I came on Baskin-Robbins' 80th birthday*, and honestly, I didn't even know Baskin-Robbins had turned 80 until I got an email that morning advertising scoops for only 80 cents! Happy birthday Baskin-Robbins! 80 years is a long time, and I can only wonder how long ago we would have to travel back in time where three quarters and a nickel would be enough for one scoop of ice cream? First things first, don't get this location in Bixby Knolls Shopping Center on Atlantic confused with the other Baskin-Robbins in Bixby Plaza on Atlantic. They're about a mile and a half away from each other, but this location is the more northerly location. If you recall where the old Vons used to be before it closed for good, this Baskin-Robbins is just next door. As soon as I came in, I saw a handful of customers inside, much more than what I've seen compared to the other locations, but I suppose that's what 80-cent scoops will do. A line had formed by the freezers in the far corner holding pints of ice cream as well as ice cream cakes. There's an ice cream chest closest to the front door, but two chests closer to the back, so I'd recommend looking at the flavors in the ice cream chest closest to the front door once you come in. When it was my turn to order, I asked if this location would honor the 80-cent scoop promo, to which the female employee (Veachara?) answered affirmatively. I did have to go back and forth across the ice cream chests to decide what to order, but I'm glad she would offer samples of flavors that I was interested in. I was curious about the Gold Medal Ribbon, and while it was a great flavor to try, it wasn't one I was in the mood for at the time as I felt it was a bit too sweet. Maybe on a cheat day, but I wasn't planning to cheat that day lol. With a line forming behind me, I almost thought I would have been limited to one sample, so after the first sample of Gold Medal Ribbon, I simply said, "I'll try the Triple Mango", which did pique my curiosity as I love mangos, but recall how I despised mango froyo at a froyo shop just on the other end of the shopping center. Veachara asked if I was intending to sample or if that was my chosen flavor, and even though I was that close to choosing the Triple Mango, I decided to sample it first, though I still kind of felt bad that the other customers in line had to wait a little longer due to my indecisiveness. Compared to the lackluster froyo from a few years ago, this Triple Mango had a much more solid taste, but I wasn't sure where that third layer of mango was if that made sense. It's a good flavor that I'd recommend if you love mangos as well, but I really wanted to try the Cherries Jubilee, which I could actually see the cherry pieces inside the ice cream. After tasting my third sample, I decided that the third time was a charm and chose the Cherries Jubilee as my flavor of choice. It's not a No Sugar Added flavor, but I felt there was enough sugar to give it the cherry flavor my taste buds were seeking while not being too overly sweet at the same time. In addition to cherry, there is also a hint of rum flavor in the Cherries Jubilee. Since there was only one register on the front counter, I had to wait a while for the other employee to ring me up, even after I had chosen the Cherries Jubilee. When it was my turn to get rung up, I had to scan the QR code on my phone to redeem the 80-cent scoop reward. After paying the 80 cents, I went to the two-person table by the freezers to enjoy my scoop of Cherries Jubilee. Like I said, there was a sufficient amount of cherry flavor that satisfied my taste buds at the time, but it certainly isn't going to be the best tasting cherry ice cream. You'd probably have better luck at a mom 'n pop shop in the Pacific Northwest, where these cherries are sourced from. But for only 80 cents? Definitely worth trying if you love cherries! While I enjoyed the scoop of Cherries Jubilee, I do have to deduct a star because Veachara mentioned I could only get one scoop at that price, but after reading the fine print, I found out I could have gotten up to 6 scoops at that price! I was okay with getting just one, but I certainly would have considered getting 6 at that price! However, I was not given a lid, hence why I chose to eat my scoop there while everyone else took their ice cream to go. I would have loved to try 6 different flavors at the discounted price, not all at once, but over the course of that week. Nevertheless, I still recommend this Baskin-Robbins. Happy birthday again! Maybe in 5 years, they will have 85-cent scoops to celebrate another birthday milestone? Not as good as 80-cent scoops, but I'll take 85 cent scoops any day of the week in today's economy! * The 80-cent scoop promo happened in early December during which I went on a hiatus from posting reviews. one of the worst baskin robbin's, do not place an online order using any coupons because they will NOT give you your order. There is a deal going on about .80¢ scoops but DO NOT GO HERE. the manager here is rude as heck and she wont let you pick up your own order ALREADY PLACED. I wanted to redeem something but I placed an order online so I can go pick up and leave, when I get there my order wasn't made and the cashier was on the phone with the manager who told her not to give me my own order. Giving this place a 1 star cuhs I can't give a negative. For a whole month their "WiFi" is down meaning you can't scan awards or points okay that's fine. What they don't tell you, is when you were swiping your card during this time their system was "taking money out" so when their system finally comes back on, it charges my card 5X. I'm thinking it's fraud. I call and they tell me Rudely their system has been down and that's the reason for the multiple charges. My first time purchasing BR as an adult. The last time I tried their ice cream was in the 90s with my grandmother. I appreciated the many options!!! The store was clean, music was fun, and the employees were friendly. This is a really tiny location, but there are a few tables to enjoy your ice cream inside. I tried their Beach day flavor, and it was amazing. My only complaint is that the consistency is more like a milk tea rather than a milk shake. I got a small and it was gone by the time I got to my car. Maybe it's preference, but I like my mom shakes thick. I wanna work for it. I could have drowned in there's it was so liquidity. On Tuesday, August 18, I called around 9:35pm and no one answered the phone. We pulled into the parking lot about 9:42 and saw 2 workers inside... I went in and they were preparing to close but they stopped counting the money and helped me. I ordered a medium chocolate milkshake. The young man poured the milk and asked did you say large. I said no, why. He said he poured a little too much milk. I asked him if that was going to make my milkshake thin because I only like thick ones and he assured me it would be thick. I thought it would be extra thick sense I was asking so I gave him a $2 tip and a compliment. I took the shake, asked for a spoon cause I had dental work done and couldn't drink from a straw yet and I left. When I tried to eat my milkshake it was like a cup of milk. I called back but of course they didn't answer the phone. I called the next day and the manager was there but never came to the phone so I left my name and number. About a week later, I realized she never called me back and I called again and left my information a second time. Still no call... I was shopping in Vons on August 30 so I went to BR to see if the manager was in and she wasn't so I left my name and number a third time. She finally called me two weeks later on September 2. She stated that she had been working a lot of hours in the evening and it gets very busy. She said she also had to get the story straight from her line lead guy and he said The shake was thick and that I tasted it and was pleased... I assured her that was a lie! You can't even eat inside right now with the pandemic and it was late so I just wanted to get out so they could finish closing everything up... Then she started telling me how people come back a week later with complaints and said she can't do something for everyone who complains and that there was nothing that she could do for me. I was totally shocked and I told her other people weren't my concern and it took her 2 weeks to call me back because I called right away and the next day. I told her that I would not patronize that location again and she said she didn't want to lose me as a customer so she offered me a free scoop on my next visit. I told her I didn't purchase a scoop and that they were calling me a liar so what she offered wasn't good enough. She assured me there was nothing more she could do. I tried not to hype this one up too much in my head, but we finally made it to a BR and I gotta say, it was worth the trip to try this fresh take on my beloved Cookies 'n Cream ice cream. First off, it looks great and it tastes super fresh. The neat thing is that this is still more or less cookies and cream but it has this nice caramel swirl that has salted peanuts buried in it. It totally rocks the classic CnC vibe while adding nice caramel undertones and then hits you with the salty peanuts here and there. It's really top notch stuff.I completely inhaled this double scoop bowl of ice cream before my daughter was even half way done with her bowl (and that was after slowing down on the last several bites). Just look at the nice gooey swirl everywhere. I really did expect the caramel to dominate but no, it supports and enhances, it wins the day for me. I also adore the mix of big soft Oreo chunks mixed in with tiny crumbs everywhere. It's the way you make Cookies 'n Cream, no exceptions. Man I love fresh ice cream. read more
