Great stay! Exceeded expectations because of the lovely and very accommodating Ann Marie. The morning view and yoga on the front porch was exactly what I needed. LOTS to do and eat in the area.

Returned for our second reunion at the Whitcomb. What a spectacular weekend! Jim went ALL OUT to make us feel welcomed and the rooms were even nicer than last year. Our room was clean and cozy and the view from the balcony is like nothing you're going to get at the hotels in the area---breathtaking!!! The Whitcomb is secluded, a quick drive to North Adams' downtown (MCLA, MassMOCA) and at the end of the day, you can return to a spacious room with a view! If you want valet parking, luxury soaps, a live band and a mini-bar, go elsewhere--but if you want a clean room, a peaceful setting, and a good price, stay at the top of the mountain.

Hawk Mountain Lodge - The Millers Room

Location, location, location…read more.. That is about all this place had going for it. Located right between Zoar Outdoor rafting and zip lining it was super convenient to stay here for 1 night. Sadly, this place was a bit pricey for what you were getting. There is no breakfast included it is strictly lodging. There is tea and coffee though in the main living room. There is also a mini fridge and microwave should you choose to bring anything small. There are three bedrooms located downstairs I assume with their own bathrooms, though I am unsure because there is a bathroom downstairs that has two doors - one is accessible through the bedroom and one through the living room. There are three additional bedrooms upstairs and one bathroom to share. We stayed in the Millers room upstairs which had a queen bed with a small love-seat and a cot in the closet. There were fans and towels in the room. There were not much window coverings so the morning light would surely wake you up. The bed was not very comfortable and the pillows were quite flat. Obviously, this place is a bit old and feels like your grandmother's house most likely. Wallpaper, flowery decor etc. I just can't give this place more stars because it only has the convenience going for it. There were some bugs and the wallpaper was peeling. It didn't feel the cleanest, but I know the linens were at least washed. The manager was very friendly as well. Overall this place felt more like $60 and not $90. I'm not sure if I would stay here again. If you're going to stay here, there's no traditional check in. At the side entrance on the porch there is a sign with your name and the room you're staying in. You let yourself in the house and find your room. All the doors are clearly labeled with their name. The key to lock your door is already in the door knob. ****CAUTION: make sure your key locks and unlocks your door before you shut it! We locked and closed our door taking our key out, but when we returned our key wouldn't unlock the door. Even though it fit in the keyhole, it wouldn't turn and unlock it. We were able to get in touch with the manager via a walkie-talkie hanging on a billboard in front of the Zoar retail shop. He helped us obtain the correct key. Breakfast: We drove about 15 minutes to Shelburne Falls and ate at Foxtown Diner. It is a bit overpriced, but it was really good and worth the drive. The town is also cute and makes for a nice walk.

It was a really cool place that obviously holds a lot of history, and learning a little more about Charlemont made us appreciate the lodge even more. We went out and sat by the outdoor firepit, hiked nearby trails, and had a great view of the nearby mountain from our room (Millers). It was also a great location, easy to drive to nearby towns and restaurants. Thanks to Zoar and the Mountain Lodge staff for a great, relaxing, and memorable weekend.

The breakfast that was included in it, though repetitive was fabulous and thoughtful. Bagels, cream cheese, lox, hard boiled eggs, yogurts, fresh juices, coffees and teas. We had 2 breakfasts and took the same things. Bagels, lox and cream cheese, OJ, coffee, eggs. There are a couple. of baked goods that were very disappointing. They should upgrade those definitely. The rooms were fine. We were automatically upgraded to a suite because we paid in advance and went mid-week. The bathroom was lovely, nothing to change. The hallways and rooms were a bit dated. Fresh paint, cool colors, but old. The room AC units were loud too. Was ok but wouldn't return. In the hallways there is great unusual art. Like what you would put into your own home which is cool and unusual. The colors they chose to decorate with were wonderful. But, for example, we had a painted old wooden floor with throw rugs. A bit uneven. Not something I'd ever put into our home. The grounds were very nice. It was nice weather when we were there, and we brought bathing suits but the pool was covered with leaves. They are expanding which is cool. Mass Moca is right there which is nice, and this was very centrally located which is also nice.

Lesa welcomed us when we arrived after dinner and made us feel at home with homemade baked goods and wine. Our rooms were lovely, and although the manor is two hundred years old, it has all the amenities one would expect in modern accommodations. The beds are extremely comfortable as well. Breakfast was a treat, a feast of local yogurt, homemade scones, tea cake, frittata, fruit, and ham. Lesa is the perfect host--warm, welcoming, accommodating, talented in the kitchen, and genuinely concerned with providing her guests with a wonderful getaway. If I believed any place I was reviewing was terrible I would never say it was awesome, so just because I know the innkeeper doesn't mean I'm sugarcoating my experience. I wanted to share that I think the Blackinton Manor is a lovely place to stay in the Berkshires. The hostess really cares about her guests' full experience. She strives to use locally sourced products whenever she can. She wants everyone to feel like they are comfortable and at home in her home, and I definitely felt comfortable here. And she makes yummy and hearty breakfasts. If you're lucky enough to be served the sticky buns, you're in for a real treat. Stay here. You won't regret it. Things to note: She does have a dog, who while friendly and gentle, is still a dog and will be at the Manor while you're there. So if you're not a dog person, this might not be the place for you. Also, if you have food allergies or restrictions, be sure to disclose them. She'll ask when you arrive but it's nice to let her know in advance so she can prepare for your stay and make your meal as yummy and accommodating as possible.

The lobby is stunning, with beautiful windows and views, but unfortunately I think that's where the renovation stopped. Our room felt dated, particularly the loud air conditioning unit that kept me up for most of the night (my bad for having forgotten to bring earplugs) and the fake wooden flooring gave the room a particularly sterile feel (though I suppose also makes it easier to clean than carpet flooring?). Oddly enough, the room did have a microwave, which I don't usually see in anything other than long-term stays with a kitchenette. The bathroom was an exercise in cramped, poor design. After standing up to turn on the water for the shower, I immediately banged my head against the metal rack for the towels. The toilet was very low and way too close to the door, so, if you wanted to open or shut the door, you had to stand right up against the sink. The cherry on top was the dark water stains along the bottom of the shower curtain. Amenities: Just the basics with hand soap, lotion, body wash, S&C. We forgot toothpaste but the front desk had us covered. The lady who checked us in and gave me bandaids for my uncomfortable heels at the end of the night was super sweet! Parking lot was free overnight.
