual patty but a sausage link and it was cold. The roll, which was toasted as it was supposed to be was more like a brick than a toasted roll. The staff that the orders were placed with and that brought the food to the table acted as if they couldn't care less if you were there or not. We eat out often and you can rest assured that we won't EVER return to this establishment again. read more

A co-worker of mine suggested that I grab a slice of pizza for lunch from Batavia's original. I haven't been there since it was Pontillo's. The plus: the pizza slices are HUGE, and for a decent price. The downside is that I waited about 15 minutes after paying to get a slice when there were slices ready, and to me, it wasn't the greatest tasting either.
