If you have any special needs, beware this place! One small problem that they neglect to mention on their site is that they will not accommodate for any food allergy needs. Furthermore, the service is slow and unskilled and the menu selection is extremely limited. Also, the "amazing" view is easily obscured by fog. The daytime activities are boring and cliched. The 8 mile drive up to the summit of Mt Greylock is amazing. Take your time and stop at the scenic vistas - each one is a different view. Once you get to the lodge I suggest you drop off your stuff before parking because the parking lot is a tad of a walk. You register in a great living room with comfortable chairs and large fireplace. They serve beer, wine and cider from 5-7 pm. We had 3 rooms, a family one (2 bunks & a queen bed) and 2 single rooms. The rooms were clean & comfortable. Sparkling water, towels & soap were provided. Nothing fancy but this is a rustic lodge. Bathroom & showers are shared - not an issue for any of us. Walking around the grounds and up to the War Memorial Tower gave 360 degree views of Massachusetts, VT & NY. This alone is worth the trip. We had dinner at the lodge - just choice of one entrée & vegetarian option. We had the steak, waldoff salad, potatoes, fresh green beans and bread pudding for dessert. Excellent food and seemed reasonable for location. After our salads were finished our server suggested we go outside to see the sunset. She was right - it was amazing. It is cool in the mountains at night so bring a sweater. We returned to the dinning room for the rest of the meal. Meals are communal and we sat with a guy from Wyoming who was hiking the Appalachian trail. No TV and spotting internet meant we spent the evening in the big living room talking - what a pleasant way to spend the night. Before bed we went outside to see the stars and saw the Milky Way - spectacular! The town of Adams all lit up was very pretty. All that fresh air and we sleep soundly. Muffins and coffee are included in the room rate. The blueberry muffins were freshly baked, served warm and delicious. You can also order a full breakfast. We walked the grounds to see the views with the morning light and found a group of college students sleeping out by the tower. It just added to the fun. Things to do: 1) Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge 2) Joe's Dinner in Lee, MA - food is only okay but fun to sit at the counter where N Rockwell painted the phot of the runaway boy and policeman 3) Drink a glass of wine on the porch of the lodge 4) Walk all around the summit during the day, evening, night and morning - everything changes with the light. 5) Check out the War Memorial tower - under renovation to Spring of 2017 6) Drink coffee at the picnic bench 7) Read or visit in the big comfortable living room 8) Talk to the many hikers of the Appalachian trail - their stories are inspiring. 9) Be in awe at the bikers who rode up the 8 miles to the 3491 foot summit. 10) Enjoy Mass MOCA in North Adams 11) Don't miss the Natural Bridge in N Adams - park at the top by the visitors center and check out the bridge and marble dam. 12) Stop by the Susan B Anthony Birthplace in Adams, MA. read more

The bedroom was great - even with no running water in the shared ladies room, the bedroom we slept in was clean, warm and cozy and the men didn't mind me sharing their bathroom. The restaurant, however, was totally gross. The prix-fixe dinner was mostly inedible (overcooked, dry vinegar soaked pork chop) and overpriced for what it was. I guess up there on top of a mountain, they can charge a premium because they're the only restaurant around!! On the plus side, overnight guests are provided with a free continental breakfast. They gave us hot, fresh warm strawberry muffins right out of the oven and those were pretty awesome. I think they get away with a bit much because they're the only lodging and dining at the top of a mountain --- but hey, you're on top of a mountain! Views are gorgeous. read more

When my wife and I stopped here for a lunch after a long drive and hike, we were expecting the most basic of food. However, the burger i ordered was both beautiful to look at and was far more than I expected. Red tomotoes crispy onions and lettuce, loaded with freshly sautéed mushrooms all on top of a brioche roll. My wife had the BLT also expecting the basics; a couple strips of bacon on white bread with pink tomatoes and pale iceberg lettuce. Also greatly surprised by the red tomatoes, crispy bacon on thick slice yummy bread. Both sandwiches also came with amazing homemade potato salad and coleslaw. The view of the mountains from the dining room really rounded out the experience. read more

Worst lodging experience. We book a room for 3 nights a month prior to our stay. They double booked our room and put us in another room without a door lock. 4 people walked into our room during the middle of the night. We left after the first night! read more

Terrible customer service. We called last night to make reservations for seven people. At that time, they requested our credit card information. We were told on the phone that dinner was at 7pm, but the owner told us that we should arrive early because drinks would be served after 5pm. So, we headed up at 6pm, took in the views, and headed inside for a drink at 6:20. At that time, we were told that they SOMETIMES serve drinks prior to dinner, but they had just decided not to do so today. When we mentioned this to the woman at the front desk, she brushed us off, as of it were totally okay/normal to promise a service and not deliver on it. We decided to leave and told her this, at which time she told us she would have to charge us anyway. When we asked whose decision that was, she said it was the owner's. We asked of he was around, to which she said "yes, he's downstairs...no wait, no he's not." She claimed to be the middle person, which I believe. But if a restaurant owner is going to promise a service, renege on it, and claim to charge the customers anyway, s/he should be the one to face the customers. Poor form on many fronts here. I grew up in the Berkshires, my parents (who were with me) still live here, we used to love Bascom Lodge prior to all the recent changes. Service was less fancy, but it was GOOD. If you want to enjoy good food and views from the top of Mt. Greylock, you would be far better off packing a picnic. read more

Bascom lodge is very, very rustic. This aspect works wonderfully for the dining room, where the exposed beams and stone fireplace provide atmosphere for the surprisingly good food while the superb views make up for any deficiencies in the service. When it comes to the rooms however, the feeling is rather spartan than rustic. We had a "private" double room, which still requires you to access shared bathrooms and showers that are of the extremely simple style you might find at a camping ground. There is no phone or TV and the free WiFi is good enough to check email but fails miserably at streaming video or FaceTime. I would have taken the simplicity as the price for the location on the top of the highest mountain in Massachusetts and the overall uniqueness of the place, but what will probably keep me from spending the night here again, is that the walls and doors are thin as cardboard and you can hear as clearly as if there was an open door, everything that happens in the corridor outside and neighboring rooms. All it takes is one inconsiderate guest and the best you can hope for is falling asleep late and be woken up early. You might as well be in a tent. Having said that, dinner is nice, especially if you have a designated driver that can safely take you down the 9 mi of very curvy, narrow road back to a more comfortable place to spend the night. read more

We had our wedding and rehearsal dinner up at Bascom Lodge this Fall. It couldn't have been more spectacular. We enjoyed the process of planning the wedding from start to finish. Chef John, Mary and Dianne were a pleasure to work with. Everything was handled professionally and promptly. On the day of the food was phenomenal. Chef John does miracles in the kitchen. Everything from the hors d'oeuvres to the beef main dish were spectacular. The serving was prompt and professional but the atmosphere was laid back and comfortable. We stayed overnight at the lodge with a number of our friends which was truly fantastic experience and gave us much more time to interact with our friends. Even with shared bathrooms and many of them in bunk beds our friends enjoyed their stay at the lodge. Many of them felt it was the best wedding they had been to. We are so happy that we decided to have the wedding up at Bascom Lodge and could not recommend it more highly. read more
