Literally it's located directly off the exit. Their 1/3# burgers were just like the pics. Big and tender. Medium rare was perfect. Are the hand-made patties?! Really great on my soft chibata with basic lettuce and tomatoes. Not overdone with fancy mayo sauces. Great clean burger. Then the fries were solid too. Crunchy outside with tender inside and not greasy! Then I felt like a milk shake I haven't had in decades and the nice woman told me to get chocolate mocha. It was great. This place looks authentic --- like it's out the 50's with very limited inside seating but a lot outside. Might be too hot to eat outside in the summer though. On the way for a mini road trip we ran into this unique fifties style diner. We both were hungry after traveling for the first few hours. May,(my wife ) yelped this place so we mapped it on the way on our mini road trip. It was easy to locate and it was right off the freeway (I-5) heading towards Redding....I believe it's right off the outskirts of Corning, Ca. The place was a throw back of the 1950's style hamburger joint / diner. Upon arriving , I was expecting the "Fonz" to show up LOL. The place I think was a converted gas/ service station back in the day and they have patio seating outside. Was too hot to eat outside so we opted to wait for our order inside. I had a regular cheese burger with the lack pepper cheese. I had everything on it and I was not disappointed. I expected old school, grease dripping, sloppy juicy burger and I got it. But was tasty. Bartels is a family owned business and only has a few locations. They are very small but serve really good food. Every location that I've been to has always had a friendly staff where they make you feel at home. The inside has a few tables and a counter that you can sit at along with a few covered tables outside. It's usually decorated with several framed photos of old cars. You order your burger, fries and drinks separately or you can make your burger a meal with a small fry and drink. Cheese is extra if you want to add cheese to your burger. I usually have them saute my onions for my burger. If you're looking for a BIG and JUICY burger then this is the place for you. You can have your burger cooked just how you like it, whether you like it medium rare or well done, its up to you. The Double giant cheese burger! Doesn't get much better than this. I love their fry sauce because it's not ketchup based like most other restaurants. I once asked one of the employees how they make their fry sauce and he told me that they use mayonnaise, mustard, seasoned salt, and garlic powder. I love it. read more

This joint came up while driving to Oakland on my Garmin as a suggestion for a food stop. I checked yelp and it had good ratings so we decided to try it. Talked with the owner for a while as I used to work in a similar place growing up 30 years ago and it made me reminisce about when fast food was actually high quality. There food will NOT disappoint you. Super fresh beef and local produce. That's how they are able to cook it rare if desired. Milkshakes actually use real milk and are fantastic. We had the Giant burger with onion rings and a chocolate shake. They have a fry sauce that is really tasty as well. Just a great food stop with super fresh ingredients and super friendly staff. And yes, I mean very dog-friendly. Each bench gets its own dog bowl of water. Everyone had their pets with them. The food is always consistently good and the staff are always friendly and welcoming! Been going there for years now, and I was just there a few days ago, and honestly, I was really surprised that it cost $48.76 for two Burgers, 1 fries order and 1 onion ring order, and 2 small drinks! I do not recall it being that expensive in the past, but wow, $50.00 bucks for lunch is quite a bit.
