Came in here today after searching on yelp for ice cream recommendations, what caught my attention was there was outdoor seating. As soon as you walk in your greeted by the staff, I didn't get the name of the girl who took care of us, but she had colored eyes, she could be a bit more friendly and a smile wouldn't hurt her. Seriously bad customer service. I went in for a quart & treated myself to a kid-size scoop cone. Almost $10, but my choice to spend it. I got about 20 feet outside before the bottom of the cone fell off; it was broken inside the paper. I turned right around, went back in & asked for a new cone. The guy plops my broken cone upside down on top of another & asks if I can eat it like that. Um, no. I cannot walk with my shopping bag, dog & eat that cone. He's puzzled because I already ate part & he can't get what's left out of the cone. I took one lick. Literally. I wasn't looking for an extra lick of free ice cream. The woman working told him to put my same scoop on a new cone, which he did. It was a ridiculous way to do anything not to have to "give" a scoop away. So on super bowl Sunday, I decided to treat my son to BR considering KC was winning and I was all for Mahomes anywho, my son and I entered the facility and there was three employees. On flipping plastic over a pan, the other playing around with the blending machine and another texting on her phone. When the employee finally decided she would greet and ask for our order I asked "are y'all really that busy?" I was simply surprised that they all acted as if we weren't in the store. And this employee took my queues too personally because she went on and on with her associate saying how when a person is t "already there" there's no point to engage but at this point I was completely silent and not saying a word. She obviously felt some type of way. Seconds later, a Caucasian male walked in and within in seconds he was greeted and served. I begged in conversation with my son and this same employee, eager to chime in still proceeded to talk loudly and try to make an excuse for her inability to serve customers paying for ice cream. A Hispanic family came in, and I guess to prove their point they decided to just greet them and tell them they would help shortly. This was to show that not all customers get service automatically but of course it was a family of color who needed to be apart of the example. It's 2023, consumerism means paying money for a product and receiving that product or service, in alameda, CA at Blanding Ave Baskin Robbins you will not be met with the same respect as your white counterparts if you are a person of color. I have been living here for over 15 years and coming to this Baskin Robbins since my son was 5, he is now 10, and I will drive to a different location every time just to make sure I never support ignorant, racist employees who use "being busy" as an excuse when all you have to do is simply scoop ice cream in a cup or cone. Be wise when you come to this location with your family as a person of color. I haven't been here in years but was able to come back after a CUTE MARRIED girl took me here after dining at the best sushi restaurant in all of the bay area. I had the Cappuccino Blast. Unfortunately, after ordering an ice cream cone with my kids we went out to look out over the water where the boats dock and as we glance down all the pink spoons (pictured) were laying on the ground between the metal fence and the ocean. They could arrive there by any means, natural wind, leaf blower, child dropping the spoon etc. The point is we have to take this serious. It comes from Baskin Robbins, they are responsible. I am asking they change there tasting spoons and large spoons to a compostable wood. They exist!!! Yes they do and most people would be impressed that they saw a concern and addressed it. Can you imagine all the plastic spoons that blow off into the water and that are sitting on the ocean floor directly next to Baskin Robbins. If you are concerned about this, put in a complaint to Customer Service(1-800-444-1890) say it's environmental and ask for change and wooden spoons. I was also told that I would probably not get a call back so that's why I am expressing my dissatisfaction on the issue. The lady working there seemed to care and together we saw CA sea-lions swimming through the water. The guy shrugged us off and didn't seem to care:(. Be weary if you are paying with plastic here. I recently took the family in for ice cream one day, and our total came to $12.66. While checking my bank account online later, I saw a second charge from this location for $10.56. I brought my receipt into the shop, and showed it to an employee there, along with showing her the second charge on my phone through the bank's website. She was able to research charges from that day, and did find a charge for $10.56 in the system, albeit to another card. She spoke to the owner, Grace, over the phone, and told me that they'd look into it. I left my original receipt, and allowed the employee to take a screen shot of the two charges from the online statement. They have the best selection of flavors, and the location is convenient for me since I come to Alameda often. My favorite flavor is Mint Chocolate Chip. The "assistant manger" ignored my whole family while we were obviously next in line. She helped other people before us, then yelled in our faces, "I'll take whoever's next!" When I told her that she had already helped other people before us, she said that we should have yelled at her that she was skipping us. Don't get me wrong, the variety here is excellent, they offer tons of options that appeal to people from all walks of life, but I just have a hard time paying almost $4 for a simple mix of heavy cream, ice, and rock salt; especially when I can make a trip to Tucker's on Park St. and get a high quality scoop of homemade ice cream for the same price. Their Classic Flavors are good, especially Mint Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Oreo Cookies n Cream, Jamoca Almond Fudge, and Cherries Jubilee. My favorite Seasonal Flavors are Winter White Chocolate and Love Potion #31. When it comes to their beverages, I enjoy their Oreo n Cookies Cappuccino Blast, Mint Chocolate Chip Shake, and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Shake. I have been visiting this store for over a decade, before I entered college. Now, I bring my children to visit our favorite ice cream store. What can I say, this is our favorite to be! The staff is always friendly. The place is warm and welcoming. The ice cream flavors plentiful and the CAKES selections are TOPS. I definitely recommend this place.
