My family loved our weekend stay at the Whitcomb Summit Retreat! We booked a room here when we were planning out a weekend of hiking in Western, MA. Had a great conversation with the manager on the phone to book our stay. The motel is in a great location at the top of a peak along the Mohawk Trail. Really quiet and peaceful. Cool, even in the summer without the need for A/C. Huge lawn out front great for playing or a picnic or stargazing. Loved the dark sky away from urban centers. We brought a telescope along with us and I was able to show my kids a close up view of the moon and Jupiter through the clean and dry mountaintop air. The rooms were clean and the furniture was practically new. The pillows and beds were soft and comfy. My family loved the breakfast pastry spread: donuts, coffee, bagels, muffins, etc. Check-in / check-out was effortless. Nothing to complain about! read more

My girlfriend and I were in the area to go whitewater rafting and hiking. The Whitcomb Summit Retreat provided a clean, quiet, and friendly atmosphere for us to relax between activities. The location is great with gorgeous views and a short drive away from North Adams and other downtown areas. There are a lot of good restaurants within a 10-15 minute drive. We would definitely stay here again! read more

As so many others have reflected, you come to the Whitcomb Summit for rest, peace and tranquility. The rooms are clean and spacious. It's not fancy, but the bed is super-comfy and they have cable and wi-fi. Our hosts, Annette and Matt, went out of their way to make our family feel welcomed and comfortable, with continental breakfast and afternoon snacks. But it's the view and the sunrise that will stay with you after you leave the Whitcomb. Simply stunning. It's a short and lovely drive to North Adams for plenty of restaurants and activities from the Whitcomb. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a peaceful place to stay when in the area. read more

Great stay! Exceeded expectations because of the lovely and very accommodating Ann Marie. The morning view and yoga on the front porch was exactly what I needed. LOTS to do and eat in the area. read more

Whitcomb Summit Retreat - Hotels Near Me - Florida, Massachusetts

New management makes all the difference. The hotel has simple, basic rooms, which are slowly being upgraded with new furnishings. Breakfast is pastries, cereal and fruit. Internet works. No phone in the room, good signal strength for at&t service. Previous problems with water are solved. Beds are clean and comfortable. Fridge and microwave on request. One of the pizza places in north Adams will deliver pizza to the room, albeit not quickly. The old restaurant and gift shop are closed and the building they were in is barely standing, and the managers plan to tear them down and replace them. The old tower is long gone, as is the pool. If you're coming here, it's for the peace and quiet and the sensational view from every room. The view, and the new managers, Matt and Annette, are why the review has 5 stars. There's an abundance of comfort and a lack of either hustle or bustle. Weather is best July through September. September foliage is unbelievable. read more

My trip to Whitcomb Summit started off like a horror film. Before I even left my home, I told my roommate that I was a little scared. A single 27-year-old woman, traveling by herself... to a secluded place where I knew I wasn't going to have any cell reception. (If you have Verizon or Sprint, there's not much of a chance you will have service here.) There wasn't any info about having wi-fi on their website, so I wasn't sure if I would even have that (they do!). Not to mention, I was going to be staying there during their off season. So who knew how many other people would be around? Regardless of my fears, I headed out from Boston. I was about two hours away when I got a call from the motel. He said that there was a lot of fog at the top of the hill, so he wanted me to call when I was almost there so that he could walk me into the parking lot. He also mentioned that it was going to be a quiet evening because he had a group cancel. At this point, I couldn't figure out if I was in fact in a horror film or if this motel in fact truly cared about their clients. Again, regardless of my fears, I continued on. I had a few logistical mishaps which the motel owner could have easily been annoyed about since he was awaiting my arrival - but he was very helpful and patient. The fog was in fact the thickest fog I've ever had to drive through. But as the owner told me, he helped me get into the parking lot. Upon arrival, he was very nice and helpful. I was in fact the only person staying that night (remember, this is during their off-season). But he knew I didn't have cell reception so he supplied me with one of the motel phones and even showed me how to use the TV and supplied me with bottled water. My room was on the second floor, which has a little more security since you need a key to even get to the second floor, which made me feel safe. Once I was settled in, I had no more fear of my visit. I knew the owner was right downstairs and knew how to get a hold of him. Now, this is the most important part of my review and the major reason why I'm giving it 5-stars. It was very clean! I'm pretty anal with the cleanliness of hotel. I pay attention to everything and even check for bed bugs. And I could tell that it was a recently cleaned room. Even with the vacuum lines still on the carpet (lets face it, a lot of hotels don't vacuum between every visitor!) The next morning, I looked outside and the view was absolutely amazing. However, the fog rolled in again before I was able to get a picture. My only complaints was the unfortunate weather I had and the fact that my GPS brought me to the wrong location. If you are using a GPS to get here, I would suggest plugging in 1 Moores Rd., Florida, MA which is the street right next to the resort. This motel is everything you need it to be for staying in Florida, MA. It's very simple and clean with a great view and great customer service. Aside from that, you shouldn't even be at the motel and should be out enjoying the Berkshires! read more

Things that I loved about this hotel: ~check-in is in a bar (this is my type of place) ~price wasn't bad - it wound up costing 4 of us just over $30/night apiece (2 queen beds) ~just a 10 minute drive from mass moca ~soooooo many stars ~little shampoo/conditioners were pantene, for medium thick hair and anti-frizz. not too shabby! Things I didn't love about this hotel: ~no fridge in the room ~bring your own water! water tastes metallic, and shower water never quite gets or stays warm enough, so minimize if possible. all in all an a-ok experience! plus, you get to say you went to florida, which in and of itself makes it all worth it. read more

I don't know what to rave about first... * the view--can't describe it; you've got to experience it. Especially the sunrise! It's one of the most amazing views in Western MA. * the owner--Jim. One of the nicest motel owners I've ever met! He treated my group like we were very special guests. We were spoiled and pampered. * the price--for very clean rooms and as much coffee as we wanted in the morning, you can't beat the price! Then add in a spectacular sunrise, PRICELESS!! The rooms are very simple but clean (most important in my opinion). There are picnic tables for those who don't want to venture out to look for a restaurant (bring your own food! Though there is a complimentary continental breakfast available). As soon as Jim gets his restaurant up and running, Whitcomb Summit Retreat will be THE place to be in Western MA. My group had been ziplining at BerkshireEast earlier. We plan to do it again, and we will DEFINITELY be back to Whitcomb Summit Retreat! Thank you Jim...YOU ARE THE BEST! read more

Returned for our second reunion at the Whitcomb. What a spectacular weekend! Jim went ALL OUT to make us feel welcomed and the rooms were even nicer than last year. Our room was clean and cozy and the view from the balcony is like nothing you're going to get at the hotels in the area---breathtaking!!! The Whitcomb is secluded, a quick drive to North Adams' downtown (MCLA, MassMOCA) and at the end of the day, you can return to a spacious room with a view! If you want valet parking, luxury soaps, a live band and a mini-bar, go elsewhere--but if you want a clean room, a peaceful setting, and a good price, stay at the top of the mountain. read more

This was a very affordable place to stay! Here are the highlights: -Amazing view. The view, especially from the upper level, is simply breathtaking. -Really friendly staff. They genuinely cared that we had a good time and were comfortable. -Clean room, comfortable bed. Woke up feeling rested. -Cool elk statute in front of the building. Also an informational sign describing the history of the location. Definitely interested in these sorts of things so that was a big plus. -Big grounds - lots of space to walk around. Overall, it was a great place to stay after a long day of hiking. Will come back again. read more

Spent the past weekend here on a bachelorette weekend. I must say it was the best weekend I've had away in a long time. The owners were accommodating and recommended a bunch of cool things to do while we were there. All of us came back relaxed and extremely happy. A must stay. Hubby and I spent one night and plan to come back for more. The view is absolutely breathtaking, the rooms are really spacious, very clean, with large screen tv with satellite, fridge, microwave, and yes some great amenities like chocolates in the room, soap, shampoo, books to read and my favorite: A WELL DONE CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST INCLUDED too! We enjoyed sitting on the porch and soaking in the tranquil setting which was especially nice after a 25 mile bike ride which brought us to the area. Our hosts are very accommodating and super friendly people. When I thought I lost my ring in my room, I called and asked them if they find it when they clean the room- if they could let me know , they immediately went to check the room, found it and called me back! Theresa and her team will treat you right and do anything in their power to make you feel welcome. Do yourself a favor: support the local economy and small business and stay the night, or two read more

What a wonderful place to stay. The rooms were extremely nice and comfortable. The manager, Jim, was as helpful and accommodating as an innkeeper could be. The hotel is located overlooking a beautiful vista worth the cost of the room alone. I would recommend Whitcomb Summit to anyone visiting the area. It is convenient to the North Adamstown/Williamstown area as well as the attractions along the Mohawk trail. read more

My wife and I recently stayed at this wonderful spot for wedding in the area. The location is absolutely beautiful and the hotel is quaint and very comfortable. I understand that the property is under new management and we were fortunate to meet the new owners. They were warm and inviting and made every effort to ensure our stay was enjoyable. The rooms are large, airy, and clean. They contain a mini-fridge, microwave, and breakfast/snacks. We have no complaints whatsoever. The best feature of this property is the amazing view. All rooms have a 100% unobstructed view of the mountains and skyline. This is breathtaking as the hotel sits at a higher elevation - see photo. There is good wifi and I had spotty cell service (Verizon). I would highly recommend and return again. read more

Stayed at the Whitcomb Summit a few months back & had a great experience. The location is quiet with a gorgeous view of the mountains. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The owner, Jim, was friendly went above and beyond with hospitality making us feel right at home. The rooms were even provided with make-up removing wipes! This Fall's foliage was the brightest, most fiery I've seen in over a dozen years. Luckily I was able to secure a room at the Whitcomb Summit Retreat, with its towering view over many hills and valleys. Whitcomb Summit Retreat boasts a remarkable location, with breathtaking views from every room, and wonderful balcony-like walkways with chairs to allow guests to sit and enjoy the incomparable scene below. The sunrise is dazzling, especially as we are perched above the fog in the valleys. The room was generous, the linen was classy and crisp, the smart TV was new, and even the bathroom rug was fine thick cotton. The wireless was strong. Breakfast is the usual motel fare, but with plenty of choices: bagels, juices, yogurts, coffees, and even Tazo English Breakfast tea! And did I mention that the price is right? Room rents are very reasonable. The manager Jim is a gracious host and glad to help with recommendations about the area. His accommodating attitude seems grounded in his concern for his guests' comfort. There was no downside to my stay. I recommend the splendid Whitcomb Summit Retreat without reservation and I personally will return again. read more

Not bad. 125/night but very clean, friendly, nice continental breakfast and sweet views. Not much to do in walking distance but they have a bar. Kind of on the pricey side for what you get but it was high season. We hope to find something in Shelburne Falls next time... read more

A fantastic view, and even better, a fantastic owner that is really vested in making sure that his guests are completely satisfied. We'll definitely be returning! Our stay there started off a little rocky - we were woken up at 1:00 AM by a group of guests that were there for a reunion, and partying right outside our door. I asked them if they could move down to the other end of the motel (The owner had mentioned that when we arrived that we were only one of two rooms at a fully booked motel that were not part of the reunion). There was no issue - they moved on and my wife and I fell back asleep. We got up in the morning and went hiking for the day. When we got back we received a call from the owner and I went down to his office to see what was going on. Apparently, one of the guests had mentioned to him that they woke up us, and the owner apologized - sincerely, knocked a good chunk of our bill, and passed on the invitation of the re-union group to join them at their barbecue that night (which was so kind of them!). The owner didn't need to do that - it was a fluke occurrence, but he took the initiative to get out in front of it, which would never happen at a corporate owned facility. The room we had was very clean and really quite large - I wish I had known about this place when our kids were younger. It would have made a great weekend getaway where we could share a room and two queen beds. The kids would have loved the wide selection of free fruits, yogurts, cereals etc that are available in the office, and it's within minutes of so many great family activities. But alas, our kids lose out (but not myself and my wife!). Relative to chain hotels, this is a no frills place - no iron in the room, no glasses/ice bucket (but a fridge - again great for families), etc. But it only takes a minute to figure out that we really didn't miss them. I've been trying to put my finger on why I am looking so forward to returning, and I think it comes down to this... We go away to relax and not have to worry about anything, and I'm more confident that I'll get a worry free and super relaxing stay here than just about any place else. read more

I spent 3 relaxing days here for a bachelorette weekend. I have never felt more welcome at a hotel before. The owners were so nice and accommodating and always had smiles on their faces. The view from the hotel is breathtaking. I will definitely be coming back here again. read more

Great place to chill. Highly recommended. Prices are reasonable and great staff.

This motel has been recently renovated. The rooms are spacious, clean, have strong wi-fi connections (a pleasant surprise for us - it's not advertised), and satellite TV. The views are absolutely gorgeous as the motel is on top of a mountain. The breakfast that is included is good - a large selection of cereals, fruits, bread, and bagels + Juice and Coffee. Best of all, the rates are very reasonable. This would be a wonderful leaf peeping destination - if you can get reservations (that's high season for this part of Massachusetts)! The owner is renovating the restaurant which should be done by 2015. It's reasonably near North Adams and East Berkshire ski area on Route 2. Our cell service (T-Mobile) worked if you went outside to get the signal. As mentioned by others, the owner Jim is very accommodating and friendly. There are lots of hiking in the area, ziplines at the Ski Resort in the summer, and lots of art galleries in North Adams and Shelburne Falls. We'll be staying here again after Christmas (assuming snow is on the ground) for snowshoeing and skiing for our son. read more

Let me say first that the view is incredible. This place you step out of your door and are met with a spectacular view of the mountains. My group bought out the hotel this past weekend for the 2nd year and it was simply amazing. What it lacks in amenities and services it makes up for in spectacular views, peace and tranquility. The fresh mountain air has a magical effect on the psyche. The rooms are immaculate with crisp fresh linens and fluffy towels I had the same room 2 years in a row, and even the bed was new. Jim is one of the best hoteliers I have ever had the pleasure of working with. He rolled out the red carpet for my group and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. read more

Located along the Mohawk Trail in Florida, MA, Whitcomb Summit Retreat is a true gem. I have stayed here twice with my fiance since it came under new ownership-one night in July and two nights over Columbus Day weekend. The property is going through changes and updates and we certainly noticed the continued care and improvements in October. As many have stated, the sunrises (preferably viewed from the second floor porch with a cup of coffee) are truly not to be missed. Jim is a joy to chat with while waiting for the fresh brewed coffee, and really is so welcoming, kind, and accommodating. My only complaints are no ice machine and no coffee til 8 am, but the customer service and views make up for that many times over. We look forward to returning. read more

Newly re-opened with a really great staff and fresh feel. Beautiful views and close to downtown North Adams. Affordable rooms too! A+

We booked 2 nights at this business a week before. When we arrived we were told that we only had the room we had booked for one night and had to move to a room the second day. We were never able to reach Scott Craig to obtain our room key and ended up sleeping on a couch somewhere else, causing much stress and lack of sleep due to driving to and from the lodge to our workshop. . He told us there was no cell service despite there being 4 G and free wi-fi at the facility. We were instructed to use a phone in a box with the business cell phone number written in marker on the box. The phone HAD NO BATTERIES and was useless. No one answered the business number despite numerous attempts to reach them from our cell phones. Mr. Craig said he had just taken over the business and blamed all problems on "Jim" claiming he was fixing up messes made by "Jim"However our confirmation (which said we had booked TWO nights) was from Scott Craig himself. I called twice to confirm our reservations prior to arriving. I abhor dishonesty and lack of responsibility. I cannot recommend this business. Our attempts to resolve this issue have been unsuccessful.THere are no other facilities nearby. There is no access to food services within a 1/2 hour to hour's drive and none that are open after 5 pm. NOT AN HONEST man. read more
