This restaurant was recommended by our hotel concierge for its proximity to the Roman Colosseum; its fresh, tasty authentic regional cuisine; friendliness, and reasonable price point. It scored on all counts! My companion & I shared a delicious bottle of Amarone with a little bag of crusty, fresh bread. Our meal of fresh, Al dente pasta, smokey tomato sauce, zucchini and black olive powder went beautifully with the meatball dish. We finished with decaf coffee drinks and a creamy tiramisu. Every member of the staff was friendly and helpful in suggesting menu selections. High recommendations.

First time in the Colosseum area and we were roaming for food in the evening. Knew we wanted to find something further out from the tourist zone and started making our way toward a spot called Le Tavernelle because their seafood looked great. Turned out it was a real busy time for them so we decided on Barzilai next door and the four of us were sat immediately. 4/5 for service 3.9/5 for food 4/5 for ambiance Sat outside for the full bistro feel, plus the interior of the restaurant was super warm for our mid October visit. Service was punctual and helpful (by this time on the trip, we were accustomed to the cursory inconvenient expressions because of our language barrier, but it typically melted away shortly afterwards). The individual who appeared to be the man in charge was helpful in suggesting a wine for us, and after asking "do you trust me," we were relieved he hadn't selected an obscenely priced bottle for the non-Italian speaking tourists. He was kind enough to offer some off menu modifications, like an additional side of basic pasta to accompany the meatball entree, based on our questions about the menu. We ordered a ham and buffalo mozzarella, and a cold eggplant parmigiana for appetizers (bread in paper bag had to be refilled/requested 3x because we were starving, I think it cost $2 euro extra each after the first - see receipt), two meatball entrees (with two accompanying sides of basic pasta noodles and red sauce, additional charge), amatriciana pasta, and branzino pasta with golden tomatoes (the fish was already flaked and tossed with the pasta and tomatoes) for four adults. Oh and two bottles of wine and we forgot to ask for "tap" water so we got the aqua charge. Tasty water though haha :) We were very full as you can imagine and the damage wasn't too bad on the wallet. Yes, we did leave a tip! For a final meal in Rome, it left us wanting, but the ambiance, interactions, and experience were well worth the stop. One of the risks when you wander with no set plans, but we left with some good memories. Just wish I caught a picture of the cute set up with the twinkly lights and intimate table setting.

Grabbed lunch here on our first day in Rome. My husband and I shared a pasta dish and the meat and cheese platter. The pasta was fine, but the meat and cheese platter was large and delish! We also grabbed a few glasses of wine. Service was kind. No complaints!

We started to bar hop and ended up here. We sat outside and it was such a nice vibe. The wine was excellent. I got a glass of Cabernet. The server was friendly. I highly recommend!

    Gamberi (prawns). Very good.

Chicken in beef broth with asparagus and panko crusted cod

Had the best chicken breast and asparagus, potato and mushroom Soup, Panko crusted cod and red wine here! The service was impeccable and the food was so flavorful. Best food in Rome!

Authentic Italian restaurant with lively atmosphere and exceptional food. The anti pasta plate was awesome as well as the house red wine. They also have a good selection of Italian beers. Seems to be popular with the local residents so it must be good! Definately try it. Service is great too!

I came here for a dinner while traveling solo, and this place was great - not too loud or crowded and is great for someone who is solo, dining with one other person or up to a group of 6. The place is not huge, so I don't think 8+ people would be able to fit in here with the way the tables are set up, but you may want to call ahead so they can rearrange things if this is your case. I got a salad, along with a pasta, but I could have ordered just a salad, or just a pasta and that would have been enough food. The portions here are quite large, but I was dining solo and wanted to be able to have some salad or something healthy to balance out all the pasta I had eaten all week in Italy. The salad that I had was delicious and had a lot of tuna, artichokes, and came with tomatoes. It was similar to a French Nicoise salad, and it was one of the better salads I had in Italy, and I would get this again, and recommend it if you're looking for something healthier to eat. The Amatriciana pasta (9€) was really good; I never had a bad plate of Amatriciana pasta in Rome and this was no exception. The pasta was al dente, the pork cheek (bacon) was crispy and flavorful, and the portion was a good size. I'd get this again. They also have a few specials on the back wall written in chalk that I failed to see until after I had ordered. The service was a bit on the slower side, with a lot of the servers just chatting amongst themselves, but I lived in France for 2 years, so I was used slow service and I wasn't in a hurry. Overall, if I come back to this area again and need somewhere to eat, I'd come back here for good portions, good food, and reasonable prices.

Very nicebplace for great wine and spriters! We had a plate of cold cuts, mozzarella and tuna and it was great. The server thought we should try the aperol spritzer and it was great! Really nice setting!

Hands down one of my favourite spots in town. I'm a Roman who lived most of her life abroad and this place is the perfect combination of tradition and innovation. Lovely decor, friendly helpful staff, impeccable host make it a trendy, yet laid back place to grab a drink or spend the entire evening. Fresh, tasty food prepared with high quality ingredients, old recipes with a twist and solid wine list, make it the right place for dinner or a delicious snack. I keep coming back!

The issue I had was that I was in a super heavy tourist area and all of the restaurants we were walking past had people outside trying to lure us in. I wanted to avoid places like that, however via Yelp I discovered Il Chianti a short walk away. While still I assumed still touristy, the reviews were great and as we approached they weren't trying to lure us in, so we decided to try them out. I take this place is very popular since I noticed a sign instructing diners for form a line as we walked up to the restaurant. However, there was no line to be found and we were seated right away. Curb appeal is lovely, they have a decently-sized outdoor seating area though we opted to sit inside. The interior is a good size and compartmentalized into different rooms. The aesthetics are mostly classic with medium to dark wood tones. The menu contained some Tuscan dishes but also several that were more common outside of the region. We decided to start with two of their apps - a cheese plate and bread with fatty prosciutto, pistachio, and honey. The cheese plate was great, I love cheese and this one delivered - there was a good variety and the plate was paired with a few complements. The bread was great - the combination of the fatty prosciutto with the honey and nuts made for a great experience. There was a small salad in the center of the dish which was a welcome reprieve from the heaviness of the app. For my main I decided to get pasta - the paccheri with tomato sauce and burrata was speaking to me. The dish was great - pasta was cooked well and all of the components were super fresh. I've tried burrata in may settings but rarely in a pasta dish - it worked well and now I'll be seeking it out more often. Service was good - everyone was very friendly and there was a good pace to the rate our dishes came out. Overall, we had a great experience at Il Chianti - in a sea of touristy spots by the Trevi, this stands out as a noteworthy option for a good meal.

This is super disappointing because this restaurant is easily one of the highlights of the family's trip in Europe. Dal Toscano's history dates back to 1938 founded and still operated by the Bruni Family. This traditional Tuscan cuisine restaurant is super popular amongst locals and is well situated in the Prati Neighborhood in Rome and a stone throw from the Vatican. While dining there, 99% customers there are locals and the staff pretty much only spoke Italian. I am suspecting that is also why so many tourists wrote negative reviews because of communication difficulties. And yes there is a little bit of pretentiousness since it's a white table cloth experience geared up towards the working executives in the area. As for the foods they are best explained as "heavenly" as the bistecca and the pastas are really darn good. Despite the sanitary scare we will definitely be returning when we are back in Rome.

This is very much where the locals go. We were there for lunch and it was clear who were the regulars. Google reviews are mixed because the tourists don't seem to get a consistent experience. There are reviewers who say they got treated bad because they're asian. Well, maybe they deserved it...I know how asians in restaurants can be. I'm asian and i was treated and served very well, but i spoke to them in Italian the entire time; they knew we were clearly not locals. The food is ridiculously good and i felt i was treated well.
