Unexpected but enjoyable dinner at the casino! I stopped into fortunes on the way home from western…read moreNY and was pleasantly surprised. For a steakhouse in a small town i didn't have high expectations. My server Red was very lovely, checking in often and being very helpful. The hostess was also nice and the restaurant itself was nice, and surprisingly not too loud considering it's inside of the casino and was relatively packed during most of my meal. By no means the best steakhouse I've ever visited, but my steak was cooked nicely, my appetizer was good, my drink was potent but pretty well made. Only thing a little lacking were the sides. Mashed potatoes tasted over processed and like they've been sitting under a heat lamp and veggies were covered in seasoning but somehow still lacked any flavor. Neither were "bad" but just not up to par for a steakhouse, when good/great ones usually have very well executed sides typically. Spinach and crab dip was good and was huge! Herb butter on steak was nice, as well as a tasty tobacco onion topper. Their bread rolls are somewhat basic with a little Parmesan on them. Ordered cream brûlée as well and it was good (ate at home and held up pretty well). If you're craving steak and are nearby, worth a visit.

They have two sides of the restaurant with takeout on one, and dining on the other. The dining room is gorgeous and has such a great vibe to it. It feels upscale, yet cozy. My sister and I took our mom out to dinner and picked this spot since it's closer to her than us…read more None of us had been before, so we were going in blind. When we walked in, another customer was raving about the food and telling us how much we'd enjoy it, which honestly made me feel a lot better about trying somewhere new in an unfamiliar area. The vibe is like a bar turned restaurant, dark and a little moody but not off-putting. My mom even got a cutesy leprechaun margarita, which made her smile. We started with 10 mild wings for the table, my sister got a Caesar salad and said the dressing tasted homemade, and this is where I tried French onion soup for the first time. It was okay, just really salty. My mom ended up finishing it, but I did like that the cheese layer wasn't too heavy. I'm still on the hunt for a French onion that really does it for me. I didn't get pictures of the mains, but my mom and I both got steak, I had mashed potatoes and she got a baked potato. My sister got the fettuccine alfredo and marveled at the flavor. She kept saying you can tell it's a local spot and not a chain just by the care put into it. My steak was good, nothing crazy but you really can't go wrong. The mashed potatoes were a little bland but still edible. My mom loved her meal and finished everything, while my sister and I both had leftovers. The only downside was the service. Our waitress wasn't very friendly, kind of impatient and a little passive aggressive, like we were bothering her just by being there. Given the lack of diversity in the area, it didn't completely surprise me, but it was still noticeable. We didn't let it ruin the night though. Overall we still enjoyed it and I'd go back if I'm ever in Batavia again. Reasonable prices, solid food. Taking everything into account, I'd give it a 6.9/10.

Oh how the mighty have fallen! I remember when this restaurant was opened by "Alex" and it was…read morefantastic. I knew Alex by mutual acquaintance and growing up in the same small town. He was a professional restaurateur who was paid to sit with celebrities at the posh places he worked in South Florida in the 70s. Whatever else is said, the man had high standards in food and dining experience. When he opened, and for years after the place was always packed and very popular. The food was high quality and your meal came with 2 sides, salad, hot bread and nice presentation at a reasonable price. Alex left the business several years ago and the current owner has run it for some time. Today was my first time back in several years. The outside looks dated and needs a refresh. I almost thought it was closed. It was 2:30pm on Saturday before Mother's Day and almost empty. I don't recall it ever not being full of people waiting at the bar for a table. Until today. The decor is ok although I don't care for the fringe lamps directly over your head. I was going to get ribs but decided on 10 oz prime rib ($32.00) comes with 1 side (I chose baked potato - only sour cream and butter is offered). No salad unless you pay extra! The warm bread was fine with two kinds of butter. My companion had the Kids spaghetti $(8.99). My prime rib came out and it looked about half the normal thickness it should be and in a puddle of juice. Even the server commented about why the kitchen did that. And it was warm, at best. No horseradish or other condiments were offered. No garnish on the plate. Just a thin slab of meat. The juice should have been in a separate cup. But the small baked potato was steaming hot! My companion had a giant pile of spaghetti with about a 1/4 cup of sauce on top! Too little for the mound of spaghetti. And it looked like cheap jar sauce and no meatballs. She didn't mind but I wasn't thrilled. And her fountain drink did not come with the meal ($3.99)! I had a lavender lemon drop martini that was ok. ($10). Ultimately the food is mediocre and it feels like they are cutting corners to keep prices down. But that means it's no longer the special place it used to be. Sad.

We returned home last week for a visit and agreed to meet our cousins here. It is said that the pizza holds true to the Pontillo's recipe and cooking time, etc. We ordered 2 large pies, both covered with pepperoni and assorted vegetables. Our sad thoughts driving back to the hotel were in agreement: the sauce and cheese were tasteless, the vegetables had no taste and were mostly uncooked, and the dough was soft and chewy. That made us wonder about the flour and other ingredients being used. Tasted cheap. That's not the quality pizza we remembered and used to brag about in pizza arguments.
