First time going to this restaurant and I have to say the service was excellent. Going above and beyond. We ordered Utica greens and tomato salad to start and chicken riggies for dinner. Both app were amazing along with the specialty drinks at the bar so I could not wait for dinner! Once it arrived it did not look like traditional chicken riggies. The noodles hardly had sauce on them and it just seemed like they threw peppers, oils and mushrooms into a pan and lightly "sauced" the bowl. Very very disappointing but if you're on a light diet this would be perfect for you! I would still go back just to try out another pasta and eat the apps again!! read more

Went to Basil Leaf for the 1st time tonight. Our server was very friendly. She read us the special and when I asked for suggestions she was able to tell me about a few of her favorites and customer favorite dishes. She brought out warm bread. Honestly for an itailian restaurant I was disappointed. It was very crusty and toasted. I would prefer fresh italian bread or just slightly warmed bread. The salad that came with dinner was delicious. A blend of greens with some kalamata olives. I got blue cheese dressing which was delicious but there was a little too much. I ordered the chicken picata. It was very good. The sauce was so flavorful. I sort of wish I had some fresh bread to dip in it. It was a good size plate with 3 pieces of chicken and plenty of huge fresh mushroom slices. For my side I got broccoli. It was just broccoli but when dipped in that picata sauce it was great. Went for a date night and knew I liked it immediately upon entering- it just had that vibe. When you walk in there is a big beautiful fireplace and nice big dimly lit bar. We were sat at a booth (I don't prefer booths at a nice restaurant, but it was fine.) Our server was friendly and funny and helped us a lot with the menu choices- she was very fun. I ordered the Red Zinfandel and the Filet Gorgonzola and he got the Veal Parmesan. We started with Utica Greens. The food was phenomenal overall. We ordered the greens hot which I highly recommend if you love heat. His veal was tender and delicious, and my filets were also very tender and very good. My filets were cooked to about medium rare when I ordered medium but I was ok with it. For dessert I had an espresso martini (I've been on an after dinner espresso martini kick and this one was one of the best I've had recently- perfection.) He ordered a chocolate cake AND a lava cake (lol) and they were ok- I would have preferred homemade desserts. Also they left my 2 empty wine glasses on the table until the end which deterred me from ordering a third- definitely empty glasses should be cleared. Overall very good experience and food. The wife ordered rigatoni with vodka sauce and I got Pollo Battista, a fried chicken breast covered in Utica Greens. We were given side salads before the meal. I got a Caesar and the dressing was great. Homemade and delicious. Fresh hot bread was brought as well, like most Italian restaurants. Our food was brought quickly and was delicious. The wife said her pasta was cooked perfectly. My dish was great. Lightly fried, not as all greasy chicken breast topped with spicy greens. I LOVE Utica Greens, so I absolutely loved this dish. Stumbled across this place after flying into Syracuse airport. Had lunch and ordered the chicken riggies and the Buffalo chicken sandwich. Both meals were very good. The riggies were medium spicy and very tasty with fresh veggies. The wrap came with chips or fries. My big complaint was that our server was not very friendly, and also was unhelpful. First, I asked about beer and leaned they have nothing on tap. Then I asked what bottles they have and instead of offering me the list she asked what I liked. When I told her wheat/Hefeweizen/white she said she did not have any but then when I starting asking for specifics it turns out they have blue moon. She had no idea about what they had and never offered any kind of drink list, beer or otherwise, even though her first question was what we wanted to drink. It was a baffling and annoying exchange. I will start this as I always do by saying that I don't give out five stars unless I am really blown away. We have wanted to try this restaurant for years. It is just a ways from home and never had anyone we go out with suggest it. I wish someone had suggested it sooner. Great ambiance. Open fire pit just inside when you walk in gives a nice feel to the place. Long bar right there after the fire place. The restaurant itself seems long and narrow but then turns a corner and gets a little more spacious. Very Italian feel to the place but not outdated in the way some other Italian places feel. Had a Manhattan at the bar. Bartender did a nice job. We were seated quickly and the waitress was very prompt. Ordered 3 appetizers for the table. We probably could have just eaten that and been good. The Utica Greens were the bomb. The calamari was nice and tender not over cooked and chewy. I had the 14oz Delmonico steak medium rare. Cooked perfectly. My better half had the Veal Francaise. She took a bite or two and said it was good but tasted like chicken. I looked it was chicken. I tried it to confirm and it was delicious. She didn't want to change it for the veal but let them know it was wrong. They offered many times to change it out for the veal. Told them no need it was very good and she was happy. Not worth the price! Do not order food to go because the portions are small, they don't give you your full order, and they give you stale bread. Wait staff also ignores you when you arrive for pickup and must be overworked because when you pay, they forget to bring you your change and then ask for payment after you already paid them. I was at the bar and watched as they opened the register with the cash! Food wasn't that great and there's plenty of Italian options in the area that are excellent. Went to basil leaf for the first and last time. Very poor service and extremely slow. Waited an hour for our main dish to be served to us. When it arrived it was either cold or barely warm. Asked for a manager non came over. Went to the bar with out check demanded to see a manager. When they finally came over and we explained our dissatisfaction with the service and meals they simply said "nothing we can do about it". They blamed the poor service and food on are party being too large. But when the reservation was made over a week ago nothing was said about it being too large. 15 people total in the party. Staff inappropriately dressed- one individual wearing workout leggings and hostesses wearing extremely short dresses.
