Well I gotta say, I really didn't want to like this place. The last thing I thought we needed was another taco spot in Riverside, but boy was I WRONG!! BarTaco exceeded my expectations in every way. Let's start with the venue, it's gorgeous!! The esthetic is beautiful with lots of wood and greenery throughout the dining room. Now onto the menu. The prices were surprisingly affordable with all tacos under $4. My husband loved each taco he ordered with his favorite being the pork belly. We shared the esquites which were very well spiced and were both creamy and salty in a great way. I ordered the ahi tuna + crispy rice, and it was PHENOMENAL! This is the type of dish I will be dreaming of for weeks to come! On top of the beautiful venue, delicious and affordable food, the service was exceptional. Had a great first visit and was very impressed by the beautiful decor, friendly service, and delicious food. My friend and I started our visit with delicious mocktails. I really enjoyed the limeade, very sour but well balanced with sweetness. We wanted to try out a few things so we opted for the sampler. My favorite was the bowl of street corn and the guacamole. For my meal I ordered the ceviche and two tacos. The ceviche was okay, not very impressed as I just didn't find it to be very flavorful and the portion size felt small. First of all, beautiful restaurant! The aesthetic gives very romantic, light, airy, fresh, beachy vibes. The rooftop views are wonderful and is a great place to wait to be seated while sipping on my cocktail. Once seated, I loved the cute ensemble of comfortable seating with pillows on one side of the table and chairs on the other. For starters, a group of us had an appetizer sampler which had guac and chips, esquites (basically Mexican corn or elote that is not on the cob), plantains, and cucumber salad. As someone who lowers her standards when seeing Mexican food served from non ma and pop restaurants, I was genuinely pleasantly and surprised that this chain served really good food. Bartaco's guac was spot on delicious! The plantains had a nice crisp from the sugar on the outside and perfect banana texture on the inside. The corn or esquites had a bit of a kick to it which I did not expect and thoroughly enjoyed! The tacos I ordered were: Roasted duck Ahi Tuna Baja fish Crispy oyster - they ran out. Kids steak quesadillas All were very delicious! The roasted duck was so flavorful and juicy. The Baja fish was fried so nicely with good, crispy batter. The ahi tuna only came with lettuce instead of tortilla but this was soaked in some form of soy sauce mixture and was also very delicious. Kids steak quesadillas made me so happy. I needed something with cheese and the steak was so juicy and tender that it just completed my whole meal. I dipped the quesadillas in the cilantro sauce that came with the sampler and it was ten times better! The downside was the serving size. Our server gave us a heads up which is very much appreciated. Each taco entailed 2-3 bites and it's $3-5 per taco. It's very misleading because the menu says "family style" and my mind immediately veers to huge portions for sharing. This is not my idea of family style. What really happens is they bring everyone's food out at once... you don't have your own individual plate served to you but instead your food might be served with someone else's order on a tray and it's up to you to figure out which taco is yours from all the trays coming out. Not my favorite thing here because I don't know how to identify what I ordered. Nevertheless, when surrounded by good company you just laugh off the confusion when you accidentally steal someone's taco and move on about your day. The vibe was great. Server was very kind. I visited this upscale-looking Mexican restaurant expecting a pleasant dining experience, but unfortunately, it missed the mark on multiple fronts. Instead of having the friendly server take our order, we had to either fill out a paper checklist or navigate a QR code menu, which turned out to be confusing and not user-friendly. We even needed the friendly staff help just to find the Paloma. On top of that, there was no way to indicate who ordered what, so all the food just arrived family-style, leaving us to sort through each other's dishes. It's hard to keep track after the gentleman who delivered the food to us pointed out numerous tacos. I didn't think I would have to play a memorization game for our food. For such a nice place, that felt pretty low-effort. Jimmy John's and other casual places have figured this out with their online ordering. The final straw was being asked to enter my credit card details in the app for a hold before we even got our food, and then being prompted for an 18% gratuity for minimal service. All in all, it just wasn't the upscale experience we expected, and I wouldn't recommend it. I do not want to be on my phone to enter my credit card information. I do not want to fiddle with QR code menus to order my food. There are several other Mexican places within walking distance we will support instead. read more

This place was absolutely packed when we walked in, definitely a popular spot! They don't take reservations, but you can call ahead, which helps. Giving beachy, laid-back vibes. We ordered a bunch of tacos (all delicious), plus margaritas and guacamole to start. The guac was the best surprise of the night, mildly spicy full of flavor, which is rare! Most places tone it down, and I usually have to add my own heat, but this was bold and delicious right out of the bowl. Hands down the best guacamole I've had at any restaurant in Jacksonville. Great experience! I have been to Bartaco in Tampa but was a first timer to the new Jacksonville location. Came with a group for lunch today and had a great experience. First, it is absolutely beautifully decorated with lots of seating indoor and outdoor on a covered patio. Our server was great and very attentive as well as helpful and thorough explaining the menu. We started with the trio which was two salsas and guacamole and the guac was outstanding. It tastes freshly made and the tortillas were perfect for dipping. Salsa was excellent as well and offered a mild and spicier option. Our group tried a lot of different menu items and enjoyed them all. We had no idea what to expect on our first visit, but we were taken back by the beautiful restaurant and the friendly staff immediately when we walked in. I will say that the ordering was a little overwhelming, but the food was phenomenal. I would suggest trying multiple tacos but start with the oyster if you're a fan of those and the glazed pork belly. They were amazing. When we say we were told by someone who said she wasn't our server that we had to order on their qr system and out in cc and all they would bring it out. The table next to us had cards and pencils to circle what they wanted on their Menu. I asked what they were doing and she stated we could do that and brought it over. We ordered and waited all of one persons food came out and then all of the others. The trip was good quac amazing. The chicken tortilla soup and half chicken were good also. I got the duck birria and plantains and pineapple all tasty but to charge 4$ for 5 prices of pineapple with tajin is interesting. Food was good and they checked on us often. They seemed fixated on pulling plates and maybe cause they bring so many and the tables are small but we had to tell Them multiple times we were still eating. When I have been to other bar tacos I have always had a server to help and take our order. This is what I prefer. I think it could be amazing but needs so service links worked out. Bartaco is definitely a place to bring friends from out of town to your special someone on a date night. My wife and I arrived right before the Friday dinner rush and sat at the bar. The bar staff was very friendly and helpful. We were impressed by all the grapefruit, limes, and lemons they were squeezing in front of us to make their cocktails. Sitting at the bar was really nice. But once the dinner crowd came in, we felt rush because people were crowding us by the bar. It's a nice restaurant but I don't think people should stand behind you as it gets too stuffy and you feel rushed to finish if you were eating at the bar. If there's no seats they should probably wait by the door. I'm pretty sure it would also cause the staff a harder time to move around everyone standing around the bar as well. As for the food. Everything was so fresh, from the drinks to the desserts. Expect everything to hit your palate like never before. If I could say one bad thing about the food, some food items were too sour. This taco bar is located in 5 points! It has a great interior vibe with a bar, ample seating for all party sizes as well as out door seating. We loved the decor both in and out. We ordered the trio (guac, rojo salsa, verde salsa), four tacos (chorizo, duck, fish, shredded pork), chicken verde bowl, and the green Margarita. The margarita was very good. No issues. The guac was not your traditional guac with mashed avacado, onion, tomato, cilantro etc. It was slightly mash but very large pieces of avocado with hardly any onion in it. That's it. Unfortunately, my husband has an allergic reaction to just avocado by itself with out the other ingredients of the guac, he couldn't really eat it. There was a couple next to us on their first visit to Bartaco that mentioned the same thoughts about being disappointed with thre guac. I had the chicken verde bowl. It comes with brown rice, a corn/onion/tomato mixture and verde chicken. I found it very bland with the exception of the chicken. Once I added the salsa verde and the avocado from our chips and salsa trio it tasted fantastic. The tacos were mid. The duck was probably the best flavor wise- kind of a sweet and sour thing. The Pork taco was second best Baja fish third and the chorizo taco was just a ball of chorizo inside a small tortilla- sub par. We had our 1 year old with us and Ashe had fun playing on the furniture which all seems like it was made for her lol. One thing I would change is adding TVs or a projector for the football games. I've only been to the rooftop here but I love it! It's located right near five points and the rooftop has a great ambience. With a lot of plants and open layout, it has a very relaxing atmosphere. The service has been great both times I've gone.
