I had visitors in town from NC. We had just left making candles and while we waited for our candles to finish we tried TacoLu. I've never been to a Taco spot with valet parking. I love Mexican food and could eat it every day! My daughter and son/in-law suggested we try this place on our recent visit to Jacksonville. We went on a Friday night and it was quite busy. We lucked out finding a good parking spot; but had a 20 minute wait. We had anticipated this and went to the bar; only to find it was equally busy! We had to put in some effort to get a spot at the bar and order drinks. The prices seemed very reasonable: a Corona Light was just $3.75, a TacoLu Margarita was only $9, and an Aperol Skinny was $10. After about 15 minutes our table was ready and we were seated on the patio. It was cute and festive as well. Our server, Avery, came over immediately and brought us some fresh chips and salsa.....yum! We all decided on tacos à la carte which were all around $4 or $5. There were a few more pricier options and there were so many different choices made with chicken, beef, pork, seafoods and there were even vegan options. My daughter and I both had one carne asada and one Deb's Verde, (chicken with a light verde sauce.). Both were small flour tacos but both varieties were piled high with meat. I liked both of them very much. My husband had one carnitas taco, one Baja Fish taco, and one Taco Rosa. He said the carnitas one was good, the Taco Rosa, which was ahi tuna, was unique, and the Baja Fish, which was fried fish, was awesome. Overall our service was really good and everyone really enjoyed their meals. The prices were very favorable so we'll probably visit again the next time we're in Jacksonville Beach. read more

It was our first time at TacoLu and we enjoyed our overall visit! Our server, Captain Queso, was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions and even made some recommendations. I miss this place so much. Why is Jacksonville so far away from me? A four hour drive for dinner is just not feasible monthly. Ugh. Our server was fun and such a beach bum. This is my go to Mexican/seafood/cocktails and Keylime pie! I always start with the Mexican corn nachos which are out of this world! The place is always hopping and it's obvious why. The large menu with so many selections makes it so hard to pick. The $10 taco is made with tenderloin beef but I always opt for that with scallops, mahi-mahi and shrimp tacos. It's been a while since I have dined here, but was out to dinner here with my daughter, one of her favorite places since college. I never understood why they had valet service, and we always just opt to park ourselves in the connected strip mall lot and walk over. We were able to be seated immediately which was great for dinner on a Saturday. The inside tables for two are really close together and a bit cramped, making it feel a bit awkward with the people on either side of you. I was not a fan of their salsa that came with chips, it had a strong floral flavor, I'm guessing from too much cilantro, but I couldn't eat it. We came to Tacolu on a whim after church. Since it was 12:45, it was way past breakfast, so we opted to get lunch. When we arrived, there were actually parking spots available, which was great. I love their guac here, it's topped with toasted pepitas, and when it came out it was flavorful and delicious. The queso and chips were also very good. It's been awhile since I visited here. For lunch I opted for two tacos, the baja fish taco with no cabbage and the hawaiian taco and a side of street corn. Our meals came out quickly. I was excited to dig into the baja fish taco. I'm docking one full star because my baja fish taco tasted super fish. I know fish is fish, but it should never taste fish. The crust on the outside wasn't particulary crunchy. I took one bite and left it. I LOVED the hawaiian carnitas taco. The carnitas were perfectly seasoned and the pineapple salsa was delicious. Next time I would get two hawaiian tacos. The carne asada was a little dry, but the house salsa (amazing - it's a little spicy, and kind of thick in a saucy kind of way) fixed that up in a jiffy. I can't say enough good things about the Mexican street corn. It was so good. I had a margarita and it was flawless. Instead of big slices of jalapeno, it had kind of a fresh puree. So good. I'd go back for another one of those and a side of street corn any day. Food came out quickly, which was great for us because we had a show to get to. The Juan Collins cocktail was super refreshing--not too sweet, just perfect. As a vegetarian, I was thrilled with all the options--they can swap tempeh for meat in most items, which is such a win. Easily the best tacos in Jacksonville and probably my favorite restaurant in the city. The service is amazing, and the food comes out quickly even when it's busy. The servers are super cool and chill, which makes the experience even better. I also like the seating -- inside can be a bit loud at times, but the outdoor seating is great. I'd recommend any taco, but you have to get the 10 dollar taco -- it's a must. The quesadillas were pretty mid, but the guacamole and salsa are amazing, and they literally give you endless chips. They also have the best drinks. The Sweet Ginger is my favorite, and my girlfriend loves the Skinny Saint. They even have a really nice deal where you can get a 'deer and a beer' (a shot and a beer). I'd also recommend asking for the Lamber when ordering a beer. read more

Both were pretty good (bangin tempeh better than regular) but honestly I do not understand the hype of this place. This visit was much the same as others. It's good but not great. We also had sangrias. Those were prob the best drinks I've had in all my times here. Very enjoyable and refreshing! The ambiance is fun. We sat at the bar and the bartenders gave pretty good service. Sometimes I feel like I'm in some sort of TV show when I am in Jax Beach. The 5 of us arrived at Taco Lu at 7pm on a Saturday with no reservation, sat at the bar for 20 minutes, spun the little $7 shot wheel of death thingy, won 2 warm Milagro tequila shots with no lime or chaser, spilled one of them, 2 of us split the other, nearly threw up, got seated at our table, bodied some chips, ordered a tequila on the rocks, ordered 4 tacos and 3 sides, realized we were sitting right next to our F45 trainer from earlier that day, said an awkward hi, destroyed the tacos, tapped my Chase Sapphire Preferred, and got gone. That may be my longest sentences to date. I'mma leave it though that was one take. For clarification, that warm Milagro tequila shot with no lime was actually hell. I don't know what the mustache bartender had against us, we didn't even really interact that much. Maybe Mustache was just having a bad day. I have em too. For the tacos, I smacked one brisket, one shrimp, one scallop, and one chorizo. It was an elite assortment, but I really ended up bonding with the Chorizo. Me and this Zo had a special connection, idk what it was. TacoLu had such a great community vibe. I felt like this was a local gathering spot, it was JUMPIN. Every age, every demographic was represented in here too. Crazy work. There was also these teenagers dressed as grandmas throwing ass at the cars that sped by on the highway out front. I really like taco Lou, but I went there today and I got a dramatically smaller portion of protein on the tacos They mentioned nowhere they reduce the amount of protein to 2 ounces per taco. I paid $20 for just the tacos so that's five dollars per ounce of protein. That's insane. I won't be back. read more
