Giovanni's Red Rose Motel - Standard 2 queen beds and side chairs

Giovanni's Red Rose Motel

The pros of my stay have been the peace, the quiet and the solitude up in the mountains. The family…read moreis very accommodating with what you need if you ask for it. The rooms are very very clean, along with very clean sheets and towels!! They have everything you need in them as well. They allowed me to check in at 6am for my stay verses having me check in at 6am and check out at 11am. It's up on a hill away from the traffic, so it's very quiet. You're not going to find any rif raf here at this motel from drug addicts and loud disrespectful people. You're gonna find Travelors, families, and people just rolling through for a good nights rest here. The refrigerators are really spacious as well!! The beds are super comfy for a good nights rest. Although the bathrooms for a single person are really small, there's still room in there to move around. Most of the items are up to date except for a couple of things that could be upgraded. Plus the heat works well and keeps the room nice and toasty. Everywhere has some cons: So I would recommend replacing the grip tape in the shower for protection of people like myself who are a fall risk. Also New England is starting to drop down at night but still gets hot during the day, so I would recommend fixing the window unit. I would recommend getting locked trash cans for outside, since we are in the woods and there are bears. Otherwise it's a really lovely homey space and I would definitely come back here!! I give it four and a half stars but you cant do half on yelp!

It was nice, and very welcome to find with a vacancy on the Friday night of a holiday weekend…read more(Labor Day) after a long drive from North Adams on the steep, sometimes twisty, scary, dark Mohawk Trail (Rte 2 East!) Actually, early Saturday morning since it was well past midnight. Very comfortable and cozy, though a bunch of noisy people right outside my window prevented me from sleeping in very long! But that's no fault of management, of course. My friend from college had some other guests at the home he shares with his wife a few minutes away, so there's $160 with tax I'll never see again. But the hotel in No. Adams I had stopped in at and inquired about rates an hour and a half earlier was out of control at $210 that night. Clerk at that hotel gave me another for another hotel in No. Adams, and it was even worse at $350. So Giovanni's was welcome find indeed, and the gentleman I awoke (occupational hazard, right?) was a paisan originally from Brooklyn, like all my late father's peeps! Fuhgeddaboudit! I had started by little five-day busman's holiday in Great Barrington in the Berkshires, and it turns out there are tons of ex-patriate Brooklynites who seem to have had enough of urban agita in NYC and sought refuge in rural Massachusetts. And I have to say I don't blame them a bit, though I will love New York until my last breath.

I'm going to be extremely fair in my review and explain all details and why. I know many people…read morelove this place, and I was so excited to go here but I need to be very honest in the ways they can improve and why 3 stars and not 5 stars from us. The booking and check in process was smooth and easy. The front staff were very friendly on the phone and in person. They walked us around to show us the grounds. Our room was exactly as we expected so no surprise there. It was ready when we arrived, clean and stocked with the basics (towel, soap). We didn't have high expectations for a new/updated room as the photos are exactly how the room was. No fancy frills but clean and absolutely fine to stay in. The beds are not that comfortable but fine. The wall paper in farm house 6 was peeling a bit and wear and tear around the unit was present but we did expect the room to be outdated and didn't have any issues over all with the room. The main reason for our 3 star is really based on food, amenities, and grounds. As for food, do not have high expectations as it's very basic. I would rate it 2 at best, but it's all inclusive and does feed the mass groups. Our waitress the first night was awful, we didn't eat for almost an hour. She told us she was rusty and not ready for the groups yet. Little weird, but I guess she was being honest. The other night/day team were much better and more competent. One odd thing we did notice, food is not in abundance when it's put out for guests to grab. Once something runs out, it runs out. I'm all for not wasting food, that's very important but we noticed often food would run out (cookies, appetizers, and other items to grab-go). For example, the cocktail adults evening, majority of the finger appetizers ran out. Another night, they had watermelon for dessert and it ran out. Ultimately, we can't say we didn't eat, we did, some items just would run out and that was it in terms of offerings. Another concern was the indoor pool, it was freezing. Like unable to swim at all -cold- cold. I would think summer time the pools outside are much better, but we didn't try those as it was too early in the season (April). The toys on the main lawn near the sand pit and volleyball area are all broken and worn out. One of the swings broken and missing. The kiddie barn is broken where the kids play. The boats near the lake are all broken and dingy. I understand this place is more about family legacy and farm life, which yes is special, but most things I found are falling apart around the main lawn area especially. Just in general, broken or not cared for. I am not expecting anything to be brand new or perfect but they're run down. We did most of the kid events and the play doh was all dried out and the crafts very limited. We felt there could've been a few more kid friendly events going on (maybe a movie, more crafts, outdoor music/games, outdoor events). The activity staff seemed really uninterested when it came to many of the events too which was unfortunate. Rather than really engage the kids they often stood around. These are the main reasons for our 3 star review. The concept and legacy idea for families is awesome, but the upkeep just isn't there and not as much engagement as we hoped. I love being outdoors, and for my kids to enjoy their time outside and farm life but they need to clean up a bit here. A few things we did love, to be fair and honest, the farm animals, Pony Ride, Easter egg hunt, and magic show. They were fun and engaging. Also, my kids absolutely loved trying to get eggs from the Hens (despite the limited number, but that's not East Hill's fault, that's just kiddos who claim them all and run away before others get a chance to grab one from the Hens). I also had a massage, that's not East Hill, but their outside vendor they use in their main lobby. It wasn't very good. The lady was nice but the chair massage was not relaxing or enjoyable. She barely massaged me. I wouldn't recommend spending $20 on this add on. This spot has so much incredible potential if they just maintained it better. Such special memories for families to create here. I get leaving the rooms nostalgic and maybe the farm areas, but the grounds, toys, arts and crafts and a few other areas could use some upkeep. Unfortunately that's why this is only a 3 star from our family.

Lots of charming details and touches like the Afternoon Tea from 2:30 - 5:00 pm with cookies and small dessert bars for hotel guests or pay a fee for visitors. Pros: - The carafe of ice water in the room and Biscoff cookies - very much appreciated - Elevator or stairs to the 2nd floor where the rooms were located. Bookshelf of books. - Keurig coffee / tea on the 2nd floor for 24 hours coffee/tea service plus business center with computer and printer. - Room 143 Cora Carlisle on the 2nd floor - lovely, spacious, and comfortable - Plenty of hot water and huge bath towels - Bed was comfortable and room was quiet - Champney's margarita flight was quite good and big enough to share. - Continental breakfast included - muffin, melon sliced fruit, plain yogurt, coffee - The porch with chairs was very nice to sit outside and there was a sitting area with games and a puzzle in the lobby - Air conditioning and heat - room was comfortable - Parking in front of the hotel Cons: - The sink faucet/taps and shower tap metal was a bit discolored with the gold tone worn away. Everything worked fine though. - The string to lower the blinds next to the toilet was non-existent. - Additional housekeeping gratuity added to the bill - The Continental breakfast could have been improved with more fruit (other than cantaloupe and green melon), hard boiled egg. There wasn't a lot of food put out and the coffee was a bit watery. - Slight musty smell downstairs made me cough but rooms were fine. Overall, Deerfield was a charming, historic hotel and I would stay again and come on a Wednesday - Saturday to visit historic Deerfield buildings.

Pro - location. Northampton is a great little town…read more Also, the front desk staff is extremely friendly and is doing their best to go above and beyond. But, I had to knock off a star because the Wifi in the rooms doesn't work. This is a massive disappointment for what is supposed to be a modern hotel. As is the case with technical things, I assumed it was a me problem. The friendly front desk staff explained that the public WiFi works fine but the guest Wifi is problematic. This means that after driving for 2 hours and arriving hangry and with hours worth of work to do, I have to sit in the lobby to get anything done. It is challenging to focus because there are other groups here talking. I am loyal to the Marriott brand and have the gold lifetime elite to prove it, but I don't think I will stay in this hotel again. After a day of work, I want to be able to settle in my room, order some food, take my bra off, and do the work I need to do to get ready for the next day. So I must say, this is a huge disappointment.

They have wine and beer for sale. Neither selection is great but duckhorn reds are a strong option. No IPAs for beer and that's disappointing. Wifi was also disappointing and the TV was very strange, rebooting several times before we could watch anything. Hot water seemed limited when we were there but perhaps they were booked up and we were all using it at once? We enjoyed our stay and will return.
