Lovely, small inn from 1884 adjacent to the Deerfield Academy grounds and among the Historic Deerfield buildings. Lots of charming details and touches like the Afternoon Tea from 2:30 - 5:00 pm with cookies and small dessert bars for hotel guests or pay a fee for visitors. Pros: - The carafe of ice water in the room and Biscoff cookies - very much appreciated - Elevator or stairs to the 2nd floor where the rooms were located. Bookshelf of books. - Keurig coffee / tea on the 2nd floor for 24 hours coffee/tea service plus business center with computer and printer. - Room 143 Cora Carlisle on the 2nd floor - lovely, spacious, and comfortable - Plenty of hot water and huge bath towels - Bed was comfortable and room was quiet - Champney's margarita flight was quite good and big enough to share. - Continental breakfast included - muffin, melon sliced fruit, plain yogurt, coffee - The porch with chairs was very nice to sit outside and there was a sitting area with games and a puzzle in the lobby - Air conditioning and heat - room was comfortable - Parking in front of the hotel Cons: - The sink faucet/taps and shower tap metal was a bit discolored with the gold tone worn away. Everything worked fine though. - The string to lower the blinds next to the toilet was non-existent. - Additional housekeeping gratuity added to the bill - The Continental breakfast could have been improved with more fruit (other than cantaloupe and green melon), hard boiled egg. There wasn't a lot of food put out and the coffee was a bit watery. - Slight musty smell downstairs made me cough but rooms were fine. The inn was lovely and we had a very large comfortable room. Their website does state they offer muffins for breakfast included in your room charge or you may go to their restaurant if you want a more substantial breakfast. Not being big breakfast eaters, we figured we'd grab a muffin. There was a small table that had a pot of coffee and 2 wrapped muffins on a plate. There was no other option for drinks such as tea, water or juice. There was a hostess there who seated people in the restaurant and after asking she brought us 2 bottles of water. When we took our muffins, she added 2 more to the plate. We had dinner in Champney's the night we arrived and it was very good. It was busy for a Tuesday night and the bartender never got my drink made until we were finished with dinner but they did take it off the bill. While they do clearly state that they add $15/day for tips that they split between housekeeping, the front desk staff and the breakfast staff - which I found strange as who is normally tipping the person who checks you in or the one who refills a coffee pot, I was more perturbed by the fact that on top of this they still had an envelope in the room for tips for housekeeping. I've never seen this done before where they are basically asking you to tip twice. The inn is in a lovely location and as far as historic Deerfield they are the only restaurant though Greenfield and other small towns are close by. read more

We came back to one of our favorite restaurants in the Deerfield area. The meals were awesome Mac 'n cheese, Belgian fries, salmon, it's all good here. My wife ordered a ginger martini, which she loved. I ordered several glasses of the house Cabernet, which was very good. This place is over an hour away from home, but well worth the drive. I'd like to place a wonderful review of the Deerfield Inn! OIR ROOM: We stayed Jan 2 - 4, 2024 in the King Suite (room158) in the Carriage house, connected to the main Inn. It was beautiful, very roomy with a giant living area with fireplace, TV, Keurig machine with coffee, teas and creamers in the mini refrigerator. Comfortable couch and California King sized bed, which was very comfy also. Champneys restaurant: beautiful restaurant in the main Inn. Prices were noticeably lower than most places I've been to particularly in these times. Example: Free homemade muffins, coffee, tea and juice each morning, but if you order from the hot menu, you receive 20% off each morning. We had omelettes that were huge filled with veggies and one filled with plenty of bacon. Home fries are fresh and the toast selection is perfect. The fruit cup is fresh. So, two omelettes with toast home fries and meat with two coffees and a juice with the discount only cost $21.50. Perfect. Dinner selection is for everyone including those with Gluten sensitivities. We had their lamb & beef Shepard's pie with a side salad, tenderloin tips with mashed and mixed, fresh veggies, two glasses of wine and two craft beers for $100. Can't beat that! DJ was our bartender, in college for dating, we loved him and his attention to detail as well as his u pique way of mixing drinks loudly as he walked around the little bar (the other customers agreed as well). Very professional! The staff: Kyle (female) checked us in and she was extremely thorough describing the area and what to do and see with a map of the Inn as well as many historic site seeing. She was also very helpful with the many question we had. The rest of the staff, which I can't remember names, were wonderful as well and there were many young staff members, but they all had a job to do and did it well! Management: on Jan 3rd, my husband noticed the showers were lukewarm and he likes a hot shower, we also over heard Kyle speaking to maintenance regarding this issue and it seemed likely they many not be able to resolve it quickly for one reason or another, but she tried her best. Upon checking out his am, the manager, Laurie, asked how my stay was and I said, "wonderful except for the very lukewarm, have to jump out of the shower quickly shower!" After explaining to Laurie that Bryan, another Manager of sorts, didn't think he would be able to see that resolved until today when we checked out, she said it was unacceptable and took 50% off our bill! 50% was $302! Isn't that amazing! Sorry for the long review, but I wanted to explain in detail as many only complain without explaining all of the details! Definitely will be back in the spring! I was a student at Deerfield Academy from '78 to '82 and remember when the Inn burned down. We rushed in the middle of the night from our studies at the library and quickly formed a fire brigade line pulling furniture out of the Inn. We had to do what little we could to help save this important landmark. I remember the numerous traditional New England meals I celebrated here with my family, and especially the Indian Pudding, a rare treat. Glad to know the Deerfield Inn is still thriving in its glory. Can't vouch for the Inn; we had lunch at the Inn's restaurant, Champney's. The establishment is the only game in town, if you are visiting Historic Deerfield. The dining room is part of the charming and historic Deerfield Inn. We were there on a pleasant Spring day so seating was available on the front porch. The surroundings somewhat made up for the lackluster food and poky service. The sandwich I ordered was nothing out of the ordinary although the scallops my partner ordered were fresh and perfectly cooked. If we were to return to this historic hamlet, we'd take our money and go down the road to Northampton. read more

Not worth the wait. After waiting for our simple, uncomplicated entrees for more than an hour, I was disappointed with the less than mediocre presentation that eventually arrived. The oven brick baked chicken was not only a challenge to cut, it was tasteless and unappealing in its appearance, It required a steak knife to dissect and was accompanied by uninspiring grits and what tasted like leftover collard greens. The well meaning but rarely seen wait staff was apologetic for the lengthy wait and even offered a complimentary dessert to compensate. My wife and I have stayed at the Deerfield Inn three times and each stay has been wonderful. The staff is always so friendly, polite, and helpful. The kitchen brought food up to my wife when I was feeling sick during one visit (several years ago) and they have upgraded my room without me even asking. Anything we have asked about, they have been more than happy to accommodate. The rooms have always been clean and the food always delicious. Most recently we stayed for the Rabbie Burns supper, which was fantastic. We look forward to staying there again. read more

It's really unfortunate that there is literally no other full service hotel option in Deerfield, MA. The Deerfield Inn certainly knows this, and their close proximity to Deerfield Academy allows them to be mediocre in every respect of their service, from rude treatment at the front desk, to the cleanliness of the rooms, to the quality of food served in the restaurant. Myself and many of my wedding guests filled the entire inn the night of my wedding. They had been experiencing flooding in recent weeks, so the whole place smelled moldy and damp on the ground floor. My father's room actually smelled like sewage, which I did report to the front desk upon check out (with no result, obviously). The suite I had (in the carriage house) was used to get ready the morning of the wedding, and when we pulled the couch aside to make room for the hairdressers, the floor under it was littered with chips, crumbs, and bits of trash. Completely disgusting. Beyond that, no maid service EVER came to my room (which I had from Friday afternoon through Sunday) and I ended up spending my wedding night amidst piles of trash and empty containers from the morning. Next, two of my guests and I had breakfast in the inn's dining room. I was served an omelette alongside an English muffin which was literally soaked in cooking oil and served on my plate. The oil was so abundant that it came off the muffin and soaked into the omelette. Needless to say, the entire thing was inedible. Lastly, to put the proverbial icing on the cake, two of my guests overheard staff at the front desk COMPLAINING about the fact that we booked up the entire inn and didn't have the wedding there. I'm sorry, was filling your entire inn on an otherwise slow weekend, when there were no events at the academy not acceptable to you? Even more ridiculous is the fact that the Deerfield Inn couldn't even accommodate my wedding to begin with, as I had 240 guests and their maximum capacity is no more than 150. Do yourself a favor and avoid the Deerfield Inn at all costs. read more

I am giving you an example: if you call and you are a returning customer, they acknowledge it, calling you by your name and going back checking your previous reservation and notes related to it. Not impressed by Champney's. Service was slow even when the restaurant was empty. I ordered steak tips, and received only five small ones, but to their credit they were cooked properly. My friends seemed to enjoy their burgers. The brownie dessert was good. Bonus for the friendly bartender and the fact that they sell cigars at the bar. My Girlfriend and I stayed here on a whim just before Valentines day (in 2014). My plan was to get dinner at Chandler's in Yankee candle as they do a wine tasting the first Friday every month. Looking for hotels I found this place and thought it seemed nice. It is now the standard by which we hold every other hotel/Inn/Bed&Breakfast at which we stay. It was everything we could ask for, old classic feel upon check in, friendly staff. The room was perfect; new but kept the theme and then we got a free delicious breakfast in the morning! This year we're going back, but eating at Champney's (the Deerfield Inn's restaurant) and I'm certain it won't disappoint. I HIGHLY recommend this establishment if you are in the area, and they are a member of Select Registry (selectregistry.com) which from the (3 other) Inns I've stayed at, there is definitely a high quality standard I should mention price, it is not a budget hotel, but, you get what you pay for AND THEN SOME. On a wish and a hope I called around to local restaurants asking if they'd be willing to deliver a Thanksgiving dinner to a family member who was going to be alone on Thanksgiving this year. Although they do not typically provide this service they were so happy to accommodate and graciously hand delivered the most delicious, warm and meaningful dinner right to the door! My husband and I just recently stayed at the Deerfield Inn as part of our honeymoon. We loved our room and the staff was great. Each room is named after a person from Deerfield's history and brief biography is provided which is great if your are history buff. The newly redone Champney's was very nice and the food was delicious and the wait staff was very courteous and accomodating. We had breakfast and lunch there. We had our wedding reception here a few years ago and I should have left a review then. Jane and Karl, the innkeepers, are phenomenal! They took care of every concern that we had, and addressed the ones we hadn't even thought of. They go above and beyond to make sure that every aspect, and every guest's experience was remarkable and not soon forgotten! People still remember the great night we all had. The reason I am rrviewing today however is for the shower ee had for our first child. There wasn't any other choice when deciding on a venue. The brunch was superb, the bar was varied and staffed by friendly knowledgable people, the newly renovated Champney's was well appointed and very comfortable, and a great time was had by all! We stayed at the Deerfield Inn for 4 nights for our son's wedding in historical Deerfield over the July 4 weekend. The rooms have been remodeled and are spacious and charming. The front desk staff was welcoming and able to accommodate changes as our guest list changed. Make reservations early on a holiday or fall weekend. One of our favorite parts of the stay was the complimentary breakfast. Every dish was delicious, and the service was suburb. Choices included French toast with locally produced maple syrup, homemade jams, eggs, toast, bacon, fresh fruit, eggs benedict, daily specials, and a delightful portion of fresh greens. For those of you who visited in the past, please try the Inn again - I think you will be glad you did. read more

Met our son and daughter in law, sat some more on porch, then asked if we could be served dinner on the porch. Staff was great and did so.
