I ordered my burger medium rare and it was served a perfect medium rare. The smoked Gouda was an excellent choice, but I ordered four toppings and they mostly obscured the great beefy flavor - my mistake. The ingredients were fresh ... melted smoked Gouda, (shredded) lettuce, tomato and pickled peppers. Not a fan of shredded lettuce. I prefer a couple of leaves of chilled crisp lettuce. The tomato was a winter tomato and did not add any acidity. The bun was properly toasted a beautiful golden brown. The onion rings ... sigh. Tasty and not a grease farm ... and while fried perfectly, they arrived mostly a giant lump of stuck together. They were served hot and on a separate plate a few minutes after the burger arrived. I decided to splurge and try a peanut butter shake. Terrific ice cream ... no HFCS aftertaste. Great peanut butter flavor. Two disappointments: - Value. $8 for the size ... insufficient value. - I like my milkshakes to be blended a bit coarse; not blended textureless, soft-serve smooth. You've been warned. My daughter and I make it an annual trip almost to come to this place when we're in town since we live 2 hours away. Love the way you can customize your burger, chicken, plant based burger, turkey burger -- there are so many options and you fill out your laminated menu with dry erase markers. Service is fast and food was great. They also have tater tots as a side option, which is super original. This last time we went, our tater tots were not the best; however, we still enjoyed our meal and we'll probably be back! Really enjoyed this place! The parking was kind of tight but once inside the restaurant we were quickly greeted and seated. Once the waitress explained the menu we checked the boxes on the menu for what we wanted. I thought this portion of ordering was fun and cute and the kids really liked it too. A few girls from college and I go out one evening a month. We decided to try Basement Burger Bar, and everything was wonderful. There was a little wait, as it was dinner time, but we always expect that when going out on the weekend. The burgers were probably one of the best we've had in the 20 years we've had this tradition to go out once a month. Our server was a lovely man, who was so personable, kind and answered every question with patience- and we asked a lot of questions. Patrick, the manager came out to our table to make sure the service and food met our standards. He was such a nice man, and really cares about his customers. It has been a while since I have been here. I decided to meet a friend here. I forgo that it was an actual sit down spot. We decided to sit at the bar because we had more room to spread our arms. I had also forgot that it had liquor and a bar. I ordered a drink and decided on the Wagyu burger with light toppings. The burger was great. I thought I would not eat it all but I did. Not much here to say. You have a great bar with even better food. It's not the biggest place and the parking lot can be crowded with the neighboring restaurants, but it's worth it. I've seen Basement Burger Bar on a few lists of Michigan's best burgers, and I do believe it deserves that recognition. Not only can you build your own burger, but you can even make a salad if you're not into meat. Fries are terrific as well. Service is generally good and quick even when it's busy. Been here a few times. We did a take out order this last time. I always find myself doing the "create your own" burger since it will be exactly how I like it. I ordered a medium well burger and when we got home to eat, I found it had quite a bit of pink inside. Although my burger wasn't cooked how I usually like it, I will say their chipotle mayo made up for it. I didn't remember the chipotle mayo being that good so I can only assume they changed the recipe since I had been here about a year or 2 ago. The other times I've ordered here they always did it right, and it was always good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant space isn't my favorite. The good thing about this place is definitely the taste of the burger, and they have a small but OK craft beer menu. I had the tropical burger with beef and no bacon, and I found it to be pretty good although a little messy. That just happens with a burger with pineapple, though. However, I thought the price was a little high for such a smallish burger and no fries. And as mentioned, the beer selection was OK. Nothing super but it's nice to have decent beers as an option. My biggest problem with this place though was the seating. Very cramped and awkward. You have to practically move into your neighbor's lap before you can slide into your own seat at some of the tables. Came here one night with my mom when I was feeling too lazy to cook. They'd just recently released their spring cocktails. Mom and got the lemon meringue pie martini, and I got the cucumber something. Both were delicious. We each got a burger - she got one from the menu, I did a build your own. We were both really happy with the quality and taste of the burgers. Nothing but good things to say on the food. We sat at the bar and our bartender was super attentive for most of the night. It's not necessarily the ambiance because that's pretty standard here, it's more about the food and the beer selections. You literally cannot go wrong with a burger or chicken sandwich with a Bells Two Hearted IPA. Now, they have many other selections and eventually I will try others, but to be honest, it's hard not to order anything but Bells if it's on the menu. I recently decided to give them another shot because they were the only place delivering a smash burger in the area. While the menu offers good value, the burgers were still dry and lacked flavor, and the fries were mediocre at best.
