Thank GOD for you yelpers! I have driven by here dozens of time on way to or from Redding. I was craving a burger around Red Bluff as I was heading south on 1-5. This place popped up and wow, was it a delicious experience!! Think late 60's or 70's Drive-in. Around ten stools at the counter and a few tables inside the place along with we a several metAl picnic tables out front. I ordered the giant burger and added pepper jack cheese and so the $6.55 burger became around $9. Add on some brewed ice tea and the total came to $14. The burgers are cooked on a flat top here. No flame. The patty is 8 oz or so and well seasoned. Nice crust on the patty. Standard fixings with tomato, green leaf lettuce, thin red onions and ketchup. I ordered it cooked medium and it was. Juicy and a little grease. It's definitely a three to five napkin burger. The brewed ice tea was tasty! Unsweetened and just the way I like it. They also offer old school shakes and malts here. Service was quIck and friendly here and they seem to do a very good business for such a small town. I guess when you do things right people come back. I know I'll be back on my next trip to Redding. I just wish I didn't live 2 plus hours away! read more

Got a giant burger meal($9.15) with fried jalapeños($0.50). I ate it. The meat tasted really fresh as did the lettuce, tomato, and onion. It was seasoned really well and it was cooked to what I ordered. The fries and the "fry sauce" were undoubtedly my favorite part. I even ate all my girlfriend's fries, hah! I couldn't control myself strangely. Now for the cons; flies. There were many flies buzzing around the entire resturant and they kept landing on me. It was quite annoying. The place as a whole wasn't very clean but for a hole in the wall that's not very important to me, it may be to you. Still worth a visit especially if your driving through the area. Great place!!! The Burgers and fries were very good but the milkshakes were amazing! They were made with real ice cream and were very thick and creamy. There were several flavors. I opted for salted caramel and my husband had chocolate. The young woman who helped us was very friendly and helpful. There were several outside picnic tables to sit at so was able to socially distance easily from other patrons. They are dog friendly and there were several dog bowls set outside. Driving back from Oregon saw the great reviews and decided to stop for lunch. Ordered a chicken sandwich and it was delicious! Cooked perfectly; juicy and flavorful. Good place to stop off the 5. Very classic, greasy burger joint feel. Nothing about the food that makes it absolutely stand out. Shakes were pretty good in spite of being chocolate syrup with vanilla for a chocolate shake (not the same as chocolate ice cream bases - don't try to deny it b/c you'd be wrong). Food takes a little while (probably b/c I ordered my onions grilled) but it's fresh burgers so not complaining. They got my 'medium rare' request just right and the service as really nice. Small retro diner on the opposite side of the highway from The Olive Pit. Decent food. Short-order with limited menu: burgers, a couple shakes, fries. I had the chicken burger. Basic; but tasty. Our whole party agreed the bread used for the burger buns was very good: soft, expertly-toasted on the grill. Service with a smile was appreciated. A remodel might help allay anyone's fears of eating at a divey establishment, but if you can look past the aging building and funky fan above the entrance you'll find the kitchen area clean and the food satisfying. read more

Just passing threw, we had just said how we wanted burgers and as soon as we got off the fwy there it was :) We opted to sit outside in the shade with our dogs it was 102 deg. They offered them water but we already had some. The staff was super sweet!! The hamburgers were super big! We got 2 #1's ( giant burger w/ fries and small soda. ( free refill) the root beer taste was a bit off but still not bad. The fries were not greasy they were crunchy and so good. We ordered our patties well done. The cheese on the burger was a decently thick slice. Oh and the fries sauce made everything just a bit tastier . $22 dollars well worth it! read more

Bartels Giant Burgers...Driving South on the last leg of a road trip to Seattle, we were southbound on Interstate 5 near the town of Corning, and getting more hungry by the second. I pulled out the iPhone and checked Yelp for a decent, but affordable place to eat, when up popped "Bartels Giant Burgers" with great ratings and a free soft drink E-coupon upon check-in! This sounded like a plan to us and we're so glad that we gave them a try! Their Corning location (10 miles from the middle of nowhere) is immediately off the Corning Road freeway off-ramp; and appeared to be just as easy to get back on to continue our trip South. The hubby and I ordered cheeseburgers and fries (with their special fries sauce) and he also had their orange-freeze, which really is a hidden gem! The restaurant is actually a re-purposed gas station, with plenty of seating outside if the inside is full. Restrooms are located outside and to the rear of the building (be sure to pick up the funny looking and rather large keys and key paddles to gain entry...try sneaking away with those babies in your pocket!). Food is easily ordered but takes a little longer to prepare since it is all made to order and not kept warm under lights, like so many fast food establishments. I enjoyed their cheeseburger and fries much more than my last outing to In-and-Out Burger (which is hard to beat), which is a definite complement to Bartels Burgers. That said, we would definitely stop here the next time we're in the area as they are simply that good, tasty; and the service was very friendly as well. This is such an odd place for this little burger joint. Literally out in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by a bunch of NOTHING is this insanely delicious burger place that is tiny and dingy and refreshing. The menu is small but still perfect, the prices are great, their bathrooms were clean. My only offense was that after we ordered the young lady walked around swatting the flies that got in on the heels of customers. Doesn't bother me TOO much simply because- well... at least they were dealt with instead of letting them hang out with the food. I think I have found my favorite hamburger place! My husband and I regularly travel I-5, and today we decided to stop at Giant Burger in Corning and try it out. We were not disappointed. I had a Giant Burger with cheddar, lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayo, mustard, thousand island, with a side of fries. My husband had a grilled chicken sandwich with lettuce, bacon, cheddar, mayo and mustard, plus fries. Both the burger and the chicken sandwich were prepared fresh, using high-quality ingredients. The lettuce was tender, the tomato firm but ripe, the bun was large and fluffy. My hamburger was seasoned just perfectly, and the meat was succulent and very tender with no gristle or chewiness. Likewise, the chicken was moist and tender, grilled to perfection, and the cook knew how to work the grill, using a skillet lid to maximize moisture and even cooking. The fries were also exceptionally good! Shoestring-style, crisp and golden, with no greasy aftertaste, and enough salt but not too much to overpower the light potato flavor. The decor was classic 1960's style burger joint, clean tables with lots of windows to see the orchards and sky, some great classic tunes playing (Billy Joel, Don Henley, Ben E King, etc.). The vibe was good, the crew had a great rhythm, and were super nice and polite, and everyone in the place was enjoying their meal with a smile. Don't pass this one by! read more

Food is consistently flavorful and on-time. Having to order online is a pain and for some reason, doesn't always offer onion rings a la cart. My family and I have been to the Corning Bartels' restaurant for many years. We won't stop anywhere else for burgers or polish dogs. This is a family-owned business and they exemplify quality food and service. You won't find better burgers etc anywhere else on I-5. ( but I can also recommend Burger Barn in Dunsmuir.) When I was a kid, good burger joints were all over the place. Not anymore. The boring chains have all but driven the "Mom and Pop" burger stands out of business. Bartel's has survived for decades because they know the business and they care about the customer. read more

My family came here last year pre-covid and loved it, so wanted to go again when we passed through. Sign at the door stated masks were required. First employee was wearing a bandana, second employee no mask no face shield, third employee mask down on her chin. When I asked that someone with a mask please prepare my food the guy stated that he doesn't have to wear a mask because he has asthma. California mandate states that all employees must have a mask and if they can't there needs to be an alternative such as a face shield. Guy argued with me, gal was rude, and after all was said and done I got a refund and no food. Tehama county is in Tier 1, for widespread covid numbers right now, and these guys aren't even following the rules to protect customers. We won't be going back. read more

Aside their outstanding and friendly customer service, I still have not found another burger joint that has beat Bartell Burgers excellent Burgers! The employees were friendly, business was brisk, the food was ready in under 8 minutes. I only got the kid's hamburger with cheese. He charged me 60¢ for the cheese and while waiting, I noticed the board above the counter said 40¢. The roll was rather chewy, even though toasted on the inside (fortunately not burnt), and the hamburger patty, fried on the griddle, looked exactly like the ones in the plain hamburger at McDonald's. Total cost $2.69 with CA sales tax. Would have cost less than half that at either McDonald's or Burger King. Note for traveler's stopping at Bartel's Giant Burger on Lake Blvd "because it was close", if you go only 2 short blocks further west, just the other side of the light at 273, there are a McDonalds, Arby's, Carl' Jr., and Subway. read more

Great fries, rings, shakes, and great selection of burgers..................big and delicious. I don't know how they treat their employees and, frankly, don't really care. And we also love the Olive Pit!" Sometimes they reversed the order and put the Olive Pit first.
