Usually when I go it is the younger daughter working and she is always very nice and friendly. The mother will sometimes be working who is also very polite but those are really the only two I ever see. No place to eat inside or outside since it's such a small spot but I'm usually just picking up bread for a snack or for my week's breakfast. Be sure to stop by if you're driving past Fillmore to try out the sweet flavor of Mexican culture.

The cakes were supposed to serve 70 people or so. We ended up having quite a lot of cake left- the entire round cake and maybe an eighth or so of the sheet cake. The round cake was pretty hard to cut due to the height so I think we should have had the venue slice this first - sheet cake was a lot easier to pack back up and transport. That sort of made me wonder if I should have even ordered a round cake but it was definitely stunning and added a lot in terms of aesthetics and looked great in pictures. Jess was great to work with and did a great job checking in when needed. I ended up sending her a design for the round cake and she made something really lovely. She also found some gorgeous real flowers for the cake and sent me all the different options so I knew what to choose from. She even ended up adding some details to the sheet cake even though these are often left plain just for serving. We had discussed not wanting the cake to be too sweet and I think it was probably a bit too sweet still for myself and most guests. The actual cake itself was perfect in terms of texture and also flavor and sweetness and was so much better than most if not all cakes I have had. However the buttercream texture wasn't my favorite and I found it to be a bit sweeter than expected. I also wanted there to be a lot more triple berry butter cream/berry flavor. Some of the issue was also deciding to add a white chocolate layer (our suggestion so definitely on us) which didn't help the texture or flavor. Ultimately a solid cake and the vanilla bean cake itself was pretty spectacular. If I order again in the future, I would just discuss ways to make the outside buttercream less intense and find ways to incorporate more of the fruit flavors of the berry buttercream filling. A bunch of guests did ask me about the cake and say they enjoyed it so that was good. I did shop around a small amount and the prices were competitive. I had a very positive experience overall. The cakes were also easy to pick up and well packaged - if you have some kind of large flat surface like a foldable seat or back of an SUV you should be good. I would definitely order again for a party but probably would opt for even fewer portions and would make those notes about the flavors.

Of the responses that I received, Josel's stood out head and shoulders above all others for multiple reasons: 1. Josel was the only baker who wanted to ensure she fully understood what I was looking for and she actually provided me with a drawing/rendering of what I had in mind to confirm I was getting what I wanted - this was before I even made the decision to use her 2. I knew I was communicating directly with the owner/person who would be executing my vision - not the case with many others 3. Josel was still the most competive quote among all others, even though I could tell from what I saw on her IG account that her quality was better than most. Once I made the decision to use Josel, the experience only got better. It became clear that she really has a love and passion for what she does that surpasses this being a business for her. She touched base with me multiple times and scheduled to meet me several days before making the cake to pick up some of the custom elements that were needed for it. The morning of the day I needed it, she sent me photos and delivered it directly to the restaurant where it would be served, ensuring they would take great care of it. The photos of the cake speak for themself - it exceeded my expectations and the "birthday boy" was absolutely speechless over it. I've used multiple custom bakers over the years and my experience with Josel was the best I have ever had.

I found Sheryl through a combination of Google and Yelp when planning my daughter's first birthday at Underwood Farms. This party was more complex than my wedding to plan, but it all came together at the end. Doing this custom cake and cookie order was probably the easiest part of everything. I sent a few inspo photos, as the theme was "Holy Cow, I'm One", and I wanted a very specific shade of baby pink with cow print. The two tier cake was perfect, Sheryl even tried to tell me that the cake size I was ordering sounded too big for my guest count, but of course, I insisted on a nice big cake. Which she definitely delivered. Sheryl actually delivered the cake herself, and was perfectly on time and helped set up the cake/cookies. Leftovers were plenty which came in handy because the cake was amazing. Because the party was in June, and at a farm, basically; I was really praying the weather gods would have mercy, but they did not. It was SO hot, like 89 though in the shade. The cake held up amazingly, even being frosted with buttercream; it help it's shape and mold until we sang. Cutting the cake was super easy as well, because it was not dry. So moist, frosting was soft, and not too sweet. The "not too sweet" was key for all my asian friends/relatives; it's probably the biggest compliment a Chinese mom can ever give. "Cake was wonderful, not too sweet" sent me over the moon from our guests. The pink iced cow sugar cookies were SO damn cute, I should have ordered more thinking 60 would be enough but people were taking 2-3 each. The cookies themselves were firm to hold the icing design, but soft, buttery, flavorful. I cannot say enough about the cake and cookies! For context, because we live in LA County, though I REALLY wanted to order from Sheryl again for my daughter's second birthday last year, I made the mistake of using a different baker that was closer to home. Terrible. It was dry, unflavorful. I think we are spoiled by how good the cake and cookies were from Sheryl. I actually gave the product away on Buy Nothing because I could not bring myself to want any leftovers. For her third birthday this year though, I am BACK to the queen. I just placed our order for cake and cookies, and I cannot wait to enjoy Sheryl's creations again. Things to call out because they were important to me, and surprisingly many bakers/bakeries do NOT offer (I spoke to about 15 places when I was initially planning): -delivery for small fee, it is SO convenient to have the order delivered rather than fear of it toppling over in my car or dropping it during transportation and one less thing you have to worry about -even with how elaborate and detailed her cakes are, she doesn't use fondant (I HATE fondant for a variety of reasons), and uses buttercream! -prices are incredibly reasonable, for the product, flavor, quality, and professionalism from Sheryl, especially multi tier cakes. Thank you again for making such special memories for my family and I; I really do believe that the food/dessert/cake offered at events are the most memorable, by far. And you have a client for life, even though we live a county away :)
