Hot Chicken Plate
Ploy N.

Some of the better hot fried chicken I've tried! Love how their sauce is not buffalo and was actually delicious on top of being spicy. The hot chicken plate came with two juicy thighs, fried fresh to crispy perfection on top of two toasty milk bread slices. Definitely a great post-drinking food. Staffs were so efficient too, churning out fried chickens throughout a busy weekend night. A super fun and energetic spot for late night grubs!

Have been wanting to try this spot for a long time and I have to say the hot chicken sandwich did not disappoint. Definitely on the heavy side though. It's in a cluster of other restaurants as well so you can make a food adventure out of it if you bring a date or some friends. Highly recommend! Service is at the counter. Mainly outdoor seating. Bring a jacket! Portland can be cold.

Was craving a fried chicken sandwich and this hit the spot! Great texture and flavor and a lot more sandwich than I was expecting (in a good way!). The fried chicken was so good, though I wish I'd gotten it spicy (I like everything spicy.. next time) and the Dan Dan fries were really good, I wish they'd had a little more kick in the spice department but again that's just me. Quick friendly service and I love the open seating, lots of other fun restaurants to try, can't wait to return!

Basilisk is a STAPLE of this NE Sandy neighborhood, located inside what is locally known as "the Zipper" building, home to several food vendors and the bar Paydirt. I have visited this spot many times over the years and the Basilisk food quality and service remains consistently good over nearly a decade of patronage. The patio at the zipper is perfect for a spring lunch date with your bestie. I order my chicken sando first and then grab a drink at Paydirt while I wait! Service is always great at Basilisk and the fried chicken is the kind you think about days later.

The service was quick and easy. They bring out the food to your table with the number they gave you. The sandwiches are massive! It can be easily shared as two sandwiches! The fries are also shareable with that Szechuan pepper kick and pickles and cilantro mix - AMAZING. The Zipper is a shared space so it is welcoming! Will be back to try other foods!

Delicious spot to have a spicy fried chicken sandwich. Solid fries, dog friendly, though they don't have dog options on the menu, they did offer to not salt the fries I was getting the dog. Super awesome service.

Checking in for the first time! Grabbed an IPA from Pinetop while waiting on a fried chicken sandwich. Cool vibes!

The cashier was very helpful and courteous!! Watching her dealing with other customers revealed the same cool attitude!! Now to the food: I purchased the chicken sandwich with crispy fries. Literally, the best fried chicken sandwich I've had so far at any restaurant. Huge serving with two perfectly fried pieces of scrumptious chicken. I'm not big of a chicken, but this is definitely one of the things that I will come back time and time again. My wife, who loves chicken will love this place! I had no idea that this place even existed and that there is like three or four restaurants within the same complex. Pretty dang cool!! Might be coming here for the next couple weeks while I'm visiting. The beer was really on point as well. The surrounding area kind of looks suspicious, but nobody seemed to bother or be bothered by anybody. I'm gonna make this one of my top visits while in Portland!!

Pretty decent Fried chicken sandwich. Very crunchy and decent. Nice outdoor space, shared with the other restaurants in the zipper. I have seen a lot of good reviews of this place but felt like the chicken wasn't as impressive to me. The fried part was a bit too oily for me and it felt as though the fried chicken was three pieces of thin meat and not as much chicken. It also felt like my fried chicken was left in the fryer a little too long. It could've just been the day. It's nice that they had hot sauce at the bar that you could easily choose from, though the labels were a little hard to read. The service was really nice though and helpful.

The first sun is out and if you wanna have a good chicks outside basilisk is one place to go. For the first time I'll tried their salad with fried chicken. They also offer a vegetarian version with fried tofu. The chicken was perfect as always the salad is a mix of greens with a boiled egg and ramen noodles. Interesting and filling. Definitely small menu but worth a bite!

Great chicken sandwich, the crunchiest I've ever had. The restaurant is in a building with a few other eateries: A pizza place, Taco place and a Boba/ Banh Mhi place. You order at the front and take a number. Indoor and outdoor seating with a fire pit.

Still coming back. Staff kills it every time, always good if not better each time. Best chicken in town. Warm fire outside. Get your hard drinks next door. Please bring a food truck or second location to Gresham. You guys would crush it out there.

I prefer their scrumptious fried chicken in their salad versus the difficult to eat sandwhich.

Ask the Community - Basilisk

Is the fried chicken batter gluten free/is there anything gluten free on the menu?

The fried chicken is not gluten free.

Is outside seating dog friendly?

Yes

Do they have beer?

I think they have a very limited selection but it doesn't really matter because all of the places at the Zipper are situated around a common seating area and you can always get food from one or more places and beer and cocktails from Paydirt.

So I tend to avoid super hyped places because the quality usually ends up lacking as the popularity…read moregrows...but I do love a good chicken sandwich, and we've been curious for a few years; so come Thursday night after a long shift, I decided to order takeout. With delivery and tip, our total was about $79...which seems steep, but realistically their "sliders" are about the size of a standard Popeyes chicken sandwich with a HUGE piece of chicken. We got 4 sandwiches, fries, mac and cheese and the five piece mozzarella "slabs" (they're not sticks lol), plus I ordered a large ranch and Dave's sauce (like a better version of Chic-Fil-A sauce) and a small hot honey and Reaper ranch...so price pretty standard for the amount of food. The food traveled well and these were literally the best chicken sandwiches we've had. Chicken was juicy and crispy and a dry season that was insanely good. Slaw was crunchy and pickles were tangy. I added hot honey and Dave's sauce to mine and they were amazing. Fries are standard crinkle cut, but well seasoned and crispy. Mac and cheese was good, pretty much the exact kind you'd want as a kid...gooey and Kraft like flavored but with shells and a little wetter. Mozzarella "sticks" were good, I got them in Mild and if anything they were seasoned with the same seasoning they use for the chicken and very good, but surprisingly a bit too salty for me...I'd probably stick to the sandwiches and the fries to be honest. OKAY, but for the HEAT LEVELS: I debated for a while on which to order because I'd say we have a decent spice tolerance...like habaneros are my favorite, but I find them spicy. Buldak ramen is hot as heck, but manageable. To be safe, I got us each a Mild and Medium the first time and we noticed very little variation between the two, and maaaaybe a small spice kick on the back end with the Medium. That being said, we both agreed we'd like a little extra spice next time and considering the jump between Mild and Medium was so minimal, we figured Hot or Extra Hot would be good for us. WE WERE SO WRONG. We ordered again on Sunday. Two Hot sandwiches and one Extra Hot to share...and I highly recommend ordering either of those if you enjoy pain, anguish, are looking to smell colors and taste sounds; because I'm pretty sure we both almost simply passed away. I used half a large container of Dave's sauce on my Hot sandwich as well as an ungodly amount of honey...and by the time the tears in my eyes cleared I realized my fiance was just walking laps through the house in between bites. The flavor is still there, but at what cost? About 20 minutes after eating we both resigned to carrying the fireball in our stomachs to lie down and wait to succumb to our choices, only to awake 4 hours later with hiccups and burps that would make a fire breathing dragon envious. Just be warned if you like spice, you won't find it in the Medium except for at a totally normal amount, if you love spice...you'll find it and then hate that you did at the Hot or above amount. Suffice to say, we'll be returning often...or ordering (whatever)...but we're sticking to Medium even if that makes us wimpy. And if you know someone who chooses Extra Hot or Reaper for enjoyment, you should not only fear them, but get a restraining order...because something ain't right if you can enjoy that. And if you're chaotic like us and STILL want to try a higher spice amount, do yourself a favor and just order a single tender first to try the different levels so you can enjoy your meal fully without being surprised at how one level can increase the spice by 1% and then the next somehow jumps it up 50%. I wish there was a way to get a Medium-Hot one, but I'd still rather take the less spicy, more flavor. Anyways, perfectly cooked chicken, fast service and I'd highly recommend!

Overall, I thought it was decent, but personally it didn't really stand out from some of the other hot chicken spots around. The chicken was crispy and juicy, fries were solid, and the heat level had a nice kick without overpowering everything. Good food overall, just not something that personally blew me away. What really stood out though was the customer service. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The restaurant was clean, the food came out quick, and the atmosphere had a fun energy to it. One thing my wife and daughter really enjoyed was the cheese sticks. That cheese pull was actually super satisfying and probably one of the highlights of the meal for us Definitely one of those moments you almost have to record before taking a bite. Would I come back? Probably if I was nearby and craving hot chicken, but for me it was more of a solid casual spot than a must-have destination. Still worth trying at least once if you haven't been before.

When I saw someone working so hard by themselves, I felt for her and still wanted to support her with our patronage even with a bit of a long wait. -I ordered the Beef Noodle Soup, which is different from the Thai Boat Noodle. It had a clearer broth and was delicious. 10/10! -Because I ordered beef already, hubs order the Thai Boat Noodle w/ Pork and chose the thinner vermicelli noodles. This broth is so different from any of the beef Thai boat noodles I've ever had, but also delicious. If you can pack your patience and have the time, I'd say giving Gow Pont's a visit is worth it. We saw it while exploring Division Street earlier in the day and came for a late dinner before closing. It's a quaint restaurant with some funky decor, but the owner said the secret to her broth is that she also uses fermented tofu in it to give it that flavor.
