Places like the original Amicos Pizza on waring road. Pizza that tasted like the recipes used, came straight from Italy. Many of the old skool places in western NY have this in common. I was camping at Hamlin Beach SP and ran into Hamlin for supplies. I saw this place on the way to…read moreTops so I figured I'll just order up some grub and called in an order. I ordered a large cheese and pepperoni pizza and a large Italian sub. The order was ready by the time we left Tops. I went inside to pick up the order and instantly regretted it. Talk about a dive. It just felt dated and cheaply thrown together. Anyways, I grabbed our order and headed back to our campsite. The pizza - bland, cardboard crust. Canned sauce, boring. Cheese and pepperoni fair. In high school, I would get cafeteria pizza that had more soul than this. I was tempted to give what wasn't eaten to the racoons, but I didn't want to give them gut rot. The sub - It was a fairly impressive looking sub, lots of meat and stuff. Well, heck. The sub roll was good. That is it. The meat (stacked high) was cheap, cheap, cheap, and lacked any flavor. I honestly don't know how you can have 3 types of meat that have no flavor. I asked for oil dressing, and I'm pretty sure I just got vegetable oil, and not some sort of sub dressing as normal. Oh and the creepy gun sign in the window is a turn off too. I carry, but geez, chill out.

We ordered the Caponata Bruschetta as a starter with our drinks. The other members of our family arrived shortly thereafter and our main orders were taken. My wife and I split the Special pasta of the day with Cauliflower. My father in law went with the Eggplant Parm with Angel-hair pasta. The place is fairly dated, but practical with lots of space. The 2 bartenders who also serve as waitresses were swamped. They are expected to do take out orders, in-house orders, drinks at the bar, and bringing food from the kitchen to tables simultaneously. I'm assuming they were understaffed. Service was slow, and we were fairly certain they lost our order for a while, because folks that came in after us were served first. Lots of take outs passed through, so again, I assume they were simply inundated with orders. Once we received our food, we were pleasantly surprised. The pizza was good (aside from my little pet peeve of cutting a round pizza into squares and triangles. Why?!?). I was raised Sicilian and I'm a crust snob. Their crust is flavorful, with a good texture and not too thick. Very nice. The hubs said the Turkey wrap was excellent, my and a friend's calzones were cooked beautifully (microwaving the sauce for 30 seconds instead of sending it out cold would have been nice), and my friend's BBQ boneless wings were SPECTACULAR. All-in-all it was a good experience. Everyone was friendly (even those poor waitresses), and when it slowed down a bit the cook came out to see if everything was okay. Good times all around!
