I was very disappointed with my meal. I ordered the shrimp Milanese and it was nothing like I expected. Shrimp was fried with a dab of cheese on top of each of 5-6 medium shrimp and linguine in the middle in a pool of butter/oil. The dish lacked in flavor and I question the recipe. I came with a large group of ladies and many of them were very satisfied with their meal. Maybe I picked the wrong thing but it was suggested by our waitress. The service was wonderful with our server giving us added attention. Ambiance was rather loud and the spaciousness of the room made it feel less cozy and more industrial. We had 7 pm reservations and were not seated until 7:30. Our waiter took our order. The appetizer and salads came quickly. But then we did not see him for at least 30 minutes. No one filled our water, no one asked if we wanted anything to drink or if our meals were ok. We still never saw our waiter. The bus boy took our leftovers to box and we told him we would like dessert and coffee. Parking was a hard to find. I originally left but not finding much in the area with good Yelp reviews I came back hoping they could squeeze one person in. This place is two restaurants in one. When entering you either go down stairs or up. Not knowing what to do I went down. It felt more like an old steak house than an Italian place but that's fine. It was clean but dimly lit which was again okay because it fit the look. Felt like places I would go with my dad. Service was amazing. Food was fresh. As a lifelong Syracuse native, he has fond memories of the original Joey's and the one that used to be in the 1000 Islands, so we were excited to try this new location. The food was genuinely tasty. We started with the calamari, which was crisp and flavorful--a great way to kick off the meal. The chicken riggies were outstanding, perfectly cooked with a rich, spicy sauce that hit all the right notes. Joey's clearly knows how to deliver on classic Italian flavors. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the food. I understand this is a new restaurant, but the staff seemed overwhelmed and disorganized throughout the evening. Despite noting on our reservation that it was a birthday celebration--and telling our server it was my grandfather's 95th--we were never offered a dessert menu after dinner. Instead, we were handed the check without any acknowledgment of the occasion. We would have gladly ordered dessert, but by then, the lack of attention had soured the experience. Disappointing Birthday Moment: As we were leaving, the hostess (who had been visibly stressed and running around all night) asked how our meal was. We mentioned the food was good but were disappointed that nothing was done to mark the birthday. Her response? "Well, you cannot make everyone happy." That snarky remark really summed up the amateur level of service we experienced. Joey's has the potential to be a great addition to the Syracuse dining scene, especially with its strong culinary foundation. But the service needs serious improvement--especially when it comes to hospitality and honoring special occasions. This is a review for the downstairs portion of the restaurant. I'd received mixed reviews from colleagues about Joey's, but since it was close to my hotel I decided to give it a shot one Wednesday evening. After stepping downstairs I was quickly seated at a 4 top in a dining room that was 3/4 full with dim lighting, dark wood, and some areas more private than others. The ambiance gives good romantic date vibes. My waitress quickly arrived with a menu and water. Bread arrived shortly after and I was ready to order having previewed the menu prior to driving over. Caesar salad, Chicken Parmesan with linguini, and a side of meatballs (added these based upon other reviews). The Caesar came out next on a cold plate (why is so hard to find a restaurant that does this anymore) the way it's supposed to and was fantastic. Perfectly aged Parmesan cheese with a delicious dressing. This was easily the best part of the meal and enough to get me to return to Joey's. The chicken Parmesan was a bit of a let down though. The chicken was a bit tough/overcooked and because of this I would have liked more sauce and cheese to abate the dryness. The two meatballs were next and I polished those off pretty quickly. They were tender, flavorful, and a worthy addition to the meal. At this point I was stuffed, so I had them box up the linguini which I ate the next day. Overall It was a good but not great meal. The Caesar salad alone would get me to come back, but I'd be hesitant to try the Chicken Parmesan again. read more

This was my second time here and the food remains exquisite. Delicious bread with crispy crust and warm insides, perfectly cooked ravioli with a superb Alfredo sauce, even the shrimp were perfectly cooked. The place has been completely remodeled since I was here last. The aesthetic is contemporary and interesting, but I must say I miss that old style Italian feel from my first visit. The service was friendly, but we felt rushed as we had barely touched our appetizer and they brought our salads out. My only complaint about the food is the red sauce with the fettuccine. It was lifeless and bland with no seasoning. But the pasta, which is made on premises, was extremely good. One strong recommendation I have is to please get bigger tables. There was barely room for us to sit across from each other and have our appetizers on there. read more

Last night, 1/31/2026, we had reservations at Joey's for a birthday dinner. Waited at the bar until our table was ready. The girl behind the bar was fantastic. That's where the nice evening ended. We were taken to our table and waited for 20 minutes for a server to at least acknowledge us. Finally, I stopped a waiter and asked for our server and that we've been waiting 20 minutes. Meanwhile, the table behind us, who were sat after us, already had their drinks, appetizers, and salads. 5 minutes later, our server finally shows up and apologizes, stating that he didn't know this was his table. How is that possible??? We couldn't have been the first folks at that table. At that point, we decided to leave. The waiter didn't really seem to care that we were leaving and didn't even offer anything to rectify the situation. We have been going to Joeys for years, but unfortunately we will NOT be going to Joeys again for the foreseeable future. Very unorganized. Not acceptable! read more

Holy Canoli Batman, was this place delightful! I was craving pasta like it was no one's business so we searched Yelp for Italian. We scrolled down and like Venus rising from the ocean in a shell, there appeared Joey's Classic Italian Dining. If ever you are in Syracuse, you must come here. There are two options: upstairs or downstairs. Go downstairs, check in with the maître de and be prepared for a most delicious meal. The garlic butter that comes with the fresh bread has actual chunks of garlic in the whipped butter. Sigh. We each had a glass of wine and a house salad. Very nice. D had the special, a pepper encrusted filet in a brandy cream sauce. Oh buddy was that good. I ordered the lasagna with a giant meatball. I couldn't finish it was such a healthy portion. Looks like it's lasagna and meatball for breakfast tomorrow! That lasagna might be the most delicious thing I've eaten in quite a long time. Seriously, it was perfection. We recently visited Joey's new location and left with mixed impressions--some highlights, some head-scratchers, but indeed not a bad experience overall. The service was genuinely friendly, and the staff is easily one of the best reasons to return. Everyone we interacted with was warm, attentive, and clearly trying to elevate the dining experience. The ambiance was inconsistent. It wasn't quite fine dining, but it did feel upscale for Syracuse standards. Some guests were dressed to the nines, while others were casually watching sports at the bar in sweatshirts and jeans. It made the restaurant's identity a little hard to pin down--part bistro, part sports bar, part special-occasion spot. Appetizers and pasta entrées were reasonably priced and aligned well with the restaurant's overall style. However, the steak options felt disproportionately expensive for what they delivered. We tried the filet Milanese at $61, and the quality--particularly the overcooked and somewhat flavorless preparation--didn't quite match the price tag. The side salad and vegetable accompaniments were passable but felt more like what you'd find at a wedding banquet than at a fine-dining restaurant. On a brighter note, the desserts and bread were genuinely excellent--clearly a standout area. They were flavorful, well-executed, and felt more in line with what the restaurant seems to be striving for. One design choice that detracted from the experience was placing the waitstaff stations directly in the dining area. Watching dishes being dropped off and picked up right next to the tables detracted from the atmosphere, especially given that some entrées are priced up to $75. Overall, the restaurant has potential: warm staff, great desserts, and a pleasant-enough vibe. With a clearer identity and more consistent execution--particularly for the higher-priced dishes--it could become a much stronger dining destination. read more

Well extremely disappointed, while I understand this is a new establishment, there is no excuse for the poor experience, where to start, If you call their 2 #s they both go to a cell phone voicemail where you can not leave a message. Parking is basically a construction zone I ordered 3 entrees to take out as well as 3 appetizers, The shrimp cocktail was actually under cooked, I am not a fan of sushi soooo. 2 of the 3 entrees were incorrect upon coming home to feed my family, 1 was missing the pasta the 2nd ( Lasagana ) was not even given to me. I tried calling the restaurant as well as emailing them but guess what their phone number goes to voice mail which is full so there is not contact available. It took an hour and a half for the food to be brought to me and upon coming home it was very disappointing. They are under staffed and it definitely shows in the quantity and quality of the products. read more

My nephew and his fiancee recommended this place when we came to visit him in Syracuse. And I'm glad that he did. It's not so often I go to classic Italian restaurant-like places. By that I mean the atmosphere, and the look and feel of it being somewhat upscale. We ate downstairs (apparently the upstairs is more upscale?). The waitress was very friendly and prompt. I had the lasagna with a sausage link, and they were great. It came with bread and a salad. Of course, I was full upon walking out as were the rest of my family. Be sure to check out the celebrities who have dined here on their Wall of Fame - one of them being Fonzie! The new location is very pretty. Now, let's overhaul the service. We made a reservation for 5:30 and didn't get seated until 6. We attempted to wait at the bar with a drink but Bartender #1 was too busy slamming down glasses and slicing his hand open while Bartender #2 was distracted by openly ignoring customers so we never had the opportunity to order a drink, much less drink one. Our server was perfectly nice but gaslighted me when I asked why my shrimp scampi didn't have any shrimp ("it doesn't come with shrimp"), brought out the shrimp, and didn't acknowledge that said meal came with shrimp until I thanked her for bringing the damn shrimp anyway and she confessed that she had forgotten it. Couldn't wait to check out the new digs and the foyer lighting to the bar entrance did not disappoint...very beautiful. Was expecting the bar to be as attractive but found the design elements to be more industrial looking. One in our party called it modern "ski lodge" styling. On the other hand, the bartenders were right on point. Each cocktail was delicious and served by friendly and attentive staff members. Having made reservations, our party was seated by the hostess in a timely manner. We were escorted from the bar, past a narrow curved dining area to a room that can only be described as resembling a stark rectangular gray box. The lack of decor prompted a patron at another table to say "it looks unfinished". Hopefully, that's the case. Our waiter was efficient but reluctant to offer any menu suggestions or describe possible specials, if there were any. Bread was delivered to the table along with crisp salads that came with the entree's. We ordered the calamari appetizer and it was some of the best we've ever had...tender and tasty. The entree's afforded a mixed bag of satisfaction. The chicken and veal Parmesan were big hits and cooked perfectly. Chicken Marsala was good but arrived tepid and the lasagna was somewhere between just okay and meh. The most surprising fact was that pasta was offered a la carte. In most Italian restaurants pasta is offered as a small side or perhaps garlic mashed, etc., but no starch accompanied any entrees. (We didn't stay for coffee and dessert so nothing to review there). Now for the less fortunate item of the review, besides the lack of atmosphere the noise level is deafening. Being a table of just four and no one with a hearing impairment, still we could barely carry on a conversation. Joey's has been a long standing and well respected venue in the Syracuse community. The new restaurant design may not be to everyone's liking or perhaps diner's will prefer the new and fresh look. Either way a tremendous amount of time, effort and money has gone into taking Joey's into the future. Folks should give it a try to make up their own minds. read more

Completely unexpected and a delightful surprise. We walked into an unassuming entrance and we only called ahead because at the top of the menu it stated reservations recommended. Who would have thought on a Monday night it would be overflowing. It was! I spoke to Chris who said he added our name to the list for the restaurant down the stairs. Tom asks me how do we know what down the stairs would mean? Well after we opened the front door we had two options. Head upstairs or walk downstairs which we did. What a surprise to find such a beautiful restaurant that's been serving amazing Italian food for 40 years. Our server Christine has been there for 32 years. She was outstanding and the service was top notch. White tablecloth service and we were wearing shorts and t-shirts. Again we had no idea and it didn't matter to them. They were kind and welcoming no matter how we were dressed. We each had a glass of their house wine. The fresh baked bread and Joey's garlic butter started our experience and it was divine. Next we had crisp and fresh house salads. Large portions were quickly served to us. If you are hungry this is definitely a place you won't leave hungry! I requested pasta primavera served on homemade linguine with red sauce. It was delicious and the veggies were spilling off the pasta. Tom had fresh made tortellini stuffed with a beef/pork mixture topped with a cream sauce. We both took half of our meals home to enjoy tomorrow for lunch. Again very generous servings. We skipped dessert not because we wanted too but because we just didn't have the bandwidth to eat any more food no matter how delicious. read more

I called and Chris who is the sweetest host ever said he had a table for us at 7:00 p.m. When we arrived we walked through the door and almost got seated at another more casual restaurant upstairs. Note: Joey's is downstairs I ordered the chicken Parmesan and we all loved that. I wish I'd taken photos of everything when served, but I was starving after being on two planes. My husband ordered the eggplant Parmesan and we all loved that. My son ordered the tortellini carbonara and we all loved that. We all shared the tiramisu and that was great. We have always loved Joey's, but our experience a couple of weeks ago in the new building was disappointing. We'll give it time to warm up to the new ambiance. We ordered apps and our meals at the same time. Apps were served within a reasonable amount of time but we were underwhelmed with the quality. Then we waited another hour for our entrees. The manager explained the difficult circumstances with staffing. But it sounded more like blame-shifting than accountability, which is not what we would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Not even an offer to make things right. They know what needs to be fixed. So please fix it and get Joey's back on our list of favorite restaurants. read more

Used to eat at the old Joey's and liked it a lot, although it seemed to deteriorate when the new place was being built. Anyway, the new restaurant thinks it's all that and it certainly isn't. The food is mediocre and EXTREMELY overpriced. $30 for pasta that's just ok. My husband had to send back his drink--an old-fashioned--because it was not good. Had a glass of wine instead since the bartender didn't know what they were doing. The worst part about the food, besides being ridiculously overpriced, was the side salad: a small plate with zero appeal that had clearly been in a fridge for awhile, already made and waiting to be served, really skimpy, wilted, and unappetizing. The best part of the meal was the bread and garlic butter, however our waitress forgot to bring it with our drinks and salads, then got defensive when we asked about it. Oh, and we had to ask another waiter to go find our waitress because we were done with our salads with no bread in sight. When the ridiculouslyt large bill came we were delighted to pay an extra 3.75% because we used a credit card. What a classy joint. Never going there again. read more

We visited the "new" Joey's for dinner, about a week after it opened. The new facility is impressive looking, but also quite noisy, like an echo chamber. The food we had was very good. The service started out good, but that changed and got progressively slower throughout the meal, for example we ordered a second glass of wine each when the salad came to the table, but never received it until we were over 3/4 of the way through eating the main course, well over 30 minutes after it had been requested, and things just kept getting slower from there. Hopefully they figure something out to quell down the noise level, and get past what was possibly some growing pains from opening the new building. read more

Passing through Syracuse we always like to try an Italian place. For some reason it is really good around here. Joey's was no different. Definitely a must. 40 year old family owned business. Food is amazing. Calamari steak cooked to perfection. Funny enough all of the soups were highly rated by my team. And I'm not sure why a few of the people in party chose to get the chicken parm but they LOVED it. I had the shrimp scampi and a Cesar salad. The scampi sauce is more of a lemon based instead of a garlic and butter based so be prepared for that. The Cesar salad did not homemade Cesar dressing, no anchovies and lacked a Parmesan experience. They used the fresh parm. They could have opted for the larger slices to add to this. The stars are definitely for the service. The waitress was great... Attentive and available. Address everyone my my lady or my sir. Loved that. She did amazing!!!! It's a fav spot for my team to go to. Definitely worth it. The desset definitely hits the spot as well! read more
