Aaron the manager is wonderful. Great fun! We'll be back! Great happy hour! Thanks for being so kind!

I've heard of axe throwing bars but never really considered going to one. (Me and sharp objects have never been a good pairing, I simply have the crappiest luck with them.) But GodNephew and his wife wanted to check it out. I didn't do any axe throwing or play any Ping-Pong playing, so this review is based on the overall experience outside of that. No reservations but we made it within opening hour so our party of 8 was seated immediately. The menu didn't take long to come through either. It also didn't take long for us to go through it as their food selection isn't vast. TIP: The group expedition part of the menu does NOT require a minimum order of 4 nor does each order feed a party of 4. We were all confused as to what they meant by "these dishes are designed for parties of 4 or more." (Seriously, they should just take that statement out.) Our server said we can just order them like a regular order for one. ANYWAY! The verdict: FRIED MAC + CHEESE: I'm not really a fan of mac and cheese anything but these looked appetizing enough for me to try. Great crunch outside, nice creaminess of the cheese and macaroni was cooked perfect. For mac and cheese lovers, this is for you. WEDGE SALAD BITES: I've never had one of these and it's not something I would even think about ordering. But hanger pangs started gnawing at me, so I gave it a try. Whoa, this was surprisingly good! It was refreshing with the fresh and crispy lettuce. The blue cheese dressing and crumbles were neutralized by the bacon bits. Recommending! CRISPY PORK: Crispy, they are not. Matter of fact, no part of that dish was crispy at all. But the seasoning was on point. Wrapped in warm tortilla and topped with tomatillo sauce = YUM. But really, they shouldn't be calling these "crispy." It's completely misleading. BRISKET: I got to try a bite of it from someone else's plate. DELISH. The only issue? The veggies were undercooked. All of them were soft on the outside and tough on the inside - bad enough to be inedible. (I know, we should have said something, but we really didn't have the luxury of time for a do-over.) FOOD: 3.5. SERVICE: 3. It wasn't busy but had hitches finding our servers. VALUE: 3. PARKING: Private lot. Not an issue. OVERALL: 3.25. I got to take a peak at the axe throwing area and learned you can have your food and drinks brought there. There was also an instructor who can show you the ropes of axe throwing. GodNephew and wife enjoyed it. They didn't complete the full hour, though. I figure they just got tired. TIP: They highly recommend making reservations! I noticed a DJ section situated above the floor, so it makes me wonder if this place gets poppin' at night. They do have the area to open the floor since the bar is set right dab smack in the middle. Overall experience was above par. For curious enough people, come down and check 'em out.

My review will strictly cover the axe throwing experience, as our party did not come for the pong. Nor did we partake in munchies. Though the neighboring table did order some kind of nachos and they did look pretty darn good from afar. Okay back to the axes. We did make a reservation for our group of 8 and are so glad we did. It was so nice to have a designated spot for our 2 hours and we loved the addition of an "axe throwing expert/score keeper aka peace keeper " to assist us the entire time. Grant was friendly, personable, and very helpful at giving us axe throwing virgins some great tips and tricks. He did a great job explaining how the scoring and rules worked and excelled at keeping us engaged and on task with our turns. We did have a server who visited our table numerous times to ensure our drinks were filled ( even the lame ones like me with just water). I may have come in pretty much dead last in our little tournament, but ya know what?? I'd come back and suck all over again. It was a great activity to do with a group of friends. Basic FYI's if you haven't perused their website yet: Closed toed shoes required for obvious reasons. And you can only order beer & wine while throwing, also for obvious reasons. Other than that, obey the boundary lines for throwing and you should be golden!

Came in here for the 4th of July (after the fireworks show was over) and they had this pretty rad promo going on.. pay $20 for parking, you then get a food credit to use here for $20!! That was really neat. We wanted to wait for traffic to settle down so we grabbed a bite, had a Mac & cheese burger! 10/10!! Wow it was delicious. Our server, Katie was amazing!! She was so friendly, efficient & was on top of everything. Her service was truly amazing, what a way to end our night! Thank you Katie!!

I've been wanting to give axe throwing a try, so when we went to visit my mom she suggested we try Base Camp. Getting there: Base Camp in right across from Boise State in downtown Boise. Experience: We did a private axe throwing experience. Our instructor was so badass! She showed us basics of axe throwing, and shared tips of how to improve our throws along the way. By the end of the session, I was throwing bullseyes each time. The customer service was exceptional. They took our drink orders as soon as we sat down. All of the staff was super friendly and to care of us while we were there. This activity is definitely addicting! I wish there was a place in the IE...I would go weekly. Tips: - Come prepared to sweat! It's harder than it looks. I was pretty sore the next day from throwing. - Wear closed-toe shoes. I don't think they will allow you to wear any other kind of shoes if you are throwing.

So so much fun!!! My daughter and I had a blast. Amazing customer service & really cool environment. I wish they had this in San Diego! Love it! Highly recommend.

    Two happy axe throwers!!

Wow! So much fun. This place is literally a thousand miles from our home and we're so happy it happened to be behind our hotel. First off... think Lucky Strike but instead of bowling you have two lanes (or more) to throw axes at a target. Our Axe Guy was Blake. He made it really fun! It was safe and he gave us useful tips to make our time even more fun. Oh! 90 minutes for $40 dollars for the two of us was perfect! The service was great and we threw and ate and drank at a table right in front of our lanes. Joshua, the Chef and his Sous Chef Adam even made a special vegan plate for us. So good, we got another!! So, it's just great & we highly recommend this fun and unique spot!

This was my second time at Base Camp Pong + Axe and definitely NOT my last. This review is for the ping-pong facility. Base Camp hosts a ping-pong tournament on the first Saturday of each month. The tournament is advertised as a *free* event that is open for all ages and skill levels. And so when I was asked to pay $5.30 upon check in, I felt like I was tricked into false advertising (see receipt). I was a tad disappointed (keep reading; there's a twist to the story). There are two ping-pong tables in the bar area. And five more in the designated ping-pong area. As far as level of play, I was the only beginner/intermediate player. Everyone else was advanced. But that did not intimidate me at all. I was there to have fun. Tournament format: double elimination. Keith, one of the owners of Base Camp, organized the tournament and he did a marvelous job. RATES: $11 for a 30-minute rental of one table $18 for an hour rental $5 if you play from 12 noon-3 p.m. on Sundays TIP: First-Saturday tournament starts at 1 p.m. You should register by 12:45 p.m. to be included in the tourney. And oh, when I checked my bank account, I got a refund. It looks like the server who checked me in was misinformed. It's so nice of Base Camp to return my money, though. They have my admiration. Solid five stars for this place! Go check it out! I tried axe-throwing at Base Camp a couple of weeks ago for a Yelp event, and it was the most fun I've had with sharp objects. Ha!

YOU ALL READY FOR SOME FUN IN BOISE???!!! This place has what you need! Finally got to check this place out with my work! Called ahead of time to plan and see what kind of package deals there were. The sales rep was very responsive and super professional. He asked how many people and what we were looking for and he set up a awesome round robin tournament for us! They have tons of different options and depending on what you're looking to do (play hourly or play with a structure) they are willing to accommodate and work with you. The instructors are amazing. Not only do they keep you safe they give you tips if you're struggling to get the axe to stick. Heads up it's kind of hard to stick the board but the base camp does such an amazing job getting you up to speed! We had someone in our group that couldnt stick on until they got coaching and all of a sudden they were top 3. The instructors are patient and know what they are doing so keep an open ear to what they say. The food options are amazing. Did i mentioned they have happy hour from 5pm-7pm? Uh yes please. Great food and time spent to prepare all these different meals. Definitely a must try and check out the place!

This place has been on my list to try so I made I a Christmas present & Anniversary fun date to kick off New Years Day 2020. Base Camp Exceeded all my expectations! The check in was quick, friendly and thorough greeting and service from Mason. He was very attentive and great to chat with pointing best menu and drinks to try. I booked the private session for two people then we had Philly cheesesteak sandwiches and a couple drinks after. Hannah was our axe instructor and she was super helpful and patient guiding the practice throws. Appreciated her humor and positive attitude during our entire session. The private session was well worth the price for me. It went by pretty quick though. This was the best experience and most fun I've had in so long, kudos to the owners for bringing a fun new place with no TVs to Boise to hang out. I can't wait to go back again!!! Thank you so much!

Yup, you can purchase swag in the sunny lobby...

Checkin was efficient, all staff was so friendly, helpful & genuine- I'd definitely recommend this place. I went with a group of others, many whom had thrown axes at another establishment- & we all agreed this place was superior in food, atmosphere, instruction, cleanliness... & so spacious! The environment is unique in that you could have fun on an intimate date or have a blast with a huge group. With a full menu, bar, ping pong & axe throwing to chose from... there is something for everyone!

Ask the Community - Base Camp Pong + Axe

Are minors welcome or is this place 21+?

Our restaurant and ping pong are all ages. The Axe Room is age 16 and up.

Do I need to make a reservation?

No! They are usually pretty chill, not crazy busy. I would reserve for large parties in one of the rooms though

I was in town for business, and I had a local friend tell me, "you gotta go in here. You can tell…read morethe bartender what you like flavor wise, and they will make you something even better than you can imagine." And that, my friends, is exactly what happened. I walked in, not sure what to get. The bartender asked me what flavors I like. She went away and made me this epic cocktail. She told me all the things she added, and it was clear, these bartenders are the real deal. They know their stuff. I drank my delightful cocktail way too fast. But it was so damn good. The vibe is fun. They bartenders interact with everyone and do all kinds of cool things with cool ingredients and tell you about it all. Perfect spot for a loungey date night, or a meet up with a friend. There is no food. But plenty of spots on 8th in walking distance. This is probably one of the best cocktail bars I've ever been to. ... and I've been to a lot. :)

Like this bar changed my whole perspective on the whole state of Idaho being a California transplant, which doesn't hold that much weight with other people in Idaho, but I don't care. A speak easy in Boise! I was intrigued! The whole experience was so fun to share with a group of…read morefriends! We stood in the alley and knocked on the door. A small window in the door opened and we had to provide a password to gain entry. (Initially our large group had to reserve 3 time slots and we would be seated separately.) I was in the first group. We were let into a small area with floor to ceiling bookcases. Of course there was a book that once pulled, opened a secret door to the bar within. The ambiance was dim lighting and groups of comfortable seating areas. The waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the drinks on the menu. I started with a mocktail that could be made vegan by omitting the egg white. Beautifully presented with a flower design. It was sweet and it was tart. The second drink I got was a cocktail that was smooth with a perfect amount of sweet. My friends got cocktails in their unique glasses. When our next group came through, they were led into a room. After a while, one friend came out to say hello to us. The waiter noticed that we knew each other and told my group to follow him. The room was dimly lit and was furnished with comfortable armchairs and couches. Our third group was able to join us in the room and we were able to mingle seated or standing. The different drinks that were ordered were so cool. A smoky bubble was set on top of a cone shaped glass that resembled an ice cream cone. I had a couple of friends that ordered gin drinks and they were served in a bathtub complete with rubber ducky! This was such a fun and special way to celebrate a friend's birthday! The service was superb!

I've been to several speakeasies around the USA and Gatsby should be the standard of what a…read morespeakeasy should be. No really! Imagine yourself walking through the 8th St promenade in downtown Boise. It's hustling and bustling with people and restaurants that are packed. Then, out of the corner of your eye, you see an alley. It's kinda dark, maybe a little unsettling at first. You see a steel door with a small panel at the top of the door. No door handles but a green lit old stagecoach light, a small wooden sign hanging g just beyond the door with a key on it. Hmmm, strange. In faded sharpie letters it says Knock knock on the metal door, so you knock twice. The panel on the door slides open and they ask for the password. Whoa!!!! Luckily you called ahead to make reservations so they whispered it to you. You give the password and door opens to a tiny little library with a couple of shelves full of books. The hosts welcomes you and you stare at the bookshelf knowing it isn't just a bookshelf but a door. You try pulling on different books guessing which is the right one but after a minute the hostess shows you and you enter a beautiful brick walled 1920s decorated room with seats and dim lights and no windows whatsoever. The artwork is prohibition-era themed. Heck, there's even a stack of wooden barrels that supposedly hold spirits. That is exactly the speakeasy experience you are looking for. We were seated in the boiler room, a private area which had beautiful wooden lockers with glass doors all lit up and full of booze. Books line the wall and there is an old fireplace covered with candles that have melted wax all over the mantle. In the corner is a poker table. Really the perfect vibe for a speakeasy. Glance at the menu and notice their tang of cheaper to very rare and unique spirits, some costing hundreds of dollars for a shot. Whisky, vodka, rum, gin, scotch, bourbon, you name it. But also check out their cocktails. They can even make mocktails if you don't want alcohol. Not only are the drinks unique but so is their presentation. The glades used I've never seen. Some drinks have a printed pattern on them, others come with dry ice that quickly evaporates or a cool smoked filled bubble. The whole experience was just amazing. This is a do not miss opportunity if you like drinks and cool, unique experiences. They even have another room in the back called the Garrison Room which looks like a mineshaft. I just love the thought put into this place. And when you are done, you exit through a nondescript door and exits to a patio area of another restaurant and back out to the promenade. Just a wow experience! So glad I did it.

My husband and I really wanted to like this place! The setting is wonderful and the ambience is…read morereally nice. We had breakfast there this morning and it was just OK. We both got the traditional eggs Benedict... and I ate maybe 15% of my breakfast and just stopped. My husband ate all of his... but mostly because he was just hungry... Much like our Labrador who will eat absolutely anything! Haha. But he said it was only OK. He rated it a 5/10. What he disliked the most was the potatoes. They were fairly hard/tough and tasted like they were fried in old oil and sitting under heat lamps for two hours before we got them. They were very dehydrated as well. For me... The hollandaise sauce was fresh, but had no flavor. It needed more lemon or salt or something. The ham was odd... I'm a little too salty. It seemed like Hillshire Farms sliced ham. Not something you would expect at a nice restaurant in your eggs Benedict. Also, I ordered an Arnold Palmer... And it was so sour that I had to send it back. I poured like a heaping teaspoon of sugar into it, and it didn't even make a difference.... It was that sour. It actually started to make my stomach hurt a little. So I sent it back. And the waitress was very nice, and didn't charge me for it. The service was good... But they cram everyone in there on one side of the restaurant... at least outside. I have no idea why... They have all this space in front of their restaurant and yet they try and cram everybody right next to each other. It was very annoying, and made me just wanna leave. They have many tables on the other side like 10 feet away... But they insisted on cramming everybody into the same small area. And you could tell nobody wanted to be that close to one another. I'm not sure if they do this to make it easier for their servers... Or to make the restaurant look busy. Either way, it's a practice that they really should stop. My advice to the restaurant... Utilize your space outside in front, stop cramming people so close together. When you have to get up and move your chair so someone can get to their table... it's ridiculous! On a positive note... Their coffee was actually really good! Some of the best that we've had in a restaurant in many many years. And I know, I mentioned it above, but I should mention it again... The weight staff was wonderful. From the girl who greeted us at the front podium, to our waitress, and the waitressing training. Everyone was wonderful. So, to end this review... I can only comment on the breakfast. We didn't have anything else there, and maybe it will be good... But I'm not sure if I'm willing to give this place another try. Good luck!
