As I was finishing my meal I had a waitress take my plate away while still eating, and then waited about 20 minutes to receive our bill after asking multiple people. As a native (and very picky) Italian I can state that Basic Goodness Pizzeria serves the most authentic Neapolitan pizza I ever had on the Western seaboard. This new restaurant is superb. Definitely up there as one of the best pizza restaurants in BC. It's in my top five along with Vancouver pizzerias Nicli Antica, Via Tevere, Farina and Campagnola Roma. The artisan crust is crisp but slightly chewy. It stands up straight when you hold it and the San Marzano tomato sauce is perfect. I love this restaurant and highly recommend it. We stopped in for dinner and had some fantastic food. The wait was a bit long and it's a little too warm inside, but the food was worth it and the staff was extremely friendly. AVOID AVOID AVOID! Worst restaurant, do not go!! The pizza was literally like soup the cheese came off as the waitress put it down. We complained and the manager refused to make us another. She was beyond rude. It was literally the most disgusting pizza I have ever had, I refused to eat it and I am a pizza lover. You know what? not bad. not bad at all. I'd noticed this spot on a previous getaway and filed it away in my head to check out on a future visit. i totally forgot about it until meandering around again over the weekend. sure glad i did. we grabbed a seat at the bar and have to be honest that this is probably the best place to sit. A couple of the pizzas sounded unreal so we ordered three even though there were only two of us. we figured the leftovers would make a solid afternoon snack or my partner's fave, cold pizza for breaky the next morning. The diavola was nice and spicy and that pork on top was like crack. super addictive.we also got the fungus pizza which was good, really earthy mushrooms. of course you can't try a new pizza place without judging them by their margarita so we had to order this. Just like everywhere else in Tofino the menu is overpriced. $18.00 for three meatballs. That makes them $6.00 each and they come with some fresh baked bread no pasta. $18.00 for a basic ground meat and tomato sauce medium sized pizza is a bit steep too. The service was extremely slow. Oddly two couples that ordered after us received their meals before we did. Actually it took so long my wife had to leave for an appointment so she had cold pizza later that night. Very poor service and unorganised. When we arrived, there were four couples outside that had been there for over an hour. Two people showed up after ten minutes who had placed orders for pickup over two hours before we showed up. The staff kept saying that they still didn't know when their food would be ready. Another man showed up to pick up his order while we were outside and, after already waiting almost two hours for his food, decided to get his money back. There were also quite a few people who came and left because no one was bothering to come out and take names or give any indication as to how long a table would be. We ended up going inside to enquire about getting our names on the list and to get an idea of how long a wait it would be before getting a table. After finally getting a table, we ordered our food along with two San Pellegrino's to drink. The waiter came back with two small glasses instead of two cans and it was obvious that we were splitting a can between us. At around $4 a piece - you wouldn't expect to split a can between two people! We waited over 1/2 hour to get our food, which is crazy when you consider that a wood burning pizza oven cooks the food in 90 seconds! There were also only 5 other tables with customers, definitely not a busy evening. The customers who were still outside waiting for their food for pickup kept trying to find out how much longer it was going to take (We were confused as to how we managed to get a table and these poor people, who had been waiting hours to pick up their food, were nowhere near getting their food) and were told that the chef and owner still wasn't sure. What we really couldn't believe was the almost smug and condescending attitude the chef and owner had about how long people were willing to wait for their food. After one person came in to ask, we heard the owner saying to his staff that in Italy, people would not wait more than 20-30 minutes for their food before leaving. He didn't seem to have a problem letting people sit for an hour and a half or more before getting any food or if they left in general. As for safety protocol, the owner and pizza chef plus one waitress were not wearing masks. That same waitress got snippy at one of the customers (who had been waiting outside for almost three hours for his pickup order) to not lean on the hostess table outside because it was unsanitary to do so. After all is said and done, the food was not worth the insane wait or poor service. One of the pizza's we ordered was soggy and greasy and the other one had reconstituted mushrooms that were hard and unpleasant. This was a very disappointing experience and we will not be back. Don't waste your time! read more

Fabulous pizza. Not for those who want an American style loaded pizza with tons of toppings. These pizzas (and we tried 6 different kinds!) are Italian style pizzas with an emphasis on fabulous crusts (probably the best I've tasted) and quality ingredients. Excellent and would go again. Be warned that they are not cheap (the dreaded Tofino markup) but to my mind well worth it. read more

So...I saw this place highly rated on yelp and went to check it out. Arrived the first night at 8:12 and was told they were closed because they ran out of dough. They told me this is their normal policy. I asked when we should return the following day to be sure when they would still have dough. The gal said between 7-8pm is always safe (guess I missed the window by 12 minutes). So, next day we returned and they were closed!!! The girl neglected to tell me they close on Wednesday. So we return the NEXT DAY, mostly out of principle because I'm like this better be some f$#*ing fabulous pizza. Finally got ther when they were open and indeed had dough. The place is small and hip. One wall is a hot dude eating a cheesy slice of Za. The pizza was pretty good. The service was attentive. Was it worth a three day wait? I don't know, it was good wood fire cooked pizza, but with all the other amazing options in Tofino I would keep looking. read more
